Gov't Mule

Gov't Mule

Gov’t Mule stormed the jam band scene in 1994 with a bluesy blend of Southern rock. Guitarist Warren Haynes and bassist Allen Woody originally formed the band as a side project of the Allman Brothers Band. Gov’t Mule's music is defined by its noodling blues-rock jams and Parliament-funk freak-outs. The band’s concerts and tours bring to mind legendary 1960s acts like Cream, Grateful Dead, the Jimi Hendrix Experience and Little Feat.

it's been years since we attended a concert downtown. I brought our 5 yr old and 1 1/2 yr old to see Govt Mule. I was so excited to see the grassy areas to sit and put our blanket down and chairs and plenty of sidewalks to push the stroller around. The weather was great and the music was even better.

I took my whole family,my wife and two sons, ages 12 and 8 and we had an amazing time listening to both bands.Gov't Mule is one of my favorite bands, especially live, and this show did not disappoint.Warren Haynes is one of the best musician/songwriters out there and i go to see him as much as i can.The band is great,Matt Abts on drums(awesome)Danny Louis on keyboards/rhythm guitar(awesome) and the Bassist Jorgen Carlsson(awesome) make up one of the greatest rock bands on the road in America today in my humble opinion. The only thing we missed out on was getting the bands autographs after the show, but maybe we will luck out next time.It was my youngest son Matthews first show and he really enjoyed it but was sad about no autographs. The setlist was a perfect combination of older and newer songs and i would recommend this live show to anyone who enjoys live music.GO SEE THE MULE!!!!!!

The whole town of Buffalo was trampled over by one Ram and one MIGHTY MULE tonight. 1st I will start by saying that if you can down load this show, do it. If you can't get a hold of someone that can. This is a must hear show. I did see 5 or 6 tapers so hopefully somebody will post this very soon. They were on fire! The first set started with Bad Little Doggie and it only got better from there. The second set was so mind blowing that at one point the entire crowd was moving as one. We've all seen Warren have fun, but tonight he was he was there to PARTY. He couldn't get the smile off his face even when there were little problems and Farmer on his hands and knees trying to hold a pedal as Warren is using it, still the Mule kept right on raging! The encore was like a moment going back in time and your waking up to the Morning Dew. Over all I would say that Woody is looking and is smiling. Back in 03/04 it was called the Rebirth of the Mule, well, I think we have a 2nd rebirth, Jorgen plays with such feeling and emotion you can feel it in the way he plays. Also who ever said that Jackie is getting better with the boys is right on track. It would be easily for him to be a 5th member anytime. During the 1st set, Danny kept getting up from the keys and take his towel and get behind Jorgen and popping him on the ass. Jorgen didn't miss a beat, but would jump a little. Kind of funny to watch. I tired to keep track of the set list, but after the 1 set I kind of let go and let the spirit move me. Maybe somebody can help with it. People in VA, you are in for one Hell of a good show tomorrow night. I wish I could do it all over again tomorrow night. Peace Out

Warren and the boys just keep getting better. This show occurred on Jerry Garcia's birthday, and the band played Stella Blue; Sugaree; and closed the show with Morning Dew. A tenor sax player and a trumpeter joined in on a jazzy tune that featured a steady stream of 32nd notes from the bassist. That one tune had more low notes in it than all the bass notes played in every other song put together. Amazing. The guitarist from the opening act played a blues tune with Warren & the boys; a terrific interplay of different blues styles. Two surprising and extremely well done covers were "Don't Step On The Grass" (Steppenwolf), and "The Letter".

It was an an outdoor venue that was hot during the day and a bit of a rowdy crowd. However Gov't Mule always performs and is one of my favorite bands because you always get a good performance from Warren and the boys.

The show started off with a bang. The guys were on top of their game with the likes of Trane>St. Stephen Jam. Nothing Again and Larger than Life were special for me b/c I had never heard them live. Also the second set offered an amazing Brand New Angel>When The Levee Breaks>Brand New Angel that was mind blowing in so many ways. 32/20 Blues was also a barnburner. Overall, I had a great time and advise anyone who has never seen them live to do so immediately.

Atlanta was great!!! We've seen them at The Masquerade three times now and for us "seasoned" people, it is tough on our bodies. But the young 20 somethings showed up in droves and that's a good thing for any band. Jorgen seems like a great fit. He nailed it during Trane (almost sounded like he was channeling Mr. Woody's spirit). There was an older gentleman sitting with Farmer. Someone told us that he was Allen Woody's father. The covers were right on (Doin' It To Death, St. Stephen, When The Levee Breaks, 30/20, The Letter, I Can't Quit You Babe). But when they started the 2nd set with Lithium the crowd got dangerously excited (it came close to the intensity of a Claypool mosh pit). We felt so much older than the crowd we were in but we weren't about to leave. The other bands were a great match (Outformation, JJ Grey/Mofro, Hill Country Revue). The wife commented that the whole experience felt like a mini festival. For the price it was a great deal. Since ATL no longer has Music Midtown, we could use a festival (maybe a "Mountain Jam Of The South"). One obversation of mine: The band played with the energy of much younger men. Caution was completely abandoned and the intensity was out of this world. We've now had our Mule fix for the year. Life is good!!!

Great show last night in midtown Atlanta! This was my 3rd Mule show, and by far the best so far! Warren and the boys covered songs from Nirvana to Led Zep, as well as their own gems like Beautifully Broken and Blind Man in the Dark. The only thing missing was the absence of Soul Shine, but was fantanstic all the same. JJ Gray and Mofro was equally amazing, and the band has a new life and energy with the addition of Anthony on organ and Andrew on bass, both members of the Texas based band "Greyhounds". All and all a fantastic night of live music. Would highly recommend!

I waited until the end on a weeknight to hear Soulshine and they didn't play it but ended instead with a Rod Stewart song - yuck! This band is a great bunch of musicians but why would you not play Soulshine in lieu of Stay With Me? Please. At least end the show with another of the band's songs and not such a stupid song. Venue is neat for concerts but they needed more adults working it instead of distractible young people.

Excellent show. Jackie Greene opened and played a solid 50 minute set. It is good to see The Mule supporting this talented guitarist song writer. The sound system was perfect!!! The Mule were at the top of their game and with only 2 very short breaks. They jammed out for 2 hours and 45 minutes of a very well chosen set list. Highlights were Mad Man across the water Elton John and Lively yourself up by Bob Marley Jimmy Vivino did Lennon's Working class hero Jorgen played a masterful solo in No Need to Suffer Warren Smoked the whole night long as always.......

The Pinicle of the First Set (2 hours) was when Warren took the lead on Patchwork Quilt. With Jerry Garcia's passing 15 years ago, this tribute was a classic touch that reminds us that we are inspired by what is around us. While day turned to night, songs turned to jams which made the first two hours fly. When the band went to take a set break, they were pushed back on and advised the crowed that they will play through (as if they should play 1, three hour set). My guess is that due to city curfew, if they took a break, they wouldn't have time to play. Perhaps they should have taken a break because when they started up again, they couldn't find the vibe of the first two hours and the jams seemed forced and uninspired. Consequently after a long lame jam with Jackie Greene (opening), my buddy and I left on a tired note. I would say that the first 2 hours was easily a 5 star rating but the end was 3 stars...I would say that Gov't Mule is a great band and I have seen them many times before. I will see them again.

I have been seeing Gov't Mule since 1999 when Woody was still with us and this band never lets me down. Warren has become my "Jerry" in so many ways and it's awesome that they come to Buffalo every year because we don't have much time/money to travel further. We live in North East, Pa and Buffalo is the perfect stop. The only complaint I have is the venue needs more bathrooms and they do indeed have room to put them. Wonderful evening that ended with a nice surprise bang by getting to spend a few minutes talking to Warren))) We love him bunches as he's always so cordial & sweet......a fan friendly man which means alot to us.

We watched an awesome concert outside with Navy vessels and sailboats in the background, alongside a serene waterway, in beautiful weather. each year Gov't Mule returns to NYC for NYE. this year they cut back from 4 shows to 2 but returned to the familiar location Beacon Theatre, the scene of many triumphs by ead Mule guitarist Warren Haynes 'other' band, the Allman Brothers. A near-sold-out crowd braved to cold and whooped & hollered through two sets totalling almost three hours of familiar tunes plus a good number from the their new CD 'By A Thread'. And there were guests: For the 1st set Bill Evans & John Herrington lent a jazz feel to two Mule instrumentals 'Devil Likes It Slow' & 'Sco-Mule'. In the 2nd set Los Lobos' David Hildago jumped onstage for 'Feel Like Breaking Up Somebody's Home ' and a smoking version of Traffic's 'Dear Mr. Fantasy', then returned for the first encore. the final song of the night was a faithful version of Joni Mitchell's 'Woodstock'

Gov't Mule continues to prove it is more than a "jam band". By interspersing their own hits with a "theme" set (this year was Woodstock), they continue to demonstrate their attraction to both hardcore fans and music afficionados, as well as the casual visitor looking for a night of entertainment. Frontman Warren Haynes demonstrated once again why he is so highly esteemed professionally, and so appreciated by his audiences and fans. Lick after lick of glittering, soaring riffs almost leaves the listener at a loss for words. Special guest Dana Price from "Across the Universe" (I hope I spelled that right) provided the right touch and feel of Janis Joplin and Grace Slick during the Woodstock segment and was very pleasing on the eyes. My only criticism is Warren, interestingly enough, still needs work on his spoken audience interraction, including end of set

This was the 3rd new years show I have seen and it did not disapoint . I enjoyed the woodstock theme but I would have prefered more Mule tunes . Warren and the Mule can play anything and play it well . Especially when they played The Who's I'm free and listening to you . Then Warren started hitting an amp with his gituar . Not as hard as Pete but still very cool . Looking foward to the next Mule show .

The show was incredible, Warren Haynes ! ! ! nothing much more to say about him. It was great to see his guest, especially David Hildalgo from Los Lobos. Sound was fantastic as always at the Beacon ( the best venue around )

My first Mule concert, have been a fan for a long time, but never had the opportunity to attend one, especially on New Years Eve. The band was fantastic, the music sets were unbelieveable and the crowd was very cool. I plan on making Mule at the Beacon on NYE a tradition!!

This was a three set, five and a half hour marathon. The first set covered pretty standard Mule fare with a little foray into Jimi Hendrix 's"Third Stone from the Sun" and Led Zepplin's "Whole Lotta Love". Sets 2&3 were an homage to artists who performed at Woodstock (it being the 40th Anniversary). Warren Haynes proved himself well schooled in the guitar styles of the legends of the 1960's/70's. Guest Dana Fuchs brought the house down with her covers of Janice Joplin and Grace Slick. This show is absoultely worth buying when it becomes available!

I know Warren Haynes from The Allman Brothers and have heard for years how absolutely awesome his band Gov't Mule was... so it was with confidence I bought tickets to the New Years Eve show at The Beacon Theater. I had no idea. It was simply an amazing show. The first set was all originals, and everything I had hoped... Warren Haynes wailing on his guitar! The 2nd (mid-night) set was themed on Woodstock. Warren Haynes played Alvin Lee and Santana better then either one ever did!!! It was mind blowing! Female vocalist Dana Fuchs joined the band for several songs, sing an incredible and inspired "Piece Of My Heart" by Janis Joplin. I know where I am going for New Years if I am in NYC from now on!!!!

REALLY enjoy the show. The Beacon theater is such a classic setting, every seat is great, and it was a great time. There was no opener- the Mule played about a 2 hour set, took an intermission, and came back for a second set and 2 encores. As far as the set list, they really hit some of their greatest songs, as well as playing quite a few numbers from their new CD, "by a thread." The crowd was enthusiastic, and all in all, the best show I have seen the Mule at. got mule?

Gov't Mule always gives a superlative performance. Warren Haynes never ceases to amaze me with his passion and talent. There were some great guests including David Hidalgo from Los Lobos, and the guitarist from Steely Dan, John Herrington and sax player Bill Evans. The Mule always gives 100%. My only complaint goes out to the rude people sitting around me. The people in back of me engaged in nonstop talking and smoking cigarettes (and not the cool kind.) The two 6'4" guys in front of me stood throughout the entire show totally blocking our view, and refused to sit down even when asked nicely. The guys next to them engaged in talking throughout the whole show to each other and on their cell phones. I don't know what it is, but people seem to be getting ruder and more inconsiderate every year. Other than that, it was a great concert. The Mule pulled out some of my favorites including Rocking Horse, Thorazine Shuffle, Lay Your Burden Down, and some new ones off their current album, By A Thread. Broke Down On The Bravos really kicks butt. Matt Abts did an amazing drum solo, and Danny Louis was his usual amazing self. Any time the Mule is in town, you've got to see them!
