Liam Gallagher

Liam Gallagher

A one-man walking, talking hit machine, Liam Gallagher would have to possess one of the most recognisable voices in popular music history. As the front man for Oasis, he not only scaled the mountain but stopped for a lager when he reached the top. His clarion call sounds loud and clear throughout classics like ‘Live Forever’, ‘What’s The Story Morning Glory’, ‘Wonderwall’… do we need to go on? His debut solo album, so many years in the making, is called As You Were and it confirms that Liam is as much of a giant now as he ever was back in the heyday of Britpop. For his first ever headline shows in Australia with a crack band and a setlist that takes in classics old and new, this promises to be the best opportunity to lose your voice mid-singalong at this year’s festival.

If you are/were a fan of Oasis or The Verve, which were both phenomenal Britpop bands, seeing these two frontmen on the same stage on the same bill is quite a treat! Both played their band hits as well as some of their solo tracks. I couldn t stop singing and wish there was a 2nd night to see them again!

A true delight for fans of both their former bands and their solo material. Liam and his band sounded like perfection and Richard Ashcroft remains to be one of my personal favorite singers of all time. If you love The Verve and Oasis, do not miss!

Easily among the worst concerts I've seen. He played for under an hour - 12 songs or so straight through and then a quick exit. Very low energy from the band and he seemed like he hated to be there. Vocals were unpolished to a point of being somewhat raw. He could not even hit the range of material that he recently recorded. When is Noel coming back?

He performed for about 1 hour. 13 songs. The performance was mostly Oasis songs. Not very exciting or engaging.

13 songs and 45 minutes is a little light for a guy with the back catalogue like Liam. And Rebel is in the middle of nowhere with no transit, restaurants or bars.

Richard Ashcroft was great, Liam Gallagher played less than an hour and had his vocals so High that the rest of the band was almost impossible to hear, venue changed last minute, I paid $60 a ticket and they started selling tickets for $20 closer to the show, the fast lane access was such a mess, everything sucked about this.

They play an excellent selection of Oasis songs, alongside a few Liam songs. The songs sound better than on the records. A proper rock n roll show.

Liam recently said that, when he was in school, he would zone out, stare off into the clouds, and cut loud farts while sitting in class. Evidently, he subscribes to that same philosophy when performing on stage, because this show was the equivalent of a loud fart. Counting Richard Ashcroft's performance and the intermission in between sets, this entire show was under two hours, with Liam's set capping at just 55 minutes. Considering the back catalogue Liam has, there's no excuse for this. Furthermore, I could hardly refer to what he was doing as "singing." I don't think he sang on key a single time. Rather, he seemed to be just barfing out 12 songs that the fans expected to hear. As an Oasis fan for the last 10 years, I expected more, considering how long I waited to see him live. I do not recommend this to anyone, even the biggest Oasis fans.

Richard Ashcroft and Liam Gallagher started on time, sang their lungs out, kept the crowd interested without using any cheap gimmicks, and were kind to their fans. This show surpassed my expectations. Would absolutely go to see them again.

Pleasantly surprised by both. Richard had a great acoustic show and Liam sounded like the old days with his unique voicing. He was very good. Liam performed songs I did not expect like Morning Glory and Do Ya Know what i Mean (a Noel song- so I thought). Closed the show with an acoustic Live Forever. Marvelous.

Ashcroft was great, especially considering he has only his acoustic guitar for accompaniment. Gallagher's voice is excellent. His attitude stinks. Excuse me. I'm paying, mostly, to hear songs from Oasis, his creation that made history and his legacy that makes him a legend. Of course, I expect some new, solo stuff, but the "I'm moving on and so fuck the audience" bullshit is obnoxious. For 70 minutes, a nearly even and, thereby, extremely disproportionate split between Oasis (15 years, many albums, 100+ song catalog) and solo (a year's work) material shows poor form and arrogant disregard for the fans. You will notice the roaring v the hushed responses from the crowd for both periods. This was a far shorter and more rushed set than I expected and the mix should be 80-20 favoring Oasis catalog. Should be 90-100 minutes. Liam still exudes greatness and remains a magnetic presence, but the set is way too short in minites and on Oasis.

I love Liam, but was a little disappointed at the length of the show. Ashcroft played for about an hour, then a 20 minute break. Liam started at 9:30 and was done by 10:30. 13 songs in all, 7 Oasis tunes and 6 solo. Would've liked to seen a little more.

Great show, great venue! The balance of having Richard play an acoustic set to open and then transitioning to an in your face, fast pace amazing song after song performance by Liam mad for a great evening. Liam's new song off his debut solo album As You Were sounded great live and the highlight for me. The night went by way to fast!

Ashcroft didn t open the show well. He didn t have a band so his sound was just lacking. Underwhelmed by him and I am a fan. Liam played for an hour and that was all she wrote. I wish I had waited to buy the $20 tickets instead of $50 when they went on sale.

Richard Ashcroft did a 60 minute acoustic set which was good and at least he interacted with the crowd. Liam Gallagher looked positively disinterested and did not want to be there. 60 minute set, no interaction with the audience and was really a sing along oasis. Could have seen a tribute act and it would have been beteee, basically oasis karaoke!

He played for just over an hour like an 80 year old cabaret singer at a seaside bar. He strutted and swaggered like a 23 year old Liam with a bad attitude and a chip on his shoulder. He even barked at someone in the audience for God's sake! News, Liam. You're almost 50!!! He needs to write more of his songs, and shut his cake hole about his brother Noel not wanting to tour with Oasis anymore! He's a retread of his ol' self, which isn't appealing, because I'm no longer 23 anymore either, Wanka!

Show opener Richard Ashcroft, former singer of The Verve, performed an excellent acoustic set. His voice is still strong, engaged with the crowd who were loving him and he just gave a solid performance. After waiting a while for Liam to start, out he came, he looked like he has been smoking the crack pipe and looked like a homeless guy. Very pitchy sound, seemed angry and he was constantly signaling the stage hands to adjust the sound through his set. He only sang 13 songs, for just over an hour, and did not interact or talk with the crowd at all and then just walked off stage after the last song. I was stunned and said to my daughter "that was it"? Left us with a really weird feeling. I feel that if he does not pull it together, he is quickly heading for the Rock and Roll heaven, just does not seem to be in a good place, physically or mentally. So that coupled with the group of plastered British guys in the row right behind us who kept yelling and climbing on our chairs, it made for a really sub -par sad night out. We left feeling depressed like we had just left a funeral not a concert, sadly... :(

Cool venue and 1st part, but Liam Gallagher's concert was no good at all. Very disappointing. Not saying hello or goodbye before leaving too early, no interaction with the attendants... Wish I could get a refund for that terrible event

Good old Liam still can't help himself. No oncore and looked like he has been partying too hard and had not shaved in 2 weeks. Too bad he could not get it together to play Wonderwall and Champ. Supernova. Band's mix was not good - vocals too loud and band too soft. His voice was a little rough but got better as the night went on but it's hard to compete with Ashcroft who is a much better singer and overall performer.

OK, I get it. We're all older now. I'll start with Ashcroft. His acoustic set was solid. His voice is still crystal and he worked the crowd well. He played the hits I came to hear, and a few others that still resonated. It was a quality mellow show. Liam: I wish I had left off how I remembered him. Back in the day, he was an artist that fought through every set. That fight was what set him apart/made him a star. Unfortunately, for all his mean mugging and weird little mumblings to himself, he didn't seem to have the fight anymore. In retrospect, it took the 1, 2 punch of Liam and Noel to keep the crowd rocking in their heyday, so Liam's 1 punch just didn't deliver the knockout blow I had hoped for. I left feeling like I had seen a show, as opposed to feeling like I had been taken on a spectacular rock n' roll ride.

The Greek is a great venue: acoustics, bar service, outdoors, and an energetic crowd make it more than worthy. And like the crowd, to see The Verve's Richard Ashcroft and Oasis's Liam Gallagher was not to be missed. I've seen Oasis years ago at the Hollywood Bowl; incredible. Friday night, though, was a different beast. Ashcroft's acoustic set was effective: his presence, lyrics, and voice were sharp; could he have been complemented by some other musicians (and stronger lighting) a few songs in? Yes. True, another guitarist joined him near the end, but it was only a hint of what could've been memorable. At the very least, he stirred the crowd and set a positive tone. Liam then stormed the stage with musicians, lightshow, and, like Ashcroft, a mix of solo and former-band material. But the performance was more bombastic then connection with the Greek crowd. It was obvious that Liam was unhappy with the the technical aspects as much of his time was signalling to offstage that he was less than satisfied. Following his last song, he merely left the stage. Show over. And the tone fell flat, as did the show. A lot of promise, but the performance was lacking.

The opener, Richard Ashcroft, was fantastic. His set was an acoustic one and he poured his heart and soul into all of his numbers. His songs are still great 20 years later. Loved Bittersweet Symphony and The Drugs Don't Work. He performed for about 45 minutes, then a long break, and Liam Gallagher came on around 9:30pm. The music was louder than anything I had ever heard. I was sure I had lost about 50% of my hearing right there. I spent the rest of the concert plugging my ears with my fingers because I forgot to bring ear plugs - recommended for almost any big concerts, but especially this one. It was just unbearable really. I don't know how anyone survived this without permanent damage, not to mention you can't really enjoy it when your whole body is vibrating from the bass and drums. He did mainly Oasis songs which I love and they were brilliant but Liam Gallagher is terrible on stage. Hard to understand even for English people, barely coherent, barely aware that other people are present, no social skills to speak of. If you're considering his future performances, please bring earplugs! You will thank me later in life. The gig was also ruined by their use of strobe lighting which seemed a) completely inappropriate for this type of act, and b) totally destroyed the audience's eyesight.

Vocal range slipping a little. What he was good. But one hour even, with encores, for a headliner is unacceptable. Longtime fan of all things Oasis.

The acoustic show by Richard Ashcroft was superb. While only 45 minutes, it was the highlight of the night. Liam played one hour, with no encore. While he did play some Oasis songs, he was his normal, cocky self.
