This was the best concert that I have ever been to bar none. The enchanting voices of Lisa Gerrard and Brendan Perry captivate me and they sound amazing even though they are 30 years into their musical careers with the band. The array of sounds, languages and cultures that Dead Can Dance master is truly amazing. Introducing the audience to new instruments and sounds make Dead Can Dance a truly unique band.

I saw Dead Can Dance in 2005 in Boston with a friend. They are remarkably unforgettable and extremely talented. My husband and I have listened to DCD for years. Seeing them live captivates you and brings you into another world. Her voice, his lyrics, and their music, they are exceptional! My husband and I flew to NYC to see them August 29,2012. He was swept away, and I expected nothing less than their outstanding performance once again. We did see Mr. Perry when he came to the Paradise in Boston last year and next month we will off to London to see them again. They're music is freeing to your soul! Thank You for all your hard work !!!!!! :) We truly appreciate both of you! .

All I have to say is that the band was in top form and while I didn't know the songs, they were very powerful. Lisa Gerrard's singing is spine tingling.

Since they haven't played a show in just about 10 years it would've taken a lot to make it not worth seeing. Lisa Gerrard was fantastic, as was Brandon Perry. The accompanying drummers were amazing, so were the keys. Their music is (of course) phenomenal, but seeing them play live was even more exciting. I missed them the last time around, so I can't compare to previous shows, but all in all a great set. The sound crew at the Orpheum was less than terrible, however. I've worked sound before, and it was all I could do not to grind my teeth and develop a twitch. It's one thing for mics to go out, it's another when you don't figure out the problem and the instrument just goes unmic'd song after song. At that point, if it's really the mic--swap it between songs... AT LEAST. Perry was more than frustrated, as was Gerrard. Plain to see. She had to stop singing 2-3 times due to mechanical difficulties.. And a few of the non conventional instruments went totally unheard. That aside! Still worth seeing, without a doubt, and I would still go see someone play at the Orpheum.. If I knew they wouldn't be playing for another 10 years.

I have always liked the eclectic music of Dead Can Dance and saw them once in 1996 in Atlanta at a very upscale venue. Ever since then, I was hoping they would tour live again because it was a VERY worthwhile show!!! The fans who went were mostly all dressed up in cool looking clothes except for me (I just had on a tee shirt and jeans), so it was fun to "people watch" before and after the show. To say the least, the crowd was very diverse! As for the show, the music was great to hear live! They are all great musicians! However, back when I saw them, there was not much of a light show, so if you are expecting to be dazzled by lights, you may be disappointed. I have seen Pink Floyd every single time they toured since 1975 and they have an awesome light show that no band has ever matched. ( I have seen over 300 live concerts). Even though I love a great light show and Dead Can Dance did not have one, I will still see them again because it was a VERY memorable experience! If you are not familiar with their music, I suggest listening to some of their CDs. I think you can rent a live DVD on Netflix from one of their shows around 1998. Even though I hate that they happen to be playing on a Wednesday night instead of the weekend, my wife and I are still definitely going to NOT miss their live show!!! We will just have to sleep in on Thursday morning to recover from the "festive" mood we will be in at the night of the show.

I thought the last time I saw DCD at Atlanta Symphony Hall would indeed be the last forever. The band was breaking up and I thought the song silenced. They re-formed again a few years later and sadly it was a tour which I could not attend. When I heard they were coming to Atlanta again I was first in line to buy tickets, praying I would be quick enough to see these ethereal and wonderful musicians again. Obviously I was. It was a tremendous show with a solid, if unexpected, opening performance by one of the band members using only single percussion instruments to evoke a sound like no other I have heard. As to DCD...I must say they remain the single most unique collaboration of talented musical "geeks" on the planet! Who else would research an 800 year old Arabian song, much less preform it right along-side original more modern folk pieces that call to mind the origin of life on earth and the human soul? From Gregorian chants to tribal rhythms, DCD has always danced the line of beauty, art, talent and the sheer mesmerism of its audience....and successfully at that. This show was no exception...beautiful set colors and lights, Lisa Gerrard's almost supernatural vocals and Brendon Perry's soulful and rich renderings of folk classics combine to take the audience on a journey into truth, melancholia, faith and love. Dead Can Dance remains for me, auditory proof of the ever expanding beauty of the Universe...proof that while there can be darkness, there is also and forever Light.

Virtually all of the material, save one song (Rakim), was new before the band hit encores. The feature was, of course, the new album "Anastasis", but there were also a couple of tracks from the recent solo projects. I'd highly recommend the show. Everything about the show was top notch! The song choices, performance, the audio quality was the best I've ever heard. The mix was transparent and loud yet, not overbearing. Light show was ethereal. Production team was on top of their game. Even the crowd was interesting to look at. A woman 3 rows in front of me was dressed like a peacock and 1/3 of the guys were in kilts. Definitely one of my top 3 live experiences. My only complaint is I couldn't travel to see more shows as it was quite a lot to experience in just one show. Thank you for doing this tour,17 years later and it was definitely worth the wait.

Dead Can Dance were the one group I thought I would never see in my lifetime. But there they were, an astonishing concert of their new album, plus a few old favourites. They are definitely at their best on stage, confirming their live albums. The journalists and radio commentators have every justification to refer to Lisa Gerrard as "The Incomparable Lisa Gerrard", as they do, her voice is beyond belief. And Brendan Perry has a unique songwriting talent and may have the best male singing voice ever. I hope they will have another reunion tour in the future, and I hope it will be sooner than 7 years, as it was from their 2005 tour. However I cannot recommend the historic Ryman Auditorium as a venue, the staff are surly, rude and demeaning to the patrons, particularly the security staff. I know what I'm talking about, I worked in a municipal theatre for many years and to us the patron was king and the customer was always right. Gaylords Entertainment needs to do a housecleaning in there from the top manager to the very bottom.

i never imagined i would see Dead Can Dance, much less in my beloved home town at the historic Ryman Auditorium. i travelled to Chicago last year to see Brendan Perry, thinking it would be my only opportunity to witness his art. Having seen around 80 shows at this legendary venue, dating back to the early 90s, i have never experienced a voice fill that hallowed space like Perry's rich baritone. i remarked to a friend that it was as if the Ryman's sacred timbers had been waiting his timbre to finally realize their potential. There were a few moments that were literally breathtaking. What a thrilling evening! Thanks Brendan, Lisa & Co.!

It s so very cool to look around at a DCD show to see such a diverse crowd of people. Clearly, the music of DCD can attract such a wide audience. Not many other artists can attract the same type of audience mix. After having seen them live again in concert since 1996, they have never lost their shine. They performed a majority of songs from the new CD, Anastasis with a few surprises from yesterday. Lisa Gerrard s voice is glass shattering, mesmerizing all present into a numbing silence. Brendan Perry soothing, quietly sexy voice reaches out with calming sincerity, singing stories of love and life. My attention was caught early on as the opener, a single man, David Kuckhermann, played an instrument called the Hang. Think of a steel drum only convex, like a turtle shell with dimples. He also played an instrument that looked like a tambourine. It was such a great performance I had to buy his CD. Overall, this show at the Cobb Energy Center was the most mesmerizing, enjoyable, uplifting performance to date.

If you have never been to a musical performance at the Ryman, then go. No matter what genre or style you're into, the Ryman Auditorium is an excellent place to listen. Nashville is a music city and that means we love and respect it all. We get into the show, we adore the musicians. Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard are geniuses whose music transcends time. The soundscapes they create and share are like none other. To hear songs ranging back to their first LP to the latest and to witness the sheer mastery of voices and techniques... I feel blessed, to say the very least. They are as good if not better than when they began their journey 30 years ago.

Dead Can Dance has been one of my all time favorite bands since they first showed up in the eighties. Starting out, they were more of a post-punk goth rock band. Over the years they morphed into something more like a post-goth world beat band, at least that is how I would describe them. I was sad when they split up, but both of their respective solo careers were not terribly dissimilar from when they were together. However, there is a certain magic that ONLY be achieved by having them both on the same stage, singing together. Brendan Perry is easily my favorite male singer of this century, and Lisa Gerrard's other worldly vocal style honestly gives me chills (in a very good way). Seeing them together again, gave me a sense of contentment (for a little while any way, in this topsy-turvy world), and all I could think was that I was so happy to be alive to see these two remarkable individuals doing their thing once again. Now, people going to the shows should NOT expect a overly overt and energetic evening. Rather, the vibe is a very subdued one, on the level of a religious experience, with more of a philosophical bend than a theistic one. There is a solemnity to there performance that I was absolutely delighted to be part of. My only regret was that I couldn't go the second night they played in NY, at the Beacon Theatre, which a wonderfully majestic place to see any band. Very highly recommended!

The Dead can Dance concert at the Beacon Theater on Wednesday August 29 was superb. Both Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard were in EXCELLENT voice. Lisa in particular was heavenly; her performance was flawless. They played the entirety of their new album, as expected, but they interspersed most of their best-loved and most famous songs from the past including "Rakim," "Nierika," "The Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove," and others. They also mixed in material from their solo work; when they broke into "Now we are Free" from the 'Gladiator' soundtrack it brought a lump to my throat. They performed three encores for the raucous crowd and definitely gave the fans their money's worth. The only downside was some loudmouth bozo in the orchestra section who kept yelling out things like "Turn it up!" And "Yo Lisa how you doin'? " during the quiet parts. I'm pretty sure he got ejected at some point though. If I had any quibbles with the show, it would be the fact that most of the music was recreated on synthesizers, including the Roland-style kit the drummer was using; and while it all sounded great, I would have liked to see some more 'live' instrumentation as they used in the past. Also, when Lisa sang the eerie "Host of Seraphim," it was at least a whole-step lower than the original recording, if not more; most likely to preserve her voice. A minor quibble, as I said, but it did stand out for that reason. Otherwise they both sounded fantastic (not to mention the blonde keyboardist who harmonized with Lisa - I forget her name but she is an accomplished artist in her own right). And of course, there were a couple of tunes I would have liked to have heard - "Cantara," or even "Babylon" from Brendan Perry's solo album - but that's just me.

I have seen every incarnation of Dead Can Dance since they played at the Palace of Fine Arts in the early 90's. While every show is memorable, and they are always fabulous, this show was more of a "Brendan Perry" show. Lisa was not as prominent, and the show was maybe 6-7 pieces before they left the stage. Also, they played several songs that were new material, as they seem to be departing from their previous tour material. For the $75 concrete seat, I left a little disappointed for the first time in my love affair with this group. Maybe they are just getting older, maybe they just want to get done with the tour, who knows. Dead Can Dance, I love you always. Please give the fans their hard-earned money's worth and play longer. Thank you for touring again!

This performance was absolutely astounding. Lisa Gerrard, Brandon Perry, and the rest of the band gave an awesome performance. Brandon's voice was strong, powerful, and right on par. Lisa hasn't lost a thing either, if anything time has made them even better than I remember from "Toward the Within". The opening performer also played with the band, he did 4 amazing songs on the Hang Drums. The only thing I would miss is having more acoustic instruments and less electronic versions of them. But then again DCD has always been a blend of the two. I especially liked seeing the iMac on stage LOL ... They did 2 encores and then Lisa came out for a 3'rd encore and did a beautiful song backed only by the keyboard player. I never wanted to leave. I could have stayed for another 3 hours of music.

From the opening act to the fifth encore, I was completely mesmerized by the incredible talent being displayed. I made special plans and flew from Las Vegas to SF to see this show. A true fan's dream trip.

I've been a DCD fan since the 80s, so this concert was a particular disappointment. The sound was so over amplified and muddy that you couldn't even make out the songs, and Lisa and Brendan's voices were totally lost. Especially considering that this was at Davies Symphony Hall, which has excellent acoustics, this was really inexcusable. It didn't help that the performers are rather aloof to their audience. We left after 3 songs it sucked.

Brendan was in his finest form, Lisa never lost her form and was simply brilliant, the young percussionist is fast and exciting. Only drawback was bringing the vocals forward, it was a wee bass heavy at first but improved. The performers were spot on...an inspiring show. Peter Roberts told me of this show a week ago, and he told me about them back in 1985 on his Sacred Cow BBQ show on KGLT-FM, after which I quickly became his intern and partner in public radio, playing DeadCanDance and the like for years.

Some might think that the music of Dead Can Dance would make for a boring concert experience, but hearing their stuff performed live is really thrilling. It fills you up and is like a dream. It's very cool to see them live on stage. Such beautiful and mesmerizing sounds. I saw them last year for the first time and was really bowled over. I will never miss them again when they come to town. And especially if they play an acoustically great place like Davies Symphony Hall. AND, as a side, the fashion show in the lobby was awesome - attendees dressed to the nines.

A brilliant band and a great evening. I am saddened that they're gone and that the show is over. I grew up with this band and like a long lost friend I am sad because I don't know when I will see them again.

It's as if time stood still. And they were better live than they are on their recordings. Hard to believe, but true. Amazing performances, amazing voices. So glad I finally got to witness Brendan Perry and Lisa Gerrard and their immense musical talent in person.

Dead Can Dance were amazing in Atlanta. They sounded great, and were gracious enough to give their very appreciative audience three encores. A good mix of new material, fan favorites, and covers.

Awesome. The band, who I have wanted to see live since the 1990's, was absolutely incredible. The venue was spectacular. With pew seating (a first for me at a concert, but quite cool), the atmosphere at the Ryman Auditorium was fantastic. And the sound, the sound at this venue is the best I have ever heard live, period.

I've only waited about 18 years to see Dead Can Dance live and I was not disappointed. This was an amazing concert, one that any DCD fan would be should catch while they are on tour for their new album Anastasis. Having never been to the "Mother Church" it was wonderful to see DCD in a landmark venue such as Ryman Auditorium. The original stained glass windows from when the Ryman was a church so long ago was a fitting tribute to a band that produced a near religious feeling in its fans. Promptly at 8pm percussionist David Kuckhermann came onstange and performed three pieces to warm everyone up. Two pieces were played on these metal wok-like instruments called Hangs and another on a tambourine. He's quite impressive and got huge rounds of applause from the audience. I felt bad for the hundreds of people that were still streaming in after he was finished who missed his performance. He joined DCD as one of the two percussionists so all was not lost for the late-comers. It was a short wait (but felt longer) when the lights dimmed and DCD came onto the stage. I think everyone collectively held their breath when Lisa Gerrard floated (she didn't walk I don't believe... more glided an inch above the stage) out and took her place. She's 51 but looked more like 35, dressed in a beautiful dress and a long golden cape that was entirely fitting for her mermerizing presence. Brendan looks his age, with a now bald head and grey goatee. Brendan Perry opened things up with Children of the Sun, the first song from their new album. It was a good choice as it's one of my favorites from the new album and is a bit more accessible than some DCD songs, perhaps to help those in the audience not completely obsessed with DCD get into the swing of things. Brendan's voice sounds fantastic still, his rich baritone giving life to the songs heady lyrics. Lisa then launced into Anabasis, also from the new album. You could feel the wave of euphoria from the crowd when the first notes of Lisa's perfect voice came floating into the Ryman. Then the opening notes of Rakim, one of my personal favorite DCD songs of all time, sounded and the crowd was ecstatic. This is a stripped-down DCD with only two percussionists and two keyboardists so some songs like Rakim were not as full and vibrant as one would hear on the their live album Toward the Within. Still, hearing both Lisa and Brendan sing together on the same song was so moving and one of my favorite pieces of the evening. Everyone raves about the impeccible sound that the Ryman has during concerts, and for the most part this is true. However the soundboard guys at the Ryman must have been having some issues trying to contain DCD at times. While most of the songs sounded great, when DCD would really get going with heavy percussion and Lisa would unchain her unbelieveably powerful vocals there was some definite distortion issues a few times. I felt the Ryman sound crew were a bit too used to simple acoustic concerts (which didn't tax the amps) or alt-rock bands (when you can't really hear any distortion). This distortion in particular was felt during the one misstep of the evening, The The Host of the Seraphim from DCD's album The Serpent's Egg. Lisa and Brendan sang together on this song and for some reason they just didn't mesh as well as they did on the other songs that featured both singers. While part of it may have been the two singers, the sound simply didn't sound right and the distortion issues in particular marred the performance. This is one of my only complaints however. The entire concert was mesmerizing and I sat, sometimes mouth agape, as I watched a invigorated band weave it's way through 19 songs (including the entire new album). If only the few drunken louts screaming in between songs (and shockingly a few times during softer parts of songs) had stayed home. I found it almost unbelievable that DCD fans would act like that. Lisa took such things well, quickly replying to a fan screaming "We love you Lisa!" with a smooth "and I love you" that brought a huge round of applause. While Brendan seemed mostly business, Lisa smiled throughout the concert, clapping and smiling repeatedly for her bandmates throughout the evening. Another highlight was the sexy and talented Astrid Williamson who played keyboards and sang backup vocals on a number of songs. Towards the end of the evening Astrid song alongside Lisa (I forget which song, sorry!) and somehow managed to hold her own against Lisa's powerful vocals which is quite the feat. She has a number of solo albums that I may have to check out. Everyone expects an encore when a band leaves the stage...DCD gave us three encores. The first encore began with Brendan singing The Ubiquitous Mr. Lovegrove and the crowd went wild. The screaming, clapping, and rhythmic banging of feet between each encore shook the entire building. Lisa ended the concert with a un-recorded song called Rising of the Moon that she's hinted may become a new recorded DCD song in the future. From other reviews and blogs it appears that DCD plays the same setlist every night. It would be nice if they varied things a bit for those diehard fans that would like to see multiple concerts. It was a wonderful evening and one concert I will never forget. We can only hope that this will not be the last we see or hear from DCD. I would give it 4.5 stars if I could but I'll round to 5 stars because its not every day that you get to see DCD live. Simply amazing.

This performance was absolutely amazing. I was happy to have brought some friends with me to share in this experience. The music of Dead Can Dance has been a favorite of mine for many years and they never fail to deliver. Brendan and Lisa have such different vocal styles, but somehow they mesh seamlessly. Lisa's voice is so otherworldly and the intensity of it is only magnified in their live performance.

Dead Can Dance at the DPAC in Durham NC was like floating on a raft in the middle of the ocean. The synths, Lisa Gerrard's incredible voice, all the middle eastern modes and polyrhythms launched me right out of my body. I love Brendan's voice too like an old poet of the sea. We had a moment during the show when people were shouting out titles they wanted to hear. Those people are at all the shows- you know, the ones who are desperate fans of the band and want everyone to know it. Brendan got fussy with them - " Sounds like its karaoke night. Later we' ll all get naked and jump into a fucking jacuzzi together! " Well, this did shut folks up, but also created a rather pathetic vibe in the room for a moment. Maybe he wasn't feeling well or just wanted people to appreciate what they were hearing. They played a lot of tunes off their new CD, which is more mellow and floaty as opposed to the driving rhythmic frenzy that DCD can groove. I loved it! Most every concert I have seen at DPAC has been too loud. The volume muffles and distorts the sound of the music. I think they need an acoustic advisor to help bands get the best sound in the place. It is a great venue. And this loudness thing happens other places too.

It was wonderful to see Dead Can Dance since I enjoyed their music many years ago but never was able to attend a show. Unfortunately, it was easy to see why they are not together anymore ... while Lisa carried herself with poise and beauty, Brendan Perry was a disappointment. Whether he was upset about the excited crowd yelling out song suggestions in between songs or other band business, he carried himself very unprofessionally in my opinion!

I have been a longtime fan of DCD, and I saw them live at Radio City a few years ago. I was very much looking forward to this show. Unfortunately, I found that the concert was quite dull. All the songs were more or less the same tempo: they hardly played any of their more upbeat music. It almost felt like every song was the same. I took my fiancee and he was so bored that he went to the lobby to check Facebook on his phone! We ended up leaving early. I felt very disappointed that I had spent so much money on the tickets and not had a good experience.

From the opening number to the last it was an enjoyable show. I particularly liked that the sound was properly adjusted and you could actually hear the singing over the instruments. Far too often you simply can't. My only real complaint is that at most concerts I get the feeling that the performers are "giving energy back" to the audience and I just didn't get that feeling from "Dead Can Dance".

I was only mainly knowledgable about their most favorate album (Into the Labyrith). They only recently came out with a new album after 16 years. The majority of the concert was dedicated to their latest album, which I found montonous and repetitive in contrast to earlier works. They were a extremely gifted group with great vocals and technical virtousity of their instruments, but the music from 15 to 20 years ago was far superior to their latest offerings.

I had never seen DCD in concert prior to this. They were amazing. Their voices and sound were great. Don't expect a lot of interaction though. I think Brendan Perry spoke about two of the songs and Lisa Gerrard wished us a good night. That's it. I also had hoped for a few more older songs, the majority of the concert was the new albums material. Still, they are consummate musicians and did the most important thing, deliver excellent music.

I have been fortunate to see DCD twice before (1990 and 2005), and this show does not disappoint. They play all songs from their new album (you can listen free or download from deadcandance.com) and 10 older songs. Fantastic visual displays (lighting) compliments exceptional sound - all music is LIVE - no pre-recorded audio. Lisa and Brendan's voices are exceptional as ever. This band rarely tours...if you can go, don't hesitate! I am seeing them in Nashville as well (flying in from Florida for both shows)!

Being a longtime DCD fan, this review is completely biased ... So now that that's out of the say, let's press on! Everything about this show was amazing, to say the least. Brendan's voice came across as strong as metal ore and each song of his gave me chills!! Lisa, of course, astounded even the most dedicated DCD fan there with her delivery. It's to be expected, needless to say, that her vocals came not just from her diaphragm, but from the very core of her soul!! She looked like she was really enjoying herself, too, what with the audience's reaction and all. This is a show that I will truly NEVER forget. I only hope that the positive feedback we all gave to them Saturday night will bring them back again! Simply incredible!!!!!!

There are many performance artist that don't have the same feeling or sound when they are performing live. This show proved that a group is POSSIBLE to sound even better!! It was an amazing night. The music and feeling that went into the work was authentic! The venue was the perfect match. The Beacon Theatre has the right ambience for this group.I believe they could have sold out MSG, but it would not be the same.It would have been a mismatch for their style. I am looking forward to another show in the future!

Music was solid, sound was very good (I like the DPAC acoustics), lighting went well with the sound. However, performance was too cold for me. No reason for Gerrard to be an "ice queen" and for Perry to be an "angry guy". No reason not to communicate with the audience when you are in your 50's. Perry didn't even return to the stage for the last two rounds of applause, for the last encore. Performance was better than listening to their CD's on my system at home but not memorable.
