I have wanted to see the Prarie Home Companion show for years. When I found out David Rawlings and Gillian Welch were going to be on Saturdays show at the Rhyman, I had to go! What a show Chris Thile put on! My wife and I were both just blown away with the whole show. I have always enjoyed listening to the show but to actually experience 'Live from here' was awesome, and even more being in the Rhyman! Look forward to the next time!

Two musicians, both of whom who are the very best of their craft, blending two decidedly different genres to create an undefinable new one. Thile and Mehldau have pulled off an absolute magic trick and left the audience with their jaws dropped.

Chris Thile is, once again, in his entertainment element on PHC! His quick whit, humor & timing are spot on! The talent which follows him wherever he travels is always astounding! His own talent pushes those who surround him to the ultimate level. PHC's orbit has tilted from quirky humor musical radio show to a master's level of talent. This show has new blood which will persevere through time. Thanks to Garrison Keeler for his outstanding platform of humor & talent which launched a radio show with integrity for generations to come. Passing the torch to a talent like Chris is a relay of continuum, bringing PHC to a new exciting level! Thanks to all involved!

Great show. If you have not listened to Prairie Home Companion for a long time (or never before), I would recommend tuning in or going to the show. I feel Chris has made the show much more music centered, with the focus on indie and blue/new grass.

The good old time radioshow of PHC has ridden into history. Do not expect much of the style that Garrison Keilor offered to we baby boomers. The average age of attendees has dropped by at least 10 years and while the music was excellent, it was a much larger component of the program, the humorous "skits" taking an apparent back seat. The humor that was present was obscure and not all that funny to my generation (not anyones fault, just a fact of social realities). My recommendation potential to go to a future show will be limited to X-genners and millenials. I will continue to casually listen to the broadcasts, but the intensity will be lower and in a style of monitoring only. This entertainment mode must be passed on to succeeding generations and the old must, of necessity, pass away or this mode of entertainment will do so itself. "The King is dead, long live the King!"

Fantastic variety show - not a minute of the 2 hrs failed to keep our rapt attention. 4/5ths of the (amazing) Punch Brothers on stage led by Chris Thile, Aoefe O'Donovan has an awesome presence (and voice) - guests Jenny Lewis and Amos Lee were spot on. Even the local comedian Nate Bategatze was quite good.

Little remains of the iconic Prairie Home that many of us enjoyed for decades. It is more properly described as Chris Thile Music. He participated in virtually every performance by visiting musicians. If that is what the audience came to see, that would be entertaining. Chris Thile is talented, but so are countless dozens of musicians in Nashville which one can see at any time around Nashville for a lot less money. A Prairie Home Companion with Garrison Keillor was unique and it is now totally gone.

We brought my two boys with us to the show. My dad introduced me to Prairie Home Companion back in the late 80's. I have always been a fan of the Americana, bluegrass music that has been such a great part of the show over the years. The humor, stories and skits have been a source of great enjoyment as well. We were excited to share this experience with our two boys, the live aspect of radio, the music and the skits. Chris Thile and Company did not disappoint. We were alll glued to the stage throughout. From the first moments Musician Sarah Jarosz came on stage to sing to the closing sing along we thouroghly loved every moment.

One of the most prominent mandolinists and blue grass performers of our time, Chris Thile warmly welcomes us into a live radio setting with incredible guest performers. A Prarie Home Companion is an actual radio show. The host of more than 30 years is handing it over to Chris Thile. Guests Regina Spector and the Shins were even better live. My only regret is that the show aasnt longer. Highly reccommended

As usual; the Prairie Home Companion actors and guests provided a marvelous and entertaining show. The Shins - Wow! They definitely have a new fan. Regina Spektor - what a talent, what a voice. She sync'd up with the Band like they had been playing together for years. And what can you say about Sara Jarosz, She just keep getting better and better, from playing lead, solo or just being part of the band, she owns the music. Simply amazing. Wrap all that up in the Paramount, with Chris Thile and his mighty mandolin and you have a truly wonderful experience. Can't wait for them to come back!

I'm an unabashed fan of radio productions and a long time listener to A Prairie Home Companion. Under Garrison Keiler's guidance I marveled at how well the shows came off, each and every time. When Garrison left I questioned who could possibly fill his shoes and keep the show going. Then along comes his chosen heir, Chris Thiele. Not only does Chris fill Garrison's shoes, he overflows them with a cascade of talent. Both music and comedy are his forte. Not only is he an amazing mandolin player, he also appreciates other musical talents, as evidenced by not only his own group but also guest artists both here in Seattle and on past shows. In my opinion there is nothing not to like about the new A Prairie Home Companion. Under Chris it should endure and entertain for decades to come.

Initially bought tickets when I saw that Sarah Jaroz was playing at the Seattle PHC show. I'll admit that I wasn't familiar with Regina Spektor or The Shins but found myself to be an instant fan of both. Wonderful and moving stuff. (Regina's "Trapper and the Furrier" was whoa! and still with me) This was the first show we'd seen with Chris at the helm and he's made for it. Awesome, tight-loose music from Rich and the band and the Radio actors nailed it as usual. Great show, the talent just flowed. Thanks for the time here and putting together all the moving parts to put on such a production!

Yo Yo Ma and Steve Martin on the same stage...an exceptional mix of musicians on the same stage.. Chris Thile's mandolin part for the Bach Partia was excellent and a great demonstration of the range of the mandolin. I am looking forward to more creative programing from Chris Thile. And of course a nod to the sound effects team and their seemingly expanded role.

I have always wanted to see "A Prairie Home Companion" but never actually got around to getting tickets. This time was different...as soon as I saw that Chris Thile was going to be the new host I just had to get tickets and I am so glad I did. Great show and a lot fun. The guests on the show, Marcus Mumford and Corinne Bailey Rae were wonderful. Admittedly I had not heard of Corinne before but certainly glad I was able to experience her singing and will be looking out for her in the future. I am a fan of Mumford and Sons so to be able to see Marcus Mumford perform live was definitely a plus. As for Chris Thile, I have only recently become a fan of his when on a lark I decided to see him perform and was so glad I did. He is funny, talented and a great story teller and A Prairie Home Companion is a great forum for him. I would recommend to everyone to check him out.

We are fans of the show. It's always fun to see a radio show in person. We were a little concerned what it would be like with a new host and a different format. But Chris Thile is a consummate entertainer and knows everyone in the music business. He sounded great with the accompaniment of Aoife O'Donovan. I love Rich Dworsky's musical arrangements and with his band. We really lucked out with the guests Steve Martin and the Steep Canyon Rangers as well as Yo-Yo Ma with Edgar Myers. The skits with Tim Russell and Serena Brook were fun and funny,Fred Newman's sound effects great and Marina Franklin, the comedienne was funny. We missed Garrison Keillor and his stories; missed Guy Noir and missed the Ketchup skit and song. The venue is always great at Town Hall. The show was a real winner. I can't wait to see it again.

Chris Thile was the perfect choice for Garrison Keillor to hand over the reigns. He blends his own style with a lot of the old, beloved bits into a perfect transition, making for a wonderful new format that will last many years into the future. And this particular performance's guests (Goat Rodeo and Steel Canyon Rangers) just made this the best show ever. The choice of the comedienne was the only "fly in the ointment"--odd choice in general, and not a particularly good comedienne.

A Prairie Home Companion is a variety show similiar to what the Grand Old Opry puts on for country music. There are multiple artists that sing a few tunes and some skits in between. I went because I'm a huge Mumford and Sons fan, but I enjoyed hearing Trevor Bailey talk about his childhood and read excerpts from his book and listening to Corinne Bailey Rae - who has a beautiful voice! Chris Thile was a very entertaining host, and he's amazing on the mandolin!

First time seeing the show without Garrison Keillor. I think Chris Thile did a great job of making it his own without loosing the the essence of Prairie Home Companion. Overall a very enjoyable show and looking forward to next year!

I have been going to Prairie Home shows in New York for at least a fifteen years and am, of course, a huge Garrison Keillor fan. If you are wondering if anyone can sucessfully follow Garrison, the answer is yes. Chris Thile is a talented musician who connects with his audience coming across as a guy who is sicerely having a good time and wants you in on the fun. His guests, Marcus Mumford and Corinne Bailey Rae were impressive performers and Trevor Noah had you laughing. Chris is different than Garrison and so the show is good in a different way. Go to this show.

We enjoyed the show from beginning to end. The guest stars were very entertaining and, even though we are not fans of some of the music it was a good show. Some facets of A Prairie Home Companion have changed; Lake Wobegon has disappeared from the map but is replaced by an equally funny segment.

How much better can it get than Chris Thile surrounded by Marcus Mumford, Corinne Bailey Rae and an eloquent Trevor Noah moving forward the dynamism of Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion. The musical numbers were memorable; Trevor Noah's comments and readings on growing up as a bi-racial in apartheid South Africa will be seared into your memory and Thile's virtuosity on the mandolin will astound. The crowd was 20 years younger than in past years and they loved it. Makes us hopeful in this dark time to consider what the years ahead for APHC can be.

That being said after Garrison's retirement I have continued to listen and my wife and I attended last Saturdays performance at the Town Hall in NYC. Chris Thile and Edgar Meyer are both masters of every aspect of their instruments. If they are not the best they are within the top 5 premier players in the world on Mandolin and Bass. While I've heard other projects from both artists the stuff they work on together just seems to me to be the most musical and fun to listen to. Their instruments bounce off each other like they're having a conversation (except this conversation is between Einstein and Tesla).

Getting in and out of the event was fine. Do not carry a pocket knife. Chris is a very enthusiastic performer. He cares about his audience and his fellow performers. One of his bands seemed to be a hard rock group. Not good. He is a young man who draws a young crowd. The music was not of my age or my preferred genre. So I was out of place. His comedian was not funny unless you enjoyed bashing our current President, the South and America. Much of the crowd did enjoy him, I was very much out of sync with them. There where many of us who walked out. The story telling I used to enjoy was still there but Chris was not part of it. It was weak at best. He was music only. I would check out Chris's music before you attend. Do not expect the the old Home Prairie Companion.

Two master musicians get together in the parlor, roll back the rug, and decide to make some good music. A few stories are shared. A few riffs are stolen from J.S. Bach, Charlie Parker, Bill Monroe, and Bud Powell. There is virtuosic give and take. Somehow you and a friend are lucky to share a couch and witness this. Two hours later you wonder where the time went, yet time paradoxically seemed to slow down. A better world was possible, a place for speaking thoughtfully, listening to one's fellow, having a sense of humor and playfulness, and striving to be one's best self. Town Hall mimics this experience and no two people could have filled it more fully than Mehldau and Thile. No gimmicks, no special effects, just two guys enjoying themselves and an appreciative audience.

I had been an admirer of the work of Chris Thile as a member of Nickel Creek and the Punch Brothers, but this was far and away a musical experience I will never forget. Chris Thile showed an extraordinary range of talent in Monday night's concert, playing a wide range of music, as well as singing and dancing his way into the hearts of those attending. In his Bach, he showed an excellent feel for interpretation of these pieces originally written for solo violin, making them sound as if Bach had intended them to be played on mandolin.

I have had the pleasure of seeing Chris Thile live 6 times in various capacities and each experience continues to be inspiring. I love Chris Thile, but in this concert I couldn't really hear him over the piano. It was almost like the two were in competition. Both played great, and their reputation preceeds them ... but this combo just didn't quite do it for me. I believe i would have rather of heard Chris "or" Brad ... but not the two together. Or ... turn the volume down on the piano some, so the two compliment each not, not seemingly compete with each other. I imagine I was the only one that felt like that, so this is just my .02

My wife and I are fans of Chris Thile. You would expect at a concert of his he would play some of his famous songs. Nope. Basically it was a hour and half jazz jam session. Didn't recognize any of the songs. Too bad. He has a great voice and clearly can play the mandolin. But if you are expecting to hear known works of his... don't bother. In addition the ad states solo performance. There was none of that. Duets with Brad Mehldua. Both are talented. Best piece was when the played an Irish tune.

If they play anywhere near you, go!!! For now, the only way to hear them together is to see them in person. I imagine they'll record together at some point, though. In play, each listens very attentively to the other, and the communication between them on mandolin and piano is perfectly nuanced. Their play is fun-loving, graceful, compelling, and intellectually gratifying. Added bonus: if you like Chet Baker's singing, you'll like Chris Thile's as well.

True talent but terrible crowd. Who doesn't want to move even a little to his fast paced playing?? I was given death stares for swaying and singing along with the Bob Dylan cover. Oh well, I didn't realize who serious the crowd was. Chris Thile was amazing though! I just wish I could have expressed myself better by being "allowed" to dance a little in my own space!

This was a loose, highly improvisatory set featuring seamless interplay between Chris Thile on mandolin and Brad Mehldau on piano. I have never seen Thile accompanied by a piano, which lent great dynamics and color to the arrangements. As is often the case with any Chris Thile-led enterprise, the set list featured a smart selection of songs from contemporary artists, some of whom I had expected (Radiohead, Gillian Welch), and some I hadn't (Elliott Smith, Fiona Apple). Also, there was a jazz standard in "I Cover the Waterfront," and I believe a snippet of Dizzy Gillespie's "Groovin High" (Though I am not sure about that). There was not a lot of stage banter, and in fact, the normally talkative Thile remarked that this was the least he has ever spoken on stage. As such, large portions of the set list are unknown to me. Although most folks probably don't come to see Chris Thile sing, his vocals were outstanding. He does not have the distinct timbre of a great bluegrass singer such as Ralph Stanley or Bill Monroe, but he does possess impressive range His playful and intelligent vocal phrasing on Bob Dylan's "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright" was a highlight.

All in all - music was great but crowd sucked. I took friends and was embarrassed that we were given death stares for wanting to move our boss to his sick mandolin playing.

From the first incredible note to the last, I was completed captivated by the performance that Chris Thile delivered in Durham, NC November 13 at the Caroline Theater. This is my 12th concert at which Chris has played and somehow he continues to evolve each time I hear him. His talent is so far beyond that of most musically gifted people; I always feel a bit like I am having an other-worldly experience. I am grateful that I roam this earth at the same time as Chris Thile. Hearing him play is one of life's greatest pleasures. He is a prodigy that ranks with the greats.....Mozart, Bach, Debussy and Thile.

From Back to Radiohead, Thile played for over 1.5 hours without music and without skipping a beat.

Chris Thile all grown up continues to out do his self musically and as a performer. We had perfect seats for what would have felt like an intimate performance where ever we sat. Chris performed his own songs/music, Bach, Radiohead and even Fiona Apple. Chris was solo and there was no pre performance by anybody. The time went by much too fast.

This was my third annual visit to the Raleigh area to see Chris Thile play. I did not realize he was playing "solo" but when I discovered this, I was beyond excited! I am not a traditional bluegrass listener & he is not your average bluegrass artist & that is why I love Chris so much!!! He did not dissapoint! Thile's talent is remarkable & the use he gets out of his trusty mandolin-INCREDIBLE!!! He is the reason why I even listen to bluegrass, but it has to be special & I think he is pretty special, freakishly special (and I mean that in a good way)!!

One man, one mandolin, one incredible evening. Chris Thile is the greatest musician of his generation; he played everything from Bach to covers of The Strokes to Thile's own original tunes. He is no one-trick pony, but is equally skilled in every genre he turns his hand to. His ease of manner was apparent from the moment he stepped on stage. Not only is he an amazing mandolinist, but he's also got a wicked sense of humor and is comfortable joking around with the audience. It's not hard to see that he loves what he does deep down in his soul--and he makes you love it, too.

Words cannot even express how amazing Chris Thile is in concert. The man is beyond a master at the mandolin and to watch him perform is like watching Davinci paint the mona lisa. Phenomenal!

I have never had so much fun. The concert was amazing. Such high energy and amazing talent. I have always admired Chris Thile but this concert made me realize how truely awesome both he and Michael Daves are. If you had any doubts about the musical knowledge of either of these men just sit through a round of Fiddle Tune Request Time and any doubts will fade. I saw Chris with his band Punch Brothers last year on my birthday and this year I saw him with Michael. I'm hoping to make this a tradition that I doubt will ever disappoint. The birthday hugs after the show were an added bonus.

The show was great. Michael Davies has a great voice and Chris Thile is a wonder on the mandolin. The energy and crowd interaction was great.

These two sound great together, a new approach to bluegrass that takes it back to its roots. Daves definitely brings some delta blues along with him and some intense vocals. Bluegrass fans have been waiting for Thile to dive into a bunch of bluegrass for awhile now. Five stars all the way.

Chris never fails to take my breath away but his chemistry with Michael Daves both musically and personally is something to behold. They were both incredible and the venue and crowd were perfect for their energy.

Very enjoyable show with Marcus Mumford, Corinne Bailey Rae and Trevor Noah. Chris Thile was very good in his own right as well. They revamped PHC and at least for this show dropped most of the comedy skits. Never a bad thing to have more music. Check it out on the radio and then go see a live show!

What a consummate musician! From bluegrass to alt rock covers, Bach violin sonata to post-tonal improv, Thile knocks it out of the park. One of the most enjoyable evenings of music I've ever experienced.

Chris THile , as expected, proved a marvel on the mandolin. This was of course no surprise. His technical wizardry is no studio marvel and was exercised thoroughly and prodigiously in the little college town of Murray , KY. From Bach to Bluegrass Master Mandolinist Thile played the $*^! out of his Gibson F5. What I had not expected was the level of concert intimacy that could be reached by one man with his favored instrument. His audience engagement was skillful and relaxed. When he played the Murray State fight song I was concerned for the structural integrity of the raftering in the hall. There were many "favorite" moments in the hour and a half concert that went by like a thirty minute lunch break. But I have to say his mashup of three songs called out by the audience was a great laugh. Before I finish I want to give kudos to the sound tech for a bright and clear tone for the performance. A good time was had indeed. UP/

This was my second time seeing this show and I am increasingly amazed at both the virtuosity and musicality of both of these musicians. It's like they dance together.
