Foals

British-based indie rock band Foals was originally formed by Jack Bevan and Yannis Philippakis. The duo then brought in Andrew Mears, Walter Gervers and Jimmy Smith as additional members. Following the release of their first single “Try This on Your Piano” in 2006, Mears left the group to focus on his other band, Youthmovies. The remaining members of the group continued, along with new recruit, Edwin Congreave.

Foals are one of the great live bands today along with Radiohead and My Morning Jacket. If you enjoy live music, see them when they're in your town. The only downside was that I still haven't heard '2 Trees' live yet. The Fox Theater is also one of the best venues on the planet with great places to stand, sit, and buy drinks. Kiev was a great find as well. Bear Hands were awful.

Touring in support of their 4th album, What Went Down, Foals put on an incredible, high energy performance. The show lasted for an hour and 30 minutes with 1 quick break prior to the final 2 songs, What Went Down and Two Steps Twice.

The sold out Foals show at Ponte Vedra Concert hall was truly a treat! What an amazing intimate venue with great acoustics. Foals were spot on... They put on an awesome live show! They played all my favorite songs except one so I was pretty happy with that. The venue had a bar handy so you didn't have to miss any of the live show and had plenty of bathroom stalls so no waiting in line... and they were clean to boot! Definitely worth the 1 1/2 hour drive!

Foals exceeded my expectations as all the musicians are really talented and play well together. Thumping drums, funky bass and amazing melodic guitar notes! And that voice! This band should not be missed. I can't believe the singer can play guitar like that, so fast, with only his thumbnail

The lead singer has an amazing presence and live delivery. The drummer hurtled them into energetic numbers, yet they managed to retain the subtlety and complexity or rhythms that make them special. If you like their sound, then definitely go see them live.

Foals brought the goods Friday at the Bowery from the opening number to the encore. A nice mix of new and old tunes, all melding together to make one hell of a sonic tapestry. Just when you thought the intensity couldn't get any stonger, they have the ability to take it up a notch. The crowd was more than ready, and as someone who has made a residency at the Bowery it was great to see an audience really jump. Hats off to you Foals, gracias for a great show.

Foals rocked the hell out of the hall. Amazing energy from both the band and the crowd. They played every song perfectly and improvised really naturally on stage. To whomever Yannis whacked in the face with his guitar, you're the luckiest girl alive.

Simply the best concert I've ever been to. Esben and the Witch, while somewhat interesting, did not prepare me for the aural onslaught that was Foals. I didn't think it was possible, but they sounded even better live than they do on their recordings, remarkable for a band with so many moving parts. No sloppiness at all, everything was tight and sounded incredible - big props to the Magic Stick and the sound guys for bringing it 100%

My friend and I got there a couple of hours earlier to try and be at the front of the pit, and let me tell you it was so worth it! Foals played a variety of their newer and older songs (from What Went Down to Olympic Airways), which were all amazing to hear and see live! Foals' hardcore energy instantly transmitted onto the pit as we all jumped and screamed along to each word and beat of the song! The only issue I had was that it wasn't long enough, because by the end of the concert I was ready to drive all the way to their next show to experience it all again (and let me tell you that in my years of concerts I have never felt that urge to see a band again so soon beside Foals)! It has definitely been my favorite concert this year has given me! I highly recommend!

Great show. Wish they had another hour in their set, with four albums I enjoy from start-to-finish, I was left wanting MORE. The engineering for the vocals and keyboard could have been better. The loudness drowned out a lot of detail that makes me like Foals. I shrugged it off as first night on tour kinks. Despite it all, they were great to see live and not at a festival!

Should have been a great combination of things. One of my favorite bands, one of my favorite venues and went with my other half. However, I've come to realize that over time, the same things happen with all bands. As a band puts out more and more material, their shows have to cover something from everything. This usually mean the singles, which are typically not my favorite songs. This is what happened with Foals at this show. A lot of their loud, heavier, fuzzier songs that they have made their singles in the last couple albums. They didn't play Blue Blood which is probably my favorite song and not much off of Total Life Forever. Even for playing the new stuff, I didn't really hear many of the new songs I like. In all, it was a good show, but just not the magic it was when TLF was released. Still, they're great. Go see them.

Foals was one of the worst live bands I've ever seen. I think they have a lot of talent in the recording studio but AirPlay is where their talent ends. There was no chemistry between band members, no energy in the crowd and the lead singer does really cheesy hand gestures during the performance. Paramount theater was way too large a venue for this band.

As usual the Foals put on an amazing show (5th time seeing them)... first time ever in Florida and seeing them in a 500 capacity venue was surreal... I've been to a lot of shows but this was by far one of the most entertaining. Foals discography is great and the songs sound fantastic live but what you also get with their live show is a boundless, raw energy. Yannis was a maniac: crowd surfing with his guitar and also jumping from the balcony into the crowd. I know he does this at every show but it still felt completely spontaneous and engaging. Rarely do you see a band work so hard and have so much fun.

The Fox seemed to be the perfect venue for the bands. I missed most of the opening act. But Cage the Elephant and the Foals were great. Both bands had band members jumping into the audience, which seems kind of rare nowadays. My only complaint would be the incessant strobe lights being used, which I did not feel was necessary for the songs.

This concert was by far the most fun I've had in a few years, no experience could ever rival this show! Cage the Elephant had amazing energy and passion present as usual, and Foals were psychedelic and great fun to watch onstage. I have been told by so many people that Foals are the best live band in the world right now, and every one of these people were not wrong. I have been to many festivals and seen a lot of bands play, but gig experience is taken to another level by this band. The front man, Yannis, is so involved with the crowd which makes it so much fun and at one point jumped off the second floor balcony. Such an epic performance by the entire band. Would 100% recommend for music lovers. Not so much for those wanting a chilled gig, because I did come out of it fairly bruised from breaking Yannis' fall when he jumped. But, it was so worth it. Amazing.

FOALS are my favorite band on Planet Earth. I thought they were headlining both nights in a row at Terminal5 NYC. We walked in during FOALS' opening song "PRELUDE", thank BabyJesus, because on Night #2 CAGE THE ELEPHANT was headlining. The show was still great during our minivaction to NYC, but I sure wish FOALS had headlined on Night #2 instead of Night #1. Oh well. Always a transcending set no matter how long it is.

I had been hoping they would visit CA and looked for 2 years until they appeared at the FOX in Oakland, CA. SO worth the wait! They're set just highlighted how many HIT songs they have garnered in their years on the charts. Their live performance did not disappoint. But, most exciting was the CROWDSURF by Matt Shultz. OMG - in my decades of concert going, I have never seen anyone get even close to what he did. The floor area is pretty deep at the FOX, but not only did he traverse the entire length of the floor, he STOOD UP!....and then did a HANDSTAND!! It was yoga-esque and totally Rock-and-Roll! I told my son he had seen music history. It was so electrifying, we thought the concert was over...and felt very bad for Foals, who were on next and had an intense job trying to follow CTE. Seriously, nothing compares!

Cage The Elephant put on a great energetic and entertaining show with great lighting effects. The Foals were just okay. Foals stage lighting glared too bright. Blinding floodlights were focused on the audience through their performance making it painful to see much less enjoy their show. I cannot possibly describe the experience any way other than to say their performance was purely transcendental. This is without a doubt my favorite band right now. They play and sing each note with an urgency that is palpable. Their music is invaluable but it is clearly meant to be heard live. Our most sophisticated recording devices are not capable of handling the energy and emotion that these artists actually possess. For the past ten years their paths have eerily mirrored mine in so many ways. I am so grateful to have this sacred connection to them and to their music. Indescribably grateful to know my heart is understood by complete strangers. Thank you Foals for putting on another epic show in Fort Lauderdale!!! If you have any doubt whether or not to see this band, please let me assure you, you NEED TO SEE THEM TO UNDERSTAND!!!!!! Being rather, shall we say OLDER than the crowd base for these bands, we weren't surprised to see the "youngun's" lined up for the GA section outside the FOX Theatre! Treated ourselves to Telegraph Room passes even though we had great seats in the upstairs balcony loge section. Cage The Elephant played what I assume is their norm slightly FRENETIC set list, very talented musicians and fun to watch...the lead singer seemed to channel Mick Jagger:)! We were there basically for Foals, but it was a great experience to hear what this young band had to offer. They get alot of play on OUR FAVORITE RADIO STATION, KRML on the Monterey Peninsula!!! Foals were mesmerizing and played a fantastic set and a few encore songs! I was personally a BIT disappointed that they didn't play until the curfew time of 11:30pm, they cut it about 20 minutes short of that, but otherwise a fantastic show, SO good we are scoping out the rest of Foals tour schedule to see if we can catch another show on this tour!

First time I've been impressed with the sound at the Fox\u2014past show's sound quality there has been lackluster to say the least. Foals made the room sound great, and they were in top form as always. Only complaint is I wish they'd play less Holy Fire. First 3 songs are great, but the rest is meh. More Total Life Forever, please. They didn't play Miami :( Still can't go wrong seeing Foals live. This was my 5th time and I'll do it again. However, looking forward to less holy fire.

One of the best shows ive ever been too, no joke. Matt Shultz knows how to put on a show, especially the end, jumping off into the crowd from a 15ft? tower. unbelievable.

Cage the Elephant has always been one of my favourite bands. I have always wanted to see them. I walked into the concert have absolutely no idea who foals was. Cage the Elephant played first, making it one of my all time favourite concerts. And honestly, I just really disliked foals. They did not come into par with Cage the Elephant and they just weren't as good of performers. Cage the Elephant was phenomenal, but I can't say the same about foals.

The title says it all. Each band J Roddy & The Business, Foals, and Cage the Elephant were all phenomenal. The crowd was electric. The music was mind-blowing. The only critique I have is that J Roddy's setlist, limited to 30 minutes, was too short. But really, the whole concert was too short. One of the best shows I've been to in years.

This was a co-headlining show. Cage the Elephant (who none of my friends had ever heard of) were the headliners on Tuesday and Foals were supposed to headline on Wednesday. That's how it was listed on the website and communicated to my friends who went to the show on Tuesday. Except that didn't happen. As a result we missed Foals entire set and didn't even go into the building. Terminal 5 is already my least favorite venue in NYC and this was just another strike against them. Highly unlikely I go to another show at T5.

I showed up at 7:00 pm when the doors opened, which was a mistake as the first act didn't take the stage until 8:00 pm in this modest, open-plan venue. The band line-up was eclectic to say the least. The openers, J Roddy Walston and the Business, were an old-style rock and roll band whose music would not have been out of place in any of the preceding five decades. Their set, whilst lacking originality, was executed with panache and mercifully over in around thirty minutes. I was concerned I would be stuck there until midnight, but, as luck would have it, Foals, the band I came to see, started their set at 9:00 pm and what a performance it was! They played a couple of songs from each of their earlier albums but the night belonged overwhelmingly to their most recent, ground-breaking work Holy Fire . Probably the best release of 2013, this album somewhat defies categorization as it transcends the Math-Rock of their earlier work. They concluded with a seminal performance of their magnum opus, Inhaler . I was a bit surprised that Cage the Elephant were the headliners, as I'd never heard of them prior to buying the ticket. Judging by the crowd reaction to their emergence at around 10:45 pm, they had a lot of local support from this predominantly student crowd. They come across as bordering on Art-Rock, not a genre that particularly appeals to me, and after around five songs, I bade my farewell and left. I expect the next time I want to see Foals, the tickets will probably be astronomically expensive for this nascent stadium act.

After seeing them last summer at lollapalooza, needed to see them again. They absolutely killed it at Terminal 5. The highlight being either the slow version of Blue Blood, Providence, or Closing with Inhaler when the crowd went absolutely nuts. Can not wait to see this band again.

I've been to this venue a few times before and it's always a great experience. I was a bit annoyed that Foals showed up before Cage the Elephant (The tickets said Foals was headlining), but I was there the whole time so it didn't affect me. J Roddy was chill, and Foals and Cage the Elephant both had the crowd going crazy.

Seeing J Roddy and the Biz was amazing as a warm up, although sitting through Foals was painful; it was worth the wait for Cage, who I have seen 6 times in the last 3 years, they just get better every time, a true live band, they killed it!

All three bands were great, in totally different ways. J Roddy is a hoot; Foals is super cool and professional with a wide range of styles; Cage is popular and energetic. Best band was Foals.

I've wanted to see Cage the Elephant since I watched them live on a Lollapalooza feed a few years back. They were raw and edgy and I loved every second of the broadcast. I missed them at the Governor's Ball last summer and when they were announced at Terminal 5, I jumped on the chance to see them. I was not disappointed in their showmanship, style, and ability to get the audience pumped up. J. Roddy and the Business were a great opener. Personally, if this show had longer J. Roddy and CtE sets, I would have given this 5 stars but my problem is that Foals interrupted my flow and enjoyment of the show. People actually like Foals? I just don't understand why. Nor do I understand why they were on this bill. Anyway, thanks for show, I'll just pretend they didn't perform.

Once again the Foals blew me away. I've seen them live 3times and once again the show was profound in so many ways. The energy and stamina displayed by the band was unreal. All I could ask for was a double set!!! Foals, Foals, Foals!!!
