Conor Oberst

Conor Oberst

CONOR OBERST IN CONCERT:Indie rock posterboy Conor Oberst may have outgrown the wunderkind label of his early days, but maturity has done nothing to diminish the wonder in his music. Fans of Oberst's many projects — Bright Eyes,  Desaparecidos, the Mystic Valley Band — have found  much to love in his recent solo work,  and the prolific singer covers a bit of everything at his discography-spanning live shows. Whether he's performing stripped down arrangements with just a guitar or adding bombast to his compositions with backing musicians and electronics, Oberst delivers the same heartfelt, emotional  performances he's become known for. In support of the 2014 release of Upside Down Mountain, Oberst will embark on a series of highly anticipated US tour dates with special guest Dawes.

Conor Oberst is one of the most incredible singer and songwriters of our generation. His live shows have so much energy, emotion, and talent that you can t wait to see him play at the next show. I went to 2 shows last week in Nevada City and San Francisco. The Fillmore is one of the most historic venues. As you walk in and see all of the former concert posters on the walls, you realize the thousands of bands that have played there.

I was pleasantly surprised that Conor and company not only played tracks from Ruminations and Salutations, but that he also went deeper into his catalog and played some amazing Bright Eyes tracks, which were hugely complemented by the touring band this go round.

Great vibe Saturday night at the Fillmore. Conor went on pretty late which was fine because it let all of us getting even more liquored up. The show was great. Hope to see him again next year!

Opening act was Simone Felice, intense, raw. sensitive, intelligent, beautiful, funny, delicate, are just a few adjectives I can find to describe him and also his music. Great opening act! Conor played for almost 2 hours to a full house, I can describe the show with one word AWESOME, no need to get hyper intellectual in describing one of the most prolific song writers alive today. The show had a magically intimate feeling, the sound was superb and all the musical guest Conor had with him, did an amazing job accompanying him where ever he went. It was a little bit unclear if Conor improvised as he went, but it looked like hi might have a couple of times, not to any dismay of the audience. If I would raise one negative issue, it would lie with some audience members who so obviously do not have any tact or etiquette, when it comes to wanting to be heard during a quiet acoustic set, seriously irritating. Not to mention the amateur photographers who actually think a flash on a smart phone will make a better picture, it's does nothing besides annoy everyone in the audience and the artists on stage.

Conor Oberst is an extremely talented man-- and it's lovely to hear his music stripped down with little accessories added back-- different artists joining to sing back up or play guitar or piano or xylophone--- this was one of the best shows I've seen in a while-- and I go to a lot of shows...

I'm a big Bright Eyes fan, so of course couldn't pass this concert by. I was a little concerned about him being band-less, but almost all the songs were great with Conor on guitar or piano, and an occasional trumpet, bass, or piano accompaniment. Even my girlfriend, who's not a really big fan, was awed by what a great performance it was.

After seeing Conor perform some of his stuff solo on the East Coast, I was prepared for a full-length stripped down performance. It was all that. We had balcony seats that offered an amazing sound and a pretty good view. From The Big Picture to Milk Thistle Conor created a separate reality for me. I laughed out loud when he began playing Arienette, but was in tears by the end of the song. Same for Amy in The White Coat. Conor tore it up!!! I didnt expect Map Of The World, and my god Laura's vocals!!! Shell Games was a big surprise too.

Conor Oberst played a serious variety of songs, with many coming from albums made with Bright Eyes, and several from the Mystic Valley Band and Monsters of Folk.

Conor himself couldn't have been better! He played an amazing lineup of songs and sounded great. However, there was a group of what I can only assume were 13-15-year-olds who were yelling really annoying things the whole time and pissing the rest of us off. They should have been kicked out or something, almost ruined the show. Plus, there were some bad mic feedback issues that obviously shouldn't have been happening.

We bought tickets to see John Prine. We had never heard of Connor Oberst and considered arriving in time for John's performance. I'm glad we didn't. Although some of the lyrics were difficult to discern, Connor put on a good show. I'll search out some of his music and see if it has legs. The only thing I wish Connor had done was introduce his back up band. They were great. John Prine was his usual understated superb self.

Although he relied primarily on his first few records from the early 70's, John Prine still has that magic in his art. The audience was hushed as he told his heartbreaking and amusing tales of love, life and masturbation. His small but very talented band supported him through much of the concert until he and his guitar, really all he needs, did the rest. Conor Oberst was obviously in awe of his celebrated co-performer but this is one artist I have admired since the first Bright Eyes album through all of his other band projects and his solo work. It's impossible to minimize the complexity of his allusions and metaphors in his songs that go from tender to terror in a heartbeat. What a great combination and a perfect evening.

This is the third time in a year I've seen Dawes (twice on this Oberst tour) and while I'm enjoying seeing them in small venues with an audience who couldn't name even one of their songs, I wonder how long it will take for people to catch on to them or why they haven't already. Even considering how young they are...their resume is as accomplished as any band on the road right now. Their live show is a crisp, enthusiastic and genuine experience with a rotating setlist of songs from each of their first three albums combined with new songs. Their musicianship and songwriting is second to none. With all due respect to Conor Oberst, Dawes is the headliner on this tour.

Dawes was excellent as an opening act. Conor was perfect, he was funny, and played a number of my favorite songs. A nice mix of rockin out and sad songs by himself on stage. Almost intimate setting. Conor and Dawes were perfect, my only complaint was the crowd. They kept "wooping" and yelling out song requests, and I would have preferred to stand instead of sit but otherwise a perfect night. they more than delivered and I can not wait to go again.

Honestly I bought the ticket to see Jonathan Wilson and really enjoyed the set with his band. As expected most of the crowd was there to see Conor. Unfortunately some of Conor's fans were fairly rude during Jonathan's set and biased me against Conor's set. It was a bonus to see Jonathan playing with Conor. Conor is a dynamic performer but I'm not wild about his voice. Left before Connor finished his set.

Conor Oberst played with Dawes, like The Band a la Bob Dylan, being an excellent group on their own standing, is also Conor Oberst's performance ensemble. The show was pitch perfect flawless, always my top criteria. Sax, 2 trumpets, one switched to cornet - muted for Lua, the first encore, so a show stopper in more ways than one. Audience members in the high percentages know Bright Eyes lyrics by heart. Complex, poetic and often witty, satirical without cutting or snark, well without being too overly snarky. When the band stitched seamless a song I noticed no one singing along, the Dr. Watson side of my brain informed me it was a recent one. It's as good as any of his older favorites. Oberst never disappoints. He does much but not all the heavy lifting. Lead and bass guitarists' shreds simply blow the mind, the keyboardist adroitly shifts from skating rink Wurlitzer to hushed chimey peeps like a choir of trained tiny frogs. The show also featured the Lovell sisters (Rebecca and Megan of Larkin Poe - catch them if you can) whose voices, steel guitar and mandolin gave the show even more whistles and bells, yet not a wasted note or noise. All songs were good, several very very good. The standing crown thuroughly enjoyed it all. It wasn't hard to feel the love this crowd has for Conor and his music. I'll go to his shows anytime!

The intensity and depth of Conor Oberst mixed with Dawe's musicianship as a backup band and 1st as warmup band made this a very memorable show!!! They had a palpable chemistry onstage. This past Friday was my first Conor concert. Although I have been a fan for a while now, I am not a huge concert goer. I was excited to go have a night of real, raw music. The amount of talent that was on the stage that night, still has left a magical spot in my soul. It was some what of a healing experience. That is the great thing about his music, it is sad but it is beyond that. It is something that is unfiltered. Something that most people are too scared to write about but are all too familiar to our hearts. It strips down a barrier that everyone has put up, about appearing to be perfect all the time. His music allows a safe space to know everyone goes through things and it is okay to feel them and get them out.

The site for the show was unusual but it produced one of the best Conor Oberst concerts I have witnessed (and I have seen him solo and in his various bands at least 30 times going back to the Lifted tour). This is about as "solo" as Conor gets..The acoustics were awesome which produced crisp sounds and vocals. He performed "Ruminations" in its entirety followed by a brief intermission followed by 8 or so songs from his prior work...including The Big Picture which I had not heard in many moons. I think this solo tour is just about over, but I would highly recommend seeing him next time in Southern California.

I take any chance I can get to see the greatest songwriter of my generation play live and this was no exception. Hthis show completely eliminated and want I had to go to the governors ball seeing as it was a headlining show for the best artist governors ball had performing anyway. Knowing he had just played a set at governors ball I was worried he might not have the energy to put on a complete, full set, boy was I glad to be wrong! Conor's set was nothing short of spectacular straight down to the encore playing well into the morning hours. Couldn't be more pleased with this show I've been reliving it since it was over!
