The Sheepdogs

The Sheepdogs

Bluesy rockers The Sheepdogs revive the soulful sounds of yesteryear with a tasteful retro flare and a good-time stage presence all their own. Frontman Ewan Currie, whose voice is half folk balladeer and half blues howler, brings unrelenting passion to every stage as he takes listeners on an emotional journey with standouts like “The Way It Is”, “Alright OK”, and “Feeling Good”. The group’s double guitar attack switches between fuzzy riffs and jazzy chords, and their prodigious chops allow them to dynamically shift from smoking hot to icy cool without missing a beat. The rhythm section holds the band's remarkable sound together, combining skitt.

The Sheepdogs at fabulous Massey Hall in Toronto was such an energy-filled show that I don't think I quit smiling from the first chord until the last. These guys really know how to jam and their sound takes me back to my childhood listening to Santana, Led Zeppelin, Allman Brothers, and a million other cool 70s rock bands. They are so entertaining and I was amazed at how many different instruments they played. The 70s style pant suits were also very entertaining. Massey Hall has such excellent sound too. The crowd was very enthusiastic and thrilled with the performance too, which made the experience quite memorable. My husband and I flew to Toronto from Auburn, Alabama specifically to see these guys and we were NOT disappointed. Thanks for a wonderful memory, Sheepdogs!! Keep on Rockin' in the free world!!

The opening band Beat Cops and the Sheepdogs rocked the old cinema aka Guelph Concert Theatre. BIG talent, small venue. Can't get any better than that!

Love the Sheepdogs! Great Canadian band! They brought me back in time with their 70s rock sound. Their new album is fantastic and love that you can get it on vinyl. Will definitely go to their concert again.

Harpoonist and the axe murderer opened and they were amazing at getting the crowd amped for the show. Then imaginary cites came on and put every one to sleep again. But once the sheepdogs came on and picked us up it was amazing! The sheepdogs did a very good job with a good mix of popular and not so known songs. Thanks sheepdogs!

The opening band, The Harpoonist and The Axe Murderer, were absolutely awesome. They had great stage presence, especially considering it was still light out and only part of the audience had arrived, and their music was phenomenal. The Sheepdogs absolutely shredded and melted everyone's minds! They sound even better in concert than they do on their albums. The crowd was hyped up and completely engrossed in their performance.

The Sheepdogs are perhaps the only modern purveyor of something that used to have many practitioners: straight ahead, high qualtiy, progressive hard rock. Their twin lead approach is heir to everyone from the Allman Brothers to Wishbone Ash, without being derivative of any of them. They combine solid material with excellent musicianship, intricate arrangements, and a charismatic, fun-loving stage presence. They are also masters of the subtle but important art of translating good studio material to a live presentation that ups the excitement level without sacrificing the integrity of the song. Even the live sound mix was excellent (a moderately uncommon outcome, in my extensive experience). Perhaps most impressive, the overwhelming majority of the crowd was young - in their 20s - - not a bunch of "fossils" living in the past, despite the arguable fact that the Sheepdogs' style is more reminiscent of late 60s/early 70s approaches than anything current. Best show I've seen in years.

These guys have brought back a generation of music that most of us were too young to experience. If you have any interest in classic rock, you must see this band. They are fantastic live! Totally fun and entertaining the whole TWO hours they played! Tons of solos and straight jamming out in the middle of songs. I guarantee that they will not disappoint!

This was such a great event...the Bowery Ballroom is always a good space and The Sheepdogs filled each corner with their 70s-esque grooves. I brought quite a few friends with me that had never heard of them before and they all left fans.

I have loved The Sheepdogs from the first song I heard them play at the Great Escape festival in Brighton, UK and I was blown away by their show at the Bowery Ballroom in New York. Their anthemic songs, 70s sound and brilliant musicianship make them a truly special band. All the best to them!

The Sheepdogs were outstanding ! Great Show Saturday in New York City... I follow this great band since we saw them on the Jimmy Fallon show in June, 2011. We were in the audience. Great soul, and, they perform like they enjoy performing... Like Derek Jeter.. Rock on forever!!! Hope to catch them in Montreal.

By far, one of the best venues ever attended. No barricade to reach stage, and even in the back of the room, by the bar, you are close to the stage. Sound was phenominal, not too loud, right by the speaker, but loud enough to JAM OUT. The Sheepdogs were great! Not only played an amazing set and two encores, they were totally friendly and willing to talk with fans after the show. If you haven't already seen the Sheepdogs live, or been to the Bowery Ballroom...it's time to do so.

These guys played a tight set, kicking off with their hits and playing back to back songs with little interruption. They brought the energy and the crowd loved it. I saw them at Mountain Jam this summer and they were just as good. For a band that won a Rolling Stone contest, they are the real deal. Go see them.

All 3 seeds bands rocked it pretty well. Monster truck were tight and had a great sound. But the Sheepdogs were really unbeleivable! They are the epitome of rock. I swear these guys have been sent forward in time from the 70's. Its been a long time since a group has been able to harness that kind of sounds with an originality that looks, feels and sounds authentic. Very impressed. I also saw them open for Kings of Leon last month but this show's perfomance far exceeded that one. I will see them again next time they come will out a doubt!!!!
