This was my first orchestral concert with the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, and the event was outstanding. The staff was courteous and helpful, the facility was impressive, and the concert was incredible.

I found this performance amazing because it worked on many levels. Beethoven's Symphony Number 7 was easy to get into--A very beautiful number. Performed for children, it no-doubt reached many of the spirits of the children listening raptly in the audience. Plus, the CSO performers made it sparkle, and finally, the young performers gave it the heart of endeavor. I ought to know--my daughter was one of the student performers.

The Colorado Symphony performance of April 16 featured the remarkable artistry of the associate concert master, Claude Sim. My companion and I were swept away by the expressive performance of the Mendelssohn Violin Concerto. Mr. Sim's mastery of his instrument enabled a nuanced yet powerful interpretation of this beautiful melodic work. We left the concert on a high as did many others in the aduience, judging from their prolonged appreciation displayed at the end of the concerto. Recordings may be more "perfect" but will never come close to touching one's soul as does an intelligent,, heartfelt, live performnce such as this. Congratulations to conductor, Scott O'Neil, the orchestra members, and soloist!

The Colorado Symphony and Chris Thile's American Festival were in one word AMAZING! The Symphony performed Copland and Gershwin and director Jeffrey Kahane tore up the grand piano's ivories on Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue--astounding-the audience jumped to their feet at the completion of this composition! And Chris Thile's Concerto for mandolin was really surprising and inspiring--Thile's love for the mandolin and performing is so apparent. But I found his solo performance of Bach on the mandolin one of the most amazing things I have ever heard!!

Jeffrey Kahane is my favorite CSO conductor and I simply adore Chris Thile's hipster-bluegrass groove (yeah, "hipster" and "bluegrass", what a combo eh?). Seeing Kahane's cute and animated mannerisms alongside the unique mandolin talent of Thile made my evening! My ears got the pleasure of hearing how various American composers have broken symphony "rules" over the years and how Thile is pushing the limits in his own way. While Thile's mandolin seemed a touch too dominant in volume at times over the other instruments during his main performance, it was still a delightful listening treat. During the summer I saw Thile's group the Punch Brothers perform bluegrass-interpreted cover songs of Radiohead and fell in love with Thile's unique approach to a music genre (bluegrass, folk etc.) that doesn't usually get associated with contemporary or popular culture. Hearing Thile continue to push the limits of classical and contemporary was wonderful and I hope to attend another mandolin-symphony event next year!

The concert was excellent, but the 3 seats I ordered online were very bad. I had ordered Row C in the first orchestra BUT the stage was moved out to accommodate the performers, so Row C became Row A. Being the first row, we were facing directly into the speakers mounted on the stage. To say the roar was deafening would be an understatement. We immediately got up and moved to a row further back, since it was obvious that the performance was not sold-out and there were seats available. Had this not been an option, my friends and I would have left the performance. Having grown up seeing theater and concerts in NYC, I never order or accept first-row seating.......for me, the first row is as bad as the last!

A great night out for any Beatles lover, and for anyone who enjoys hearing the oldies with the added symphony mix of instruments. A related note. The strings could have been amplified so that that added quality could be heard more. When the amplified band was playing the Symphony instrumentation was often completely lost.

This show should have been called CSO accompanies Jeans' n Classics. Meaning, CSO will not play a key role in this concert. Jeans' n Classics' lead singer, Jean Meilleur, is a 80's sound-alike singer that destroyed every Beatles song he sang by giving them his David Bowie impersonation. This concert would have been great if Jean Meilleur had not been a part of the project and the CSO would have been allowed to sing during the first act (St. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album).

I really want to rate this higher, but the sound at Boetcher is just horribly mediocre, and it's been the same every time I've been. An orchestra is meant to sound magnificent , and that's not what comes across. It's impossible to pick out any subtle nuances, and there is just no "fullness" at all.

Well, where else can you see the entire Sergeant Pepper album played live? The Jeans N' Classics band together with the CSO is great. The vocalist is talented and fun to watch, but his voice is lower pitched and raspy for covering Beatles tunes. After the intermission, they played 9 more Beatles songs with the both the CSO and this time the CSO chorus joined in. Overall, 4 stars for sure and worth seeing, but don't expect it to sound like a "clone" performance, it definitely takes on it's own sound...

The Mozart was a delight! What a nice, joyous, piece of music that just brought a smile to your face. It was like looking at a exquisite piece of fine china or crystal. Beautifully written by Mozart and performed by Kahane and the CSO! The Mahler was astounding! What a triumph! All the principal soloists were stunning, but I especially enjoyed the trumpet and the horn players. What a monumental piece of music! This was just a superb send off for Jeffrey Kahane!

I was at the dress rehearsal, the friday night concert and the sunday matinee concert as well. The performers were absolutely wonderful, both singers and players. The denver audience was more partial to the Beethoven 9th symphony, as it was by far the most familiar. But the John Adams composition, ON THE TRANSFORMATION OF SOULS, (composed to honor those who died in the 9/11 attack on the world trade center), was striking, deeply moving, modernistic in it's use of dissonance, but perfect in striking the audience in the heart with its message of sorrow, pain and horror, but with many solemn moments of quiet and thoughtfullness. I strongly recommend that you purchase the cd that's available of the first performance with the n.y. philharmonic. These performers outdid the N.Y. forces in my estimation. Both pieces were electrifying to the nearly sold out house on all 3 occasions.

I DID NOT ENJOY THE FIRST SELECTION 'ON THE TRANSMIGRATION OF SOULS' AT ALL. JUST MONOTONOUS DEPRESSING MUSIC. DID NOT TAKE ADVANTAGE OF OTHER GREAT PIECES THAT COULD HAVE BEEN PERFORMED WITH THE COLLECTED CHORUS'S THAT WERE PRESENT. BEETHOVEN'S 9TH WAS AVERAGE AT BEST. THERE WERE SOME VERY GOOD INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCES, BUT AS A WHOLE IT WAS AVERAGE.

Colorado Symphony Orchestra's performance of Beethoven's 9th was simply epic. 1) featured artist conductor did not show due to illness. 2) 50's harmony group was out of tune, and just tired, one of the men appeared I'll. 3) The orchestra and conductor were OUTSTANDING, they should have performed the whole evening, without the vocal group. The chorus' pronunciation of the text was very impressive but I would have preferred a slower tempo in order to better hear and distinguish the different vocal parts and choral techniques. The purpose of "A German Requiem" is to bring solace and comfort to humanity. The Colorado Symphony and Chorus did that and more. Sunday was a truly outstanding performance by the Colorado Symphony Orchestra. The first half was my favorite (I'm an ex-semiprofessional French horn player). Brahms Trio for French Horn, Violin, and Piano was superbly played. It's rare for me to have the opportunity to see the French horn player be featured. Piano and violin get featured almost every season. I'd like to see more of the lesser know instruments (French horn, oboe, bassoon, etc) be featured. The second half was such a wonderful contrast to the first half. The Colorado Symphony Chorus joined a larger CSO for Brams: a German Requiem. The power and blend of both organizations was almost orgasmic aurally.

Whenever I attend the Symphony with Mr. Kahane at the podium I expect to be disappointed. Saturday night's performance of Brahm's German Requiem was no exception. There were plenty of elements available to work with. The soloists were definitely up to the challenge as was the orchestra and chorus. Those three were all worthy of four stars, limited as they were by Mr Kahane's rushed, stiff tempi; especially in the fourth movement. But yet, with the quality of the chorus I preferred this performance to the last one conducted by Ms. Alsop. The Brahms trio was very well done. That is where Mr. Kahane shines. But I thought the trio wouldn't have been necessary if the Requiem wasn't such a sprint.

The concert was wonderful, don't get me wrong. But when I bought the tickets, I thought I would be seeing a pianist playing Pictures at an Exhibition. We went to this show with our family and had a great time. Even our finicky high school daughter enjoyed the show very much. Michael Cavanaugh, his band, and the Colorado Symphony performed flawlessly. Our only disappointment was that one of the medleys on the set list was omitted. We would definitely recommend this show to all, especially if you are a fan of Billy Joel's music.

I was so impressed with the presentation of Michael Cavanaugh and the Colorado Symphony Orchestra, they blended well and complemented each other. Very entertaining and as Charlie Brown in his comic strip always say's "Helped me find my Bliss. Bravo

Michael Cavenaugh was terrific. Had his own style. His band was good, esp. the drummer and saxaphonist. Can't understand the poor crowd!

Fantastic!!! We met 4 friends there and all of us thought that Michael was so incredibly talented. We had seen him in 'Movin Out" and have been fans ever since. His own band with the Colorado Symphony--which we also love-- as background were the best.

Started out a bit too heavy on the drums, but as the show went on we were amazed at the range of talent Michael Cavanaugh possesses. We would go back tonight if he had a second show!

Very enjoyable show. Music was great. Marvin Hamlisch was informative. The various ways they presented the music made the evening highly entrtaining.

We thoroughly enjoyed the evening. It was full of talent, humor and thoughtful recognition of the singers and children and symphony and chorus. The pops conductor was grand. We are looking forward to his May (FIFTIES SHOW). Paul and Nancy

My first experience at a symphony was very enjoyable. I was quite impressed with the talent and ability of the musicians. Lupo was incredible on the piano! Boettcher concert hall was beautiful and the acoustics were perfect! I couldn't get over how "tight" the orchestra was....very professional. My wife has seen many symphonies perform, she is from Seattle and she was very impressed.

The Children's Choir is great! We love the Sing-A-Long part of the concert!! The Christmas Spirit is alive and well with the CSO!!! Missed not hearing Handel's Messiah "Hallelujah Chorus"... maybe next year???

What an amazing performance! Brilliantly played and conducted. Yumi Hwang-Williams was a treat to watch, especially during "The Lark Ascending." My wife and I have heard this piece numerous times on recording and it was even better in performance. Our only complaint is not having another hour worth of music to listen too! Wonderful performance by the orchestra and soloist!

The first segment was so-so. The second segment with the cello solo I didn't like at all. It was drab with a lot of string plucking and odd pauses. The third segment had more of the uplifting, soaring melody that I can get into. The conductor was entertaining with his twitching.

I had not heard the Sibelius piece or the Shostakovitch Cello Concerto before, but they were performed beautifully. Their performance of Dvorak's New World Symphony was absolutely marvelous, though. Unforgettable, and I would have to say definitely up there with the Berlin Philharmonic's performance as conducted by Von Karajan. Their shining moment was definitely the Largo, which they did with such delicacy.
