Pat Travers did a great job as always, but the venue was a bit steril. He began on time (8:00) and finished his set at the assigned minute, 9:00. One hour allowed him to only play a couple of newer songs and about four of his standards. He seemed very compliant to the casino contract. I have seen him in several other venues and he has gone easily for two and a half hours. It wasn't until aftwards when I realized that casino shows likely put a strict limit on playing time in order to get people back out to the floor to lose money gambling. We also paid a bit extra to sit second row center, but the sound seemed to be mixed to the center of the room so the sound was not that good. Rick Derringer was a bit too PBS for me. It seemed a bit kitch.

John Doe

Even a nasty cold couldn't keep the great John Doe from turning out a wonderful show at the High Dive in Seattle's Fremont neighborhood. Doe humbly told the capacity crowd that he was pretty sick, should have canceled and if anyone wanted their money back that the club would probably oblige. No one gave two sh*ts about the occasional voice-cracking -- it only added to the real-time enjoyment of the live performance. A few sips of whiskey and an offstage nose-blow had the crowd with him all the way. It was fantastic to see John Doe in an intimate venue all by himself. He was friendly and chatty with the crowd, keeping his signature charm with him throughout his set and three encore songs. Delightful.

From the time they hit the stage to the time the left, the show was tight, well paced, and full of fan favorites. The crowd sang along and shouted their love (one guy was extra exuberant) the Ray. I tried to let Joey know we loved him, too, but I'm not sure he heard me. The sound was well done, as always. The fans were friendly and loved talking about how many times and where they had seen FW before. My last time was Fort Worth, TX in 1994.

Bobby Goldsboro

In a truly wonderful show by an incredible artist, Bobby Goldsboro and his three-man band thoroughly entertained the Anderson Theatre crowd with about an hour and a half of fine music and humor. Goldsboro performed his biggest hit songs to perfection, with every lyric being easily heard in this fine venue. Among the many highlights were his classics "Honey," "With Pen in Hand" and "I'm a Drifter." The show featured a video sampling of his "Swamp Critters of Lost Lagoon" children's television show and another slideshow of his beautiful oil paintings. Goldsboro also displayed his charming sense of humor with funny stories of frog impressions and his numerous accidents. Afterward, he stayed in the lobby to meet with fans, signing autographs and posing for photos until everyone left happy.
