One of the best concerts I've ever seen in my life! I traveled from Brazil only to see Mr. Dale and it was worth every penny spent! Priceless!... Also The Canyon is a very nice place!

Dick Dale is an American Icon and after seeing him live I know why! What a great treat to see him up close and personal. He was terrific and seem to be having the time of his live. How often do you get to enjoy someone that is a genius and loves every minute of it! If you have the opportunity to catch him, don't even think about it. God Bless Dick Dale!

I have seen many famous/crucial/talented artists live up-close in concerts from: Kiss to Bob Dylan to newer music artists like Leftover crack, NOFX, Bad religion, Sonic youth, Meat Puppets, Unknown Hinson and Hank III to name a few. Bottom Line is the show I went to was 5 star materiel, great song selections, with excellent playing/shredding, the band came together for a sound that leaves you with hyper-alert sonic ear after. High Energy through and through, the show was inspirational, Dick Dale came on stage around 11:00pm and played for a good period of hours still ripping it up jumping up to his sons drum set to join in playing guitar/bass with drumsticks adding blues harmonica also. If this isn't seeing a legend live up to his name and still play fresh I don't know what could be. He, his wife and openers Laramie Dean etc. ,stayed after for a signing till after 2:00am. Not one penny wasted and the Openers were great to see as well.Great Band Members. I Noticed an ad for his St.Pete show after being aware of missing one in Atlanta, so I Drove to St.Pete from north of Atlanta, the night before, to see this, Very much worth it.

This was my first time to see Dick Dale so I can't compare this show to his others. I was so glad I went. Very entertaining and fun. I hope I have his enegy at 74 expecially considering all that he has been through. In my opinon this is a must see... and Jimmy Dale is a damn good drummer. Can't remember the bass players name. I talked to him after the show. Very friendly with a lot of stage energy and very talented.

Everything went well with this event UNTIL after the concert during the meet & greet and signing. I brought my favorite Dick Dale CD with me {I have several} to have signed as I have done for years and years of concerts. (I'm 55 years old and have signed CD & LP's all the way back to Harry James, Maynard Ferguson...) I stood in line, waited my turn, and when I go to the front $10.00 (Ten Dollars) was demanded of me to get the Dick Dale signature on my CD. This is the first time in all these years that $money$ was a prerequisite to getting a simple signature from the artist. I had spent $54.00 already on the ticket and CD and now needed another $10.00 for a signature - I said "No, Thank You Anyway" and left. This is bad greedy karma and he lost a long & loyal fan.

Having been to Claptons Crossroads Guitar Festival twice with 30 or more of the greatest I have to say Dick Dale should get invited to the next one. Total Sensory Assault as he moved through one song and the next. Not as much conversation as his last show in Jersey at Asbury Lanes and unfortunately he didn't get out his trumpet and other tools, but a great show. How is this guy not in the Rock N Roll Hall of Fame? Virtually invented his own version of surf guitar and his handskills even at 74 are still fantastic. Don't miss him if he gets back to NJ.

Moving, rocking show by living legend. 74 and amazing for any age. He played the surf rock, rockbilly, honky tonk sang a little, he can't sing a lick and it don't matter it was all to get the crowd in call and response fun So glad to have gone. Smile on my face i could not wipe off from the great music.

Go to see Dick Dale. $25.00 for a ticket is a steal to see him. He has all the energy of a much younger man. He sounds great and plays great. Laramie Dean, his opening action is ok but not up to Dick's level. I would have been happy to pay just to see Dale. The local opening acts were not needed.

What can be said to describe the sheer power of DD's delivery and technique..astounding. If you play (or just listen to) the electric guitar in any capacity you should see Dick Dale live. "Wall of sound"? Yes, if the wall was 50 feet tall and collapsing on your head.....the sonic equivalent of wiping out in maxing Waimea Bay surf....the only other bands I have seen with this level of volume and power are The Ramones (RIP) and Sonic Youth, but DD was the great grand daddy of them all and is still the King. Even non rock devotees are amazed at what DD does. This guy INVENTED modern electric rock guitar and the amps to boot and still tears it up. He routinely blows amps and breaks the heaviest gauge strings on stage, and uses NO effects. He plays over 100 nights a year at age 74. Talk about a guitar god.....Go and Be Amazed....

My wife and I were excited to introduce our teenage grandson who is a surfer to Dick Dale and great acoustic music. We read the performance information and listened to the NPR interview of Dick Dale and were excited to attend. We even went to the Coach House early and had dinner (never eat at the Coach House - the grilled chicken caesar salad was soaked in water). The pre-show at 8:00 p.m. was best with Garcia, however he put his young son, who was exhausted, on stage to play drums for the entire set, poor kid, it was sad. Dick Dale and son came on stage around 9:00 and talked until 10:00 without playing. At 10:30 we had heard two pieces. Cheap tickets, cheap show, we walked out.

I drove from Tucson to Phoenix to see Dick Dale at the Rhythm Room, and boy was it worth it. There is no way to describe what this guy does on the guitar, you have to see and hear it. I recommend Sonic II earplugs as they saved my ears, and I was stunned to see a 71 year old man fighting cancer play for 2 hours without losing his breath. He also soloed on the trumpet, the drums, the bass and played harmonica. I have seen Jimi Hendrix live and sat on the stage with Clapton jamming with The Who, and this guy looses nothing in comparison. You may only have a short time to see him, I highly recommend you do. He also stayed afterwards and autographed CD's, he was a real gentleman and quite humble!

I have wanted to see this man for a very long time. I was expecting a real good show but was absolutely BLOWN away! I have see dozens and dozens of concerts over the last 30 years and by far this was one of, if not THE best concert I've seen. Not only is this man a legend and multi talented, he is a humble, appreciative man. He stayed after the show for autographs and pictures with fans and constantly gave props to his two band mates. The drummer and bass player were top notch as well. They all meshed together perfectly. I can't say enough about my experience. I will never miss a show of his again. 72 years old and this man is phenominal. He IS a true legend and in my opinion, one of the best guitar players EVER!!!

In 1962 I graduated from high school in Southern California, and then I was like the kid in American Graffiti who actually got on the plane and went back East to college. During that first long, cold winter in Boston, Dick Dale's ultimate surf music was a welcome and badly needed lifeline to home. I've never forgotten that -- but I somehow had never seen him in a live performance until 8-28-09 at the Birchmere in the DC area (where I have lived and practiced law since I "grew up"). It was inspiring to see (and hear) that Dick Dale's guitar work is still overflowing with virtuosity and attitude; he can still "make your ears bleed" just like in the days when he first showed the world what an electric guitar could do. More than that, it was inspiring to learn about the medical hell he has overcome in the past two years, and to see that the torch of virtuosity is being passed to his son Jimmy (obviously named for Jim Monsour, Dick Dale's Lebanese-American father, producer, mentor and general kicker-in-the-butt). It was interesting to learn that Dale is also a virtuoso on the drums, harmonica and piano, and is at home in styles ranging from flamenco to boogie-woogie to country, blues and rag. But I keep coming back to the music itself. I only wish there had been more of it (and a little less talk). My favorites were the immortal Miserlou and the dreamy-sweet "Taco Wagon," both of which somehow reminded me of a long-ago time when everything about California was the best there was. A memorable surprise -- at least to me -- was Dale's signature surf-guitar rendition of "Amazing Grace" -- dedicated to "all our boys who aren't home yet." All of his artistic forebears (from Gene Krupa to Hank Williams) and all of his artistic descendants (from Jimi Hendrix to Metallica) were evident in an amazing final set. I hope Dick Dale keeps his health and his attitude for years to come. For one thing, all the Southern California high school classes from the Balboa Beach/Rendezvous Ballroom era are going to have their 50th reunions in the next few years. Somebody should organize a Dick Dale festival in the Anaheim ballpark, and make blocks of tickets available to reunion classes of '60 through '63 all over the Southland (as it used to be called). I'll bet it would sell out, and Dick Dale's favorite charities could make a bundle if he so chose. I would love to see us all celebrate the time when we -- like the Viennese who were alive when a wild man named Ludwig was earning his street cred -- were lucky enough to be present at a musical revolution. Dick Dale -- I love you, man!!

Not all of the event experience was his responsibility. The doors did not open until after 8:00 pm, and standing outside for over an hour got annoying when you get in line at 6:45, expecting to go in at the planned 7:00 time! There were 2 bands before Dick Dale appeared. The second band being his son's personal gig. I came to hear the ole' traditional surf music, and neither of the lead in bands came close to his style. It was an all out hard rock, and most of us came to hear the surf music genre.... By the time he came on, it was late, and he wasn't exactly warmed up-or pumped up to hear the old traditional stuff. We left, because it was late and the early alarm for work the next morning was all I heard calling us! No surf music whatsoever...

It was GREAT to see Dick Dale can still put on exciting show. The Canyon is great place to see him, especially when it's not crowded. It's nice to be able to sit down and enjoy. The Steak Dinner was very good; bu I can't say the same about the vegetable lasagna. Dick Dale is old, so are we, but our 17 year old Grandson is part of the next generation to enjoy being a "Dick Head" and even bought a shrt to prove it.

A great evening of entertainment. The Andrea Belestra Trio started the evening with original material that was captivating and reminiscent of Jeff Beck's Blow by Blow. He was followed by a forgettable second band but fortunately Dick Dale and his unlimited energy saved the evening. At 76, Dale has more energy and is a better entertainer than those half his age. The chemistry he had with his band was solid and it was obvious that they were having fun and enjoyed playing together.

Great concert. He spent a lot more time playing guitar instead of telling corny stories and doing gimmicky things. The new format is what we all come to see - great guitar playing. I didn't give 5 stars because he stayed in the dressing room and came on stage way late. The venue was really crowded, too. Not his fault but being a sardine will cost you a star. I've seen Dick quite a few times and this was one of his better shows.

At the intimate venue the Culture Room in Ft. Lauderdale (4/20), Dick Dale at almost 76 gave a tour de force performance on the staccato, vibrato power of the left-handed Fender surf guitar. At almost 65myself and a native Californian, many of the crowd revered him as the "Godfather of Surf Punk Rock." to me it was just a great master keeping the music alive (Dick is one the prime influences on Jeff Beck) He had an excellent young bass player and drummer which reaLLY kept the backbeat hot. He torched thru a bunch of songs including of course "Let's Go Trippin" and various versions of the classic, Miserilu. Spontaneous, great crowd interaction. We could have done w/o two of the opening bands who were horrible. But thrash/crash is the norm at this venue. ROCK ON DIC K!

This is the second time I've seen Dick Dale in concert. This time around, 15 years later, he was actually better than before, if that is possible. If you've never seen him, do yourself a favor and go see his show. Absolutely phenomenal and unique. This guy is a legend and it's amazing to see a 75 year old move and perform like a 40 year old. Even standing in the back I could easily see the fantastic guitar work. Dick plays like no one else and it was a real treat to see him live do what no one else can. Lots of great songs, but also a lot of telling health stories like an old man. Yes, so you new wife saved you life and the doctors are dim, but we're here for the music! Some cool old stories too but play more please, you're a legend. This man is such a gentleman, he is hard to dis, and the music makes up for everything. I've wanted to see this man for years. My partner is am accomplished guitar player, so we are huge into music, especially original performers with a resume like Sales. We happened near Big Bear on a month long road trip, which I found out months before our departure. I purchased tickets right away and am so glad. Dick Dale played so damn loud, I could hardly believe this guy was 81. 81 and he rocked harder than most acts I've seen in my lifetime. Self-titled Guitar Legend Dick Dale was truly AWESOME at the Culture Room in Ft. Lauderdale. His show was tight, loud and really amazing. He played many of his favorites, played the harmonica and trumpet (that's right-trumpet) at concert level. This guy is an American Classic-one of a kind. He is a national treasure and font of the history of popular culture in America. If you love American masters of their craft-originators of their genres-you MUST see him. The warmups were Onto-Gato and Riot Act. Riot Act is a duo who really cook-I highly recommend.

Dick Dale at 78 yrs old is still as fabulous as ever. The CAVE sucks....paid for seats that were misrepresented as being front row behind the pit and wound up being board hard seats on the wall. Wound up sitting in the seats we thought we'd bought but they were general, first come, first serve. Opening act was horrible and lasted way TOO LONG. Acoustics were horrible for her. Again, Dick Dale is awesome, entertaining, funny, and would pay to see him anytime, just some where else.

He told stories, played every instrument available to him and even uncovered the piano in the corner to play that. Amazing guitar player and overall musician. The venue is great! Very intimate.

We had the best time at this concert! It was a lot of fun. It was more like a jam session..he's very passionate about his music. He's funny and charming. A true icon.

I am 70 and Dick Dale was a big part of my teenage music. I have always loved instrumental music (Ventures, Jerry and the Harmonicats, etc.) I was surprised at his overall talent. Plays the harmonica, piano, drums in addition to the lead guitar. The one main draw back was the massive volume of the sound. It was beyond deafening. The venue was small which accentuated the noise. The crowd was a very "senior" one and many of us had our fingers or tissue in our ears. Probably would not go again because of the very loud music.

We took my parents to see Dick Dale as a Father's Day gift mainly because he was one of the few acts around from my dad's era. I had no idea what a great show we were going to see. Dick started his set with one instrumental after another (which is what I expected) and not much chit chat in between. His playing was amazing and his song selection more diverse than I expected so that alone would have made a great show. But then the stories started to flow between songs and he started to sing too, including a great rendition of "Fever" and a damn good Johnny Cash impersonation. Then, as if that wasn't enough, he moved to the drums for a song, then kept his drumsticks and "helped" the bassist (who was great too!) by playing the bass with his sticks. Crazy! In short, everyone had a great time and Dick is a slightly silly (in a good way), super-talented musician and performer. His performance is even more impressive given his health problems. He says he keeps going with a glass of aloe vera juice morning and night. I think I'm going to go buy some of that!

Dick Dale is still the King of Surf guitar. If only they had let him play without the opening acts! My rating is not for Dick Dale but mostly the opening acts and the Venue itself. The place is dirty, the Staff are self absorbed and at least one of the security people was so drunk I could have set his breath on fire from 3 feet out. My recommendation is go see Dick Dale but never, ever go in this venue.

We have seen dozens of Dick Dale concerts and even a few at the Canyon Club. This was one of his best shows in a very long time. Glad to see him with his energy levels back up and worth every penny of the ticket price. We know he's been very ill so it was especially great to see him giving such great guitar again! Now the Canyon Club ... pretty expensive for a mediocre dinner. Lasagna was not warm, steak was not very good, wedge lettuce was "extra" but good. People sat down in empty seats in front of us and didn't pay extra for dinner but had the same seats!

This was the first time my friend and I had ever seen the surf-rock pioneer Dick Dale. We were a bit apprehensive at first, because of Dale's age (78), but any worries we may have had were put to rest within the first song. The man has lost nothing, talent and performance-wise. He still shreds, and he impressed not just us but everyone who sat around us in the intimate Canyon Club. Dale delivered a rousing, energetic, thoroughly excellent show, all the while staying humble, and making it quite clear that he knew how lucky he was to still be around. Seeing the man who popularized instrumental surf rock--well before The Beach Boys came along--and do it so well, and with such passion, was really something to remember. My friend and I left the concert with our ears buzzing and our expectations having been far surpassed. It was a perfect night.

This man is a work of God. His unbridled passion erupts from the electric/aquatic/soulful waves and melodies that are emitted as his prowess and fingers fuse with the neck and body of his almighty guitar. Peace be to this and man all who care...

I'll keep my eyes wide open for Dick Dale's return to the Culture Room. Hopefully it'll happen real soon. I brought 4 of my dearest friends for this experience & they still had not stopped raving about Dick Dale's spectacular performance. Next time, I'll bring even more friends for this eye opening experience. Happy day of your birth Dick Dale! Sincerely, seamonkey1

The Father of heavy metal guitar was unreal. My only problem with the show was that it was too short.
