It was the second time I have seen the Blind Boys in concert. They do not disappoint. It was mostly new music with the same energy as I remember it. How do they do it? All I can say is their music keeps them young and alive with grace, love and praise. Being in the beautiful and small venue of the American Theatre was also perfect for this group. If they come back, I will too!

The concert started very promptly and Reik was really good. Then Natalia comes out and her songs and voice are amazing! She's such a happy person and entertained the crowd without a problem. I really enjoyed myself!

Some of the best energy I've ever seen a band have. I caught these guys when I was out in Jackson Hole, WY, and they rocked the hell outta the show then, so I knew I was gonna catch them on their east coast trip. The mix of the rock and funk with hip hop and pop cover songs gets people moving within just a song or two. The sound quality was a little rough at times, and all my friends agreed that it was a little bit too loud for comfort, but on the band itself, everyone enjoyed themselves. Highly recommended.

We went to this concert specifically to see SAVOIR ADORE, the opening act. We were impressed. They've come a long way from their singer/songwriting days. The band was tight, full of energy and played with authority. The lighting and sound was better than we expected. The vocals were usually mixed well and very audible. Most of the songs were from their "Our Nature" cd which contains some of the best lyrics I have ever heard. Savoir Adore are incredible song writers and their stage show is becoming "high octane" pop! We had to catch the train upstate so we didn't hear much of Sea Wolf who sounded excellent.

The music at this Friday the 13th show was first-rate and I enjoyed all three bands a lot. Sound was good, loud, but not too much. Vocals could have been mixed better. However, I do have some comments and complaints about the venue. The Bowery Ballroom web site said that doors would open at 7:00 and the show would start at 8:00. Now I've been going to concerts for years and I know that shows don't usually begin on time. However, for a 3-band gig I thought this might be close to accurate, and since I had bought my ticket over the web and had instructed it be held in will-call, I arrived on time. As it turned out, doors didn't open until after 8:00 and the first band didn't begin until after 9:00. This is unfair to your customers, a disrespect of their personal time. Next, there was no sense of curation, no sense that the Bowery Ballroom bookers had intentionally assembled this bill and chosen these performers for some coherent reason. For instance, all three groups are from Canada, which has a very active indie music scene. I doubt most other attendees knew this beforehand, and given the difficulty of hearing the band's brief self-descriptions, few listeners may have left knowing this at the end of the evening. Would it kill you to have an announcer say at the beginning of a show something like, "The Bowery Ballroom is proud to present three of the most exciting acts from Montreal, Halifax, etc.. . . ." Let people know why the establishment has chosen to put on this program, instead of another. It's called curation.

Cary Brothers sounds so amazing live. We had such a great evening, full of wicked music and tons of laughs (who knew he was so hilarious?!). I'll definitely be going next time he's in town.
