I love the Libbey Bowl...it is very intimate, laid-back, and has great acoustics. However, they have a 10PM curfew which is really an unfortunate pain! Even Ojai residents comment that they wish it were 11PM, or at least 10:30. What's curious about it is that restaurants and other venues in the area play live music, with their doors and windows open, until much later. DSO apparently did not know about the curfew, or they might have taken a shorter break, as they inferred when they came back on. Regardless, for bands that play long shows and that jam, if there is a hard 10PM curfew, the shows need to to be scheduled for an earlier start. Most DSO shows I've seen have run 3-3 1/2 hours of actual performance time. This was a great show, with the band really cooking, but unfortunately they were limited to less than 2 1/2 hours because of the ridiculous curfew. Oh...and the venue ran out of beer before the break.

The Libbey bowl was a wonderful venue, in an amazing town of Ojai. DSO was amazing, it was one of the strongest 1st sets I have ever seen. They were spot on. The were sharp and really kicking out some great music. Due to local noise ordinances, they had to shut down at 10"00 PM, the band did not know this. Oh well, I think they made up for it with the shortened second set, with a lot of energy. I was not disappointed, of course most people wanted to see more of the band and listen to the music, but everybody seemed to take it in stride. It was a great crowd, with awesome people, having a great time. Everybody there, the band, the crew, the crowd, the employees, the town made the whole experience perfect.

I went to see the Dark Star Orchestra on Friday 6/12 at the Club Casino in Hampton Beach NH. The show was great! The meticulous attention to detail astounds me everytime. I have seen the Grateful Dead (w/Jerry) 48 times since 84' and the thing you learned relatively quickly about the band is that not every show was a good experience. Some shows would blow you away and others would leave you scratching your head. I have seen the DSO 5 or 6 times and have been impressed with every show. I'm not always thrilled with the show they pick to revisit (I like the late 70's early 80's era) but whatever they do they do it well. Consistantly! Close your eyes and your transported back to Jerry and the boys in their prime. Thanks DSO!!!

These days - these guys are more dead than the dead, cos' they still got their Jerry. How is it possible that they are this good? If you close your eyes, your instantly transported back to the late 60's early 70's. Don't get me wrong - I still love Bobby & Phil & Mickey & Bill and see them every chance I get, but these guys, well - all I can say is WOW!! This show was a reproduction of: Greatful Dead Setlist: 1/8/79 - Madison Square Garden, New York, NY

DS played a tight set from Cincinnati '73. While the tent was not packed to capacity, this led to more room for everyone to dance, which was necessary with the music that was being played. All in all, a good time had by all, I would assume.

Dark Star Orchestra put on an awesome show. This was only my 2nd time seeing them. I have heard great things about them over the years. Being a Dead Head I really had my doubts that they could "pull it off" but they blew me away with the show! I'll be back for a 3rd!

I've been to about ten DSO shows and never been disappointed. Friday was no different. I met alot of old freinds and everyone was rocking. I thought the sound was great I took my usual spot in the back of the room. Leaves more space to dance. It was nice to see Lisa mingling in the crowd too.

Tea Leaf Green opened for DSO - first time seeing this band, and they were cool, I especially liked the guy on keyboards. But I'm there for DSO - it was amazing back in November to see them for the first time, after not having gotten to see Jerry with the Grateful Dead since 1987. DSO plays with all the energy that the Grateful Dead used to have "back in the day" and do an excellent job with the tunes. I'll go see them ANY time they come to town.

This show was a Recreation of a Setlist performed by the Grateful Dead on 10/15/83 at the Hartford Civic Center, Hartford, CT. GREAT SHOW!!! This show was a rock show, followed by a fantastic MONSTER Midnight Hour, Easy Wind, Help on the Way> Slipknot!> Franklin's Tower, ALMOST A COMPLETE 3rd SET!! Very HOT and STICKY inside the Electric Factory, I guess new management does not approve of opening the side doors for some air, too bad... VERY STUFFY.

I've Never seen K.Williams before. He was very entertaining. Better then I thought he would of been, and definatly diferent. Worth checking out again. DSO is always awesome, I've seen them about 80 or so times and absoloutely love this band. It's because I love the Grateful Dead. But The Grateful Dead do not exist anymore, so therefore, this is it. These guys always deliver. The bad part about the show - The Lightning, that closed the show at Drums/space. And then the following 20,000 intoxicated person mad rush/ crush to a ferry that was not there. We waited an hour, in the pouring rain and lightning (next to a huge metal lightning pole) for the ferry to come get us. It started to become scary when we were packed in so tightly, that you could lift your feet off the floor, and remain suspended by deadheads. On the subway ride home I met this awsome chick "Jill", who was also at the show. Hopfully I see her again. I would do it all over again tonight, exactly the same way. Except maybe I would ask Jill for her number this time.

Keller and DSO were, of course, great the early ending (no partial refund or comp?!?!?) and departure proceeding with everyone leaving all at once to the ferry was horribly managed: I am surprised no one was crushed or trampled This is my second, and last year going to see them on Gov Island.... getting there is like going through airport security

Keller Williams ran too long and DSO started to late which caused them to end early due to the lightning storm. They knew the whether forcast so they should have cancelled Keller'a set. I would like a partial refund.

Nice to see them swing through Houston again bringing Jeff Matson in the Garcia role. Interesting Terrapin opener into Let it Grow on to Cold Rain and Snow.. The sound was good overall, however, the bass took over the entire room and distorted when really pushed. There was a reasonable turnout for a Thursday night. It took me a while to get accustomed to the mix and subtle differences in styles and vocal tones. Rob was very strong vocally most notably on some of the complex Dylan material such as Queen Jane Approximately, Lost Sailor, Lazy Lightning, Samson and Delilah, Sugar Magnolia w/2nd set Sunshine Daydream closer. Could use a little more Leslie volume when deploying the Hammond. It was nice hearing some of the older material and typical JGB songs like Cats Down Under The Stars and Tangled up in Blue especially with Lisa. Darkstar Orchestra creates their own history and legacy as each year passes and provide an awesome opportunity to be exposed to the music of the original Grateful Dead in a live setting for those who missed out andthose who can never get enough.

This is not about being a Deadhead, not about loving Grateful Dead music, lyrics, soul, and musicianship, because Dark Star Orchestra stands on its own as a superb group of artists, but if you ARE a deadhead, and you DO love their music, this concert was absolutely as good as it gets! It was an amazing rendition of a 1978 concert and I danced through the whole thing. Never thought I'd hear Terrapin Station played live again! I was transported to Ventura County Fairgrounds, ocean breeze, late summer evening. What's amazing is how true DSO stays to the original, yet breathes fresh new spirit into everything they play, and I feel that sense of wonder and joy all over again. Thank you DSO!!!

Although I didn't get too lucky with all the songs they played, Dark Star still played the songs ridiculously well with a lot of energy and good vibes that the crowd was eating up. Even if you're not a Dead Head you'd enjoy the show because of the atmosphere, people, and of course music. Can't forget Tea Leaf Green either, awesome opening!

This was my fourth Dark Star Orchestra concert in two years, and also my fourth at Penn's Peak. The last two were original set lists and, while good, did not compare to this one. I've heard one or more members of the band tell the audience after previous shows how much they like playing this venue, but this time the keyboardist told us even before they started playing. And boy, did they show it! And the audience returned the vibe on classics like "Rambling Rose" in the first set and "Scarlet Begonias/Fire On the Mountain," leading off the second set. The set list this time was from an October 1983 concert in Wooster, Massachusetts, and included other favorites of mine like "The Loser" and "Cassidy." Toward the end of the second set, the jam during "Playing in the Band" morphed into Drums and then Space and, a bit unusually, never reconstructed itself into the original song, but instead morphed into a killer rendition of "Truckin." The vocalists' tonality was spot on most of the time -- very little of the dissonance sometimes experienced in Dead concerts when the singers couldn't hear themselves or, perhaps, were a tad off key for other reasons. My only negative is that the four DSO concerts in a row that I have attended at Penn's Peak have been accompanied by pretty sucky weather, and the weather this past Saturday was particularly awful with heavy rain. It's such a beautiful location, and Roadie's bar and restaurant has such a nice terrace overlooking Beltzville Lake, yet we had to eat indoors and couldn't see a thing through the fog. But otherwise, the entire experience at this sold-out, 2,500-plus indoor venue was as perfect as it could have been.

Penns Peak is a great place to see a show. Nice free open parking lot, plenty of parking. The venue is rustic exposed wood beams, great sound. Beer is cheap, water was $2! Dark Star Orchestra just kills it every show. They play hard from beginning to end. Amazing jams. The Scarlet Begonias/ Fire on the Mountain jam was one of the best you'll find. The show they played was played by the Dead on 10 21 1983. If you want to hear "the Dead" and what they sounded like back in the day. Go see DSO. Just. Go.

Dark Star is an amazing Dead tribute band. At this show they played four Dylan songs as the Dead or The Jerry Garcia Band would have played them. After Slipknot I was looking forward to hearing Franklin's Tower. Instead they played an amazing version of Tangled Up in Blue which was actually the highlight of the night for me. My wife joined me for the show. She is not a Deadhead at all but she loved it. The venue is really nice, a converted movie theater with good acoustics. That said, security entrance to the show was terribly annoying. We had to wait on a half hour line going down a residential street to get to security. We had to stand in the street with traffic passing. We got there on time but didn't get in until 8:20. Luckily, the band was just starting then. The show was so good, I almost forgot about the entry issue but they do need to improve this somehow.

DSO rendered honors to the Dead show of Nov. 5th 1979 at the old Spectrum in Philadelphia. From the opening notes of China Cat through the encore Box of Rain, DSO delivered the Dead goods, hot and fresh. At this point, the numbers of those who love the Dead's music is growing and the numbers who saw them live in the 60's and 70's is shrinking. DSO gives you an opportunity to hear the music and feel the vibe. Go and enjoy.

Dark Star Orchestra put on an Excellent Show at the House of Blues San Diego. Fantastic renditions of all the songs played, recreating the Grateful Dead show of 2/24/74 Winterland. If you like the Grateful Dead, or if you would like to know what a "Good Old Grateful Dead" show sounded like, go see Dark Star Orchestra. Enjoy ! The Venue rating is low because of the physical layout of the music venue itself. It is usually over sold, and creates a real problem getting back with your people after making it to the bar to get drinks. The people who worked there were friendly. The smoking section needs to be greatly expanded, and the drinks cost Way Too Much.

I have not been to The Wilbir before and I was impressed. The Security was friendly and professional. The entry was efficient. The venue itself was immpressive and classic. The acoustics were excellent. The seats were close to each other as an older theatre would be. DSO came on stage at 8:05pm so the shpow started on time. And they played outstanding. I have seen DSO many times and they sounded great. They were energetic and crisp. The first set was upbeat and I enjoyed it. After about short set break, the boys came back and continued their awesome performance paying special tribute to the special guitar, Wolfie. It was so cool to be in the room with that guitaer again. It sounded incredible played by an incredible musician. The second set was excellent and high-energy as well. I enjoyed the encore of White Rabbit and US Blues although another Encore of US Blues was not really what i wanted but as this show was a replay of 11-13-78, I understand and I enjoyed it anyway.

Better than Dead and Company on Sunday night at MSG. Just the opening tuning doodling topped anything that happened on stage at MSG, except of course Bill and Mickey were kind of superb. Anyway, what a breath of old air- felt just like a dead show of old, at least a hell of a lot closer than the corporate splash of D&C. Thoroughly (well of course there were a couple of tunes I didn't like, but that's normal) enjoyable!

The show was great! The music was great!. The performances were great! The sound was great! This was my first DSO show, and I'll never voluntarily miss another. And it was 4 hours long! Did I say that it was great??

On any given night, DSO puts on a fine show. This was the last night of their tour, and they pulled out all the stops playing a nearly two hour first set and lighting the place up. As always, the Casino Ballroom was a mellow place to bop with the music, enjoy a beer and flow with the rest of the tie dyed elite. All in all, nowhere else I'd rather be.

Dark Star performed a Nov 87' Dead show flawlessly. Sound was perfect. As close as you can get to the real thing. DSO is worth seeing for sure. This was my 3rd but not my last!!

For years I denied that there was a Dead afterlife. I didn't evolve to Phish, nor did I see Lesh or Weir or any post-Garcia incarnation. I've not seen Further, and had heard about DSO from people who said I should really check them out... That being said - My tastebuds were quenched by this show - the rain outside was substantial, and then reflective in the set they played. These very talented musicians drew me deep into recesses of my hippie past, tugged on the heartstrings of the hippie left in me, and put the biggest smile on my face! Can't wait to see them [& everyone who is continually inspired by a generation that we should never forget] at VIBES~ have a great summer of music, people!! pjfoo!

It was fantastically played, great absolutely fabulous performance EXCEPT the second set. I know the set lists aren't ones that are song by song hand selected, but being a girl that isn't a big fan of the what I call "disco" era Dead it lacked what I wanted. I would certainly see Dark Star again, they're magnificent as far as cover bands go, and really, I wouldn't even put them in the cover band catergory. Being young, I'm bummed that I missed out seeing the actual Dead play live, and having seen ever surviving member of the band play they're own thing, I enjoyed Dark Star much more! The Venue is awesome too, I would go back to see just about anything else!

My first show at the Pageant and I was impressed. Sound and sight lines were great, very easy to park, tickets were inexpensive and the venue was intimate and energized. The band was in fine form playing many of my favorites and some unexpected pleasures. Unlike most DSO shows, this was an original set list, drawing on influences from different eras.

Nothing like a Dead show.........well almost the Dead..U know what I mean. A wonderful nite of music and the PEOPLE. U always meet GOOD people at a MERRY PRANKSTER EVENT.. I danced alL NITE in the RAIN. DSO is better than a tribute band....their a band within themselves of talented musicians who so happen to love THE DEAD.....A great nite and Buffalo Rocks the Harbor is very well organized piece of the pie. A great nite and I needed it. I look forward to hearing them again..........PEACE!!

Great performance of a great Dead show from 4-16-72. No one can be the Grateful Dead, but they are as close as you can get.

I have seen DSO four times now, and while this wasn't the best show I have seen them perform, it was close. Everyone should see them at least once, although many will return for future shows. The venue was sold out, and although the National is not one of my favorite places to see a show (The NorVa in Norfolk,VA or the Tabernacle in Atlanta,GA are way cooler), it was great to relax on a Friday with a well performed Dead set. Jeff Matson is a killer, and has really meshed well with the group. Will hopefully see them again before the end of the year.

I went to a concert with them, my father and my wife (we are fans of the GD) but it was a disappointment. The feeling is that they want to appear to be playing an open-air concert with the hallucinated acid audience as in the 1960s, but in reality we were in a theater (Jersey City - Dec.2017) with a quiet audience just wanting hear the classic and quality sounds. The attempt to make it look like they were grooving and then started with a song (as the original GD did) did not roll. For me and for many in the audience it was a pain. We left there before the show even ended.

Dark Star is always amazing and New Year's Eve was no exception! Love these guys. Travel from afar to see them perform. The Electric Company is not our favorite venue, however. Please return to the Paramount next year!

Dark Star never disappoints. Thanksgiving Eve was no exception. This was my 6th or 7th time seeing them. Set list was awesome including; Dire Wolf, Loose Lucy, Mama Tried, Throwing Stones, Hell in a Bucket, Mexicali Blues, Terrapin Station, Bird Song , Saint Steven,Not Fade Away and more. And then they closed with Box of Rain. If you're a Dead Head, you've GOT to see Dark Star Orchestra. They are my favorite band to see in concert.

These guys give it their all and love doing it. Jeff Matson is so polished, so right on in his riffs. If you close your eyes and open your ears you'd think you were listening to Jerry. The band is so tight and well they should be after playing for 20 years (albeit with a few changes along the way). Find out where their next show is and go! It's that good!

IMHO, DSO performed a perfect performance of Grateful Dead music... Their set list was amazing and they knocked St Stephen out of the park and off the mountain. It was a fast 3hrs of listening in a beautiful setting - Penn's Peak... The acoustics are second to none as the entire building is made out of wood, hence the sound doesn't bounce around... It was like listening in my car or at home on my high-end audio system. I look forward to seeing DSO many more times...

DSO performances are my favorite evening of music since Jerry passed away. They brought out the might and majesty of the GD catalog and displayed it in full intensity Saturday night at the Palace. Amazing night, can't wait for the next DSO show!
