We sat in Section 8, L28, L29 and of course we were a ways up and the stage was far but the monitors that were there to the sides of the stage were obstructed and we couldn't see a large portion of it. We had our heads bobbing back and forth all night trying to see what was on the monitor.

POSITIVE: You can t deny these two are modern day Hollywood legends. It must have felt the same to see Sinatra and Dean Martin back in the day. Classic, funny pair. NEGATIVE: At times it felt very scripted and not in the moment, and it was almost word for word as their current Netflix special. OVERALL: It was great and I m so glad I got to see them live..., before they re dead (their words). :)
The Chicago Theatre - Chicago, IL - Sun, Jun 19, 2011
....Steve and Martin's show was just that, a SHOW and a very good one at that. DO NOT expect them to do some sort of stand up routine or rehash their acts from the past. Also, you will have to enjoy or at least not mind great Blue Grass music as Steve is using this format to feature the Blue Grass band he's touring with. They're sound great, but it actually fills up a significant part of the 90 minute show. I don't know if the music was why, but quite a few people got up and left pretty expensive seats soon after the band started playing. Bottom line: Great informal comedy, banter between the two stars was hilarious and music was great. My wife and I loved it but kinda felt cheated by the amount of time used up by the music.

The two had chemistry. Although the act was not polished they were able to play off of their relationship and improvise a few very funny moments. Exemplary banjo playing. It was nice to see the intermission consist of solo by Short the solo by Martin.

One of the best spent evenings of our lives! Steve Martin & Martin Short were already of our two all time favorite funnymen, but we love them even more now! It was overall a fun night even though you could tell that the majority of the material was unrehearsed. Regarding the questions from the audience portion of the show... I am really baffled at the fact that some people think that the world revolves around them and was disgusted at two of the questions hurled at Steve Martin. Really??? Lady who used to live in NY and walk by Steve Martin expecting a hello: everyone in the world knows who he is, he would be saying hello non-stop to the rest of us if that was the protocol. And to the woman who asked if he would walk her friend down the aisle at her wedding - come on! It is people like you two who make celebrities think that regular people are all dolts. Can't we just enjoy their work and respect their privacy?

I was so looking forward to this show but both my husband and I were quite disappointed. The show was supposed to be off the cuff, I believe, but it rambled, lacked direction and wasn't all that funny. I was expecting to be falling out of my seat. It was more like a talk show format with a few laughs and interesting moments but overall a great disappointment. Wish I'd gone to Steve's banjo show instead - think that would have been much better.

I didn't know this was going to be a show where two famous comedians discuss how great they are! They basically interviewed eachother. I could've gotten all of that information from articles and books. I wanted to see a comedy show! I think that the premise of this show should have been described. I wouldn't have bought tickets if I knew it wasn't going to be a comedy show. Total waste of good money. Steve and Martin didn't even seem like they wanted to be there!

At over $70 a ticket for our family of four, I do not feel like we got value for our money at this show. A good portion of the show was watching film clips, another portion was advertisement for books and music CD's. Steve and Martin seemed annoyed to be there and although there were some funny moments, there were many uncomfortable and silent moments as well. Folks around us were not laughing either. We left feeling like we had paid lots of money for a fine meal and got bad service and cold food. We attend shows and events frequently and in fact saw Steve Martin and his banjo band at Ravinia last year. Paid a lot loss and got an amazing show. This was a huge disappointment. The TWIX commercial at the start was pretty low too.

Steve Martin and Martin Short have known each other for 30 years. The timing with which they interact is impeccable. You can tell they know each other very well. Marty sang, Steve played banjo, they sang together, there were video clips, Marty dressed up as Jiminy Glick and did a bit. They even took audience questions, although this segment could have been executed a little better. Nevertheless, these are iconic superstars who delivered the goods. If they schedule a tour, don't miss them!

Martin and Short were great. Entertaining, informative, revealing stories not heard before about the start of their respective careers. I particularly enjoyed Martin explaining comedic theory. The good vibes came to a screeching halt when the audience was permitted to ask unvetted questions. One woman (a former New Yorker) took the opportunity to be rude to Martin. Another self-servingly requested that Short sing a birthday song for her son. A third, oddly, asked that Martin step in as wedding host for an audience member, with that person's own father sitting right there in the audience. If they repeat this show, I suggest the audience questions be selected in advance after being pre-screened. The guys build up a great vibe with laughter and thoughtful discussion, only to have it derailed by those who took the mic after them.

Can I get my money back? I should have taken the show title literally, as the performance was indeed Very Stupid. And what I mean by that is Not Funny. The only exception was Martin Short's brief appearance as Jiminy Glick interviewing Steve Martin. The majority of the show was just the two of them, sitting in arm chairs side by side, recalling encounters with other famous people. It was like watching an episode of Inside the Actors Studio. And that was not entertaining or what I expected to see. Being a big fan of both mens' work, it was sincerely disappointing.

I love both these guys but am a huge fan who knows their reputations. It was a pleasure to see them chat on stage and watch the old clips. The worst part of the show, unfortunately, was the Question and Answer session at the end with the audience. Most every question was awkward and left me leaving feeling foolish that I attended. I am not sure the motivation of some of the questions from the audience. "When you lived near me in NY and walked by me on the street, why did you not say 'hi'". Again, I already know Steve's reputation. Not one question about Damages, Picasso at..., or Novocain. I guess I am more critical of the audience than the show.

My parents raised my younger brother and I on the comedy of SCTV. Three Amigos was a main staple in our household, and we know Martin Short Goes Hollywood by heart. So when the chances to see Martin Short and Steve Martin together came up, I jumped at the chance, surprised by and wincing at ticket prices, but believing the show would be worth it. While my family had a good time and both Short & Martin were amusing and Martin and the band quite entertaining (we were surprised we liked the bluegrass music), we all found ourselves wanting more; the show seemed really short. So much so that the end of it was a musical number about how they had to "fill 5 minutes." I'm still not sure if this is part of the show or if someone was actually standing off stage and saying the contract stated they do a full hour and 45 minutes (which is what they said happened). The sound was also terrible. We were in the mezzanine level and I found myself having to struggle to hear, leaning forward and that didn't help at all. They had 2 big screens on either side of the stage for all of the old, hilarious clips of either man that they showed but on our side, the speakers were in the way. And the footage was indeed a bit poor/grainy, but it's older stuff so I wasn't that surprised. I wish it had been better, but what I did LOVE was Martin Short's solo time. Him, a piano, singing and dancing....took me right back to my childhood and I found myself wishing for so much more of him! Steve Martin's solo time was all about bluegrass and I was pleasantly surprised I enjoyed the music and wowed by what a great banjo player he is. But again, for the prices I paid (which Steve Martin tried to defend and explain right at the start of the show by telling us all how many people are involved with the show and need to get paid), the show was really too short and they need WAY better sound so that the short show that IS produced is able to be fully enjoyed!

After reading a few reviews of the show, I didn't know what to expect. Some people wrote they loved it, some didn't, but I absolutely loved it. Of course I went because it's 2 of my favorite comedian/ actors of all time. However, their interaction and timing with one another was perfect. They compliment one another and are just as hilarious on their own. It reminded me of a Martin & Lewis routine. I mostly enjoyed listening to the stories they would tell, whether it was about Hollywood, movies or their everyday lives. On this night we were lucky enough to have David Letterman as a surprise guest. The crowd went absolutely insane when he walked out. They whole show was amazing, including the music from the Steep Canyon Rangers. Martin , Short and Letterman really seemed to be enjoying themselves and had the crowd going all night. There were many standing ovations for these 3 great entertainers. The show was worth every penny.

My name is Brady Speers and I cannot tell you how great the show was. I wasn t sure what to expect with this show and tour entitled A Very Stupid Conversation . Martin Short, another one of my favorites, played the fantastic role of stirring up the craziness between these two senior citizen jokers. It was a funny mixture of casual comedy, music, general insanity on the part of Short and the two of them spending most of the evening cutting each other down in some of the funniest ways ever heard. To see these two older men command the stage with such energy and passion after 3 decades of making most of us laugh was quite a pleasant surprise.

As a HUGE fan of Steve Martin and Martin Short, this was a must-see! I wasn't sure what to expect, especially based on the title. The evening began with a "very stupid conversation" between the two funny men, but there was nothing remotely stupid about it at all. In fact, their conversation was more of an informal, back-and-forth interview, revealing quite a bit about their careers, their philosophies on comedy, and more. But, when that grew a bit dull, the two changed formats. For example, Martin Short sang two numbers (one about Osama Bin Laden), Steve Martin performed two numbers on banjo (one was a hilarious duet with Martin Short), and they took just the right amount of questions from the audience. Martin Short's alter-ego Jiminy Glick made an appearance to ask Steve a few questions (hysterical), and a rather expansive video montage of comedic skits and movie scenes was interspersed throughout the event. The entire "conversation" lasted just over an hour and a half.

It was like I was at a party and got to eavesdrop on a conversation between my two good friends, Steve and Marty....or as I like to call them; Steve Martin Short. At times, Steve seemed to feel uncomfortable about the whole idea but that was probably just some insecurity about holding a conversation in front of a theatre full of strangers, especially since rumor has it that he's not great with strangers. And this fact was unfortunately brought up as the very first question by some woman who apparently has passed Steve in the street several times and wondered aloud why he wouldn't ever say "hello" to her. I think I would ignore her too! I wanted to boo her question, but I was afraid people would think I was booing Steve. Marty was able to overcome uncomfortable spots with his quick witt to fill in gaps caused by stupid audience questions. Clips were shown from the past along with an appearance by Jiminy Glick which were all very enjoyable. A bed was rolled on stage so Steve could take a nap during Marty's song about the happily departed Bin Laden. Overall, it was extremely entertaining to watch these two terribly clever and entertaining fellows. I wouldn't hesitate to buy tickets over and over again to see these two in what turned out to be not a very stupid conversation at all.

I can't begin to explain how much I enjoyed this show! These two guys have made me laugh for most of my life, and it was a wonderful experience to see them in person, and together. They have tremendous chemistry that was evidenced throughout the show. There were plenty of throwback video clips to remind you of how much they've contributed to comedy. There were some obviously staged moments that were funny enough, and they will still do just about anything for a laugh. My personal favorite was when they sat together and seemed to go off script and just tell stories. If felt like you were sitting in your living room with them. The musical portion with Steve and the Stone Canyon Rangers was an added bonus. Those boys can play!

I picked the seats so there's no one to blame but myself. I purchase 6 tickets for the family and so I picked, lets just say not the regulars seats I would pick thinking every seat in the house is good. NOPE!! A lot of the show it's necessary to watch the large screens. The only problem in Section 8, row K and seats 31 thru 36 was that the screens are pointing the other direction and there was a large @ss pole in the way. It was a hilarious show both those guys are the best!! The Three Amigos all time favorite movie. I actually enjoyed the show so much that if those were the only seats in the house left I would go again. Although I would rather have sat on a dirty trash can and watched the show. Almost 2 1/2 hours of comedy and music. My favorites were the show business anecdotes and a moment where a Scotsman picks up Martin Short, who becomes a bagpipe that the Scott plays. We had cheap seats in the back and could hear and see (the video screens) just fine. Worst part of it was driving down from Los Angeles on a Friday; we left at 4:00 p.m. and were still late. Why have your only performance in the area be in Orange County on a school night when a lot of your fan base is going to have to drive a long distance?

We were so excited to see a concert with Steve martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers but were disappointed to find that there was more zany humor with Martin Short than anything else. Also, this is almost the same exact show that is running on Netflix right now, right down to the songs that were played by Steve and the band. If you are a fan of Steve Martin and his band and his music it is likely that you have already seen the show on tv. Someday I hope to go to a performance of just Steve and his music. It is so good! From the moment the preshow film started of their childhood and growth to the class comedians they have become it was nothing but enjoyment going back down memory lane with them and unadulterated laughter! The 2 hours seemed like 15minutes! They were that Great! Money well spent for an evening with my precious and beautiful wife. If they ever come to town once again we will definitely go enjoy their show again :)

I was thrilled to be able to take my daugther to see Steve Martin at the Saenger Theater in New Orleans for her 43rd birthday. She tells her friends that Steve is our family's "Patron Saint." She, her dad, and I love his creative, intelligent sense of humor. What a gifted and talented person he is! A pure genius that has generously spread his abilities across the spectrum of entertainment. And he seems like such a nice "wild and crazy" guy. His band, The Steep Canyon Rangers, blew us away. Blue grass isn't my favorite genre of music, but if Steve Martin plays it, deal me in. WOW!!! However, I wish he'd left Martin Short, with his juvenile, potty mouth, at home. He was downright vulgar with his language and performance. I didn't expect to see this type of garbage on stage with a giant like Steve Martin, although Steve seems to love him and his talent. If he had been the main performer, I'd have walked out when he did his vulgar, blasphemous, un-funny "brother of Jesus" routine. He is 67 years old, for crying out loud! He does, however, have an amazing singing voice, but too bad his talent hasn't matured with his age as has Steve's. I endured him to be able to give my daughter Steve Martin for her birthday, and she was absolutely delighted. Thank you, Steve! We love you!!!

This show was hysterically funny! I paid quite a bit for front row, center seats, but would do it again to see these legendary actor/comedians!! And the Saenger is glorious!

Steve Martin and Martin short were straight up amazing! They are both are highly multitalented and combined those for an incredible, lighthearted, fun evening! I highly recommend this event! It is entirely worth it! My five star rating is based on their performance alone. If I were reading it combined with the venue it would have a lower rating simply because Comerica Theatre had several issues that night that were uncomfortable and unpleasant (and I had been at an event two months ago there that had the exact same issues so they obviously are not addressing them)\u2026 until they get these corrected, I would highly suggest that artists choose other venues to perform at.

They exchanged back-handed compliments throughout the show. Very funny! Some jokes were old, but their delivery and charisma made it work. The 'Steep Canyon Rangers' played about 20 minutes of outstanding bluegrass.

Steve Martin and Martin Short didn't disappoint. Seeing the clips from their movies and tv appearances was a fantastic opening. Their stories and comedy, musical antics and physical comedy (especially Short's multiple costume changes) were extremely entertaining. But it was the music of the Steep Canyon Rangers and Steve Martin on banjo that really made the evening. The only negative part of the event was the very poor service in the food and drinks lines at the venue.

These guys are still great, they brought lots of laughs with an excellent balance of leaning on their remarkable careers and keeping things fresh and current. Great timing, and you can tell both of them really understand their place and strong suits as comedians. The added bonus was getting to see Steve Martin and his band play some bluegrass, it was a real treat! My gut says this is probably optimized for the 30-70 age group, but there might be some cool kids out there that might surprise me ;) Took my dad for his birthday, he laughed just as much, if not more than me. No lulls, well paced... Highly recommend!

Quirky Steve Martin combined with the wild abandon of Martin Short made the evening roll along at a great pace. The Steep Canyon Rangers bluegrass group was the glue that held it together.

Steve Martin and his banjo were amazing. Martin Short was hilarious, although I was familiar with his stories from reading his book. The musicians were unbelievable. Just amazing. The violinist (or "fiddler") played until his bow was literally fraying. The show was FANTASTIC. The ENTIRE audience jumped to the feet for a standing ovation.

I loved listening to Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers! I also loved the back and forth slap stick between Steve and Marty. It was like watching Saturday night live with only the great parts! Martin Short is extremely witty and quick and Steve Martin is his usual amazing self! A great combo and a must-see event if you get the chance!

The comfy chair banter between Martin and Short was great - they do seem like good friends. Separately, they were entertaining as well, and Steve Martin's banjo playing really has improved! Seats were excellent (3rd row center), but wish the sound was better - we were seated slightly forward of the speaker stacks and missed some dialog! Needed to have some speakers turned inward!

Extemely disappointed in Steve Martin that he would partner with Martin Short who exhibited childish and profane skits. His mockery of religion was offensive.
