The Heavy always put on an energetic, fast-paced show. There are no slow songs in their set. They constantly engage with the crowd. Highly recommended!

From the moment they all calmly walked out onto the stage in the beginning, and finally ending with "How Do You Like Me Now?" as the final song - the band and the audience were really in high gear. Such energy! This concert was truly one of the best concerts I've been to.

Before they even went on stage Kelvin Swaby (lead vocal) was in the back by the bar selling t-shirt and cd's. He was easily accessible and easy to talk to with his English accent. He was very laid back and chill. Some time later, the crowd gathered around the stage and eagerly awaited The Heavy to come on. The lights dimmed and as they took stage the crowd went crazy. From there is was all rock and roll with a little neo soul. They played all their good songs and had the crowd on their feel and in the air the entire show. Kelvin's energy was full tilt as he sang his heart out and danced around the stage. The songs sounded exactely like the album. It was an amazing show!

This is the hottest band I've heard in awhile. Although the commercialism that so often accompanies widespread popularity can be a killer, I find it a bit puzzling that they aren't being played more by the rock stations. They really rock, but still have that old "motown" groove that makes you want to move. Lead vocals is fit, dynamic, personable, an absolute star!

Pretty impressive, there was definitely a gap between studio and stage performance, but production quality aside they gave a strong energetic show. I only wish they had played more from The House That Dirt Built. Overall definitely worth the $10 sale price I payed for going. And City on the Make (the opening band) was like Soul Coughing on speed! An truly enjoyable event.

Hearing The Heavy live was incredible! Halfway through though, the sound started faltering. First the guiitarist was indicating for more, then the lead singer was drowned out a bit. Almost like a battle between them for sound, and in the end, the vocals lost out- unfortunately. Which obviously sucks, but overall, they put on a good show. Maybe next time they'll bring their own sound guy! I will, however, attend their show the next time!! They were so much better live! Hopefully a little bigger venue too!

Has been ten years since I have been to the Bowery ballroom. The last time was for Maroon 5 in 2000. Glad I came out for the heavy. They kicked a*s. Played much bigger than the venue and they're going places. Will come again if Band of Skulls come through.

Found this band through Youtube. I really dug the song they did on Letterman (do you like me now). As with any "new" band that I was seeing live for the first time, I was expecting to like a few songs, but certainly come across some tunes that were mediocre. Needless to say, my friends and I were blown away by the sheer energy spewing forth from the stage - and amazingly - I LIKED EVERY SONG. I will say that after experiencing them live, and then going back to listen to more of thier stuff on youtube (studio cuts), this is definitly a band that you should see live - and personally, they should stop doing studio albums and just cut live ones - the difference is tremendous.

honestly, was going into this show with low expectations, as their studio albums are overly polished. the band absolutely killed it, and the vocalist has great presence. love that these guys played with two sax players, a trumpet player and two female backing vox. just a great live act and i will be sure to catch the next nyc date.

They're music has an old school soul rock rock thing going on. I was interested to see how it translated live. I'd heard they were entertaining. And sure enough, they did not dissapoint! A&R in Columbus only holds roughly 3-400 people. I'm not sure how they fit 7 people on that stage. The sound was great! Kelvin was on top of his game. He had the crowd in his hand doing whatever he wanted from start to finish. He kept everyone involved. It was a fantastic show and I highly recommend them. Especially if you ever get the chance to see them in a small venue.

In case you don't know The Heavy play a version of 60's soul influenced rock. They played a cross section of their three albums, including fan faves How You Like Me Now?, Short Change Hero and What Makes a Good Man? The basic four piece line-up were augmented by two sax players (who also sang back-up) and two backing singers. They played well, put on a good show, got the audience moving and shouting; what more could you want from a concert? Band and audience all seemed to have a great time. The most fun I've had at a show in a while.

The Heavy is one of those bands that, though they sound great on your earphones, you can't truly appreciate until you see them live. Loud and raw-yet-polished, they know how to put on a show. Openers The Silent Comedy almost stole the night with a set so tight, and songs so good, that I sought them out in the lobby and bought everything they had to offer. The show kicked off with Kendra Morris who, although she sounded fine (her band was tight, though indifferent) we both got the impression that she was putting on an act. Think Lana Del Ray and her "invented" persona. It was like watching someone with a musical theater background try to pull off Amy Winehouse. Not quite right, but not bad either. Overall, a thoroughly rockin' evening.

Such a talented band and high energy ; they had everyone in the place singing a long and stomping their feet. .The band is incredible and the singer , kelvin has an amazing voice . He is able to switch from jazz to rock to reggae . Its impossible to have a favorite song ; I have about 20. I highly recommend this band and look forward to seeing them again.

The venue was really neat. All the performances were great. Though the first opening act The Skins, it was difficult to understand what she was saying. I'm not sure if it was their equipment or an echo in the venue, but I could still tell that the songs were pretty good. I was pleasantly surprised to see The Silent Comedy as the second opening act since I became a fan after hearing their song Bartholomew. They were awesome and played their new single. The heavy show was great! All the bands were really nice and stayed after their performances at the merch table to chat and sign posters and stuff. The Heavy was so great, I forgot to take pics.

I never saw them perform before, but am a more recent fan. Absolutely stellar show in a small venue. The minute I saw them bring 2 horns on stage at the beginning, I new there would be some new-Motown sound madness. Ran through a very high high-octane set, both old and new, and mixed in a couple slower songs to drop the tempo only to bring it back up again. Would love to see them again soon!

As in the title, The Heavy were awesome. They played all of their hits and they brought great energy to the stage. The venue, however, was a little lacking in terms of sound. Felt as if the levels were just way too high. I go to a ton of concerts, and I had to bust out my ear plugs, standing in the back, because the sound was seriously deafening.

When I saw The Heavy touring their first album 4 years ago at the Echo, we had to keep yelling, "turn up the microphone." They trekked out of their hometowns and were doing their best then. This time around, they've come full circle and have become a full on show, with a keyboardist, 2 alto saxophonists and a 3-member choir. My girlfriend standing next to me, new to their kind of music, whispers to me, "they've invented their own genre." Which basically sums up The Heavy. Theirs is a mix of blues, rock and party-oriented whimsical doublets. The music was great. They played several tracks off the recent LP "The Glorious Dead", their singles (and the two songs they managed to license off their first album to Nissan and iTunes) and one unreleased heavy blues track. Those who didn't wait for the encore missed out on a lot.

This has to be one of the best concerts I have ever seen! I haven't heard of The Silent Comedy before, but will definitely be looking for some now. Before the concert Kelvin was walkin around with the audience. We stopped and said hi. He talked to us for a bit and took a pic with me. Very gracious person. During the concert he was great about getting the audience involved and was connected to the audience. The music was like the recodings and yet amped up for concert. He was a great showman and the rest of the band was great too. One guitarist was pretty lethargic, but the back up singers he has are fantastic. It was a show I will always remember and will definitely be watching for more of their concerts. It was phenomenal!

It was one of those rare perfect sets for a band. The crowd fed off of spirited lead man Kelvin Swaby and he in turn fed off the boisterous crowd. Every song gathered force for the final encore when they performed their two most well-known songs 'What Makes a Good Man?' and 'How You Like Me Now?'. It was a rambunctious cap to an extraordinarily fun night with my wife. Hope The Heavy comes back soon cuz we will surely see them again. Props to the band and the backup singer.

I went to this expecting to enjoy The Heavy's big hit tune "How Do You Like Me Now". I wasn't particularly familiar with their albums. I was blown away, from the first song on. They really combine funk/soul with rock is a great way. The Baritone/Tenor sax team added not only great horn lines, but at times sounded like a deep fuzzed guitar. The lead singer worked the audience in a great way, and has a incredible voice. All the other players (and 3 backup singers) were great. One of the best shows I've seen in many years of concert-going. The Fonda, being standing room only, isn't an ideal venue, since I'm not tall. But there was room on an elevated area, so I had a great view and could see the whole show. I've now bought all their albums.

Excellent with great crowd interaction. To make that size of a crowd sound as loud as they did, was awesome and gratifying. If you haven't gone, GO!

The Heavy was fantastic. Sounded great, high energy, lots of crowd involvement. Great to see them at a small venue like The Shelter.

The combo of Silent Comedy and The Heavy at such a intimate venue made for an awesome show. We were right in front of the stage and even though there was an crowd of a hundred or so each band played as if they were playing in front of thousands, the crowd fed off the energy and it was loud and rockin. Highly recommended !

I love The Heavy. This was the second time I've seen them play in Detroit. They are humble, and their gritty rock performances are consistently excellent and full of energy. They play to the crowd and are happy to meet their fans before and after each show. I will definitely see them the next time they are in the area!! * The Silent Comedy has been touring with them through N. America and are equally fantastic; the musical styles are different and unique, but they work together well on tour. TSC is more "electric bluegrass" and also a high-energy show. Check them out!!

This was my 2nd Heavy show and it did not disappoint! The band is tight and Kelvin always puts in 120% to make sure the audience is engaged and entertained. Will definitely see them again when they come through Detroit.

The Heavy was simply awesome! The small venue was a great setting for this powerhouse band! The lead singer took pictures before the show and the entire band signed posters and shirts afterwords (wish they had taken credit card). Opening band, the Silent Comedy, was also great. They also stayed around until the end of the night signing everything. The electric banjo needs to be seen. Great voices from multiple singers. Big props to this band holding on to my wife's lost wallet and giving it to the bartender. Simply a great night and great venue (with great pizza as well).

For starters, A&R Music Bar is a wonderful, intimate music venue with excellent acoustics. Opening band Silent Comedy kicked things off with the right tempo: upbeat, uniquely-styled music delivered perfectly with an appropriate amount of intensity. The Heavy put on a fantastic show with their brilliant music. Would go again in a heartbeat.
