The Glitch Mob

The Glitch Mob

The Glitch Mob – the Los Angeles-based trio comprising Justin Boreta, Ed Ma, and Joshua Mayer – continues their forward movement into 2014 with their new album "Love Death Immortality." Boreta, edIT, and Ooah came together around 2006, passing through various members until settling on this core trio of musicians. Together, they combined their different skills and aesthetics into the compellingly collaged whole that has become one of the most beloved live electronic acts, and distinctive recording artists, working today.

The best concert I have ever been to. The whole spectacle with the lights, music, and performances of the band members was stunning. The sound was loud enough that the bass tickled my bones without being too loud that I couldn't hear myself think. Worth the three hour drive there from Chicago.

We had a group of 4 people go and one set stayed on the fringe of the dancing crowd while I went in the other pair into the fray. Crowd control was great about getting the jerks who were throwing punches out of the crowd. Elohim opened and she was awesome. We ve come away with a new song of hers we liked. Glitch Mob was amazing. Felt the bass all over, got right up near the stage. Stage set is awesome, big drums are visually interesting as well as cool sounding. The music just flows, gives you goosebumps and makes your hair stand on end(in the best of ways). My friend got to touch hands with Edit after the shows end. Event security was a bit overzealous, one of our group was not yet 21 so subsequently was not wearing a wristband. The group had gone out back to the official smoke area and as we re-entered the building, security tried to prevent the non-wristbanded guy in our group from re-entering. I had to show him all our tickets on my phone and he still went and got a manager to verify our story. It s a good thing I went with them, even though I don t smoke. That s the main reason for the 4 Star on the venue. Glitch Mob was more than awesome and we would absolutely do it again.

Lined up early, landed at the beginning of the line-ish.. band rolls up 20 minites later. so needless to say it was a while before they started to play. opening acts were mediocre, the first being an endless montstrosity and the second proving decent by the end.. but combined they filled an hour. band itself was much better, and played a really solid show with a 3 song encore to 1:15ish. id go again..

Front and center, the experience was impossible to forget. The bass was pumpin', the people were jumpin', and the bands absolutely killed it. Props to Ana Sia who played so loud one of her units fell of the table from the vibrations. Visuals were spectacular for all bands, too!

The Wait: The doors were an hour late to open, the first act started 30 minutes after that. When it was The Glitch Mob's turn to play the lights turned on and we had to wait another 30 minutes. By the time they started everyone was too tired from sitting stagnant for the last 3 hours. The Quality: The first few acts demonstrated why so many people hate electronic music; Generic, Repetitive, and Annoying. It all sounded like the cheap background music of last decades gangsta rap, lacked any danceable rhythm, and one of the DJs train wrecked. When the Glitch Mob actually started (Playing Daft Punk's "Derezzed") I thought the show was gonna be great. Boy, was i wrong. The rest of their set had zero energy and couldn't retain a proper flow. The Show: The effects were generic lasers and fog for the opening DJs and the light towers were well used by the glitch mob during their first couple songs, but i couldn't help getting the feeling that they were just following a script (since they had no energy at all). The acrobat was a nice touch, but the music was boring and that is what i went there for. Overall: The Glitch Mob started in SF and i thought they would come out swinging, instead they failed to impress even slightly. I left feeling betrayed and cheated.

GLITCH MOB WAS AWESOME don't get me wrong. But the first opener went on way too long and I started to get bored. The second opener was amazing but still I felt it was too long. Glitch Mob came ON at 11:30..weird b/c the concert "started" at 8 (they let us in at around 9:30. This displeases me b/c even at KIDCUDI they started on time (8) and KidCudi came on at a reasonable time (9) and played until 11. SO Glitch Mob give a little more to your fans and come on stage at 9:30/10.

ummm, the glitch mob. anything more to say? i have no idea how the "instruments" worked, but it was really cool to watch music actually being made live through the, i dunno what they are called, drum machines? aerial performer, too :) lights/set up was cool, bathroom line WAY TOO LONG. and no gum policy, forgot about that. (regency, you owe me $1!!!) an awkward, bewildered guy approached us after the show to help find his face, since it "melted during the show" ha

The Glitch Mob was AWESOME! Ana Sia and Comma were definitely rocked, and exceeded my expectations. My only issue was the amount of smoke - be it pot or cigarrettes. I know that events always have smokers, but I felt like I couldn't get away from it. I think I actually suffered a little contact high, it really sucked.

I have been to countless Glitch Mob shows over the years. This will be my last. The past two shows have been all ages and have nothing to do with the group that originally started it all. Completely rehearsed, studio quality with no heart. Shameful! This used to be a gritty, dirty sound that has been refined for the likes of disney listeners.

Glitch Mob is- hands down- the best electronic music performance you'll see. Unlike most electronic shows you'll see it's not a bunch of guys standing around spinning records or pretending to twiddle knobs on their laptop. They play live using customized drum pads. Great stage presence, great energy, and epic music.

I was upset I missed the first few songs of their set because of the long ass security check at the gate. But these guys put on a killer set. I love how they've transitioned from DJ's to incorporating real instruments into their live performance. These guys put Lemurs on the map and taking electronic music performance to a new level. Really nice guys as wells. They hung out afterwards and handed out CD's and took pics with fans. Can't wait to see them again.

Kept waiting for them to go hard or play something memorable but it never really came. Much better producers than performers. However, it could have been due to the fact that they were playing at a primarily Dubstep concert. Perhaps they felt like they needed to dumb their music down for that type of crowd.

The concert itself was great. One thing that was a little obnoxious was that the event was supposed to start at 7 pm, but we were standing in line outside waiting to be let in as late as 7:15 pm. The first forerunner band was pretty good and gave a nice show. The second one, titled The M Machine, was really horrible, in my opinion. The music wasn't any good, the light show was only based on this screen that had the letter M on it the whole time and half-way through their show, their computers crashed, which resulted in a 3-min pause. But Glitch Mob itself was amazing. Great show, visually VERY attractive, and amazing music. They even played some of their remixes that are not found on their albums. I would definitely go again.

My merry band of ragers have not had such an awesome experience for an edm show in a very long time. The performance art was awesome, the music intense and every single one of us wanted more! I honestly can say I will never miss a Glitch Mob show going forward having experienced one first hand. The absolute only downside to the event was the opening DJ. I love all types of music but every one of us where so disappointed prior to the main event. i found that was a feeling felt among the vast majority of the crowd since I was walking around talking and making new friends. So only thing I would have done differently was show up at 10 not 8 knowing what I know meow.

I've already been to quite a few concerts in my life, edm and otherwise, and this one is among the best. The glitch mob showed an outstanding performance that was loads of fun to see, listen and dance to. The venue (Hammerstein ballroom, NYC) was great and the sound system was extremely well engineered, producing loud music, which was pleasant to listen to and didn't hurt your ears like others tend to do. I missed chrome sparks, but the m machine was also awesome and put everybody in a good vibe before the glitch mob took the stage

This was the absolute BEST concert of my life, hands down. edIT, ooah, and Boreta absolutely KILLED IT and drove the crowd wild. Everything was absolutely perfect; the lights, fog, and sound quality & position were all aligned to create the most amazing experience I have ever seen with live music. I came into the concert with high hopes (come on, it's the Glitch Mob ffs!) but I left feeling absolutely baffled. The way they performed their live set is beyond description, and the Blades were beautiful and impressive. I stood in the direct middle of the pit and everyone around me was loving it as much as I was. We were all screaming, yelling, and jumping and pumping the entire time, and the Mob couldn't have been more perfect.

The Glitch Mob is such a unique group that I expected a great show. But first came Photek, who was a big surprise with is dubstep-like sound and simple beats. He got the crowd going and was interesting and fun to listen to. RJD2 came out with the best introduction I've ever seen. Then went to his turntables and boards and played a great set. Everything was live-mixed, which is hard to find these days without a little pre-mixing. He's really skilled and has a unique taste, which appeals to everyone. The Glitch Mob blew everyone away from the moment they stepped on stage. Their ominous introduction gave me goosebumps, then they went straight to their music. They are great performers. They get into their music and interact with the crowd. They know how to put on a show. Their acrobat was amazing too. She really added to the whole experience. All in all, I enjoyed this small club show just as much as a large festival. Autographs and a picture with the band was a great end to the show!

The Glitch Mob was just OK for me, but they create a fun party atmosphere. I liked to watch the people dance to the music in the GA area. The opening act was my fave, her name was Elohim

Although the space was a bit cramped for how many people there were, the overall experience I had was amazing!

Fillmore Silver Spring is a pretty intimate venue. There are good vantage points through out. The sound (especially the bass) resonate throughout the building. Glitch Mob played a great set, all be it short (started at 10 ended at 11:30). This was the first time I had been to a traditional drum and bass EDM concert.

Glitch Mob put on a fantastic show, definitely a lot of fun. Only main suggestion: BRING EAR PLUGS. The bass was cranked up pretty high, and as the night went on I had trouble distinguishing some tones from that. Disclaimer: I have some hearing issues anyway

Glitch Mob's first tour in 2 years to promote their new album, Love Death Immortality. Amazing vibes, amazing crowd, and most of all, amazing music. Glitch Mob had a really cool live stage setup, where they were producing their tracks live and in real-time. Giant lazerbeam-lookin drums were wicked. Afterwards Boreta, edIT, and Ooah all stayed and took pics with the fans which was really cool of them. I wished the show went on until 2am!

Great performance and an amazing stage setup. There were a few equipment issues which didn't cause disruption to the show thanks to good tech support.

These guys play everything live and the sound is incredible. They put the whole place in a trance and it was packed to the brim with like minded individuals. Highly recommended.

The venue was great, the headliner was awesome, the first 2 opening acts were ok, the bars were plentiful, the staff were friendly, and the night kicked ass. I would go back to The Electric Factory again.

I'm only rating this one star so people who are genuinely interested but are on the fence will read this review among the sea of good ones. Please treat this as a 5, with some caveats. The Good: The Glitch Mob's performance was great. The pulse pounding rhythms of their music are back-dropped with non-repetitive and visually stunning stage effects. Who ever designed that set up for them was brilliant as the LED drums and music video screens are the perfect catalyst for the audience. Their mix of old and new are full of crowd pleasers and their current album is crammed with an energy not unlike the previous one. If anything, this album is meant to invoke a sense of overpowered-ness. I felt like I could punch a goddamn dinosaur after, and It was 1 am. Once done, the Glitch Mob made sure the audience knew how appreciative they were of their support. Their sincerity drove home that this is a talented and original group that has finally come into their own and made it big. The Bad: Unfortunately for most EDM groups it is extremely difficult to take music that needs the precision and complexity of a machine and then translate that to a live stage performance. The Glitch Mob tries to avoid the "all you do is press space bar" problem by making certain instruments to their songs tied to the touchpads in front of them. It works to a degree, but after a while you start to notice that the more complex parts of songs require little to no input on their part. The big exception is those giant LED drums that evoke a modern tribal feel similar to the Blue Man Group. These touch pads are interesting in design, and make for quite a first impression, however it ruins the illusion that they are in control of the music rather than they music is in control of them. The background of a song will play with or without them, and at worst it looks like they are there to play "Simon-Says-DDR" . There is no room for free-styling in this system. However, that is not always a bad thing. The Glitch Mob has always focused on providing the "perfect" sound. Their songs are calculated masterpieces and as such free-styling may be an unwelcome prospect artistically. Does Hans Zimmer need to free-style? No, and neither do they. However, compared to a traditional rig where the audience can't see what input the performer is doing, one's imagination seems to take over and it feels a little more substantial. I don't need them to make each note live, I just need the illusion that they are in full control. Overall, the performance was a big explosion of methodical EDM. The group members are personable, and the crowds are always responsive. This is a must see. One last thing: If you haven't listened to the Glitch Mob before going to see them, you're experienced will be lessened. Their music is the kind that is "maybe okay" on the first listen, "pretty damn good" on the second, and "theme song to my life" on the third listen. The reason for this is your brain needs to learn to anticipate their unique way of adding soft drops, rhythm intricacies, and the subtle chords they use in their music. This is what makes the Glitch Mob stand out amongst other artists. It's like comparing wines: you need to prime your buds with an initial taste before taking a real sip. Otherwise you'll be flooded with too much of a "complex" taste that you won't really be able to register whether it's good or bad. Trust me, the Glitch Mob is worth taking the extra sip to understand.

UNREAL SHOW. opener penthouse penthouse was weak. 2 guys tweaking knobs and not really playing anything sensical. Ana Sia was a great dj who had her stuff together (although for the first half of her set a lot of personnel were checking connections to her table) I must say she brought the energy back into the room for an hour before TGM came out. The setup was awesome. Each member was running 4 Lemurs and some manner of synth device to the left of them, each with a set of V-drums. Awesome video screen in back of them and all of their drums were dressed in the video screen material as well, so they would change all in unison. It seemed like Josh was plagued w/ lemur problems though the middle of the show. His tech spent almost 4-5 songs monkeying around w/ it before it got 100% corrected, but they still didnt miss a bit. The sound was absolutely amazing. I would say this show was in my top 3 of my life. I would go see them again in a heartbeat.

Was quite impressed with the show. Only other time I've been to electric factory was for Bassnectar. Sound and light for bassnectar much better but I like how some of the time I could listen without earplugs. The highlight of the show is actually watching them play their iPads/drums. Wasn't sure if they we're fake playing but I kept hearing mess ups so I think they were actually playing. They chose the easier parts of their songs to play though-they could have been busier. Still this concert was awesome - nothing really like it out there plus their new album is pretty awesome.
