It may have been the impending departure of the Blues Cruise to Jamaica, or the family of blues buds that preceded him to the stage..but JJ Gray and his mighty Mofro were a powerful hard hitting performance a week ago. Wish I could have boarded that cruise.

I have been a JJ Grey fan for a few years now but had not seen them live. They did not disappoint! The professionalism was outstanding. I liked that the band were dressed up, in jackets/suits, and JJ was in a suit. Thought this added a nice touch, something different from most bands. The House of Blues was the perfect venue that offered that up close and personal experience. You felt like you got a personal concert! This is an awesome band and highly recommend seeing them in person to everyone who likes the blues!!
Culture Room - Ft Lauderdale, FL - Fri, Jan 14, 2011
Other than JJ's disapointment in how loud his fans were, it was great. I think he could have treated the issue with more tact. However, he is a wonderfully talented musician and entertainer. His songs are great and deep. The band was amazing! I was very happy to see Todd Smallie, a great Atlanta talent, and every single band member was exceptional!

This band rocks! Saw the show on Jan 14th at the Culture Room in Ft. Lauderdale. LOVED IT!!! Their style is bluesy & jazzy with a little southern rock. JJ Grey is one talented and sexy guy! Loved the drummer & the horns. You could tell they were all having fun - the entire band was smiling the whole time! This was our fist time at this venue. It was quaint and the acoustics were good. We will definitely be back. Highly recommend JJ Grey & Mofro... you'll love them!

From the first beat to the last note, the show was hot, and the band was tight. It isn't possible to overstate how good this band is live, and it all starts with Grey's "conducting." He sets a tone that seems to demand attention from both the band and audience, and there isn't a time where all parties involved aren't having a great time.

JJ Grey & Mofro took the stage at the Culture room and proceeded to treat everyone there to a fantastic rock n roll show. From the beginning with Georgia Warhorse the show was unstoppable with fun, dancing, and great musicianship. 3 hours later I walked out of the Culture Room really happy that I was at that show!!!

Well, they had everything. Jazz, blues, southern rock, soul, southern baptist, and good ol' rock-n-roll. The warm-up band in Chicago was much better though. The sound in Indy was much better. Absolutely will be there next year as well! About the only thing better would be the Dave Mathews Band.

I am 46 years old and have been seeing live music my whole life. This was by far the best single night of live music I've ever experienced. The level of talent for seven musicians on one stage simply cannot be matched. I hope JJ Grey and Mofro go on to great things, but if not, I hope they continue to play the Ark and Ann Arbor whenever they can. I'll be there.

I saw JJ gray & Mofro open for Buddy Guy earlier this summer. They were awesome. They seemed like a odd pairing with Buddy Guy, but buy the end of there set they got the whole house rocking. First time in a while I was hoping for a encore of a opening act. The opportunity came at the Intersection. Headliners for their new album: "Georgia Warhorse", they put on a killer show. They were even better the second time! If your sick of all the pop rock and "alternative" music that has flood the market, go see this band or get buy one of their albums. These guys put the "feel good" back into music, and are produce a timeless sound of real rock and roll. The Albums sound great, and they sound even better live. Glad to be a fan, hope to see them again soon! If they are headed your way, go see this band.

this is the second time I have seen JJG and MF, and his performance was great. But as concert goers know, there is more to the show experience. First, the fact that there was THREE HOURS OF OPENING ACTS, and for a Sunday night he did not come on until 10:15 is unneeded and again inconsiderate of his fans. the third "extended jam" closing songs by emerging acts was frankly needed and took away from the listening experience. And for the second time, he refused to play one or some of his biggest hits- which has made him more main stream. I love the JG center and will love to see more acts there but seriously------- 3 hours is worse than the old days at the SPORTATORIUM in hollywood. I loved the performance, but the reasons above ruined the fun and served as a distraction. I ask that JJ is more considerate of his fans time on a Sunday night.

We had been waiting a long time to finally see JJ Grey, and he did not disappoint! JJ Grey gives lots of positive energy during the show, just makes you feel good to be ALIVE! Great Band! Highly recommend this talent. The Venue was impressive. Sound was crisp and clear, Lots of places to buy beer, etc... Lots of bathrooms. I got beer three times, bathroom a few times and NEVER had to wait in line for either. I LOVE the Taft! Will be back in March to see J Roddy Walston and the Business, and cannot wait! My only small complaint were the seats. I would prefer not to have any for a show like JJ Grey. You have to get up and dance! Hard to move around with seats everywhere. Walston and the business will be in the ballroom with SRO, so I'm REALLY looking forward to that show!

We had never been to this park before. It was delightful. The setup was excellent with the stages on either side. The music was great and, of course, JJ Grey was our draw and he certainly did not disappoint (but he never has with us, so....). I know the more often the Big Orange is run, the bigger it will get but please don't put it inside. The fresh air just makes this type of festival. More vendors will be nice. The ones that were there this year were interesting and fun and the food was nicely varied. Great job! Hope to see you next year.

Port Charlotte can be proud of this layback concert venue. Easy parking without having to walk a mile as with concerts in St Pete, and nice people staffing it. I was there for the whole thing, and when the very second act, Sean Chambers, turned out to be phenomenal I knew I was in for a great show. Tinsley Ellis got everyone up and dancing. North Mississippi Allstars were the best I've seen them with their new bass holding them together really well. A brilliant performance where I occasionally thought of them like a deep South Jimi Hendrix and his drummer. Denson's jazzy performance was as good as I've heard them. JJ Grey was better than I thought he would be from his YouTube clips. A soulful performance. Not up to the others though, and thought he should have switched places with N Mississippi Allstars.

The 2nd Annual Big Orange Music Festival was a grand slam. Moving the concert to outdoors to Laishley Park on the banks on the Peace river with it's perfectly manicured lawn and clear cool sky was just icing on the cake. Please consider this the new venue moving forward every week-end before Thanksgiving... The food trucks and variety of choices including a killer black bean burger and hand cut fries was a big treat. The full bar along with a great beer selection ( although it would be nice if you could provide an IPA next year ) was better than most festivals. Having two full stages complete with lighting and effects is such a great concept. It's was cool each time the announcer asked us to do the "Big Orange Shuffle" as the bands rotated performing on the two stages and started right on time. Kudos to the organizers. And of course the line up of musical talent was the best I've heard in a long while. My personal fav's were the North Mississippi Allstars and of JJ Grey. My only wish is that JJ is the perennial headliner for the Festival because if he is, me and my buddies will attend every year. Good job to all those who worked so hard to pull this baby off. Please know we appreciate your hard work.

Among the best concerts I've seen in years. JJ Grey brought the house down and blew off the roof. Way beyond my expectations. I've only been into his music about a year but I own every album. Seeing him live was moving. The music, the vibe of the crowd, the band grooving, WOW! Speaking of the band they were fantastic. As a musician I can appreciate solid performers and they did not disappoint. It was a magical night of groovin' boogie, funky beats and rocking' in the souther roots tradition. They went way beyond these labels but it's the best I can do to describe what was a memorable night of great music. Anyone who says today's music is crap needs to go see JJ Grey and & Mofro.

Awesome from start to finish. ALL KILLER NO FILLER! JJ fed off the unexpected energy of the crowd and reciprocated it right back down thru the music. Most acts sound worse live than on the record but these guys are better live! Was a fan before but am a true believer now. THIS IS REAL MUSIC - NO BUBBLE GUM OVERDUBBED BS HERE.Will definitely be back to see again. AMAZING! SWAMP FUNK FOREVER!!!!!

JJ Grey and Mofro were awesome. Each band member demonstrates amazing musicianship. They have fun while performing. Doesn't feel over-rehearsed and they don't rely on theatrics. Pure raw genius. Opening act Swamp Cabbage was awesome. Got to get their albums. Thumbs up to Southern Rock!

It was the first show on their "This River" tour. He said they didn't rehearse--hadn't even seen each other. You'd never know! The chemistry between the bandmates was totally entertaining. JJ was on fire! I had seen The Greyhounds (without JJ) & had seen JJ solo, but this was my first time seeing the band all together. All around awesome show!

Great show! JJ Grey and Mofro have big energy and great chemistry. The guitarist and sax player battled it out. JJ's singing is album quality. They are better live than i expected. I would have liked to here more older music. Lots of new mterial. House of Blues was a fun, intimate venue.

Ryan Montbleu opened with a good, but LONG set. I don't know if it was because I was wedged up front and didn't want to leave, but it seemed like he played for hours. He's a good songwriter, though, and has a great voice. JJ Grey and Mofro played a blistering set spanning over their entire catalog. Every one of them (especially JJ) looked like he was having an absolute blast, which is great to see in a band that tours relentlessly. Since it was their first time in Boston since the release of their latest album, Georgia Warhorse, they played almost half of that album, but made sure to sprinkle it in throughout the whole set to not bore anyone unfamiliar with it. JJ loved the audience's reception, and had us sing along in every song that a singalong was remotely possible for. Personal favorites included Ho Cake, Orange Blossoms, Lochloosa, and Slow Hot & Sweaty. The one song that I really wanted to hear but didn't was Dew Drops (or Lullaby), I was hoping for one of them during the encore but no dice. In the end, though, they played for more than two hours and completely wore me out! Awesome. Paradise looks great - a lot of construction was done over the summer months, which explains the lack of shows. The result is a much better flow, and a club that feels much larger, even though it was only expanded a little. Don't let the House of Blues take business away from this club, it's by far the best place in Boston for live music!

Anytime I can see JJ Grey I will be there. He is a wonderful musician and entertainer who always looks like he is doing what he loves. Further more anytime I can see anyone at Ponte Vedra Concert Hall I am there. I love the intimacy of the venue.

Gainesville native, now living in Ft Lauderdale. Been to Lochloosa, Orange Lake, Santa Fe, Ichetucknee (JJ's neck of the woods) you name 'em, 100 times or more- JJ Grey sings about my home I left 30 years ago, but still visit. I just discovered JJ half a year ago (where have I been?) with Sweetest Thing, then find he's coming to town! The stars are aligned, I'm pumped!!! Go to see him at Fillmore Miami Beach Feb 2018, and... was disappointed. He's wearing a suit and tie, the light show is out of control, and I turn to my wife and say "This is like if Pitbull did Southern/Gospel Blues Rock." The music was good, but the show was just waaay overproduced. Was it because it was Miami Beach, I wondered? Maybe, but I can't see changing the look and feel for one show. Don't hate on me for sharing, it wasn't bad, it's just that the production didn't fit the music. Opening were the North Mississippi Allstars and (21 year old) Marcus King Band, and because they were supporting acts, they didn't get the over the top light show, and it worked. Can't recommend both of them highly enough, check them out. I still love JJ, but man, his team has to turn down the show biz a bit. Me? I'll see ya at Cross Creek...

These guys represent the best in soul, funk, and blues with their hot licks, funky grooves and soulful lyrics. J.J. sings and plays his heart out. Mofro lays out southern soul music, gritty funk and juke joint pieces like you ve never heard. If these guys are playing anywhere remotely close to home....GO!!! You will not be disappointed.

JJ Grey was outstanding as usual. I cannot say enough good things about JJ and his fellow Mofro. A couple of the opening acts were a pleasant surprise and great to listen to also.

Having this show indoors was certainly different. I would have preferred it be outside but I understand the concerns with weather and all. The biggest problem was the beer lines. I would say I probably spent half of my time waiting in line...which was only twice. Mofro was great, first time seeing them. Thomas Wynn is a great band, have seen them before, but they had some serious sound/feedback issues going on. The highlight of the night was a band I'd never even heard of, the Fritz.

Kaleigh Baker opened the show with her Janis Joplin meets the girl next door, amazing voice, sexy sinister sister routine. Her band was hitting on all cylinders and she was on point, hitting all the notes and then some. Then JJ comes out looking like he's ready to party all night and boy did he. This was my first JJ show and I think I picked a good one. He's the real deal, Florida funkmeister, soul man extraordinaire. His band, Mofro are so talented and diverse in their arrangements that I was pleasantly stunned. They played for hours and never faltered. JJ was very personable and just real. I see why he has a devoted fanbase. He deserves it.

Great show! We went to see JJ Grey & Mofro and Big Head Todd, but all three bands were great. A truly special night. The only issue we had was with the group of middle-aged children sitting behind us in row K, supposedly cousins of JJ Grey. Obnoxious and juvenile. I think the venue should stop selling alcohol at a certain point in the evening.
