The Who

THE WHO IN CONCERT:Rock ‘n’ roll gods The Who have always stood out from the pack with their wild onstage antics. Known for smashing guitars, swinging microphones around, jumping off amplifiers, and blowing up drum kits, the band has always represented the pinnacle of rebellious rock genius. Their larger-than-life performances are evenly matched by their huge sound, and classics like “My Generation”, “Pinball Wizard”, and “Won’t Get Fooled Again” are still played with thunderous force. For The Who Hits 50! Tour, the group is bringing their trademark monolithic grandeur and kinetic energy to stages around the world.

Quadrophenia had just been released and we piled in the car to drive 5 hours to see them in St. Louis Colisium. They blasted through the entire album without any back-up keyboards or synth, and it still sounded incredible, and then kicked into the (now) classics. They even had a quadrophonic PA. I think it was a three hour show. Moon had just collapsed at the Cow Palace in SF a few days before, but was unstoppable. They all were. So now I'm getting ready to see them play Q4 all the way through again in January. Moon and the Ox are gone but not forgotten. Based on the 7 other times I've seen the Who since that night, I don't expect anything but incredible effort and commitment and a rock tour de force. And I still love the album as much as ever. Will probably take a copy to my grave.

You know the place is full of fans. The Who shows are like that. You will see children, some as young as 5 or 6, to older folks (some of whom you pray are older than you). Most of them singing every word, and re-living their youth. The Who never disappoints. Pete Townsend is still one of the finest guitar players of all time. The energy that Roger Daltry brings to the stage is contagious. If you haven't gotten tickets to see their latest show which will feature ALL the songs from Quadrophenia, along with some other crowd favorites, I highly recommend you get one, even if you are in the cheap seats. It will be a show you will never forget.

I had great time watching the 2 remaining members of The Who do their thing back in 2008. Although the crowd at the Mohegan Sun Casino could have been more energetic, Pete and Roger made the best of things and never just went through the motions. Pete still plays very loud and with passion as does Roger with his maximum R&B singing style. These guys in mid-60's still amaze me. I can't think of any young bands that can keep up with their energy. I do hope we have not seen the last of these guys. I know Pete has some hearing issues which he is trying to work out with a new doctor. I am keeping my fingers crossed; I hope to see them again.

This was the best of the best of my bucket list of bands I wanted to see. Roger and Pete both fantastic entertainers and their voices have not faded with age, if not they have gotten better! They played for 2 hours straight without a break and WoW'd the crowed with every note that was played and sung. I would recommend to everyone to do see this band because I am going to see them again and again and again till I can't any more. Love this Band!!

A couple nights before the show The Who played on The Tonight Show and I thought Roger's voice was not very good, so my expectations for the concert were that it would be just ok. Boy was I wrong! EVERYTHING about this concert was FANTASTIC! Roger's voice was outstanding. It sounded like he was 20 again. Unbelievable how strong his voice is. Pete's playing continues to be just great, and the band as a whole just blew me away. The sound during the show was fantastic. The light show was average, but who cares about that? Anyone who gets a chance to see them on this tour, including the six nights upcoming in Vegas, will surely be in for a treat! I loved it!

As a diehard Who fan, I have been to well over 20 shows since my first Who concert in 1982 (their first farewell tour). I only wish I could have seen Keith Moon in the flesh, but Zack Starkey certainly has kept his spirit alive with his incredible drum skills. Daltrey and Townshend still have the passion to perform. Pete Townshend seemed to play with more recklessness and anger at this AC show, which brought back great memories of many old Who concerts. Daltrey sounded good for most of the show, but did struggle with the high notes on some songs. God bless him for still wanting to sing past age 70 - don't we all wish we could do that? Although some of the supporting cast changed through the years, Daltrey and Townshend are the core members that will always be The Who - my favorite band forever.

I've been going to Who concerts since 1972, probably about 75 or so at this point. Sure the boys are old, but they are pros and still know how to generate a sound that others would beg for. Pete and Roger and Zack and bandmates were full of energy and considering their ages, my god, I want to know what vitamins they are using! three generations of Who fans at the show and the material/set-list was perfect. These guys are simply amazing.

Pete and Roger together with their ensemble rocked for over two hours jamming out hit after hit with unbelievable synchronicity, great sound, and youthful energy. I first saw The Who in 1980 and this show was the bookend of a lifelong love of seeing them live in many different places, the most memorable being on September 3, 1989 in Dallas with Stevie Ray Vaughn. They are absolutely and undoubtedly the greatest live rock band of all time. LONG LIVE ROCK!!

This was my fifth time seeing the Who, I feel it was the best show ever. They played from the entire catalog, including a couple of "deep" cuts that I would have picked if I wrote the set list (The Punk Meets the Godfather, The Rock as lead in to Love Reign on me, part of the Underture from Tommy). Daltry's voice is not as strong as it once was, but everything about the performance was masterful - a true supergroup.

This concert so exceeded my expectations. Roger and Peter are still fantastic stage performers. Peter with his arm wind guitar strokes and Roger stretching and swinging his microphone around. Sound was fantastic and powerful along with the message sent. Set list was one memory after another. They are both still charming and still look like they are having a blast. Ringo Starr's son, the drummer, Zak Starkey, is fabulous. The drummer is such a big part of this band, they are lucky to have him. Simon, Jon, Loren, John and Frank, the tour band, all made for a great show. An amazing, talented group of musicians.

The Who continues to impress as the quintessential super group. Played with an impressive command of the audience and musical performance. Fortunate to have seen Townsend perform upon his 72nd birthday and wish him and the group all the best. All performers were at their best for a nearly packed house most of whom stood for the entire night. Tight audio and visuals. Kudos to the light and sound team This is the one not to miss if you have the chance.

Tremendous show. After enduring the terrible lighting and audio quality offered up by the opening gig, The Who started out at 8:45 pm with Who Are You and the 18,000 fans erupted in appreciation. About 9:15 pm, the sound guys turned up the volume and the light guys stopped shining bright lights at the audience and the concert excelled. Vocals were crisp. The drums were plexiglass-shielded which led to terrific percussion audio. The Townsend Brothers were fantastic and played in concert with each other all night. Fantastic and psychedelic light patterns augmented the legend of the band's music. Not a screw up all night as The Who demonstrated why they are one of the top 5 rock bands of all time. SlyDigs opened the show. True to tradition, the sound guys kept lid on the backup band's audio quality. What was new was how the light guys bungled SlyDig's lighting. OK, I get the LED lights are cheap and that ANYBODY can put together a lighting show. But why tease the audience with sophisticated kaleidoscopic light patterns when bright yellow lights were being shined into the audience's eyes? This was distracting, amateurish, bumble gummy and mickey mouse. Clearly, the band was being paid to show up and be the 2nd fiddle to the lighting show.

Did not know what to expect after seeing the Superbowl Performance. Thought the vocals were amazing given Roger and Pete's age. Took my 17 year old son knowing this was the last time they would ever tour and the played every song you could want. Pete was fantastic sharing stories and engaging the audience. World class band behind them and lots of Who connections. Really enjoyed the flip side of them plugging a charity and giving much of the profit to Shriners and Teens with Cancer, that was refreshing when most artist are all about themselves.

It's been over 30 years since I saw The Who on their "first" farewell tour. Fortunately, it wasn't the end at that time, but I do believe this time they mean it. And it's not because they don't still have the heart and the musicianship they once had, it's simply because giving 100% night after night simply cannot work forever when you've been doing it as long as they have. Both Pete and Roger were having the times of their life. Pete full of energy, doing his signature windmill guitar playing. Roger was swinging the microphone with vigor, as usual. You could tell they loved the crowd, and the crowd responded. Engaging, full of heart, and the sound is still incredible. Are they the power trio they once were? No, they have help filling out the notes with other musicians, and Roger struggled at times hitting all the notes, but it didn't matter, because they gave everything they had, and for The Who, that is plenty.

Go ahead and purchase the VIP experience. You'll never have an opportunity like this again as you get to go to a pre-show sound check, have a pre-show party and get first class seats to an event that can only be described as amazing. The work the performers do to put on a concert is seen during the sound check and I'll never take that for granted again. The respect that Daltrey and Townsend have for each other, as well as the audience is noticeable. The other musicians (including Zak Starkey) were spot on. Been to several shows at every tour since 1967/68. This show was amongst the best. Saw them destroy instruments at Madison Square Garden in 1976 and then reset the stage and play for another hour. The only time they ever did that no one would leave! . Saw the Quadrophenia show last year that ended abruptly when Pete's ear hurt. (Disappointing) saw the hard rock show where Roger had a sore throat and they cut short show after buying 8 tix at $350., I wasn't to happy. But I love the WHO and kept coming back. Have seen them about 50 times since the beginning and this show was fabulous. All in rare form! The set list was great. Zac, Pino and Simon are great. They Even did a couple rarities like "a quick one" "sparks". Only thing I woulda loved to see again was old staple "Tatoo" which I don't think they do anymore. It's one of my favs. I know they deliberately left out Quadrophenia cause they just did a Quad tour. But I always love 5:15. They more than compensated with Eminence Front. Would of loved a never done "goin Mobile" if this is really the end. It was very poignant when Pete said "this is the end of our careers" I cut school at 12 to see them and the Cream open for Mitch Ryder at Murray the K at the Beacon in NYC. Saw them open for the Doors in '68 at the Singerbowl in Flushing (Queens) when the new album was Magic Bus. I also saw them rule at Woodstock in 1969. Like I said. I've seen them a million times And this show was as great as any. They're going out in top form if so! Bye bye Pete! It's been a great rocking time.....

Great show! Waited my whole life to watch those guys play. Pete and Roger still got the punch. Missed John and Keith but Pino and Zak (as well well as the rest of the band) did a great job.

The who are, as always, amazing. Great choice of material, most of it older. The only problem with Joan Jett is that her set was too short.

As a true fan of The Who since my first concert in 1968 this show was truly an Amazing Journey. The sound quality and visual experience were second to none. But the real joy came from listening and watching Pete and Roger really enjoying their performanance. This show was second to none !!!

The musical talent of the entire band was outstanding. Townsend plays the guitar with his usual reckless abandon and goes off on more than a couple occasions. Daltrey, though not 28 anymore, still can belt out acceptable vocals even on some of the tougher harder songs. Stage show was top notch and impressive. The Who do not disappoint. Highly recommended.

We were lucky enough to get front center tickets at the fan club pre-sale and you can't go wrong being 8 feet from Pete and Roger. The guys were at their finest tonight, they had a couple of months rest and it showed.Rogers voice was as good as it's ever been and Pete was in a good mood which makes the show.I've seen him in a bad mood where they just seem to want to get it over with and get out of Dodge. They all seemed to be having a great time.

This legendary band is on their last tour. I'm SO honored to have been there. Pete and roger sounded as if they were in their 30's, it was absolutely incredible. The crowd, although an older lot, were loud and great! Joan jett, is a hero of mine. Honestly, she sounded amazing. Everything was there- the rawness, the personality, the whole deal. Through the he entire show I remained in a state of awe. This concert was worth every penny.

Great concert. The legendary Who still rocks it with their fantastic classic rock, a great light show and perfect sound. Pete Townsend and Roger Daultry hold their own as rock icons. The setlist covered many of their greatest USA hits. They worked hard performing non stop for 2 hours and the crowd loved them.

Opening act Stephen Roth was really good. Elvis came out on fire and carried it through his whole set never letting up Hit after hit. He ended with a Who cover. His voice was spot on and his band tight. The who came out and showed they have not missed a beat after all these years. Still one of the best touring bands around. would see them again if they do another tour

The Who show it self was very good. Staff was very good at getting us seated, Sound and lighting was good, Enjoyed the show except for there was a notice posted by the Who not to smoke as the lead singer has a serious allergy to smoke in our section {2}we caught the sent of pot smoke this led to an allergic reaction that forced him to leave the stage for about a half hour prior to that I did not see an aggressive attempt by staff to stop the smoking .The issue I have with the venue/staff was that we were given given a guest pass and a VIP pass from a main band member of the Who.After the show we were allowed into the lounge area, then one us were told to leave saying one of the passes wasn't acceptable. We tried to explain. They wouldn't listen. With this I would reconsider going to future events in Manchester.

Really good show! I've seen the band a few times before, though never in their heyday. And the last couple times were disappointing. So I wasn't planning on going. But a good friend wanted to, and I did still have a Ticketmaster gift card that her son (my godson) and her daughter had given me; so I grabbed tickets. Glad I did! Roger's voice was much better than the last couple tours, and Pete still has it. And since I've heard most of the classics before, it was nice to see them perform the entire Quadrophenia album. They did a few of the standards after (Who Are You, Baba O'Riley, Pinball Wizard, Behind Blue Eyes, Won't Get Fooled Again). They didn't do My Generation, which is a good thing. Something about 10,000 baby boomers singing "hope I die before I grow old" that seems to miss the point.

First time seeing an event at the MSG Theater. Also a first for Elvis Costello and The Who. Although not a Who freak, their show was excellent and Am glad I attended. Elvis Costello was amazing (big fan long time). I look forward to his returned to the NY area and hope it is at the Theater because there is not a bad seat in the house.

What a finish to their Quadrophenia tour. Previous shows at Barclays Center in Brooklyn & at Nassau Coliseum on Long Island last week were great, but Elvis Costello was a dynamite addition this time! Small venue was a plus, the set list was like a handpicked greatest hits (exactly what the people wanted!) and the band did not make too many sad references about their cause for Teen Cancer America. Roger Daltrey did a good job of explaining the program at the end of the show and further donations were not solicited which was appreciated as a music lover. Oh, and a fantastic bass, keyword and horn ensemble, along with Zak Starkey (Ringo's son) and Simon Townshend (Pete's brother). The addition of 'The Kids Are Alright' and 'You Better You Bet' was touching and uplifting. Thank you Ticketmaster, Madison Square Garden, Elvis Costello & The Who for a great experience!

Roger Daltrey sounded better than ever, Pete Townshend was as great as ever, Zak Starkey proved once again that he's the only one capable of filling Keith Moon's shoes. With Roger turning 69 tomorrow, they continue to amaze, dazzle and entertain like no one else before them, and are without a doubt the greatest rock band of all time. I knew I was in the presence of greatness. LONG LIVE ROCK; LONG LIVE THE WHO!!!!!

I took my youngest daughter, and what a show! I had high expectations, as I read previous reviews about this tour, and it has been noted that The Who have been fantastic. They were more than fantastic! At 68 and 69, to be able to rock the house the way Pete and Roger did was outstanding. Quadrophrenia has always been one of my 2 favorite albums, (yes, albums) with Born to Run in a tie with Quadrophrenia. I LOVED how they told the story, with seemless transitions between songs, with supporting video. When your 17 year old daughter is singing along with EVERY song, you know you raised your kids right! After a stellar performance of Quadrophrenia, we were treated with "Who are You", which to me, symbolically, was the PERFECT song choice. I had 5th row seats in 1979, when I was a student at Providence College, and Buddy "the convict" Cianci ruined my show in 1979. Horribly, 11 people died in a stampede in Cinncinati, which had festival seating. The Providence Civic Center was the first scheduled show after the tragedy, and our show had assigned seating. Hundreds of us protested, to no avail. The show was done...for 33+ years. In 79, we would have been treated to much of "Who Are You". It only took 33+ years to hear it in Providence. Then, we practically heard almost half of "Who's Next", which was Rolling Stone Magazine's album of the decade (For the 70's of course). Starkey was absolutely stellar, and his dad's relationship with Keith Moon just makes it even more special. Pete's brother, Simon, really is a star, along with Starkey.... The horn section was terrific, but, I think the soundboard person could have brought them forward a little more. The mid-show video tributes to Keith and John Entwistle truly were emotional and magical. The show ended with the surviving original members tradition of Tea & Theatre, which many people think is about The Who, but it is really about a relationship. However, they did "do it all", and they "are older now", and "All of us sad"...only because the concert was over.

What can be said about the Who that hasn't been said before? Roger and Pete are stellar as always. Keith Moon and John Entwhistle are both deceased however the show was augmented by extensive footage of them doing what they did best. The show was well done, I enjoyed the "second half" that had covered more of the Who's popular hits and a bit less of Quadrophenia. All told, worth every penny. Townshend hit ever RIFF and every chord on the money. Roger's voice and stage presence was outstanding. I did feel a bit bad for Roger. No smoking was a given and unfortunately he had to remind many patrons that this was the case. PS Vintage Trouble is outstanding for an opening band. They are or will be headliners.

For a band that has been around since the 60s, it was just amazing. The sound and visuals were awesome. Roger and Pete can still belt out the music! The crowd stood for their entire performance. It was definitely worth the trip in the snow to get there....

The Who was an unforgettable performance. Roger Daltry and Pete were so good. Tey played the whole quadrophenia album and then did a 5 encore song set. When they played Baba O'Riley Boardwalk Hall was so loud. When Pete sang don't cry... The whole arena was singing. One of the greatest nights ever

One hell of a show! The Who is still culturally and politically relevant. The imagery, the lights, the band members all in sync and awesome! I'm hopeful to see them again, but maybe not on a Quadrophenia tour...just because I wasn't as familiar with those songs as I am the others. Still enjoyable, though.

I'll start by saying we had a few hours drive to and from the concert. Not bad of course unless it was all in a blizzard. Horrible, horrible travel. We debated not going due to the weather; but heading out 6 hours early and went for it. So glad we did. This show was just incredible. Let's face it, the Who are a rock sensation. They haven't lost it all these years later. Daltrey was spot on up to the last couple songs. Voice seemed a little strained at the end. He was great and still hot!! Pete was as good as he was years ago. Zak on the drums was crazy good.. Like father, like son. The visuals of old pics was pretty neat. All in all this was a fantastic, not to be missed concert

Roger actually is sounding better than he did 5 years ago. Amazing show. 90+ minutes of Quadrophenia without a break. I can't name any other show in the past 30 years that I have seen do that! Pete is amazing as usual. The highlights were with John and Keith's "Live" contributions. Simply amazing and brought a tear to my eye. I drove 3 hours to see the show with 5, 17 year-olds. This was an experience they, and I, will never forget!

The VIP experience was good not great as the area where we ate dinner was too cramped. Food was excellent though ! The sound check was cool except we were all herded in like cattle and had to sit basically on top of each other, instead of spreading out to wherever we wanted to sit. Someone needs to revise this as most of us are adults and don't need ushers for seating. The whole venue was empty at this time so what's the harm in sitting wherever we wanted. One other thing, a meet & greet with the band members would have been exceptional as we had paid top dollar for our tickets!! Other than that, the band was excellent, even the opening act band before the Who was great!!

I am so happy that I went to this concert. I's one of the best I've been to. It was a complete experience. An amazing show, they sound incredible! I got there late and I missed the opening show but luckily we got in just before The Who came out, I was afraid I wasn't gonna make it but we got in very quick, got a parking spot right away even though the place was packed. I'm in a wheelchair, the accessibility there is good, I got reassigned to the handicap section immediately, had a good place. The staff were very helpful.

The show was Great. The Who put on a "Show" not just a concert. If anyone has the chance to see this GO!!! They played the whole Quadrophenia Soundtrack with Keith Moon on the screen behind them singing Bell Boy, John Entwistle was also featured on an amazing classic Bass Solo. Then they played an encore set of their hits which had everyone on their feet. The whole band was amazing, Pete Townsend was right on, Roger Daltry did it again, Zak Starkey is unbelievable. Pete Townsend's brother is also playing guitar with the band. Just go see the show if you have the chance you won't be disappointed.
