I would have to say, for the band to play in such a small place, it made it a lot more personal! The band had people come up on stage when they played one of my person favorite song, "sex and candy" Another thing that I have to add, some band when they recored their CD, they sound amazing on the CD, but when you see they live in concert, they sound nothing like their CD. That is what Marcy Playground is nothing like; they played and sounded just like when they put out their first CD back in 1995.

First of all....this event was held in the brand new "Showcase Live" new complex at the new Patriot Place in Foxboro, MA home of the sports teams NE Patriots and Revolution built by the media pioneers Robert and Jonathan Kraft. No details are left out, as clients and patrons can enjoy a wonderful dining experience and get the choice seats for the show. The place was spotless and immaculately clean attracting all styles of music and acts. The working team were all friendly and helpful. The group Nine Days, was not there but was replaced by an acoustic songwriter performer named Howard Jennings. His uptempo contrasting lyrical and rhythmic songs were a good start for the evenings music. I enjoyed his music, despite knowing nothing about him. Next up, Jimmies Chicken Shack, had everyone enjoying this tight band that has a world of talent and abilities. The work of both the showcased guitarists were equally matched with solid bass and drumming. This band was a tell it like it is and let's their music take care of itself. all the songs, arrangements , performance and trax were solid. On one song ,Jimmie commented that he messed up.....with this group's perfection no one noticed it. That's the wonder of live music. A special moment was when they invited, John from Marcy to see which gutiarist out of three, had the best licks. Jimmie.....was to not be outdown, as he won it "hands down"!! These guys powerful on their own, prepared everyone for Marcy Playground. Sound Crew had everything changed in about 15 minutes. This was amazing!! Marcy Playground featured a great trio of world class musicians, great songs, and a combination of their brand new songs blended in with their past hits. They are known for their hit "Sex And Candy" that lasted 15 weeks as a Billboard number 1. The groups new songs included, their soon to be new Canadian radio song "Star Baby" This was a very catchy upbeat selection with enjoyable tempo and lyrics. It was very apparent that these new songs, has shown their musical maturity. Great new songs, were Blackbird, Devil Woman and Good Times, that makes this a great new collection. Highlights included the audience/band interaction with Jimmie joining them dancing and singing. the ladies enjoyed dancing and being onstage with the band. Encore, finished up with the great Leonard Cohen song Hallelujah, with Jimmie and John leading their star vocals and heir band mates in the best rendition ever of this song! Wonderful show and worth any amount in paying admission.

Small venue, hot summer night and amazing music. Jon Wozniak and the band sounded great, not missing a beat and had the crowd rocking all night.

I have been to tons of concerts in my life time. Some really amazing ones, that i felt could never be topped. I did not realize that every concert i had been to was about to be blown away when i walked into the 8 Second saloon. I have loved Marcy Playground since their first album, but had never had the chance to see them live. From the 2 opening bands that performed very well to the incredible show Marcy playground put on this was the perfect show.

The fine line is a great place to see bands because you can get right up in the action or hang out on the balconny and watch from above. And there wings were delicious. As far as the opening band Taking Seconds goes they were a good opener for Marcy Playground. They were entertaining and there music was good too (even though I've never head of them.) Now for the greatest band on earth Marcy Playground was, for sweet! They sound just like on there albam and they have so much energy. I bought a 73$ ticket to watch form the balconny but instead I went down to the 13$ floor spot and watch the whole thing from there. And the band memders weren't shy before or after they got on stage I had a chance to talk to the singer/guitarist Jon and bass player Dillen and they gave me there autographs and they were really cool people. I had the best night of my life!!!!! Hands down.

I love MP! I think that they are an amazing live group. They are very entertaining. They are lively and mix it up. They played a lot of their old stuff. Played almost all of the 3 discs that I own. Had the crowd worked up and feeling it. And, The Ark is always a great place to see a band play because it's so small a venue that you are literally right on top of the band. After the show the band hung out with the crowd just talking and chatting. They then hung out across the street in one of the local Ann Arbor bars. It was cool meeting the members of the band as opposed to a large show where the crowd is so separated from the "stars." Only wish the band would have played longer, but I guess they put in a great performance especially considering the tickets were so affordable. Rock on MP. I hope to see you next time you come around.

This group puts on a good show. Fine musicians who do a great job. Unfortunately, it was much too loud in the venue to the point that there was distortion. It would have been nice to have been able to hear the words.

I've spent years waiting for these guys to come to my neck of the woods.... And they blew me away! They are obviously extremely talented musicians who have no trouble replicating their studio sound. I can't wait until they come back to my neck of the woods -- a true 90s grunge band that still puts out high quality music -- one of the most underrated bands of the 90s.

If you wanna see three guys jam like they mean it....... you got to check this band out !!!! To see a top act like MP in these small venues is a treat for any rock-n-roller. Woz and company give you your $$$$ worth each and every time. I'm from Cleveland and appreciate a show where you only pay 10 bucks to hear some hard driving tunes from a legendary group such as Marcy Playground. And oh, by the way, they have put out 4 or 5 CD's in the last ten or so years, and "Sex and Candy" isn't their only hit !!!! Get a C L U E !!!!!! Buy their stuff!!!!

This group is a favorite of mine anyway and they were great this night. The drummer was ill and not there so I was a little bummed at first but the other two guys put on an amazing show. Their talent is beyond belief. They connect with the audience and are humble. Great time, hope to see them again soon.

Marcy Playground was incredible. I was worried that they may not respect the small venue, but I was wrong to worry. They sounded great and my wife and I had a great time listening to music that we have enjoyed for years!

They were great! Better than anticipated! They played for a full 90 minutes and they seemed to have a really good time playing and entertaining. John "Woz" has AMAZING vocals and his lyrics are even better. He keeps the crowd engaged, tells stories behind the songs, and favors you with his rare smiles that make the crowd whoop. Afterwards, the band visited with the crowd. My only request would be for MORE!

Marcy Playground, as always, put on fantastic show. AFTER 5 TERRIBLE BANDS. Clearly the bar pre-booked and just tagged MP on the end. It was a pain waiting through some of the worst bands I've ever seen for a nice, but late, show.

After 11 years they came back to Detroit and we absolutely worth the wait. Unfortunatley it was a The Ritz in Warren which left me wishing I had never seen or been in the place. They also did not go until 12:45 because there were 5 or 6 opening bands (no further comment). We will be going to Marcy again Oct 22 at the Soaring Eagle Casino - AWESOME!

The Red Room is a GREAT intimate venue and Marcy Playground knows how to give a bomb show. John ended the show a cappella, which just proves how tight his vocal skills really are.

Nine Days and Marcy Playground both had a few hits and that's it ... the rest of the songs was not interesting at all and the only group with some fresh attitude was the supporting act called Jimmie's Chicken Shack at the beginning. Additionally, the sound in the BB King Blues Club was way to loud for the small crowd at the location.

The show was great... I had never been to Showcase Live before and it was a really laid back envirnment to have a couple of drinks and listen to the bands... Nine days didn't end up showing up, but the guy who opened was a really talented acoustic act. and it allowed Jimmies Chicken Shack to play longer and thats who I was really there to see. They put on one of the best shows I've ever been too... Marcy Playground was great, that sound just as good live as they do on there cd.. i would recommend this show to anyone!

i went to this show to see NINE DAYS. they weren't even there. as for jimmies chicken shack, they were hilarious but they usually are...i've seen them before back in the late 90's.... we left after 3 songs of marcy playground. couldn't understand what the singer was saying, maybe for the simple reason he drank too much. i wouldn't have wasted my money on this show for those 2 bands. i don't know what happened to nine days but i was very annoyed.

I went to this show specifically for Marcy Playground, but Jimmies Chicken Shack was also very entertaining. They played first, and played a nice variety of tunes from more hard core rocking to acoustic. Marcy Playground put on an awesome show as usual, playing a nice sampling from all of their albums. Both bands did a great job engaging the crowd, and as they've known each other for awhile had some hilarious moments on stage during the others performance. The venue was really nice. Drink prices weren't bad for a concert event (beers 5-6 bucks). Security was cool, not in your face like some venues.

First, the opening act..Howard Jennings. He was really good--great songs and I really enjoyed listening to his music. Nine Days wasn't there so I'm assuming that's why Jimmie's Chicken Shack were on stage for an hour and a half of mostly yelling and a mixture of instruments that blended together to make a loud noise. I must say, the guitarist was talented and there were some funny moments from Jimmie Haha..and I did like 3 of the songs (from the first album)..they were the least noisy of the bunch (excluding the song where only Jimmie sang while playing the guitar). It was tough to sit through an hour and a half of an opening act (when they weren't even the main act!!!!!). One person I was with fell asleep and the other was very annoyed. I was hoping it would end. As for Marcy Playground...they were incredible. I'm 22, so I was too young to see them when I was a kid (and I didn't get into them until about 6 years ago) so I never got to see them live and I didn't think I actually would..so this experience was one of the best of my life. Woz has the most amazing voice. He also has a great sense of humor. Their set list was packed with songs from the first album, which is my favorite, but also included some of their greatest songs of all time (Rock n Roll heroes, Wave Motion Gun , Punk Rock superstar, and Secret Squirrel), and a few songs from the new album. I'll never forget this show and I hope that Woz and the bunch come back and play next year or sooner! And btw, the venue was absolutely beautiful--it is probably the nicest place I have been to see a concert (slightly better than PPAC, which is also very comfortable but doesn't have tables, a bar, and a food menu).

Marcy Playground sounds as good live as they do recorded, and they rocked the house. They started off strong with Poppies and played a great set, with older songs mixed in nicely with a new ones that sounded fresh and easy to like. I enjoyed songs I had never heard before, like Thank You, Star Baby, and Memphis (in which the guitar sounded like a bluegrass fiddle). And of course, crowd-pleasers like Sex and Candy, Sherry Fraser, and Wave Motion Gun sounded great. Only thing I really missed was Vampires of New York (especially considering that they were playing in the city).

For a long-devoted Marcy fan like myself it was great to finally see them live. Good song selection with about half from the new album. I expected a bigger crowd but glad not to have to fight my way towards the stage. The sound quality was average for guitars. Cover of Cohen's "Hallelujah" was surprisingly very good. The obligatory "Sex and Candy" was uninspired and the low point which was just fine with me. I'd have to say the musicianship, specifically the drumming was the best part of the live experience. I'd love to see Marcy again and again. Honestly, Jimmie's Chicken Shack played a much better show and earned themselves a new fan last night.

The Starland Ballroom is a great place to see any type of show. That being said....Marcy Playground was a great show. Supported by other bands I have never heard of, but they all performed well. The Playground was sharp and professional. Good set list to please the crowd of all ages that attended. Well done guys and thanks.

From the opening band this promised to be a night of talent and some good, legimitate (old-school) alternative rock. I'd never heard Jimmie's Chicken Shack before but they definitely deserved their spot. Nine Days wins the prize for crowd interaction while Marcy Playground was rocking their new sound and staying relevant all these years after they started (anyone remember Zog Bogbean? They rocked Rebel Sodville to pieces).

John Wozniak was great! He is a natural performer and a great song writer. Dylan Keefe rocked the bass as usual, he is a great player and a nice person to talk to. Shlomi Lavie was jamming the drums. He is a solid drummer and very funny. Overall a great show, I would recommend anyone who just loves great music and having a good time go see Marcy Playground you will not be disappointed!
