I have to say I've seen down twice and this will be the last time. Phil was drunk and the sound was really messed up. Phil kept giving the sound guy dirty looks through most of the show.

weedeater really didnt do it for me but the crowd seemed to enjoy them.things definetely warmed up when the melvins got on stage, getting the moshpit rotating a little heavier, but when it came to down hitting the stage things really revved up to a franticic pace.phil anselmo did his usuall interacting with the crowd.early on he mentioned dimebag and got a roar from the crowd, form old to new the songs were loud, heavy and to the point.definitely worth checking out.

I'm no stranger to Down. This was my 9th Down show and they deliver every time. They seem to get better and better, when their already the best Southern Metal band of our time! I did the VIP and it's kick ass to watch sound check and meet the boys of Down. I went to Portland the next day to see them and it was another AMAZING night! They blow my sox off every time!!!!

the melvins set was rad! they were loud, clear (or as clear as the melvins are going to get), and they tore it up with 2 drummers. each drummer had his own matching kit, but what i thought was slick was that the drum kits were set up opposite of eachother (as in mirror image) so that when they would play a chop it looked like they would eventually be swatting eachother in the face with the drum sticks. Down was good. Rex was absent. Phil controlled the stage and got the crowd into it per usual. everyone was spot on. the only disapointment was the sound. Phil has a HUGE voice, but their sound tech wasn't doing him any justice that night. TURN THE MIC UP!!!!!!

In pretty much any other setting this show would have been really great, however the sound wasn't very good, it was cold, the beer was stale, and it was almost impossible to see the stage from anywhere other than the barracade. The bands were amazing as they usually are, i'm sure, however I will never go to the Showbox Sodo again.

I've seen DOWN 3 times now, the first time they were the opening act at the Heaven and Hell Tour 06 (BEST OPENING ACT PERIOD). Last night they turned the Commodore upside down last night. Phil Ansemlo made sure everybody from front to back were banging there heads and throwing there fists into the air. The guy has a voice and knows how to use it, looked like the old Pantera days! Pepper and Kirk both have such unique dynamic chemistry and thats a big reason on what sets Down apart from anyone else. They both ripped, exchanging riffs back and forth, dueling solos, slow heavy riffs, everything man, it was all bang on! It definately made up for the absents of REX! The show was energetic, crazy and LOUD from the second they came on to the time they ended. The opening acts were all great (all very talented musicians) especially Voivod! It was especially cool when Phil came out and played guest guitar for Danava and did guest vocals for Voivod! All in all it was a wicked show and i'll come from Vancouver Island anyday to see DOWN!

This was one of the best days ever!! Got to meet my man Phil and the rest of the band and I gotta say they treated everyone as if each and every one of us were a close friend of theirs. They are all down to earth and just amazing guys! The concert had great opening bands, definitely my kind of music. Down of course couldn't be better. I've never seen a bad show by Down. This band is top notch in my book and am looking forward to seeing tham again. I loved the venue, the size, architecture, ambiance, etc... I felt at home immediately. For those who enjoy this music, do not hesitate to go see them next time they are in town... I know I won't!

Honky opened the show. Good sound quality, drew some interest from the crowd. Originally HAARP was supposed to open and would have preferred them much more. Honky was good. Warbeast was next. Thrash is my favorite metal. Warbeast is a band without an identity. The lead singer and lead guitarist look like they are straight out of an 80's metal band. The lead singer's vocals don't go with the music. They are out of time and simply don't work. The band sounded very good, the singer, not so much so. Wouldn't see them again... Down played a great set and show. Music was clean, vocals were the best I've heard from Phil in years and he is about the best frontman in the business. Great performance. Why 4 out of 5? Warbeast sucked that much for me.....

Down the band played excellent, and Phil really engaged the crowd, making the show excellent. Supporting acts performed well, but their style of metal is not my thing - vocals w constant screaming/shouting/growling - gets old after 1 song. ** Starland is a nice venue but its beer prices are ridiculous ($7 for domestic and $8 for some imports), and that's from a bottle only - no draft - and that means only 12 ounces - not 16. *AND* the beer selection was weak (no Sam Adams, no Magic Hat, no Sierra Nevada, no Bass Ale). Starland is in Jersey, which has tons more microbrews available on the market than my home state - so what gives?

First time at the Starland Ballroom, the staff in the orange t shirts were informative and it was the little details i was more impressed with, like asking where the bathrooms were and escorting me to an area where i could enjoy a cigarette. Professional to say the least. As for the band's, haarp was a band i didn't know and was totally impressed how they performed. The raw energy they displayed for the crowd must have been appreciated as i was super impressed how they played their entire album at once without stopping. Warbeast was another great sounding energetic band that i truly enjoyed. The totally cool part of both these bands is after they performed, you had a chance to chat with them, high five them and get to know them at the booth. I purchased a CD from both these bands. As for Down, well what can you say that has not already been said. Fantastic band with that Louisiana flavor to it! Phil is a legend and has been on top of the world. Nice to see him perform in smaller venues. Phil can really get the crowd going as his energy to perform is legendary.

The band is still going strong and glad they're back out touring and releasing new material. Phil still kicks major ass and can get a crowd going like no other. Pat Bruders makes a great replacement for Rex, he fits in nicely with the rest of the guys. Probably one of the best shows I've ever been to.

the VIP experience was well worth the investment, very well organized, was informed of times and details of the event were conveyed via email 1 week prior, and as advertised was able to meet all members of the band, got an item autographed by all the members, and attended sound check in which Kirk and Pepper performed a song on the floor with the crowd! the venue was well designed big enough to hold a crowd without being crowded , enough bars and bartenders so wait time for a drink was not an issue and even a coat check so if you brought items to be signed or bought some and didn't want to get in the pit with them that was not an issue. I definitely plan on returning in November to see Lamb Of God, hatebreed, in flames, and Sylosis !!!

This show was fantastic, I saw Pantera back in the day during the "Way Beyond Driven" tour with Biohazard and Sepultura opening. This Down show blew me away, to see Phil Anselmo sit behind the stage amplifiers and watch (and jam) to all three opening acts was a definite attribute to his love of music. Mr Anselmo can definitely whip a crowd into a frenzy, the pit grew larger as the show progressed.

Phil is the ultimate front man backed by a supergroup of musicians. A real who's who of underground rock featuring members of Crowbar, EHG, COC, and Pantera. Phil commands the audience while the band pummels them with sludgy/stony riffs. Absolute masters of the craft and incredible showmen. Only wish they had more dates in NYC.

Phil was in rare form. Talking to the crowd after each song. And singing like he was having fun and enjoying it. The crowd was giving it up and singing to all the ifavorites. Played a few off there new album "WITCH TRIPPER." most of the songs were from Nola bringing the heavyness. That's what everyone likes and wants to hear. Very cool show definitely recommended.

this venue is always good to see your fave band. it's small enough where you can get really close to the stage. DOWN was absolutely phenomenal. During the performance, Phil Anselmo accidentaly walked into Pepper's guitar and sliced his head open on it. watch my video on youtube, you can actaully see the blood everywhere. That naturally did NOT stop him, and he proceeded with the show while bleeding from the head. They did all the key songs: Lifer, Ghosts Along the Mississippi, Bury Me in Smoke, Stone the Crow, Losing All, New Orleans is a Dying Whore, everything that you'd expect. Phil did the usual interaction with the crowd from the stage but kept it to a minimum, kinda. Rex was not there :( Go see the show and bring everyone you know. I had the best time. Oh, the moshpit was insane!

As if emerging out of silent disaster on a freight train of audio assault, Housecore artists Evil Army started the night out setting the bar high with a tidal wave of what I would describe as new age speed metal punk rock. Tip toeing around the dual drum set of the Melvins, Evil Army put their stamp on Atlanta making it well known that they are not just any mediocre opening act. They kicked our asses and we thanked them for it. Thanks to convenient parking on site, and an efficient and courteous security crew, we had no trouble catching this opening act at Center Stage Theatre. The facility was very clean and the staff was professional and helpful. I had no question that our safety and enjoyment was at the forefront of their minds. There isn't a bad seat in the house. No matter where you are, you are guaranteed a good view and great sound. After a short break the lights once again fell and Weedeater pushed their way to the front of the stage carrying a 10 ton hammer of metal godliness. A shock wave of hard driven bass lines and crushing drum explosions fired through us. The guitarist seemingly falls into the background visually but do not question this band's ability to captivate. They are a strong force that I recommend seeing to any fan. The Melvins showed up in the same consistent 'I know I am about to get rocked so hard I might not have enough left for the headliner' fashion that you can always expect from these guys. For as long as I can remember, I have never bought a ticket to see the Melvins, but somehow they have always been there, opening for another favorite band. And it is always the most welcome surprise because you never lose with the Melvins. With the addition of a second drummer, they brought a whole new onslaught to their display. Another amazing show for the Melvins. DO NOT miss these guys if you get a chance. Down took the stage with a confidence that no other band can claim. They own the stage and you know it. And who would question it with the collaborative powerhouse that they bring. Straight from New Orleans, Louisiana, they brought a fresh dose of metal in a way that only they can...NOLA style. They came back with a crushing encore and left us wanting more.

First of all, the sound at Pieres is awful. As a matter of fact, the place as a whole isn't that great. Secondly, Down brought a couple no name acts who weren't all that great as well. Third, DOWN was great as usual. Even with shitty sound, they still killed the show like normal. Pepper Keenan's guitar melted faces and Phil was full of energy. Exactly what I expected from the them. But up until them the event was below average.

I missed the 1st band (Haarp), the 2nd band (Warbeast) was okay but not great. Saint Vitus played a good set, I didn't recognize some of the newer songs but they played a few old classics (War is Our Destiny, Born Too Late, Dying Inside). Down was great. Phil Anselmo was funny as hell on stage, and they played a decent mix of old stuff and new stuff. The only reason I'm giving the show 4 stars instead of 5 is because they didn't play anything off the 3rd album.

This was the 4th time I've seen Down and they didn't disappoint. They played with haarp and Warbeast. All 3 bands were awesome. They got things rolling with Eyes Of The South and of course finished with Bury Me In Smoke, joined by the other bands. I wish they had played a longer set. Phil wasted a lot of time jibber jabbering about this and that. I've seen him do this with Pantera and Superjoint and other Down shows as well but he seemed particularly chatty last night haha. All in all a good show. I can't wait til they come back north again.

It always seems that when I need a pick me up & release of tension, DOWN always seem to be coming to town. Probably 1 of my favorite Metal bands. Not quite sure why, it's just what they bring. From the moment they started, there was an electricity in the air. When they announced they were recording for a live disc, it seemed to get more chaotic. The band seemed to be feeding off the huge amount of energy the crowd was giving off. If you are a metal fan, I would strongly recommend seeing this band at least once.

Phil still has it. Intense and In-charge. Pepper & and Kirk are the best together. Bower Power is unmatched. raw power and still a tight sound.

This was the second time I seen DOWN, this show was definetly the best one yet The band sounded great and Phil sounded incredible. Every song was BIG. Phil is the BEST front man out there, he works the crowd perfectly and everyone responds. My son went in to the pit, man, he got his ass kicked and loved every minute of it. Hopefully they will make a full circle and come back this year. Rock On

Great show. Came from Cleveland to see them (closest tour stop was Chicago for us). Band was awesome, Phil was in great form and was jealous of the Chicago HOB versus the Cleveland one.. much better design.

Yet again, Down blows away Chicago. I've seen them on a number of occasions but this was easily the most bruising set I've seen them do. Opening with Eyes of the South and beating up the crowd with more NOLA greats and new songs like The Misfortune Teller, they burned through the set and seemed to never stop til the encore. And they went back to the oldie but a goodie of a closer with Bury Me In Smoke sludging it's way to the end. I also attended the VIP. While seeing the band interact with people and really enjoying getting to finally meet Phil was altogether great, not sure if it's worth it for some. The band mercy they gave you was a cheapy poster and they rush your ass through the line pretty quick. Rightfully so I guess, i can see it getting out of hand. They performed Bridge of Sighs cover and Rehab during soundcheck so I guess for me it was worth it. But I'm a Phil fanboy. Tread carefully when purchasing is all I'm saying.

I saw Pantera for the first time when they were opening for Prong. They were playing a juice bar called Medusa's in Chicago. Word was already out on the street about Pantera. Felt kinda bad for Prong, after Pantera finished their set 3/4 of the crownd left. That was probably the last time they opened for anybody. Down carries on the torch quite well. Down and myself are into our 40's but still love a good night of music. Phil is one of the best frontmen the business has had. He delivers every single night. He had the entire crowd going nuts all night long. It's nice to see that Down appeals to the old school crowd and the younger generation. Mix of 17-45 yr. olds in the crowd. I did my time in the pit, left that for the youngsters. Not a bad seat in the place. Awesome night.

Great show from one of the best bands around. That being said, $45 is definitely way too much.

DOWN as a band was absolutely incredible. Phil is still very energetic and passionate about his craft. It is worth the time and money to see these guys live. There were no gimmicks (laser lights, pyro, etc.) just straight in your face rock and roll that did not disappoint. DOWN played for every bit of 2 hours of pure energy. Highly recommend this live show. I'll be waiting for them to come back.!!!

This venue is amazingly intimate, and to see a band like Down there with heavy metal legend Phil Anselmo I couldn't have had a better time. I was literally rubbing elbows with the all of the band mates as they walked through the crowd before and after their set.

Down was an incredible experience, I paid for the meet an greet and Down absolutely delivered. The guys were great, friendly and communicated with the fans. They openly hung out for the pre game and interacted with everyone who was willing and when it came time for the show they delivered. They sounded incredible. The overall experience was 5 stars easily. Great show!

This was the third time seeing Down and it was the best. The band was tight, sound was great, Phil's voice was spot on and the whole band was having a great time on stage and with the audience. For "Bury Me in Smoke" the two opening acts came on stage and jammed the tune switching instruments with Down and each other. It was more like having a "kegger" with a GREAT garage band playing, that was the atmosphere in the club.

For those of you who don't know, DOWN is one of the best live performing bands ever! An absolute blast! They sounded killer! I have seen them perform several times and there has never been a dull moment. As always, the crowd was great and the music was even better. Every rock and roll / metal head, should see this band at least once. DOWN is one of the most underrated bands of today's era. LONG LIVE PHILIP HANSEN ANSELMO!!!
