The master was amazing and his opening at Tim Bowman was no joke Chene Park is a gem in Detroit s repertoire with great music and the river as a backdrop it can t be beat and of course I have to mention the city s beautiful people!
David Sanborn was great as usual but, the piano player was phenomenal. I love when performers interact with their audience and David did this through the show. A great show.
Wait, I was wearing sandals...no socks! WOW! These guys are FANTASTIC! Earl can play that guitar sooooo so smoothly and David is such a talented sax player. Thanks gentlemen and to your musicians for coming to Kettering, Ohio -- please DO come again.
Truly a great night of music. Earl Klugh and his band started the show. Such a talented guitarist playing beautiful music. Had a truly great band especially the keyboardist who was so energetic! My favorite song was "Back In Central Park" which featured individual band members. Bottom line: Earl is a master of the acoustic guitar! David Sanborn and his band took the stage next. I can easily say David Sanborn is just the best! He played so many great songs with a mastery unequaled. I particularly loved his final number "The Dream". Awesome show I would highly recommend for anyone who loves good music played by extremely talented musicians.
The concert was amazing! It was a perfect night, a slight breeze, clear skies...then a fantastic performance by David and his very accomplished band. The mix was just right, and every song was great! We've seen David before and have always enjoyed his music; tonight was no exception. Earl Klugh was very good, too, as the opening act, although I think he would be more enjoyable in a smaller, more intimate setting. I'd prefer hearing more from him than with a full band.
Earl opened the show, but only played for an hour. He was the main reason we went to this concert. He's smooth jazz personified. David Sanborn, as good as he is, tends to be louder and more basic jazz oriented. My big disappointment was that Earl packed up the bus and left the venue during the time David was on stage, and was not available for autographs, etc.
The music overall was very good. Music seemed to be a little more in the realm of the "Blues"as opposed to Jazz but still enjoyable.

A very enjoyable show. Sanborn and his combo covered everything from smooth jazz to blues to rock and roll. Excellent long jam sessions, outstanding musicians, especially Peterson, the keyboard player. A tight sound, always together. Klugh was entertaining, but his group was not always together.

Earl Klugh opened the evening with such great music I thought he might steal the show from David Sanborn. But David Sanborn and his band were as fantastic as I had hoped. It was an incredibly enjoyable evening under the stars.

Earl Klugh was fairly good - although he played far more up-tempo, louder songs than what I was expecting. It appeared he got along well with his band. Dave Sanborn's band seemed to be featured more than Dave himself, especially the guitarist, who spent a fair amount of time on two extended solos.

This was a fantastic concert that highlighted the talent that these two artists have. The show started out with Earl Klugh and his nine piece band. They turned it out. Earl played some of his cuts and then let his bass player, his keyboard player and then one of his backup singers do songs they recorded. Then it was time for the man, David Sanborn! David and his band simply were fantastic. I seen them in Covington, Kentucky last year at the Madison Theater. They were good at the Madison but they simply were fantastic at the Fraze. This was my first visit to the Fraze and I will be going back especially when artists like Earl Klugh and David Sanborn are on the agenda. David is one of the best sax players out there and he did not dissapoint!

We had a blast. We love Sanborn. And there's a lot to be said for having an opening group like Earl Klugh get the crowd going. Earl's group was phenominal. And as good as they were - and they were really good ... Sanborn came out and just blew us all away. He's just on this whole other level. How he makes a "regular" sax sound like a soprano sax is beyond me. Got to hear old favorites and new songs. And of course he saved our favorite for the finale. I would see him again in a minute. Totally worth it!

Let me first say that I am a huge fan of David Sanborn and have all his CD's. However, the vast majority of his show seemed to have focused on his band members and not David. Several times, David only played for about 30 seconds at the end of a tune to finish it, while the rest of it highlighted either the keyboards, the drummer, the base player or guitarist. To many tunes were performed this way and didn't get to listen to "the" David Sanborn.

I was secretly pleased to note that not many tickets were selling for this performance; not for the band, but for my own selfish purposes. I ended up buying them on sale as they were trying to boost the ticket sales. I also new that if I bought in the cheap seats I could probably move up to the host of empty seats in front of me. As it turned out I liked my seat fine and had no problems with view or sound with the exception of a little muddiness from the bass. The band was very tight, well-prepared, and could read each other easily as they played off each other. While all the musicians were great, and fantastic solos abounded, I thought there was a little something extra special coming out of Andre Berry, the bass player, that night which served to ignite a spark in everybody else's playing. He and Billy Kilson on the drums were rhythmically connected all night, as these two instruments should be, laying down that groove for the other musicians to "dance" upon. One interesting thing was how much older David looked as he was assisted out to his stool and did not actually leave the stage before his "encore" (he said it was a long way to get backstage and all the way out again for his age so we should pretend he actually just did that). In fact, as I looked around at the audience I was struck with how much older we all looked, myself included. I'm afraid the younger generation just does not know all the greatness that has come before and hence is missing these opportunities to witness it before it's gone. Anyway I want to be clear that playing-wise Sanborn has not slowed down a bit, playing with his characteristic sound, skill and panache. And as a personality, he seems to be a perfect gentleman, carefully sharing the spotlight and applause with his fellow musicians. Bravo.

The sound levels of the individual instruments were so turned up that all instruments overwhelmed each other and the show could not be enjoyed. The show was more like a earhurtingly loud rock performance. Only the very last song was a Sanborn staple, which he announced as: "we play this just to leave you with wanting more...." Mr. Sanborn said little and came across rather arrogant. In about an hour when I was just about ready to walk out, the show ended! I was relieved, but definitely wasted my time and money to go to this show. I was glad to remind myself that there is so much wonderful jazz out there that is more than plenty without Mr. Sanborn.

These two men make their saxophones make love to each other! From the moment they walk onto the stage until the final tune, I was bopping my head and tapping my feet to their melodic sounds. I also want to mention that the band that accompanied them were also terrific, they were a perfect compliment to Dave Koz and David Sanborn. Disappointing evening with David Sanborn. He was a half hour late beginning his concert and walked off the stage a couple of times, leaving the band to play on and on for a while. It seemed he may not have been feeling well or else something was just way off and awkward with him. He only played four songs with a lot of his band playing the majority. If he was under the weather I can understand, but the whole performance seemed weird. Not sure I'd go to any future concerts of his.

Was a great show in a beautiful venue although a little large for the number of concert goers. Have never seen his show so it was a great experience. He had an excellent group of musicians on keyboards, lead guitar, bass guitar, drums and percussion. They played well together and he allowed each of the members to shine with small and larger solos during the show. There were a few microphone technical issues early so did not hear much of his sax during first 3 songs. Made up for it later. Good storylines during show to understand his history and background. Could use a little more dynamic lighting. For example the bass guitarist did a great solo at the front of the stage but no spotlight on him so he was in a dark area.

What a fantastic night of smooth jazz, storytelling, showmanship and improvisation. Truly one of the greats in contemporary jazz, David Sanborn, delivered. This was my first time seeing Sanborn in 25 years and he never missed a step. Accompanied by a four-piece band this was a more organic telling of his music than the time back in 1989 where it was more of a light show extravaganza. Having heard of Sanborn through David Letterman he truly is a musicians musician paying it forward by letting his band mates shine throughout the night. David Sanbirn is truly a gracious and humble man having displayed his Hunan side by meeting his fans after the show to sign autographs. Truly a wonderful night. Thank you, David!

Incredible concert featuring these jazz greats. David Sanborn was amazing, as always, and Bob James was stellar as well. Steve Gadd was not featured very much, but displayed his usual wizardy behind the set. They played several songs from the first grammy award winning album, "Double Vision", as well as from the new album, "Quartet Humaine". The concert took place on the main stage outdoors under a large tent in the Nathan Phillips Square in downtown Toronto. They were expecting rain but it never came, and it got extremely hot inside the tent, and it was extremely humid. David Sanborn commented about it, saying "Here we are in the tropics of Toronto. I didn't know this was in the sun belt". Seating was a little tight, as the chairs were jammed up against each other, and seating was general admission. We sat center stage, 7th row. They should've made it more comfortable for everyone, especially the performers, by lifting the flaps on the tent and turning on some fans, which would've provided a breeze. The group did play some encores, which I expected would happen. Surprisingly, this was the first live tour David and Bob did together, and they admitted they were surprised at the huge success of their first album together. So they decided to do another album and do a tour, much to the delight of all their fans, including myself.

David Sanborn is not just an incredible saxophonist he is funny and entertaining. I enjoy his performance every time, no matter what state or venue. Jonathan Butler leaves everything on the stage. He plays that guitar and sings like an angel, however, his face tells the story as he performs, which is fantastic. Absolutely AMAZING! The bonus is the addition of his beautiful daughter Jodie that sings, travels, and writes with him now. I saw her perform with Jonathan in 2005 at Blue's Alley in Washington, DC and she has grown as an artist and young woman with ease and grace. I only wish Jonathan had added "Falling in Love with Jesus" to his song line-up for the Satin and Soul Tour. He did take us to church though and that was a blessing. Excellent show! You must experience Satin and Soul LIVE!

He is without question a talented and gifted musician; he is also a gracious and humble man, signing autographs and taking pictures after the show. My only criticisim is for American audiences who are so darn stiff. Music moves my soul, and while I was jumping and dancing in my seat, it appeared as if the rest of the crowd was asleep. The show was excellently done. He and his band were so enjoyable that my friend keep thanking me for bringing her to it. Beautiful night and beautiful music.

David Sanborn's sax is as mellow today as it was 30 years ago. He surrounded himself with musicians who are just as talented as he is, which makes for an amazing combination. I am so glad I blew off the ballet - it was worth it!
No other saxophonist like David Sandborn. His sound is classic and the band was amazing! Each musician so talented and they looked like they were having a blast. Very short concert but enjoyed it just the same.
This was my first time at the Empire theater. It was considerably smaller then I thougt and refreshment selection was very limited. The show was outstanding!! This was my first time seeing David Sanborn and I enjoyed it very much.
Awesome. David Sanborn can still rock the house. Been a fan for years and have seen him perform 3 times. Doesn't disappoint. Thank you for all these years of fabulous music!
David Sanborn, now 'my' age (69) turned in an excellent concert at the Akron Civic last weekend. His selection of songs included some a variety from the past and ended with my favorite, "Dream," which I've not heard him perform in public in many years.
Just always a great concert...he is engaged in both his music and the audience. Standing ovations throughout. Just never fails to amaze me. Thanks again DS....
The performances were really well done, and David Sanborn was great. Unfortunately, the Akron Civic Center was uncomfortably warm. People were fanning themselves.

The show was really good. Even the opening act was very good (I don't know the name of the group). David is getting a little older and I noticed he took a quite a few little breaks and let his band play a lot but He was still very enjoyable. I think however, that the ticket prices were a little high. Just my opinion.

I used to listen to David Sanborn in high school and college, 25 years ago, but with time, just fell away. When I saw the chance to see him at the beautiful Akron Civic Theater, I jumped on it. What a wonderful night! The crowd was full of true fans who were knowledgeable and helped make for a great atmosphere. The Akron Civic Theater is a true gem, and seeing one of the greatest saxophone players in history for the first time in over 20 years was outstanding and memorable.

David Sandborn is amazing. Simply a fantastic show. However, I would not see him again at this location. Not a very good venue. The city of Akron need to update this location.

he's 68 and can make that sax cry like a newborn he had a keyboardist who was playing bass pedals. A little disappointing as to really do justice to the jazz a real upright and or electric bassist would have been great.

Sorry to say, but the David Sanborn Concert at the Bergen PAC was a dissapointment. Maybe I was expecting more, but more never happened. Maybe others knew something that I didn't because the venue wasn't even half full. No comparsion to David KOZ. Oh well !!

Bergen PAC is a great small, intimate venue. The music was very nice, playing straight through for 1 1/2 hours. Of course Sanborn was terrific but Joey and Bobby were a great compliment.

from his previous albums of jazz/funk fusion with definite spunk- this past performance was not anything of what I remembered him as- the organ/piano player sounded like the ones you hear from the skaters rink- it had that quality sound to me- countless drum solos - IDK I was hoping to hear him play- more & better of what I know him as- I understand he is getting on in the yrs so I guess thats why he's playing a more-MELLOW type of sets- But I can say that I will never spend my hard earned money to see him anymore- I will sit home & listen to his music the way he used to be- FOR FREE!
