The show overall was just amazing!! The Show that they put on is so unique i wouldn't even know where to explain, They just rocked! I was front row watching one of my favorite bands, a dream come true ") I took about 200 pictures, they couldn't have a picked a better venue, the Orbit Room is the best for upclose and personal concerts! I would definitely recommend DETHKLOK to any metal fan. Check out Brendon Small's other band GALAKTIKON they are outstanding too. <3

Mastodon is an amazingly talented band. They play their entire album note for note along with a video that sorta guides you through the story across all 7 songs. High on Fire has some cool stoner/doom metal songs, but I think the harsh growling vocals and some uptempo thrash songs make them much less interesting. Converge, I could hardly stand to listen to. They are not melodic at all, the vocals are completely unintelligible, and the singer prances around the stage the entire time and threatens to leave if the crowd gets too intense. Their set begins with the band walking off except for the guitar player, who plays the first song completely alone for about 2 minutes, leaving me wondering what the hell is going on, until the rest of the band returns and basically starts the song over again. At least they give out free stickers... Dethklok has some short cartoon clips at the beginning of their set and between some songs. Otherwise, they break for about 3 seconds between each one. It's like they never stop playing. They have cartoons during the songs, too, which add an epic and sometimes humorous aspect if you can make out the lyrics. My favorite is Murmaider, where they show about 30 different weapons as he lists them off during the song. Plus, topless mermaids! All the censoring from the show is gone, so you will hear some harsh language, as well as seeing some gore, nudity, and sex in cartoon form. It seems both bands draw about the same crowd, so the energy is great for both sets. Definitely see this, but try to show up a couple hours late.

They are truely masters of music, I love to see talented groups that know what they are doing. I'm so let down by so many bands that have no idea how to write a good song. I love how innovative they are. I met Brendon in Vegas such a cool character, very intelligent and hardworking artist.

You can't truly appreciate Dethklok if you don't see them live. They were great. Plain old quality adult metal humor that rocks. Mastodon was truly an experience for your metal head. The quality and depth of their music is phenomenal. If you appreciate good music, metal or otherwise, you have to see Mastodon.

This show was good, but I'm not really a metalhead. High on Fire was good, as well as what I went to see: DETHKLOK!!!! They played more from the Dethalbum than then the Dethalbum II, which was nice as I was shouting lyrics until I couldn't talk this morning. Converge and Mastodon were alright, I guess... not really my thing so don't take it wrong if they are yours. Converge said the would walk off-stage if these guys would stop fighting. They did. Some random guy offered my pot. I declined. It was near the end of the event so I suppose I could have "declined with extreme prejudice," but I had a buddy and four hours to drive to get back to Potsdam. The amplifiers are still ringing in my ears 12 hours post event, so if this is your first show - as it was mine - bring hearing protection (I was without). You don't have to use it, other people had it too so you won't look like a-fool. I also would have taken it out during Dethklok... whose performance was freakin' amazing. Enough old stuff we (about 2,000 I'd say) could shout along with it. - Karl

Hands down, one of the most entertaining shows I've ever been to. Had it not been for Converge sloppily playing through their entire set, this show would have been perfect. Brendan Small put together an excellent set with a few friends, who played flawlessly. Mastodon was a happy surprise, having gone in as rather indifferent toward them, they really won me over. High on fire was a solid act, and honestly would have been much better to have prime the crowd for Mastodon than Converge had been. Both of the co-headliners had spectacular visuals attached to their sets, and both played with a great deal of energy, and were generally rather exciting.

Dethklok puts on an amazing show! Mastodon wasn't quite a great fit for a co headliner with them, but it was still a great show. It was awesome to see so many different people out together to watch dethklok preform!

The show started with High on Fire, which wasn't so great in my opinion, but a good warm-up act to get you prepared for Converge. I hadn't heard them before, but I was definitely impressed by their sound and attitude. A fight broke out as soon as they started playing, and the singer told em that he would walk out if they didn't stop fighting (the guys were taken out by security and the show went on). Totally a cool dude (not a great singer in my opinion tho). Mastodon came up next, and they definitely impressed me. I had seen them before, but really didn't like them at all. This time seemed different, probably because they played their whole new album without a single break. I am definitely now going to start listening to Mastodon because of the great performance. Dethklok headlined, and it was everything I had hoped it would be. Great animation shows on the screen, great sound on all instruments/vocals, and a great set list. Overall, it was an AWESOME SHOW! Only reason I didn't give it 5 stars is because I couldn't mosh due to a preexisting injury, but the pits looked pretty sweet.

Most concerts I go to have one band that I am specifically interested in, with any other bands on the billing being either nice tack-ons or opportunities to arrive late. Rarely is there a billing where the openers are as big a deal to me as the headliners. This tour changed all that, with one of the most stacked playbills I've ever seen. All four of these bands are tops in their specific sub-genre of the overarching branch of heavy modern metal. High on Fire (stoner metal gods) and Converge (hardcore-inspired metal with loads of energy), while not usually arena-packing artists, could easily headline a club-tour for their own genre. Meanwhile, the headliners are Mastodon, one of the most innovative metal bands around, jumping between thrash, sludge, and prog through the course of their career; and Dethklok, which obviously needs no introduction as an amazing mix of metal parody and musically-excellent metal. All this for a ticket price less than $40 after convenience charge? That's an amazing deal in a world where most shows with a single artist of this level of talent and prestige would cost $40-60 alone.

This was one of the best shows I have ever been to. High on fire and Converge opened (Converge is horrible...), then Mastodon sort of set the standard for stage presence. Hearing the opening theme for Metalocalypse was one of the most high-energy points of any concert I have seen. Their setlist was perfect (a mix of season 1 and 2 songs). When they finally left the stage, the chant of "Fansong" was nearly deafening, then a few minutes later they came back and played the absolute best closing song in history. Absolutely brilliant!

I wasn't sure what I was getting into, seeing a cartoon band live, but the show was great! Dethklok videos were on the big screen behind the band, which took the attention off of the actual band playing and the fact that they don't look anything like the members in the cartoon... not to mention that there were only 3 members as opposed to the 5 on TV. The problem with seeing a "cartoon band" live is, since the charecters aren't real, you can't really stray from a scripted performance. There will be no solo's or on stage banter (which can also be a good thing). Either way, the band rocked. I heard all the songs that I wanted to hear. And the exclusive cartoons were funny and enjoyable. Good show!

Dethklok is one of the best metal band I've ever seen, which is kind of ironic seeing how their not really a band but they still were unbelieveable. Mastodon was a bit of a let down, really low energy not too particularly great but Dethklok got the crowd moving again when they came on. Also the comedy videos in the middle of the set were hilarious. Definitely worth it to see this show

Converge was terrible but that's to be expected since they suck. However, Mastodon played the entirety of Crack the Skye, all with awesome artwork, animation and film behind them. They were sick. Dethklok's show worked really well, with the clips from the show, as well as the concert specific clips they made. Gene Hoglan is a beast of a drummer, and Brendon shreds it up. Awesome show all around, but if you can skip the openers I'd recommend it. I only wish Dethklok had closed with Go Forth and Die, seems like it would have been the perfect ending.

high on fire wasn't good, converge was good for 2 songs, then all their songs were the same, mastadon was awesome, and dethklok was awesome what sucks is that it was on a school night so i had a curfew, so i only got to see one song of the band i came to see, dethklok and the 20 minutes in between each band didn't help, why can't they pick out their guitars while the other band is playing or stuff like that overall, should have cut it down a band or spent less time between bands

Saw Dethklok and Mastodon at the House of Blues in Boston MA on Wednesday 28 October 2009. This was the only original-scheduled date at the time plans were made to attend, but they also added a show the previous night as well. Understand first that even tho' I'm a headbanger from way back in the day, it was my middle son - who is into 21st Century Metal in many of its various forms - who mentioned that he wanted to see Mastodon the next time they came through New England, in order that it'd be a longer set than when he saw them at a past Mayhem Fest. None of his friends who would've been interested in attending were available, nor other friends who aren't into Mastodon's style of Metal. Personally, I like the song "Colony Of Birchmen" (which unfortunately was not performed at this show), so I agreed I'd go with him. Later we discovered "Dethklok" would also be "performing" (yeah, right, like I'm gonna pay to watch a cartoon)... and that they would actually be headlining! More on that later... High on Fire started of the show, and while their style is fairly simple, the bassist's use of fuzz and a 12-string bass negated the requisite second guitarist (they are a three-piece band). Converge was the second act; they recently released their newest album, and were promoting that. I usually don't sit and listen to 'core bands for relaxation; any type of 'core is meant to be experienced live. Much moshing occurred during this set. Mastodon... well, what can I say. These guys don't talk between songs... they just play the next one. And they played a lot. They did everything off "Crack The Skye," with old Rasputin black-and-white movie scenes played behind them. If you like Mastodon, you will be wise to catch them on this tour. Dethklok was an interesting proposition in the abstract. I had no idea what to expect. I hoped it wasn't like a Gorillas show where the real musicians play offstage to the cartoon on the screen (BTW, I don't like The Gorillas anyway). Then two weeks before the show I found out that former Zappa guitarist Mike Keneally was one of the touring musicians, and being a native SoCal dude who lived in San Diego when fellow San Diegan Keneally auditioned for the vacancy in Zappa's band after Steve Vai left, well, I had to check this out. I mean, I was going anyway for Mastodon, so this was icing on the cake. What I can say here is that the four-piece "group" executed highly technical playing flawlessly, and I was well impressed. All in all, this was must-see stuff.

Missed High on Fire, but Converge was tight. brutal and ferocious. Mastodon was great as usual, but I would have rather had a good mix of their material rather than all of Crack the Skye and just a couple from their other albums. Dethklok was tight and entertaining. Overall I'd definitely recommend.

It's been far too long since my last metal show, so I was certainly ready when the time to see Dethklok and Mastadon came around. I wasn't aware that there was going to be opening bands for this show. Had I known, I probably wouldn't have gotten to the show on time. The show opened with the less than original, High on Fire. Their music was generic at best and the lead singer had a bit of an Iggy Pop complex from the way he looked from my seat in the bleachers. Sadly, I actually found time for a nap during their set, so I may be a bit biased on this one. Next up was Converge. I'd actually heard of this band, but as their set unfolded I wished I hadn't heard them at all. As a friend of mine at the show mentioned, as the set went on, the similarities between the lead singer and that of a pterodactyl were uncanny. Again, nothing new here kids. As the stage was being set for Mastadon, the crowd was treated to a suprise cartoon of Dethklok with guest star Edie Riggs from the game Brutal Legend, which was set up to play at the show. After that, Mastadon came out to much deserved applause. I was suprised to see the similarities between a Mastadon show and that of Tool. The videos playing during their set mimicked that of the story telling present in a majority of the bands music. Frankly, Mastadon music is rather complex to play, so the band doesn't have the most active live show, so the videos were an interesting alternative to the band having to jump around on stage. Finally, Dethklok came out to much fanfare from the crowd. Probably the most interesting thing about Dethklok is the stark contrast between the actual muscians for the live tour and that of the cartoon characters that portray them on the Adult Swim cartoon show, Metalocalypse. Where the cartoons display a stereotypical "metal-ness" with long hair, combat boots, dark clothing and stage make-up, the actual muscians were rather stoic and uncharacteristically "metal". Luckily, this didn't detract for the music, which was bone-crunchingly brutal at every moment. Songs in their set with accompanied by music videos of the cartoon characters creating a sort of second concert going on in the background. This was good and bad in certain ways. It was bad in the fact that it distracted you from paying attention to the actual musicians, but good at the same time as, again, the band didn't have the most lively set due to their musics comlexity. When all was said and done, it was certainly one of the best metal shows I've ever been to. That's saying a lot, too. I've seen metal bands of the like of Slipknot, Slayer and Marilyn Manson, which all had amazingly brutal sets of their own. But, Dethklok isn't just and metal band, they're fake. This was a band created just as much as an homage to metal bands as they were a means of poking fun at the most paramount cliches of the genre. So, to see something that was spawned most likely as just a joke amongst friends turn into something so unapolegetically metal and genre defining is certainly worth the ticket price alone. 4/5 Stars: The only thing that takes away from this show are the less than stellar opening acts. Unless you know of these bands and/or like generic metal or hardcore, come to the show a couple hours late. Venue: The Armorey wasn't a bad venue. It's basically a basketball court for the local Albany Patroons, but it served the purpose well. I was warned by a friend that the acoustics in the Armorey were horrible, but as I was wearing earplugs nearly the entire time, this didn't annoy me. They also served alcohol, which never hurts at a metal show.

The Armory is far to echoy when you're sitting or standing close to the stage, but as you go fartherback it sounds better. Dethklok however, was astoundingly good. Definitly the best concert i've been to in years and years. Thankfully the next show i see will be Metallica so it will be able to stand up haha. But yea, the showmanship, the talent and the amazingly hilrious and brutal music videos playing behind them made my friends and I laugh so hard we had to stop singing along. Great show Brendon Small!

There were 4 bands that played total: High on Fire Converge Mastadon and Dethklok High on Fire and Converge sucked beyond belief. Mastadon was OK just not my style. Dethklok never disappoints. "High on Fire" and "Converge", while technically music on the premise that they used beats and rests, only flirted with coherence maybe twice and even that was probably due to chance. When a fight broke out in the mosh-pit and Converge threatened to walk off stage; no one protested. The droning, discordant smattering of sounds was as if the opening acts and Mastodon were competing for the title "band that sounds most like a dial-up modem." Avoid these groups at all costs, they do not deserve their share of the $25 ticket. A high school orchestra would have sounded better in comparison. Dethklok nearly made up for the openers poor performances. Dethklok had their act together, it sounded good (the sound system had a lot of clipping, which muffled out the highs) and it's too bad they were dragged down with the other bands. Hopefully on the next tour they ditch Mastodon, or get someone else to headline with.

I was not impressed with High on Fire, they were generic. Converge's guitar player, Kurt Ballou, was fantastic. He made Converge's set with some serious shredding that he makes look effortless. Mastadon, which I was really excited for, was super weak. Their new stuff is not impressive and they only played like two songs from their old albums which are why they have developed a solid fan base. Mastadon was disappointing. Dethklok!? Wow, I was super impressed and entertained at how tight they were and how good they actually sounded. I was pleasantly surprised and very entertained by their music and the humorous visuals on the screen behind them.

What can I say? It was just a really great show. The projector with all the art and imagery throughout Mastodon's play through of Crack The Skye was really interesting, and was cool to see it go to the art of their previous images in their encore pieces. Dethklok was not only a lot of fun from their music, but also the ridiculous violent scenes Metalocolypse is known for that were projected behind them. It was overwhelming everything going on, from the music, to the moshing, to the band onstage, to the projection behind them. Great show!

Last nights show was absolutly amazing. Although I missed High on Fire, Converge was a great band to start the night with. Once Mastodon started playing however, the night went from great to spectacular. Their music was so tight despite the layers they used on the new album. Their visuals were phenenal. One couldn't focus on just one it was a single package that had to be absorbed to truly grasp the greatness of this band. Dethklok took the stage an audience by storm , by couldn't be better than Mastodon could they? Sadly no, however they played the most complex musicbof the night and were perfectly in sync with the videos plqying behind them. Mr. Smalls is a genius.
