Deep Purple

Deep Purple

British hard rock pioneers Deep Purple hold the distinction of being named "the globe's loudest band" by the Guinness Book of World Records, with no signs of quieting down nearly half a century after their debut. Widely acknowledged as one of the hardest touring bands in rock and roll, Deep Purple continue to bring an impressive wall of sound to their live shows, powering through epic anthems like "Smoke on the Water" and "Black Night" with the same vigor and energy that carried them to superstardom in the early '70s. Riding high on the 2013 release of their 19th studio album Now What, the band will live up to their reputation with another high-octane tour in 2014.BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:Formed in the late '60s as a supergroup comprised of several notable British musicians, Deep Purple made their album debut in 1968 with Shades of Deep Purple.

With all due respect, Deep Purple could not match the energy and entertainment level of Alice Cooper. They just suffered by contrast, especially in the last slot. Evidence for me was the crowd stood for the entire Alice Cooper set, and were sitting down by thr time Deep Purple got to their third song. Granted, this was a middle age+ crowd, but Deep Purple was just a beat slow all night. The youth of Alice Cooper's band and his emphasis on showmanship really dominated the evening.

It was classic, historic hard rock at its best. Edgar Winter opened with Free Ride and finished with Frankenstein and gave an entertaining performance that won over the crowd in between. Alice provided his usual showmanship that had the crowd on their feet from start to finish, closing with School's Out while mixing Billion Dollar Babies, Poison, Eighteen and Under My Wheels in with some new releases. Deep Purple provided their progressive (45 yrs ago) hard rock. The energy sagged a bit after Alice Cooper but everyone was up as they finished with Hush and Smoke on the Water. An amazing triple play of classic rock!

Deep Purple continue to impress with their classic catalog of rock standards. The show ran the gamut, from Hush, through classic Purple and included some of the newer, recently released material. Backed by a full orchestra, the interplay was well done especially during "Contact Lost" as Steve Morse's guitar soared between the instruments and allowed for the full emotional effect of the piece. Save for a couple of drunken louts seated directly behind us, who would not shut up for the entire show, everyone seemed to really enjoy themselves and I for one was glad to see the band again. Don't miss the tour if you haven't seen them for awhile, you won't be disappointed!!

These guys are still amazing. I was very surprised when I saw this show on the schedule and wasn't sure what to expect. In fact I didn't even realize they were still pIaying together. I pulled out my Deep Purple albums and CD's and brushed up before the show. These guys can still rock. Maybe Ian can't hit and hold some of the high notes like he used to but then who can at that age. He's still sounds good and it looks like they are having fun. Glover plays a mean bass and Pace was tireless. I figured I would miss the sound of Blackmore and Lord a lot but Morse and Airey are shoe-ins, adding their own style to the mix. The orchestra added a different dimension which was rather interesting, but when the band played Highway Star, SpaceTruckin', Hush, and Woman From Tokyo...I was in my glory. I would definitely go to see them again if they came back.

Excellent performance!!! DEEP PURPLE STILL ROCKS AFTER ALL THESE YEARS!! Everything was right on, the sound was loud, crisp and clear. The orchestra seemed to fill things out, but Deep Purple played so well you almost didnt even know the orchestra was behind them. Would definetely recommend seeing then and would even consider going again if they are in the local area!!!

As I never had the opportunity to see Purple in their prime, I was still excited that I had this opportunity to see them. I had excellent seats (12th row center) so I had a very good vantage point to judge the show. The overall performance by Purple was mediocre at best. Ian Gillian should hang it up. During every single song whenever there was a moment of non-vocals, he would stumble back stage and then return to the stage just in time to start the next vocal part. The songs that had long verses in them, he would only sing parts of them as he did not have the steam to do the whole thing. I will say when he did sing it sounded pretty good. The guitarist was just okay, bass very good and drums were excellent. I am glad I got to see them but was disappointed in the performance overall.

Deep Purple have been one of my favourite bands for years. The band smoked! The musicianship in this band is impeccable! They really featured Steve Morse & Don Airey quite a bit, & they were on top of their game! I'm a big Ritchie Blackmore & Jon Lord fan too, but I don't think you could find two better replacements than Mr.'s Morse & Airey. Roger Glover had tons of energy & Ian Paice was his usual impeccable self as well. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was Ian Gillan. It pains me to say that because he is one my all time favourite singers, but you could tell this is getting tougher on him. I give him credit for getting up there & doing what he does, but he's over 60 yrs old . Robert Plant & some others his age can't hit those high notes & screams anymore either. Still he had a great sense of humour & stage persona. Still really enjoyed the concert & the orchestra was fantastic as well

I saw Deep Purple in Toronto, six years ago, and today they sound as cohesive as ever! Yes, i miss Blackmore but Morse is as genius as always...i have had the fortune to see his show many times and he always...always delivers...yes I miss Lord...but his shoes has been left in good feet and hands! ian delivering his drums reminds me of one of the reasons why heavy rock came to the scene with his particular signature...loved it! Roger...he looks and acts as young as back in '75...i love his energy and kinestetics...and yes, Ian is still there! Wow! after all this years he is the professional of professionals. Yes, his voice is gone, but his heart is still there and hope will be there until he dies...because if I had his fortune I would keep doing what he is doing until the day I die...what a gig! Thank you Deep Purple....keep rocking...and hope to see you all again... Caciopeia

first of all the pacific amphitheatre is an excellent venue for gigs (a word industry people use for concerts, me being a stage lighting designer/director), and I always have a great time there, I have seen blue oyster cult several times and they always put on an amazing performance but it had been 40 years since the cal jam that I had seen deep purple so I was really excited to see them again and they didn't disappoint me, it was like they hadn't lost a beat and rocked that place to the ground...

DEEP PURPLE: THE ONLY OFFICIAL L.A. CONCERT REVIEW FROM THE GREEK THEATRE. 06/24/11. WRITTEN BY BARRY. EDITED AND APPROVED BY ROB. Well, this performance is now history. I will give you my impressions without lapsing too much into armchair criticism. After all, this iconic band has entertained millions and managed to weather 40 plus years of evolution...I suppose the important factor is whether or not it was entertaining...for the most part, it was... The band is still pretty tight. Roger was particularly animated throughout the entire show, bouncing and bopping about with a big grin....very much enthusiasm. Paice was strong and tight, Steve's performance was pretty much what one has come to expect and Don (while no Lord) also did pretty much what one has come to expect as well....and then there is Gillan. One must admire Ian's stamina (what is left, that is). He seems much thinner, hair cropped short (grey) and somewhat frail. He very often left the stage (through a center exit) after a vocal passage to appear back onstage to continue. He has slowed a great deal and his physical limitations has robbed him of the power he once commanded. Most times his vocal phrasing was without sustain and although he was brave enough to attempt a short scat with Steve, perhaps it should have been skipped...he was gravelly and off key. I believe a few of the numbers were played in a different key to allow Ian's voice to sing in a lower register (I may be wrong on this but it seemed that way). Of course the higher register phrasing was allowed to trail off (virtually) without sound but (come on)..., this is not 1971. The set list was fine, giving representation to the many incarnations of the band (excepting the Hughes/Coverdale years of course). One's satisfaction with the current arrangements (orchestral and otherwise) hinge upon one's conditioning to traditional arrangements, musical education and tolerance for imagination and change... I was not fond of the orchestra's intro...sounded like a 40's Harlem nightclub bop when the band came onstage and launched into Highway Star. It was immediately clear Ian's vocals were going to be subdued throughout. For me, the best numbers musically were Rapture Of The Deep, No One Came, Perfect Strangers [the ending should have been more powerful ("I don't want to taste your poison...", fade out)], Space Truckin', Smoke On The Water (the audience vocal was loud and clear...we were all singing at the tops of our voices), Hush and Black Night. The audience was supportive and enthusiastic throughout. It was pretty much a full house at The Greek...the sound mix was good. Rogers bass solo had oomph, Don's keyboard solo was all over the place from Bach to showtunes and ragtime, Steve's solo was familiar as a lead-in to Perfect Strangers and there was no allowance made for an extended Paice drum solo (just a very short flurry). Our seats were very good, great proximity and close enough to get Roger's guitar pick after Black Night concluded. Roger really got some forward momentum to fling the very last one at US... which deflected off a seat in the row before us. When the lights came on we were better able to see it and scoop it up. As usual\u2026 Another memorable evening with some wild and crazy guys. In attendance were: Rob, Barry, Mike and Jess.

Deep Purple IS and WILL BE Always DEEP PURPLE !!. The show was so good. I know it was not one the best Purple's shows (years count) but The prerformance was so really good!. I especially enjoyed the ilumination. About the music, everybody knows that Deep Purple Excels the best in REAL ROCK!!! Words are unnecessary beacuse the FEELING is soo DEEP....PURPLE. The synphonic orchestra was at the exact tempo. I expected a much more dynamic crowd, people were a little bit "quite" for the show. Other agreed with my opinion. It was a show that I will not forget!

This was my 10th Deep Purple show - spanning the UK and US - and one of the best I have seen. We had the chance to meet Ian Gillan before the show - he was a kind host and great with my two kids (11 and 10) who were understandably quite awed. The support band Ernie and the Automators rocked and, since they included a couple of former members of Boston, we were treated to More Than A Feeling and a medley of other Boston hits. However, when Deep Purple came out, they really did a great job. This tour features a symphony orchestra and brass band in the background and, amazingly I think, a new one in each town, so the show IS the rehearsal. Very impressive. The show was a great combination of recognizable classics and some deeper cuts - great to hear Hard Lovin' Man from In Rock and No One Came from Fireball, although I think these are less well known to the casual fan. They played virtually all of Machine Head (only Pictures of Home, featured heavily in early tours with Steve Morse, omitted) and then the usual cadre of rockers, including Perfect Strangers, Knocking At Your Back Door, Black Night and Hush. About 1 hour and 50 minutes, solid show and good sound, although Ian was hard to hear at times. Surprised there were no songs from Purpendicular apart from the instrumental Well Dressed Guitar - would have loved to hear Ted or Screaming. Still, my kids enjoyed it as did I. Well worth a spring evening. I'd give it 5 stars for the band's performance. The only thing that would have made this better would have been if there had been a little more crowd control (quite a few drunk people falling all over the place and a few fights in front of my 10 year old), and if the rest of the band had been willing to stay out backstage a bit longer and sign autographs - there seemed to be quite a rush to bundle them in a van and get them out of there.

Great show at Fox Theater in Detroit! Deep Purple set Detroit on fire with the best line up of their hits, great solos by Ian Paice, Roger Glover, Don Airey, and Steve Morse, and Ian Gillan's voice still rings out as one of rock's most unique voices. The band mostly played songs that changed rock music for the better: Highway Star, Space Trucking, Smoke on the Water, Perfect Strangers, Black Night, Rapture of the Deep -- just to name a few. Hard Lovin' Man from Deep Purple in Rock (1970) was a surprise, but they sounded good! I also like the orchestra, too, but were often just background except for some of the quieter pieces or when playing with Airey or Morse (on "the well-dressed guitar"). If you are seriously into serious rock music, get a copy of their Concerto and Gemini Suite. The conductor played violin in Lazy -- one of Deep Purple's "musical surprises -))) but if you like Deep Purple, you must like musical humor. More of Deep Purple's newer music (with Morse and Airey) should be played on American rock stations! They can show rock fans what fine rock music is. Deep Purple is not just about classics--they are just as contemporary as the younger bands you hear more on radio these days. Surely, Blackmore and Lord have been definitive, but Morse and Airey are just as good, and hats off to their technique! This band is still about virtuoso playing that maybe only few can beat. I have been a fan since 5th grade in 1978 and hope to see more of them including their next album! Keep it going, guys -- you rock!

Saw Deep Purple at the Beacon Theatre on Tuesday evening. The Opening act was a nice surprise, a band name Ernie and the Automatics. The guitar player and drummer were originally in Boston so they ended with a medely from their 1st album and they sounde Great! Deep Purple put on a Tremedous show playing a lot of favorites backed by an orchestra. I had seen deep purple quite a few times since I first saw them in the late 60's and while Steve Morse is a Great guitar player there is Only One Ritchie Blackmore. I can only assume that Steve doesn't really want to try and sound like Blackmore because he makes no effort to do so. I fell in Love with the sound of Ritchies strat and can't get past that.

The absolute surprise of the evening was the opening act "Ernie and the Automatics."Comprised of members of Boston,RTZ,Beaver Brown Band & J.Giles Band.Their original material was stellar.Last song of their set was a 20 minute medley of Boston songs off the first album. It was a very pleasant treat and most suitable opening act for the giants of metal Deep Purple, backed by an orchestra, came out blistering.Opened with Highway Star.Ian Gillan, still has a great voice and he was not afraid to use it.Roger Glover and Ian Paice, laid down the torrid rythm. Steve Morse, has really come to fill the void left by Richie Blackmore. His lead guitar work was every bit as mesmerizing but he adds another dimension to the Deep Purple sound.

Deep Purple did a fine job but they are unfortunately showing their age. Alice Cooper basically out shined them in every way. This concert was too good to pass-up! Edgar Winter, i never had the chance to see him in concert so, i figured, this might be my last chance. If you can believe it, i saw Edgar Winter on MID-NIGHT SPECIAL! Featuring the the ever-popular Wolfman Jack! Edgar was in prime form. Edgar played "Free-ride", Frankenstein, and other blues, rock hits! Alice once again proves he still owns the stage for his showmanship! His band was very tight! Alice brought in a female guitarist from L.A. & her guitar was on FIRE! She KILLED IT! Alice, the showman he is, had his usual on-stage preformance down to a skilled art. I never get tired of seeing him in concert. Deep Purple put on a classic show. Going all the way back to Hush, Space Truckin' mixing in some of their post Richie Blackmore era & some of their very lastest material. I was disappointed that they didn't do anything from their recent CD WHAT NOW I feel that was a really classic Deep Purple that was a strong a their classic material. Smoke on the Water, with the video, was a highlight of the show. This may have been Deep Purple's last tour. So, if it is, i got to see their last show. But,maybe not. With the way classic rockers are still playing one never knows how long the "old school rockers" will play. We can only hope the "youngsters" will realize how good classic music is and "Carry On" the tradition. Carry On is a song from C.S.N.Y. lets hope the youngsters are smart enough to realize how "classic" classic music is!!!

It was an absolutely beautiful night for a concert and all 3 bands put on a show! I have seen them all in their heyday of the 70's and they performed every bit as good that night. Edgar Winter was amazing with some new spin on his classics. I closed my eyes and thought it was 1973 all over again when Alice Cooper played and his new lead guitar player was awesome. And last but not least, Deep Purple sounded like they could still be considered "the loudest rock band on record!" All in all, it was an amazing night!

Edgar Winter was "good", Tobaco Road was way too long. Alice Cooper was fantastic as usual. Played many classics and a few new songs that were good also. Deep Purple was very dissappointing. They were there to sell the new album period. If you like the post Richie Blackmore music, you'll love the show. However if you're a Deep Purple purist you will be dissapointed and wonder why they only played 2 or 3 Blackmore era songs - which to me define the success of Deep Purple. The current crew seems intent on killing that part of their history.

I found the concert outstanding. Edgar Winter was fantastic and his set was a showcase of his talent and energy. My first time to see him and he certainly did not disappoint. Great opener. Alice is still Alice. Great and talented showman who's shows have never disappointed me and always leave me wanting more. His band is spot on and just a pure joy to watch. Deep Purple played their great songs but both Gillian and Glover seemed tired. Glover still has his great smile, fantastic chops and enjoys what he's doing. Gillian obviously doesn't have his younger range, and who could, but he still has that great sound. Ian Paice still has it and continues to use it throughout the show. Though no one could replace Jon, their keyboardist showed talent beyond measure and was a joy to watch.

My wife and I love to see Alice Cooper is it is not only entertaining but also pure Theatre. We have seen Tom Petty and he has the greatest music but Alice Cooper mixes his wonderful music with entertaining theater. Nothing Compares with an Alice Cooper show. Though we have seen him many times he changes things enough to make us want to go back again and again. So attend one of his concerts and raise your fist in cheer school's out!

Great show other than the sound for Ian Gillan and they played for just over sixty minutes. I remember watching them in 1973 when one song Space Truckin' was over twenty minutes long. Ian looked like he wasn't feeling well and he looks a lot older than the last time I saw Purple in 2015. Very pleased to have seen them on possibly their last US tour.

Edgar Winter is still going strong & plays his keyboard, the drums, & horn. Alice Cooper is still quite the showman & put on an elaborate theatrical show. Deep Purple put on a great show...loved the old favorites. Had to see them on their "The Long Goodbye Tour" in support for their 20th studio album, Infinite (even though I am not "in love" with most of the new songs from the new album). Deep Purple is touring, as it has done since 2002, with its 'MK VIII' line-up: Ian Gillan vocals, Steve Morse guitars, Roger Glover bass, Ian Paice drums, & Don Airey keyboards. Everybody is getting old, just like me!

I had no idea Edgar Winter was opening and when he came out on stage I was shocked how amazing he still sounds. Then when Alice Cooper performed his twisted show of awesomeness I couldn't keep my eyes off the stage. Deep Purple rocked the house, playing a nice long fantastic set with all the hits and some of the older stuff.

This was one of the best concerts I've been to if not the best. All of the top songs from over the decades with some new ones off his new Album, Paranormal. There was no lack of energy or theatrics as one might think. This was a loud, exciting and fun show for all. Backed by a strong and talented band, including the electric Nita Strauss, Alice Cooper is still Alice Cooper.

Really good seats!! Center of 2nd row. Edgar Winter was excellent. Alice Cooper was amazing. Have seen Alice many times back to 1973, and Hollywood Vampires. Just keeps getting better and better. His current band is just superb. 4th time seeing Deep Purple so we well know they are excellent. One of the best of all time. They had sound problems that never got fixed BUT still a good show. Trouble hearing Ian singing.

I have seen Mark VII and Mark VIII, 8 times (4x in Australia, 3x in England and I FINALLY got see see them in the U.S.A. after a Road Trip from Denver. Every time they were able to work the crowd into a manic frenzy. Phenomenal musicians, tight, improvs so you never know what the hell that they will do next, and they just smash you right in the face with that classic Deep Purple sound. They are the best Rock act that I have ever seen.

I had the opportunity to see this MAGNIFICENT band yet once again. It was an honor to see them. 4 of the members I had seen before, 3 with as members of Deep Purple and 1 as a member of another well known band back in 1982. I saw Deep Purple in 1985. The one I had not seen before was Steve Morse except in videos. ALL MEMBERS ARE ASTONISHING. Best part, I got to enjoy this with my oldest son (25) and he has a new and better appreciation for Deep Purple :). He took me for my late bday present. I would recommend this show to EVERYONE, I just wish it wouldn't have been a 21 or older event, my daughter ( 7 y/o ) loves the music and has named Deep Purple ( amongst other bands ) in 3 notes, when she hears them (and yes I would have provided hearing protection for her). My youngest son (24) would have loved it too :). To Ian, Ian, Roger, Don, and Steve - I wish you many more years of ROCKING!

The band played in an intimate type setting, encouraging the crowd to gather up front, no thrills stage, tearing through the classics and new material. Reminded me a lot of the 72 Denmark dvd available, each member with their equipment and doing their thing. Just a great show!

Deep Purple still has it! wow, what a great concert! They played for about 2 hours and played many of the classics (Space Truckin, Perfect Strangers, etc.). They played some newer things also. Vincent Price, others from NOW WHAT? They were fabulous. The organ player would make Jon Lord fell proud! The originals in Purple from the sixties (Paice, Gilliam, Glover) are as fresh as ever? This for the concert and state fair ($35.00) was a bargain. I didn't care for Nazareth. They were very loud and just didn't move me. So, If you have the chance to see Deep Purple! GOOOO!

I saw Deep Purple Last night in Lynn Mass, It was a GREAT show. If you get a chance go see them you won't be disappointed. They played Highway Star, Space Trucken,' Lazy, The Mule, Hard Loving Women, Perfect Strangers, Smoke On The Water, Vincent Price, Strange Kind Of Women, Women From Tokyo, Hush, and more, There where Guitar Solos (Steve Morris) and licks a plenty, Organ Solos (Don Airey), Drum (Ian Pace), and Base Solos (Roger Glover), And they just jammed on every song, You know how they are, they do not play a song like on the album they turn them into jams and vehicles for their musical excellence. Ian Gillian was is great voice, even the screems were still there.

Class act, great music! This was my first time seeing Deep Purple, and I was stunned at the richness of the music, and the great showmanship. Before they came on stage, the sound system pumped out Holsts' The Planets Symphony, with Mars, Bringer of War. Great way to start! They all looked like they were having fun, and had fun jamming. I cannot say it enough: the music is incredible. Deep, rich, complex. Deep Purple has a new life-long fan! Steve Morse--amazing guitarist. Amazing. And he is so cute: he smiles broadly the whole time, like he is enjoying this all more than we are. This is a guy who loves what he does. One point of contention: I paid for the Meet & Greet, which was a lot of money. Ian Gillian, lead singer, was not available. Why?? The other four: Don Airey, Steve Morse, Ian Paice (original band member) and Roger Glover, all came out, shook hands, posed for pics. But not Ian G? The fab 4 were gracious, friendly, down to earth--really nice guys! Thank you DEEP PURPLE! You rocked our night and you sound incredible! Great show!

This review is probably biased as Deep Purple was the first rock band I ever listened too almost 40 years ago and never had a chance to see on stage before! That being said, those guys are between 60 and 70 and they still rock. I think I would have preferred to have Ritchie Blackmore as a guitarist because the way he plays reminds more of the albums I liked but Steve Morse is an amazing guitar player. Anyway just seeing 3 legends (Paice, Glover and Gillan) on stage was enough for me to give a 5 stars rating, they are all 3 still amazing despite the fact that Ian Gillan was kind of leaving the stage and coming back on a regular basis. Keep Rocking guys!

We are all the way from Manchester in the UK and were only visiting Universal for 3 days. It just so happened that one of my dad's favourite bands was playing the Hard Rock Live during those 3 days so I took him for a late Father's Day present. We both thoroughly enjoyed it and I didn't get a word out of my dad for the whole set!!! The only thing I would say, and this is a reflection on the venue and not the band, is make sure you take PLENTY of money if you're going to be drinking. $22 for 2 beers is extortionate. Needless to say I told him to make it last. Haha

If I said this was one of my all time favorite gigs would you believe me? Well it was, I've been to over 300 and I don't care what you think so there we go. Classic Purple sounds, obviously minus Blackmore, but seriously you can't go wrong. Strange Kind of woman, Black Night, Hush, Somke on the Water, Perfect Stangers, Lazy and many more. With a great line up of Gillan, Glover, Paice, Airey and Morse it could only be awesome.

Three bands, in one concert. With free parking, too! The $12 beers were expensive but they were 24 ounces. Everyone had a great time at this one, including us peons out in the lawn "seats." There were quite a few mature fans who brought a son or daughter with them--so lots of 40 or 50-somethings with an older teenager or a 20-something. All of them seemed to have a great time.

I missed the opening act. Parking was more crowded than usual, we parked in a different more dusty area. Getting out after the show seems okay despite that. Alice cooper was okay, had nothing to judge by, and wasn't really a listener of him. Deep Purple has been one of my favorite groups for decades. I have seen them before, and this concert was.... not as good as the ones in the past. Not as many of their well known hits and some jam sessions (while good) were sort of ho hum. This show did not leave me feeling as good as previous ones did..

This was a strange experience. Edgar Winter was impressive with his young band filled with great musicianship. He played maybe four or five songs and then scatted and jammed with the band. He's held up well over the years, but he's an acquired taste, quirky blues guy. Alice Cooper a great stage show filled with young, glam rock musicians. Alice was a great performer and looks like he did 40 years ago. Note: if you love the original AC, this is more metal. Deep Purple, aside from Ian Gillan, was great. The musicianship was inspired, especially the newcomers--Airy and Morse. But Ian Gillan looked like and sang like a geriatric patient. His voice is gone, his mannerisms are embarrassing. Conclusion: If you love Alice, this is your concert. If you love DP, subscribe to a music service and save the hassle.

Alice Cooper was by far the best of the 2 bands and performances. Alice played more than twice the number of songs and the quality and enthusiasm was much better. Deep Purple was just going through the motions, where Alice and the band were out there having a blast.

Alice Cooper& Deep purple are age old rock and roll acts that have nothing to prove. Edgar Winter started the show. Although I only saw his last two songs, he and his band seemed in top form and very entertaining. The same could be said for Deep Purple. My only complaint was that Deep Purple went on after Alice Cooper. In my opinion Alice and his band and theatrics ARE the headliner. They wee amazing and played many hits as well as a few deep tracks. Because the energy went from11 to 5 after Alice's performance I left after 4 Deep Purple songs.

Always a good time with any of these bands. Edgar Winter, though he stretched some stuff a little too far, got me laughing a lot. Wish he would have extended "Free Ride" as long as he did "Tobacco Road". He tributed "Tobacco Road" to his brother, Johnny, who passed recently. I would have loved to had heard more of his ability to rock the house by playing songs without a lot of goofing off, but, that's where he's at right now, so, that's that. I would have loved to have heard a much more dramatic "explosion" of synth notes during the peak of "Frankenstein" as well. It fell flat to Earth, unfortunately. And Alice...wow! Nothing to bitch about there! His added musicians were stellar players and he keeps me coming back every year! He'll be doing his entire new album next year on tour. Finally, Deep Purple! I do not mind and fully understand Ian's lost ability to scream his signature vocals BECAUSE his singing has matured incredibly! The new albums are simply fantastic to listen to with all of the added musicians fitting in perfectly. I will always be rocked by Deep Purple to the core. And their show was spot on, man! Love the way they jam, bringing back the good ol' days of hard rock to the front! And they brought out all of the "freaks" that they had mentioned in "Space Truckin'". The fans. Just to see the fans is an added bonus, mark my words. Now get there!

Headline act Deep Purple can't rock it any more. Band was excellent, including Don Airey (keyboard replacement for original member Jon Lord). But Ian Gillian can't do the vocals. Their unique sound with keyboard and screechy vocals no longer exists. They didn't even bother to include Kentucky Woman or Child in Time on their set list. A disappointment for sure but assuming is because they couldn't touch the vocals even if they tried. Alice was Alice. Good showman, excellent backup band. Highlight of the night was opening act Edgar Winter. First time I'd ever seen him. Turns out he is an excellent musician and still has the chops to hit the vocals. Bottom line I would see EW again but not either of the other two.

Edgar Winter opened the show and was highly entertaining performing with his brother Johnny and executing a rendition of Frankenstein for the books. Shortly thereafter, Alice took the stage and, what I hear is, par for the course he put on a spectacle doing favorites like Billion Dollar Babies, Feed My Frankenstein and Poison along with songs not necessarily as well known, but still done with passion and conviction. He is a seasoned performer and VERY gracious on stage sharing the spotlight with members of his backup band. Just a very giving performer. Of course he did his theatrics: changing into Frankenstein, losing his head in a guillotine battle, but mostly it was pure energy and fun. Not bad for a 69 years of age. Then, Deep Purple took the stage. They started strong with Highway Star, then disappeared into four or five songs that very few individuals in the audience seemed to know. They came back with Knocking at your Back Door, but Ian Gillan is old and his voice just can't do what it used to. As he attempted to hit high notes my Father and I though he was playing charades and acting out what it looks like to have a heart attack. As a result we left about 1/2 hour before the show ended and felt no remorse about it.

Awesome show. Edgar Winter kicked ass, he has the energy of a 20 year old. He played multiple instruments and his voice is great. Alice, great as always, with Alice it's a theatrical experience to go along with the Music. Deep Purple, one of Rock's original great band, Don O does a great job trying to fill the huge void left by Jon Lord, the band is tight, and Ian G still has a great voice almost 50 years later in his career. You can beat this deal, catch it if you can.

A 1970's retro show! Edgar Winter was good. Deep Purple were good and Alice Cooper was very good. They all played their classic hits mixed in with a few newer songs. Deep Purple set up like they did 40+ years ago with a small drum kit and very little fanfare. Ian Gillan can no longer hit the high notes, however those notes were hard to hit many years ago. He does a very good job for someone who just turned 72! Alice Cooper always has a great stage show and he has a very good supporting cast. I highly recommend seeing these band because they are aging very rapidly and you never know when they will retire or be forced to retire.
