Keane

English rockers Keane play a unique brand of alternative rock that highlights the piano instead of the more traditionally favored guitar. The band is made up of lead singer Tom Chaplin, drummer Richard Hughes, bassist Jesse Quin and pianist Tim Rice-Oxley. Anyone who has been to a Keane concert tends to talk about the infectious excitement coming from the stage, with a fun light show in the background to add to the atmosphere. In particular, during the tour to promote their Strangeland album, even the ballads they performed were described by ticket holders as rousing and energetic.

I was so happy to hear that Keane was coming to Maine, and they did not disappoint! The tickets were reasonably priced, the venue was the perfect size, comfortable, and beautiful. Keane played a mix of past hits and songs from their most recent album, so I was able to sing along to all my favorites and also enjoy a few new songs I had not heard yet. Tom's voice is amazing, he sounded perfect, and the whole band gave off a great energy. It was one of the best shows I have seen in a long time. I hope they come back to Maine again in the future.

First off the Aragon ballroom is kind of a dreamland-fairytale ballroom. Helio sequence opened up and they were amazing but they also had this soothing music that brought th ball room to life. And then you have keane who will just blow you away because they are so good and their music also perfectly fits the Aragon ballrooms theme. It truly was an unforgetable experience and I would definately see keane again!

Keane at the Aragon was such an energetic performance. The lead singer has amazing stamina both vocally and physically. The Aragon has a big, booming, and very echoey sound, but this seemed to work just fine for Keane on that Sat. night, and they were certainly taking it all in. They kept breathlessly exclaiming that it was the best performance and experience they had had yet. The audience continually was going wild.

It was interesting being able to see a band such as this in such a small venue. They are huge in Europe and are just starting to take off in the US. It was refreshing to hear such clean, intelligent music. Definately one of the best rock bands in the world! If you get the chance treat yourself because it will not be long before you'll have to go to an arena or statium to see these them!

A few years have passed since Keane s last Dallas performance, enough to make the fans ravenous at their Dallas House of Blues show last night. Keane is one of a half a dozen English bands that rose to fame at the same time as Coldplay but never made the cut into the arena show stratosphere. Playing last night to a sold out crowd of 1700 like it was 17,000, Keane was spot on and album perfect with their sound. It isn t post-production and Auto-Tune that makes these guys superb musicians. They simply sound great. Their synth-induced ambient rock can stir the crowd to frenzy then, moments later, hypnotize them to a silent sway. If you ever get a chance to see Keane live, take it! (And on a funny note, some of Keane's music is so similar that there were a couple of times during the concert I said, "Didn't they play that already?)

It was a wonderful show!!! I loved it !!! They sang all the songs i wanted and sounded better than the cd's, the venue was cool because you could see them so close and if you went to the bar or restaurant and spent $20dlls you got a front of the line pass!!! We had a super great time i didn't mind standing for so long the people didn't push, i was almost at the front it was super cool to be sooo close and in this more intimate setting!!!

Keane rolled through a great set of mostly the their new and first albums. Their simple sound - singer (with few backup vocals), piano, drum and bass came accross like you were listening to a CD with headphones. I liked the backlit shadow lighting they used often. Tom Chaplin has one of thefinest voices I have ever heard live Strangeland is going to be a top album so hopefully they will tour back this way again in a year or so

Second time watching Keane at this venue, loved it again, i love the band and love the songs. Much more people this time than in 2010, the band was amazing and Tom runs in the stage, lots of energy. I was just disappointed with the audience in the floor, always trying to take our spots to be in front of us, and the cameras in front of my face all the concert is annoying, felt like i couldnt enjoy the concert the way it should be, next time i will be seating, no crowds and no annoying cameras in front of me! If they come back to the fox, i will be there for sure, but not on the main floor!

Great show from opening with new song 'You Are Young' to closing with an old favorite 'Crystal Ball'. Tom's voice was great and the band was on. Crowd was really into the show and the band was really enjoying the participation-especially when the crowd sang 'Somewhere Only We Know' word for word. This was my fourth Keane show and I hope to attend many more.

We both attended the Keane show in NYC in 2009 at the Radio City Music Hall and we thought that was incredible, but man, this show was even better! Hard to believe I know, but the acoustics of the Strathmore as well as their song selection, not to mention even closer seats made the experience even more thrilling than Radio City. The band has truly produced a great album, and has kicked off their US tour on the right foot. Great Show!

Excellent show. 3rd time I've seen them, 2nd at this venue. Of course it helped that a super nice usher moved my wife, 9 year old son and I down to the 3rd row so he could see better. Helps to have a cute kid! Would have been great in our regular seats too. Tom Chaplin sang and looked great. He's obviously more healthy now that he is sober. The mix of old and new song choices was excellent.

I had a fantastic time at the KEANE concert last night. The two openers (Fran Healy and Ingrid Michaelson) were both really good, but KEANE completely blew me away. The atmosphere was incredible and the band was so incredible to both watch and listen to. Tom, Tim, Jesse, and Richard are all phenomenal, and it was such a thrill and an honor to be in the same room with them and watch them pour their hearts out into their music. I cannot wait until KEANE returns to the Twin Cities--I will be there in a second.

Keane thoroughly entertained a lively crowd for about an hour and a half in one of the best summer venues in New York. It was interesting to see such an eclectic crowd of people of all ages enjoying the show. Keane seemed to favor Under The Iron Sea, Perfect Symmetry, and their new EP Night Train. But they didn't forget the classics from Hopes and Fears like Somewhere Only We Know and Everybody's Changing. My only complaints were that the support acts started so early that we missed them and the ridiculousness of having to go to a separate area of the outside venue in order to drink alcohol - both for NY legal reasons, I'm sure.

The Williamsburg Waterfront is a perfect venue for a concert. WIth a view of the New York Skyline along the East RIver, you couldn't find a better setting for an outdoor concert. Ingrid MIchaelson was the reason i got tickets but Keane turned out to be a great set too. It was a slow start for me with Keane but after a couple of songs, they caught my attention and kept my head bobbing throughout the concert. Ingrid mentioned she has sung "The Way I am" a thousand times but I think it is more like a hundred thousand. She keeps spicing it up with new variations. This time it was with a parody of the theme song from "The Prince of Bel Air" I couldn't believe what a great parking space I got just outside the Waterfront Park. I set a record for closest parking spot ever.

I had no idea that Fran will be there too, and I was really surprised to find this out. He is a truly talented artist, very sincere and funny! It was a pleasure watching him sing. I will defenetly go to see him again and will recommend to friends (oh, no, I won't! I have no friends... Haha, just, kidding! I do!) Ingrid was great too, but I would prefer her to open the show! She has tons of energy and very good team. Keane... They are just amazing... I think they made every single person happy! Ben said that we made his dreams to come true, it was very touching... Keane has a perfect ability to have a personal conversation with 600 people. Light and sound were great too. Keane, you are always welcome to NY!

Great as always. This was the third time I've seen them play at Bank of America Pavilion and they were wonderful. One of the best bands to see live, they actively encourage audience participation and are just a great group of guys/musicians. They always play a mix of songs from all of their albums, not just popular singles, etc. The advantage of this venue is that you can get seats extremely close to the stage for a reasonable rate. The first time I saw them at Bank of America Pavilion, my boyfriend was high-fived by the lead singer who came running through the crowd. Just a very solid show, I highly recommend them.

...because they work very hard to put on a good show. But first the openers. Although I'm not too familiar with Fran Healy from Travis he had a good acoustic show infused with good stories and humor. Ingrid Michaelson...what can I say? She's smart and funny. Every song she played was good although her version of "Creep" was a little weird for me. Her backing band was awesome. I liked the fact that she had two women on guitars, plus the bassist was fine (haaaay!). The ending could be given away by others, but not by me except it was awesome. I'm definitely a new fan. Now to Keane...I have all four of their CD's and this is my first concert. I frankly expected something sleepy because it was in the historic Chicago Theater. I thought they were going to come out in suits. Was I wrong. They guys came out and got the show going from the jump. I don't think there was a moment where they ever really stopped moving when they were on stage. They played most of the songs that I loved. The only negative is the strobe lights. They blinded me. Like I said, they are skinny boys because they work so hard to put on a good show. They are passionate in what they do. I enjoyed myself. When Keane come back to the States, I will see them again unless I'm broke--no, even if I'm broke, somebody's just not getting paid. I'm seeing them again.

It was one of the greatest moments of my life. Beyond anything I could have imagined. Keane was brilliant, bright, full of passion. Keane played a majority of my favorite songs (a majority because I love all of their songs), and I'm glad to say that my voice is still in pain from singing the whole night. They connected with the crowd and made us feel as though we were a part of the show. I love the intimacy Tom has, as well as Tim's passion for the piano (I love his voice too! Go Tim and taking a lead!). I would definitely see them again if they were to return to Chicago-and it is quite the pity that they probably won't do so for a while.

Fran Healy is really great... I wasn't familiar with him at all but I plan to listen to him lots more now! Just the one man up there with a guitar and keyboard. Very talented. Ingrid Michaelson blew me away! I didn't expect her to be as amazing as she was! So fun to watch, talented artist, and her band was great too! Ended her set with Britney Spears' "Toxic," complete with dancing. Fab audience interaction too! Keane. Keane Keane Keane. They are so wonderful and put on an incredible show. Great lights going on, and I was REALLY happy that Tim did the vocals for "Your Love"! He was nervous about doing it because he never sings, but it sounded beautiful. Bedshaped: massive song. Encore was fantastic, with My Shadow and Crystal Ball. Love love love. Met the band after the show and they were extremely nice, making sure everyone got a picture and an autograph who wanted one. :) The only thing I didn't love was the crowd. Since it was a seated venue, there was hardly ANY dancing! The atmosphere was much better at the last Keane show, at the Aragon.

These British gents put on an electric, amazing performance everytime! I saw them at the Aragon Ballroom in May 2009 also and was mesmerized then and again last night at their performance at The Chicago Theatre. The acoustics were far superior at The Chicago Theatre. I want to see them again! Their song set list was also perfect. They picked the great selection of songs from their latest Night Train cd, and gave us many of the classics we feel in love with from Perfect Symmetry, Iron Sea, and Hopes and Fears. Ingrid Michaelson was so darn charming. It was the first time I'd seen her live and she was fabulous! Fran Healy was also a refreshing addition to the opening performers. This was by far a better line up for opening performers then last years picks. (Or was it just the horrible acoustics at the Aragon Ballroom that did nothing for last years opening bands?) I'm still in awe of Keane and their talent to deliver such an amazing performance once again in Chicago.

I guess I'll start at the beginning. Fran Healy was the first guy out and he was amazing, so down to earth. I can't wait to hear more from him. After a while Ingrid Michaelson came on and she was hilarious! She was fun and made us sing along with her.The best part was when someone in the audience threw Chick-Fli-A at Ingrid Michaelson. She and her band ate the sandwich and she sang a song about it after. This was the perfect venue for this event. It was so nice to have the small, intimate setting of the House of Blues. Keane had us pumped the whole show. The audience (including me) was clapping, screaming, dancing, and singing their hearts out the whole show. Keane loved it, too, which made it all the more amazing! They gave it their all.The best part was that after the show, I went around to the back of the venue where the tour busses are, and met them! They were really sweet guys! I got a signed pick, a picture with each member, and they signed a picture that I brought. This was a night that I won't forget!

Best concert I've ever been to. The House of Blues is a perfect venue. I had GA tickets, so I was super close to the stage, and got some awesome pictures. The opening acts: Fran Healy of Travis, and Ingrid Michaelson were very good. They were fun. I was there for Keane though, and they did not let me down. The whole HOB was on their feet and totally into it. Tom Chaplin said we were the best audience on the tour so far. (I hope that means they come back to Dallas soon) I've waited 5 years to see Keane, and I'm so happy they were at The House of Blues where I could see them up close & personal. I even got to meet the guys, get autographs & pictures by their tour bus. Perfect night for this bigtime Keane fantatic!!

Couldn't pass up the chance to finally experience such a talented and original band live, especially in Sin City at the House of Blues Las Vegas! Following two great opening acts in Ingrid Michaelson and Fran Healy, Keane rocked the house with one hit after another, inspiring the crowd (myself included) to sing along with every word. May have been the first but definitely not the last Keane show I will attend. An unforgettable live performance that left me an even bigger fan than before, is it any wonder Keane rocks?

The House of Blues is a quaint, intimate setting that offers great views of the stage from anywhere in the room. The sounds system is just loud enough to be a little too loud but in a good way! Now for the band...one word, A M A Z I N G!!! This was my first live Keane performance and I must say they have a powerful way of connecting with the crowd. I honestly wasn't too excited about the opening acts when I researched them before the show but they were both enjoyable. Ingrid Michaelson and her band were flippin great!!! First of all, Fran Healy opened. And he was brilliant as ever. He played some Travis songs, and some of the material from his upcoming solo album. He was modest and funny and it was his birthday! so he could do whatever he wanted, and we loved him for it. Ingrid Michaelson was new to me, but was very enjoyable. A singer/songwriter with a playful vocal style, and humorous but sweet songs. She bravely led a sing-a-long with a crowd who mostly didn't know her, and pulled it off. The break before Keane came on was about a half-hour longer than expected. They were having some trouble with their gear. But once they took the stage, an apologetic Tom Chaplin explained the delay and rewarded the audience for sticking with them. He led the crowd in singing great song after great song from their 3 plus albums. Tim Rice-Oxley's dominant piano and added vocals, including lead vocals on Your Love, mated perfectly with Chaplin's passionate singing. I saw them the last time they played House of Blues, on the Hopes and Fears tour, and despite having a lot more material now, they seemed still humbled by the fact that the crowd knew all the songs and sang along. They focused heavily on songs from Perfect Symmetry and Night train, but played the requisite classics from H&F and a few from Under the Iron Sea. Notable omissions included Lovers are Losing and Spiralling.

Tom (lead singer) is so much fun to watch on stage. He has such a great desire to please the crowd and it shows in his performance. All band members pour their heart and soul into their performances. This is a great venue, especially during the summer time. The only bad part is, because it's outside, you can't hear how loud the crowd gets. I only hope the band knows how loved they are in the L.A. area so they keep coming back. Ingrid Michaelson is very talented and extremely charming. She comes across as being a bit jaded, but that's her "thing" right? Fran Healy came on too early. He's a prime performer and deserves his own stage, and a longer set. I feel very fortunate to have been able to see/hear this line up on one stage. I surly hit the jackpot on July 21, 2010, at the Greek Theatre.

Who ever thought Keane would get the loudest cheer and most dancing of any concert I've been to? I certainly never thought they would. I've always been a Keane fan, not the greatest one around, but yet, still a fan. Figured I'd see them in concert and boy, was it ever worth it! We opted for the VIP seating area, instead of the pit for a change. It was fabulous! Private bar, leather couches, great view, early entrance; can't get better than that. The show started with 2 great opening acts, with Mat Kearney getting the crowd warmed up and singing. Soon after, Keane made their grand entrance and amped the show up completely. They were incredible live; much better than their recorded songs, which are still great. The crowd would not shut up; constant screaming the whole night, while Keane would not shut up either, constantly amazing the crowd the whole night. During the entire show, there was a weirdly loving vibe in the building, and Keane definitely felt it.

I've listened to Keane since their very first album came out, and have loved them since, but this concert far exceeded my expectations. I wasn't sure what to expect not having heard anything about their live performances. However, the show was brilliant: a light and sound extravaganza. Tom Chaplin didn't miss a single note, amazing considering the vocal range in almost all of his songs. The show was not sold out, but Tom's energy and enthusiasm made it seem like it was packed. I highly recommend a Keane concert to anyone who enjoys their music; you won't be disappointed!

This was the third Keane show I saw at Aragon, and the third time was definitely the charm. They were awesome the first two times also, but this time blew me away!! Tom had so much engergy and was all over the stage and he said how excited they were to be back in Chicago after 2 years!! They played a lot of songs from the new album of course, but they know which older songs the crowd will go crazy for, and they never disappoint!!!

I was BLOWN away with how Keane worked the crowd. It didn't hurt that the Aragon Ballroom is an amazingly beautiful venue. I left wanting MORE!

Well, I'm certainly not an impartial reviewer, because I've loved Keane for years before I saw this show. I can't say that I came in expecting something terrible but ended up being blown away, because I was expecting this show to be amazing. However, even with my high expectations, Keane were absolutely brilliant. The two openers, The Helio Sequence and Mat Kearney, were definitely mediocre and dragged on for far too long. But from the very moment when Tom Chaplin bounded onto the stage to the strains of "The Lovers Are Losing", the crowd went wild. There wasn't a single weak moment, except for perhaps "My Shadow", a much-loved b-side which, I must confess, I never quite grew to love. All in all, it was a fantastic show, and I hope they come back soon!

Keane performed with so much energy and excitement, it was unbelievable! My boyfriend and I really enjoyed the show, and agreed that they sound even better live than they do in the studio. Tom is absolutely adorable! I would love to see them live again and again!!!

As Keane fans for the past 10 years, been to over 10 shows in Norway and England, this was our first Keane concert in the US. We were very imprest with the great location in lovely NYC, friendly and helpfull staff, and of course two hours of Keane doing what they do best! We loved it, and had a great time! Thank you:)

This was my first Keane concert ever despite being a fan of the band since their very first album Sound was good, performance clean, minimalist, and therefore very much into the songs and the amazing voice of Chaplin. Good balance as well of old and new songs, being their last album Strangeland one of the best, it was a true pleasure

Keane put on a great show Thursday Night @ Radio City. The band sounded great but Rice-Oxley and Chaplin were incredible. It amazes me that this band isn't more popular in the USA. I think they are so much better than Coldplay. This is the Third time I've seen them in NYC and they just keep getting better. Looking forward to teir next visit to the Big Apple

I have been a fan of Keane for many years, but had never seen then live before last year at the Beacon Theater... what a treat! When I saw they would be performing again at the end of their Strangeland tour, I KNEW I had to get tickets. This band is just as good, if not better, when performing live. Tom's voice is always on key and crystal key, and doesn't fatigue after the 2+ hour performance... how does he do it?! Their setlist was a perfect mix of old and new songs plus the popular favorites (Somewhere Only We Know) The energy was electric... I loved every minute of it... and dance and sang my heart out with them. Some people preferred to just cross their arms and sway... or sit down... I don't understand that! What a riveting show... I hope they come back soon! I plan to see them every chance I get! Encore!

two things immediately come to mind. 1/AMAZING VOICE: Tom sings seemingly effortlessly during the whole concert, hitting all the high notes. Overall, you get the feeling that his live performance is better than his studio performance. His voice is powerful, yet pure, effortless, and very melodic. 2/WHAT A NICE BUNCH OF GUYS: This is s band that sold millions of records worldwide. Their popularity is even bigger in Europe. Yet, my friend and I got pictures and autographs from 3 of the band members. These guys are friendly, humble, and patient (they took the time to stay out in the cold after the concert to make sure all the fans who were waiting were satisfied).

I have travelled to see KEANE play in four different cities now, and every time they sound better than the last. This show was unforgettable!! They play the best "pretty music" of any band today and to see them live is simply awesome! I've seen them in better venues than Newport Music Hall, which had a very small stage I thought, but they still put on a phenomenal show! I even took my mother, age 70, to this one and even she loved it! Her favorite song was "Hamburg Song", which Tom sings and plays keyboards to so beautifully.

This was my 5th time seeing Keane, and they never disappoint! Except for earlier this year when we went to see them at the Beacon Theater and were kicked out in the first 5 minutes for DANCING in our seats!! I posted this on their site and it was quickly deleted by admins. Anyway, Keane always brings an awesome show, and I wouldn't miss it for the world. this show was literally one of the best shows I have ever gone to. The crowd, while it was a pretty small one, was absolutely awesome and the band really knew how to get us pumped up. They kept the show itself pretty simple but the music was just so good and such a pleasure to listen to. I've been waiting to see them since Hopes and Fears debuted and this was just the chance of a lifetime. Seriously, I love them.

I saw Keane play at the Beacon at the start of their Strangeland tour and thought they put on such a great show, I has to see them again in NY. This show was their very last of the tour and I think they had a bit less energy/were a bit tired compared to the Beacon show. That said, they still put on a good show and played every song you'd want them too.

This was my first time seeing Keane in person, and I've been kicking myself for not seeing them sooner. This show exceeded all expectations, which were set at such a high bar. Tom Chaplin's voice and energy level had a hold over the entire crowd, as if it was summoning those in attendance to stand and sing for the entire duration of what was an incredible set, with a good mix of Strangeland versus other albums, transitioning seamlessly from upbeat jams to the piano ballads. After the roughly 2 hour long set, I had lost all sense of time and place -- I wanted them to continue for another 2+ hours. Stop reading this review and pencil in the on-sale date of their next show into your iCal / GCal immediately.

Keane was entertaining and they played a lot of hits from their first and second albums, which was cool. It would have been nice to have more improvisation of their songs -- something more than what was on their albums. Their encore was a little bit short, too. But overall, they make simple music that speaks to hearts that have been broken before or people who have felt loneliness.

I love the music to Strangeland and think next to Babel by Mumford and Sons it may be the best album of the year. Keane performed most of the album and the sound was good. It would have been great except that it was too loud. Many rock groups do not realize that when the perform in a venue like Radio City, The Beacon, or Carnigie Hall they just do not need to play so loud. It distorts the sound and the bass shakes the seats. They should realize that they are not performing at Giants Stadium . In Radio City a single performer playing the piano or singing acapella can be heard and approeciated--so why all the amplification? Another of my pet peeves. Why must people stand when listening to a group like Keane. I can understand standing and dancing to the Rolloing Stones or Johnny Halliday but Keane is not dancing music. Please remain seated. The music is just a beautiful and the seats at Radio City are so comfortable. They were also quite late and did not appear untill after 9:00PM for a concert billed as starting at 8:00PM

It's always wonderful when you get to see great performers at the top of their game. As it was the last show of their Strangeland tour, the band were in an incredible groove. Tom told the audience they wanted the show to be a celebration, and it was every bit of that. They have such a deep, rich catalog, that every song was a highlight. My feeling was confirmed that there is no better venue than Radio City. Great night all around!
