The incredible display of musicianship and outrageous talent, paired with the superb sounding and well designed Burnsville PAC, was a bit like pairing a complex Merlot with the delicate gentleness of grilled lake trout. Each on their own were more than one could ask for, but didn't go together well. The event was quite enjoyable when all was said and done.

This was a great show! Camper Van Beethoven opened, and Cracker came on stage later. I was not as familiar with CVB, but I enjoyed them. Great guitar work from Greg Lisher and David Immerglück (of Counting Crows). Cracker opened with Low, which was a surprise. I thought they would keep that one for later. Johnny Hickman (guitar) was awesome - every time he played a great guitar riff, he grinned. He seemed to be really enjoying himself. David Lowery sounded great with both bands. The man has stamina. CVB started playing at 9:00PM, and the whole show lasted past midnight. When they played Eurotrash Girl, everybody was singing along. Here's the band lineups: Camper Van Beethoven: David Lowery - guitar, lead vocals Greg Lisher - lead guitar David Immerglück - guitar, mandolin, pedal steel guitar, backing vocals Victor Krummenacher - bass, backing vocals Jonathan Segel - violin, guitar, keyboard, backing vocals Frank Funaro - drums, backing vocals Cracker David Lowery - guitar, lead vocals Johnny Hickman - lead guitar, vocals Sal Maida - bass David Immerglück - backing vocals, pedal steel guitar Frank Funaro - drums, backing vocals If you get a chance to see this show, don't miss it.

The songs from both bands seemed tighter , I think as the result of the extensive touring they've done this year. This didn't seem to wear on them . They were relaxed and having fun as they delivered the tunes to friend & fans in Boston. I've yet to regret seeing these guys. It's always a good time.

They sounded outstanding. I just don't get why they don't acknowledge their excellent work on the "Forever" cd. Overall song choices pretty good.

I have listened to this band all my life and my parents had seen them before, so I wasn't all that shocked when I realized I was the only guy at the front of the stage below the age of 21, so to hear the band even mention it in their set with stories about 'old' people just made me laugh. I enjoyed this show tremendously, the crowd was into it but not ripping your head off, the band was enjoying themselves and very tight and extremely talented. This show was everything I hoped a Cracker show would be and Camper Van Beethoven just made the whole experience even more amazing. I think more people my age need to see this band it is not an old man band at all. Old men just have good taste in music.

David Lowery shows up with both of his bands for this tour, Camper and Cracker. Lowery is a very talented guy and deserves every ounce of respect he can get. About a thousand folks showed up at the Pageant, the balcony was closed. Camper started at 8 and played for 1-1/2 hours or so. Lowery came back out with the Cracker lineup after a break and played til 11.20. We brought friends who couldn't name a song from either band and they thoroughly enjoyed the show recognizing a few tunes along the way. We, of course knew most of the material except for some of the steller new stuff from both groups. The show pretty much ROCKED with Camper continuing within their psychadelic folk niche and Cracker cranking out the soulful funk. The show lacked any special lighting or stage effects but both bands held the audience's attention with their crafted tuneship and if you were paying attention some pretty nice vintage equipment. Standout performers were Lowery in both bands with the violinist for Camper doing a fine (and trippy) job and the lead guitarist for Cracker bringing their show ALIVE. Ticket prices were fair, venue was good. Highly Recommended Rock Performance.

Honestly, this was my favorite band at an intimate venue. I've seen all kinds of bands at all kinds of places, and this was my favorite concert EVER!!! Both bands rocked the house! The Cracker boys were in fine form. They even ditched the keyboards for more garage raunch. I had a terrific time. The venue and crowd were great!

It was good to see Cracker rock again. They largely did away with David Lowery's acoustic strumming and played rock n' roll like they did in their mid 90's heyday. Johnny Hickman's Les Paul stylings were superb as usual, but he can't come close to hitting the high notes on the "Sweet Thistle Pie" backing vocal. His only misstep of the night. The drummer was average. I would've liked a little more snap in the kit. Lowery is obviously entering his Bob Weir stage, what with the beard and extra 35 lbs... Hickman hasn't aged a day. The bass player was decent, if unremarkable. The songs from the new album were all actually pretty good. As I said, it's nice to see this band back to rocking again and largely moving away from Lowery's plaintive strummy ballads.

The Bluebird is an excellent venue - great acoustics, and small enough that you can get up close and personal with the band. Cracker - truly amazing live. They are one of the few bands I've seen whose live performances are note perfect and sound exactly like their recordings. Johnny is a fantastic guitarist, and David's powerful voice is always a pleasure to hear.

If you sat home bored on August 27th, 2009 shame on you. You could have been at Vogue Theatre rocking with Cracker. An excellent local band did the warm up honors. I wish bands had their name visible on stage, seeing is remembering. So telling you "they" were very good won't help them or you very much. I'm not a diehard Cracker fan but I like them and know a good band when I hear one. Those guys are professionals all the way. The show on Thursday accelerated to the finish. They started off fine and from there got deeper and deeper into their groove. David Lowery's voice is so listenable, unique and certainly was in fine form. The sound was really good too. I could actually listen to the music and understand the lyrics. They won me over, I'm a bigger fan since that show. So next time you have the chance to see and hear Cracker perform go for it! Or you could stay home and be bored.

Cracker and Adam Ezra both played unbelievable sets. I had never seen Adam Ezra but he blew the place away with a show that I will most definitely catch again. Cracker came on and played a lot of their new album mixed in with the hits from the past. 2 hours of non stop energy from Cracker. David Lowery is a talent that has never gotten his due. If you have the chance to see them, please do so. I've been dragging people to see them for years and have never walked away disappointed. Johnny Hickman and the rest of the band are top talents and I've never figured out why they aren't more popular. Ten songs into the set list, the place was rocking, as it was from the first note of the night. Lowery doesn't waste time with small talk between songs, instead taking a quick drink of water and then launching into the next great song. Trust me, the are one of the best live bands of our time and if you have the chance to listen to them or catch them live, them do so.

Having last seen David Lowery with his original band CVB ..this was a treat and pretty hard rockin' to boot. Opening with what I feel is the best Cracker album (through and through) that they have ever put out (after years of muted silence), it was a treat to hear the 1st three songs off the new album to start the show ..to think that "Turn On" is a top 20 hit (as David says), well, I guess the masses aren't always stupid ... True rockers of the night: Sunshine in the Land of Milk and Honey (truly unbelievable) and Hey Bret (Do You Know what time it is) ....these songs just butt rock ... Along wit hthe old classics ,this was a show for the ages (irrespective of fact I had to haul my tuchus out to Elgin ...yeah ,Elgin .....)

IN TYPICAL CRACKER FASHION THE SHOW IN THE DUCKROOM (MAY 15) WAS FANTABUOUS! ALTHOUGH THEIR STAND-BYS WERE A REAL TREAT, THEIR SELECTIONS FROM THEIR NEW CD "SUNRISE IN THE LAND OF MILK AND HONEY" WAS PHENOMINAL! THEY ARE A TRUE ALTERNATIVE BAND! ONCE AGAIN HICKMAN AND LOWERY DIDN'T LET US DOWN!

Granted, I'm pretty easy going and not much of a critic.....but I loved this show! The intimate setting made of the Hard Rock Cafe made this concert a personal experience for me. Not only did Cracker play their classics, but they also played several tunes off their new record. If you haven't bought the new album, I'd be on that like a duck on a June bug. As far as a live show goes, I rank it just one notch shy of the rolling stones. Cracker sounded excellent, they played about 20 songs, and Pabst Blue Ribbon on tap. That's a triple whammy you bunch of monkeys. Plus BWS was on the friggin' scene. One extra note: the concert was sold out. If you didn't buy your tickets in advance, you were about as sharp as two pounds of wet liver. Go on son, buy the album, and for the love of god go to the next Cracker gig and stop whining about missing the last one. I demand a flip. Flip it. Yes, yes of course.

You know it's great band when Beatle Bob shows up...in spite of his manic antics. Gotta hand it to him, he know good music when hears it. Start to finish, every song rocked. New stuff from "Sunrise in the Land of Milk and Honey" kept the crowd up as well as older tunes like Teen Angst and Eurotrash Girl. Yalla Yalla was a high point, with the veins on Daivid Lowery's neck standing out. Johnny Hickman was in fine form on guitar. Low points... my ears rang for 3 days and they played nothing from Countrysides.

Cracker at the Duck Room at Blueberry Hill was a show I've been waiting to see since I ever heard my first Camper Van Beethoven track. 20 years too late, but worth the wait. Backyard Tire Fire opened and had a great sound, and then Cracker got on stage. The intimacy of the Duck Room meant that we were up close and personal. The crowd was great, and even the songs I didn't know left me singing their choruses on the top of my lungs. The band was in great form and performed songs from nearly every Cracker album (no Camper Van Beethoven songs). Everyone - from the die hard fanclub fans to the tagalong spouses, from 20 year olds to 60 year olds enjoyed the show and had an awesome time. A great band in a great venue.

Overall, a fun show at the recently-revamped Crocodile. The opening band was decent, but a little slow for my tastes. Several of their songs seemed to go on for a looong time. Cracker came on fairly late, just before 11pm. As an aside, I gotta ask--why does a weekday night show have to be so late? Wouldn't they sell more tickets if the show went from 7 11:00 instead of 9:30 1:30?. Most people have to work in the morning! But I digress--back to the review. After a short chat, David & the band launched into three tunes from their new album. All were well-received, but it seemed that the crowd wanted their better-known (classic?) stuff. Euro Trash Girl came next, which got the crowd going. One humorous moment happened going into the third song, when the drummer started playing the wrong song. They all stopped playing, laughed, and threw their towels at him. The rest of the set consisted of a mixture of old and new. The highlights were "Teen Angst", "Get Off This", and "Low", which was the final song fo the night. The night was pretty much terrific--the only exception being a drunk a$$hole waving a blue baseball hat who thought it was great fun to put his hands in other people's faces, and toss dollar bills on the laptop computer David Lowery had on a stand in front of him. After he was ejected, the show was much more enjoyable.

How this band ended up playing in such a small venue I can't figure out, but I'm not one to look a gift horse in the mouth. The mighty Cracker did not fail to make this one of the best shows I've ever been too. They played all their hits plus most of the new album "Sunrise In The Land Of Milk And Honey". They were incredible. The show was made even better by having a top rate opening act, Backyard Tire Fire a local band with global potential. Johnny Hickman even joined them for a couple of numbers (awesome). If you've never seen either of these bands do yourself a favor and check them out the next chance you get. Absolutely guaranteed to satisfyingly scratch your rock itch.

Cracker started their show with 3 songs from the new release, Sunrise in the Land of Milk and Honey. By the time those three songs had been completed it became apparent to frontman, David Lowery that the crowd was somewhat tame. So back to their roots they went. For the next 45 minutes the crowd received nothing but the solid classic Cracker complete with Johnny Hickman's guitars riffs and David's towering scratchy vocals. Overall the show was placed in an interesting venue at Mad Maggies with few technical issues and pretty good sound. Cracker plays River North tonight in Chicago and if you have the opportunity to see them you won't be dissappointed.

While the latest Cracker Album is not my personal favorite, one cut- Tune In Turn On- is certainly one of my favorite tunes! True to form, Cracker put on an excellent show. The play list included many songs from previous albums and, of course, songs from the new album. True to passion and style, Cracker gives us a realistic and "in your face" dose of our everyday lives and feelings in an affirmative and warm style. Cracker has a very loyal following for this reason. At the end of the day, to see Cracker at an intimate and comfortable venue such as the Aladdin theatre in Portland Oregon, is a real treat, and fulfilling bite of enjoyment.

The BB King venue was fantastic, intimate and with a solid, well designed sound system. Was my first, but hopefully not last, time seeing an act there. Even at the back of the room, standing at the bar, you're no more than 50 feet from the band on stage. CVB kicked it off with their always interesting mix of blistering rock riffs, inspired fiddle, and world music. Cracker took the stage an hour and a half later, with Johnny Hickman's laser guitar riffs blowing the crowd away. This band is on point - very tight. Must be tough to make up a set list when a band has such a well of material, but the set (wish I could remember it all) included a pleasing blend of their best known material (Low, Euro Trash Girl, Teenage Angst), coupled with a sampling of their catalog across time (including newer stand-out songs from their Berkeley to Bakersfield double-CD release, like Almond Grove). Loved this show from beginning to end, and wish there was a second encore!

Dave Lowery and Johnny Hickman are superb story tellers--true Americana artists. They are backed on this tour by tight, spot on bandmates, including a young woman on keyboards who was as good as anyone I have heard. They played a few of their classics as always, but the real pleasure from the evening was the introduction of their new Berkeley to Bakersfield songs. Those songs and the two-in-one album are extraordinary. Played lived, they come alive in the heart, the mind, and the soul, touching to the core of things from many, many different perspectives. If you get the chance, go to hear them! It is well worth it!

Cracker is touring in support of their new 2 CD set "Berkeley to Bakersfield". One disc of Berkeley punk, one disc of Bakersfield California country. Trust me, it works. Cracker played two sets at the sold out Duck Room, opening each set as the duo of David Lowery and Johnny Hickman, then bringing keys, pedal steel, bass and drums on stage. A packed room was just as appreciative of the new songs as they were of old favorites. Good times- catch them on tour this year! Crackersouldotcom...

Enjoyed Camper Van, but it was overextended and they didn't play "Where the Hell Is Bill" or "Club Med Sucks". Cracker rocked better than ever! Camper was trippy but tight, very well-rehearsed with complex guitar fiddle interplay and those eastern sounding alternate scale things they've always done so well. I hadn't seen them live for about 25 years (they were opening for REM on the Life's Rich Pageant tour, I think), so it took a second to get my mind around the age of the band members (the lead singer of the superb openers looked, in contrast, like he was about 18, and I'm almost as old as Lowery), but they opened the show with two of the all-time greats from "Key Lime Pie" and I was already blissfully swept away. Alas, no "When I Win the Lottery", but they did the obligatory "Take the Skinheads Bowling". After opening with a couple of rockers (including "100 Flower Power Maximum" - an unexpected treat), Cracker (which looked like it had the same drummer from Camper) basically split their set into two sections; the first was a bunch of their country oriented throwaway joke songs written by the guitarist Johnny Hickman (stuff like "Mr. Wrong" - fun on the albums where you can FF/skip after you've heard them a couple of times), and they almost lost me. They wrapped up the country stuff the classic and crowd favorite "Eurotrash Girl", then were back to being Cracker proper for another 6-7 terrrific Lowery written tunes, a couple from their last album (e.g. "Yalla Yalla"). No "Take Me Down to the Infirmary" or "I'm a Little Rocket Ship", but they did "Don't Fuck Me Up (with Peace and Love)". The encore didn't quite work with Camper coming back up first. They were great, but the transition back from Cracker was abrupt (maybe the sets would have seemed this way too, but there was a long break between the Camper set and the Cracker set). For the Cracker encore, they picked a great song, "Loser", but it seemed like an odd and slow choice for an encore. A great show by Lowery & Co.

Great show - sound was good, the band was having a blast up there and made for a real fun time. Would have liked some flexibility with the set list - Duty Free, Golden Age. I know... so much to choose from, but those are masterpieces! Not as familiar with CVB, but loved the mix between the 2 bands, music and crews. Oh, Man, the Fine Line is really a dump ;o( The smell in the men's room reminded me of the Long Bar in Tijuana.

Great night of varied music from American Scarecrows to Camper van Beethoven through Cracker! It was great to hear the CVB songs that I thought I would never hear live and Cracker rocked the house! They easily could have played 30 completely different tunes and it would have been just as rocking!

When Camper Van Beethoven opens for Cracker, it makes for a fantastic concert. Splitting his time almost evenly between the two bands, David Lowery doesn't really cater to an audience as much as he rolls over them. Camper Van Beethoven, mostly known for a bouncy, lighter sound than Cracker, presented many songs with a darker current, alternating those tunes with favorites such as Club Med Sucks and All Her Favorite Fruit. That set ended with Take The Skinheads bowling, and Pictures Of Matchstick Men. Highlights included Lowery's comment, "We're a jam band. No, really we are" and four of the five members of CVB stepping up to microphones for a chorus of "Make me a sandwich" during a song about a drug trip soured by a large bird which morphed into a trip about traveling to Sweden, vipers, and "anti-venom". Beetle Bob was present, dancing right in front of the stage, and all bands were taped for unofficial (ie, no money involved) bootleg release. (Previous Cracker shows in STL have been taped, so I presume that all parties involved had permission.) Cracker took the stage after a short intermission which allowed Lowery to change his red shirt, and ran through hits such as "Get Off This," and "Low", rarities such as "Redneck Mother", favorites like "Big Dipper", and newer material such as "Hand Me My Inhaler" and "Tune In Turn On Drop Out". Cracker's songs are always tinged with a nod to country, and Johnny Hickman showed why he's one of rock's most under-appreciated guitarists. As a four-man band (on this particular night), Cracker delivers solid rock and roll, but with some of the most devious, or make that mischievous, lyrics you'll ever hear. It's good to see many younger people at this show, because songs like "Friends" and "Eurotrash Girl" are a much needed injection of humor these days. I've brought four different friends to see Cracker over the years, and all of them have enjoyed the experience. After twenty years, this is one band that still delivers far more than its ticket price. PS: For David and Johnny: I'm the guy who always yells, "Thank you" between songs, instead of the usual offerings. And I always mean it.

From the highly energetic opening act, Poison Control Center, to the encore I was entertained. This was my first time to attend a concert at the Pageant, but definitely not my last. We stayed next door at the Moonrise so everyone in my group was able to really let their hair down. Subsequently we spent way more on booze than we intended, but had an awesome time. While going in I only had a passing familiarity with some Camper Van Beethovan songs, I was totally hooked by their jam band vibe. Their fiddler is awesome and I loved how some of the instrumentals seemed to morph from a latin tune into something Bolshevikesque. Seeing Cracker's performance-Johnny Hickman in particular has us pumped up with anticipation for three upcoming "Three Amigos" gigs in Colorado next month. Can't wait!

Cracker and Camper always put on a great show. They seem to truly appreciate the audience and performed at a top-notch level while mixing in old, new, popular and obscure songs. No filler here; no going thru the motions; just a fun show to watch at a very high level. I llok forward to their next trip to Denver.

OMG what a pleaseant suprise, Wall of sound, ska punk, high energy CVB had the Bluebird jumping. Acoustics were perfect. Voice a little hafamrd to discern but small nit for otherwise great performance. Cracker was a bit of a letdown, playing many new songs that the audience was not familiar with. But salvaged their great repution tby playing impecable versions of a couple of their classics, Euro Trash Girl brought t ears to my eyes it was so unexpected and one of their best in my mind. Low also had the fans smiling.

Incredibly tight musicians, both bands never fail to deliver an amazing live show. The sound at the Bluebird was great, not bottom heavy as it can be. These guys are at their best live.

These two are amazing in this type of venue. It's incredible that musicians this talented would play a small bar for $20. As they sang "they been around the world" and they ROCKED C-Bus last night. Incredible show.

We did not realize that the two bands were inter-related, came to see Cracker and loved Camper Van Beethoven, too. The two bands have such different sounds but both kept the crowd moving the entire time. We loved the lead-in stories and would have liked to have heard more.
