The Piano Guys

These classically-trained musicians have definitely found their groove, and it lies somewhere in between rock and Rachmaninoff. Jon Schmidt (piano), Steven Sharp Nelson (cello) Paul Anderson (production, videography) and Al Van Der Beek (production, songwriting), a.k.a.

I Took my 2 boys 13 and 11 years old along with my mother. I was super impressed which has always been a hard task, but I was blow away with the venue! And forget about the Piano Guys, they were simply AMAZING! I am so very happy my boys got to experience this. My youngest had his NYSSMA Piano compatition the very next day. Steve's words of encouragement were spot on.

I was really impress with these guys. My wife and I were moved by their music and their performance. We would go again in a heartbeat. My only issue was that I was not selected to play with Jon since I would had done a much better job than the guy they picked - lol :)

For anyone worried that these Guys who became famous through their Youtube videos aren't good in person, rest easy. These two are fine musicians who genuinely enjoy what they do. That passion is translated into their art and the result is amazing :) Highly recommended.

The Piano Guys, in short, were wonderful. I really enjoyed how they explained the technology and instruments they use for producing their music, and then played a song right after. A little banter in between was nice, as well. I am glad their songs choices were not restricted to just their Christmas album. They played songs from their other albums, and even integrated Christmas tunes into them. The highlight for me, though, was the videos that played during the music. (I wish the BSO would incorporate such videos or a montage while they play the symphonies.) It gives illustration and color to the music - very "Fantasia-esque." It just helps the audience to keep focus on the music. It was also amazing how in sync The Piano Guys were to the videos (from youtube, I guess) of them playing the exact same song. I would definitely see The Piano Guys again.

I love The Piano Guys (TPG)! I've loved their videos for some time. The energy they brought to the Comcast was unreal. Kind of like a stage full of Lindsey Sterlings. Beginning with their opening song, Let it Go, they were at full tilt through the whole concert. Steve Nelson has a great comedic flair. Jon Schmidt's fingers flew over the keyboard. There were several Christmas pieces (it was a Christmas concert, after all), ending with Silent Night with near-full crowd participation. The crowd went nuts for Beethoven's 5 Secrets to open the second half. My favorite was The Mission (Nella Fantasia)/How Great thou Art. Gorgeous! TPG have had over 500 million YouTube views, but they are SO much more. Great show, all around. And they were very gracious at the post-concert Meet & Greet.

An absolutely fantastic event. They didn't dissappoint. Every song you love and then some. Witty banter and great story telling by Jon and Steve. They tell a story with words, and make a memory with their music! Extremely talented and original. They are passionate and committed to the audience and the experience. I don't play an instrument and they inspire me to try! I will be back time and time again!

The Piano Guys were so entertaining for my husband and me. This was my Christmas gift, as I have been wanting to see this group for a long time. Watching them both brought tears to my eyes with the beauty of their music and laughter from my mouth with their comedic personalities--an awesome chemistry between the two, from a little nap time for Steven to Jon randomly breaking out into dance. Seeing them open and end the show with the four of them playing was a great treat. I love The Piano Guys and wish them overflowing blessings in their music journey.

I decided a year ago to loose 30 lbs. I've been listening to TPG channel on Pandora APP on my daily walks. TPG have accompanied me on literally thousands of miles this past year as I walk approx 7.5+ miles daily. I was thrilled to see TPG coming to The Chicago Theater - how could I not attend? The performance was amazing - love TPG evolving story and video accompaniment. Each piece was familiar, like an old friend. . . Fabulous talent and energy - HIGHLY recommend!

My 15 year old Son and I watched the Piano Guys in Concert at the Murat Theatre in Indianapolis this past Monday, and it was the most enjoyable concert I've seen in a long time. To make it even more special we found out about halfway into the show that their truck containing Jon's Piano, most of their gear, CD's and such was stranded 5 hours away. Knowing these guys put on such a fantastic show under so much diversity with unfamiliar and rented/borrowed gear made it even better. The Piano Guys are truly talented and dedicated performers! I strongly urge everyone to catch one of their shows if you can!

Drove from Beaumont for the show. Bought the tickets back in April as soon as I heard The Piano Guys were coming into Houston. They seem like such great guys! They have great personalities and I'm so glad to have been able to see that in person. Soo funny and soooo talented. Truly inspiring! They are true musical geniuses and I will definitely make every show they play in Houston from now on. Loved it! Also, I haven't been to a concert since my freshman year of high school, I am now 24. (So no concerts in almost 10 years). I'm really not a fan of live music, BUT The Piano Guys are a definite exception and I am in love with their music. The crowd diversity was amazing as well, loved to see so many different cultures and age groups! My fiancé and I came together, and his oldest boy loves The Piano Guys like we do and wanted to come too. Seeing all the children who came, we will definitely have to bring him next time.

These guys are unbelievably entertaining. They played for an hour, took a break than came back and played another hour. The cellist, Steven Sharp Nelson, stole the show. He was the comedian, the entertainer, while his partner, Jon Schmidt (pianist) was the straight guy. These guys did a bunch of cool stuff. Nelson explained all things He was able to do while playing his cello. He brought 3 (each having its own name) of his 248 cellos with him. He was able to record a snip it of his performance and repeat it while he played something else (it s called a loop). He showed how this worked while playing U2 s With or Without You . This was performed in the first segment. During the second half Nelson had this box that was used with a tube which was put in his mouth to create this real neat special effect. He used this playing the Jackson 5 s I Want You Back. It is played with a video, and it is a MUST SEE. Nelson also talked about the trails and tribulations of learning an instrument, especially when he had to practice while others are out playing. He expressed that it is so worth it because the end result is amazing. You ll feel like you are flying. He told the kids in the audience to never quit. After this he played Beethoven s 5 Secrets . A number of kids playing violin joined him. The next really cool thing they did : Schmidt asked the audience if anyone played jazz piano. If anyone did, that person was asked to join him on stage. It took about a minute before someone on the second or third level shouted out. Schmidt and Nelson expressed that the distance of this participant from the stage proved that he was not a plant. If they were to have a plant (someone they knew), that person would have been in the lower level. Schmidt had one rea

This was a wonderful performance by The Piano Guys. The live performance was excellent and they filled in some stories and background with the pieces. There was some amazing improv that wowed the audience. I brought my 10 year old son who has been learning to play the violin. He's loved TPG since Cello Wars came out years ago. The humor and stories made the performance a night to remember for him. I highly recommend the show and can't wait for them to come back. Next time I'll get more friends to join me. (The Venue was excellent too. Great sound. However I would not get the upper side seats since the bar-height stools did not look comfortable and the view was not ideal.)

I only gave 3 stars for the venue rating because it is a very old theatre with such a shallow rake to the house that short people like myself have to spend the concert bobbing back and forth to see around the heads of the people in front of us. As for the concert itself-- The Piano Guys put on a great show! Their unique blend of classical with modern music is wonderful, and their performance is energetic and funny\u2014 good clean fun for music lovers of all ages! Saw the Piano Guys this last Saturday evening in Boise. Such amazing musicians and entertainers. Not only love the music, but the witty piano vs cello banter between the two is entertaining. I brought my 9 year old daughter and she was enthralled for the whole show. It held her interest the whole time, in fact she didn't want it to end. Her favorite part was when Steven pretends to fall asleep playing the cello part of Pachelbel's Cannon. She was giggling uncontrollably. The tickets purchased here were for my mother and stepfather, I had tickets purchased elsewhere for row A, which included a meet and greet afterwards. My daughter and I got pictures with them and she was so starstruck it was adorable, she will remember it forever. We both will. Would love to go again next time they come to Boise.

We brought the whole family and could not have been any more impressed! The amalgamation of Classical, Modern music and a creative blend of The Piano Guys incredible talent created an afternoon that allowed us to appreciate the exemplary talent they bring to the Stage and screen. It is without a doubt great to see a musical performance where the theatrics provide a depth of appreciation for the music being performed not typical in any other genre. The Piano Guys (or is it the Cello guys? Tongue in Cheek) with only those two instruments created the atmosphere that drew in the crowd and not just entertained but also (taught?) how incredible the complexities of classical music are. The culmination of Bach, Beethoven and modern age music and theatrical themes provided depth not typical of any performance We have ever seen. We appreciated seeing the entire Piano Guys group perform at various times on stage during the performances. It's not common that a performance can span such a deep range of emotions, humorous to touching on those moments in life that forever change you as a parent. Every one of our children left there wanting to play the piano upside down, however we quickly squashed the notion of playing the Cello upside down...thank you Steve! ;) Bravo, if you can attend a Piano Guys performance it's truly one that should not be missed and is one of the best performances you will see regardless of age or creed! Thank you!

I finally got a chance to see The Piano Guys May 4 at the NJPAC--I really love their work! The show was very good--in view of the fact that instead of 4 performers there were only 2! It seems that Paul Anderson was not able to make the performance, and Al van der Beek appeared for just one song. While I truly hope and pray that Paul recovers, I was quite surprised that Jon Schmidt mentioned the absence about an hour into the show, explaining that they had to re-work their plans for the show to compensate for the missing performer. I did love their performance, but was expecting whole a lot more! Feeling a little cheated! I guess I would have preferred an announcement made before the show--even before May 4-- I purchased the tickets on line and was easy to reach. Was there any opportunity for ticket holders to opt out of the show and come back another time? I had planned to purchase tickets for the Aug 11 show in Atlantic City, but I'm now a little apprehensive. I really would love to experience the whole group's incredible talent! Having said the above, they are really an awesome group, fun for all ages and I still love them!!

The music was very different and entertaining. They played classical music with a modern twist. They added humor and style. It was a great evening -one we would readily repeat.

B;OWN AWAY by the PIANO GUYS' performance! We had anticipated a very entertaining show, but the innovative blend of piano & cello, combined with amazingly creative adaptations of classical & contemporary music, i.e. Bach, Pachelbel, Taylor Swift, etc., blissfully transported us into that place we affectionately call musical "LA LA LAND"! We will most definitely go see them again! :)

This is the second time I have seen The Piano Guys and their show gets better each time. I am always amazed how talented and clever they make their show. They are funny and very entertaining. This time someone from the audience supposedly volunteered to go up on stage and play the piano with Jon. The guy was great. The Paramount has excellent acoustics and even though I sat in the next to last row up top , the view was not obstructed.

I wasn't sure what to expect in a concert hall setting as opposed to their video settings, but I loved it. I hope they come to Cincinnati again, I will be there. If I had to choose only one event to attend, this would be the one. Too bad for my hubby who was recovering from surgery and wasn't able to go, but my sister loved it in his place.

Although the Piano Guys' musical performance was expected to be exceptional, the interaction with the audience, their humor, etc. just made the event that much better!

They always put on a superb show! This one also featured an improvised jazz session with a guest from the audience. He was super. The Piano Guys also invite local youth violinists to play with them on one selection. What a fantastic experience for these students. These guys are humorous, witty, great musicians and very humble. I can't wait until we go to our next concert. I can't get enough!

This was our second live TPG concert, and this one was even more amazing than the first! Jon and Steven are so engaging and entertaining-- not only with their music but with their story-telling , deep sense of faith in God and humanity, and wonderful senses of humor. The great variety within the show was wonderful. We especially appreciated the big screen above the stage that allowed us to see facial expressions and hands--even from a distance. We hope TPG will return to Cincinnati soon!

The show starts very ontime, on spot at 7:30pm, which I didn't see very often with concert. This is my third time attending a Piano Guys concert and this one is the best with sounds and audience. The theatre seat is a bit tight since they are long bench without arm rest or anything separate between seats so larger size people will automatically take up more space and smaller size people will get less space as everyone just kinda squeeze in at their seat number.

This was my first live performance with this group. As surmised, the musicality of the group was fabulous. What I didn't expect and found delightful was the chemistry between the members in the group and their interaction with the audience. Thus delivering a beyond expectations event that was well worth the purchase price of the ticket and the effort to attend.

Attending this event was a graduation gift for our daughter. Having watched many videos, and being delighted by the musicality and exuberance of the "Guys", I looked forward to going as well. This far exceeded anything I expected! WOW! This, truly, was the most fun I have EVER had at a concert. The technical proficiency, humor, and genuine love for their craft shines through the evening. Both Jon and Steve play with oblivious joy and abandon, as do Al and Paul when they come on stage. Four dorky dads? I think not....rather, four gifted musicians sharing their God-given talents with a world that desperately needs beauty and joy. We left feeling like family, not like concert-goers. I'd recommend you take the entire family to see these amazing "Guys"!! The Taft theatre was O.K., though it is an old building, and could use some updating. The acoustics were good - we were mid-balcony, and the range and clarity were fine.

I'd heard these guys on one of my Pandora stations, and really liked their covers of popular tunes, often with classical elements mixed in. Live, they were amazing. Great rapport with the audience, and very funny. Numerous standing ovations, and they got the audience involved, also used local talent from Blair School of Music and Nashville Pipes and Drums (I assume that's who they were). Also, there were video screen all around to show their artistry and some of their travels (they played ON the Great Wall of China, for example). Excellent artistry. It could have lasted 2 more hours and I'd have been even happier. I'd see them again in a minute.

You never know what to expect when you have YouTube sensations doing a live concert. They look great with the camera angles, sound effects, & lighting in their videos but will it translate into something concert worthy? The Piano Guys delivered WAY more than expected. They seemed to be even more familiar with the stage & working an audience than they were on performing for a camera. They were able to involve us a LOT more than we expected & really got the crowd on our feet a number of times. They are hilarious & kept us laughing the majority of the time. Yes a lot of their antics were targeted towards kids but they had good comedic timing & a clever self-deprecating Mormon-Dad humor. They kept it real to a degree that it transformed that stage to a living room performance. We were also very emotionally moved by the performance & cried twice. It s impressive if you can effectively span all of those emotions in a single concert. Our only regret was NOT taking our kids. We hope they come back to Cincinnati so we can take our kids. We d gladly see them again. Oh & by the way, they DID tactfully use a small bit of their more famous music videos in the background of their live playing. It made it more real & nostalgic. We really connected with them like that.
