Great new spin on a classic! Mother superiors solo made the hair on my arms stand up. Awesome! Maria was great too. I liked that Rolf didn't rat them out at the end. Great show! Our seats left a little to be desired- with staging too far left.

We have had floor seats in the same approximate location( row H, 8 rows back) for many wonderful performances. Last week our seats were limited viewing, not sold as such. This was due to the sets walling off each 1/3 of the stage on both sides. The center section laughed but no one around us heard the lines that brought the laughs. This time it was very difficult to hear. The costumes were great. The voices were on the whole were good. This is probably not the top group touring. Check the sound system or mikes.

First...get over the fact that Julie Andrews WILL NOT pop out...at anytime. And yes, the Maria you see at the beginning will be there the entire show! But, on the good side, so will that phenomenal Mother Superior. In my opinion, she rocks this show. She's got mean chops and really does these R&H songs justice. Maria isn't bad...just too giggly. Captain von Trap was good enough, thought perhaps a tad fatherly. Lisle reminds me of Reagan from the exorcist and Brigitta is down right annoying..all the time...no exceptions. Rolf is probably the most talented singer besides Mother Superior, and easy on the eyes. You'll have to remember, in the play version there are extra songs that aren't in the movie and sometimes they change up when the songs are sung. Disappointingly, they did the Lonely Goatherd song on the bed during the thunderstorm (huh?). The didn't sing I Have Confidence, but there were two other songs that they did really well. Ok, the Baroness...old. Too old. And Uncle Max was just weird. His voice was extremely low, and seemed like it didn't really fit the part. But he provides a bit of comic relief. The housekeeper spoke like she was reading her lines from a teleprompter. As far as the set...it was simple, but sufficient. However, during set changes they would move the two side pillars into the center, thus severely restricting the view of guests seated on the far right of the far left....this is clearly a design flaw and should have been corrected. Overall, if you're a SOM lover, you'll enjoy this production. I know I sound harsh, but realize I've seen the movie at least 10000x. The certainly did Rogers & Hammerstein justice. The music was on point and really all the singing (except Max's freakishly low voice) was really quite amazing. You can't help fight back a tear when Maria and the Captain are dancing the Lendler during the Gala...such a sweet moment. Go see the show, you won't regret it. Pick out your favorite parts and appreciate how they may be a little different than the movie. And remember to clap like hell for Mother Superior!

This was a powerful performance of The Sound of Music. This has always been the favorite musical of both my wife and I, so we go to it any time it is in the Chicago area. The children in the show were especially strong performers. An excellent time!

The songs were fun. The singing was fair. The second scene the scenery used 3 huge swastica flags which we found very upsetting to see. Even our grandchildren were uncomfortable seeing . The whole back wall was covered with these flags. Not necessary and insensitive.

A well done classic. The cast's voices were fantastic. The children had great range and control. The lead nun/mother's voice gave me chills. The audience however, ugh. A matinee with 50% kids and parents who did not set better examples for them. From phones going off, to singing along (including the adults) and non-whispers, the audience really put a damper on it. Additionally, all the concession sales during intermission made you feel like you were at the circus not the theater with rattling popcorn, candy wrappers and ice. Go see it for the performers, avoid the matinee. Overall, some better administration on decorum by the theater is recommended as well.

This musical is great but there are definitely some major differences from the movie which I was expecting. I feel as though the Captain role definitely could've been stronger. He just didn't command attention and his presence wasn't as masculine as you would expect from the Captain. The role of the Reverend Mother was absolutely amazing, her voice was stunning.

Though there are a few differences between the musical on stage and the movie, the performance was amazing. I wish I had chosen different seats but truly we didn t miss anything; Just would have loved to have been a bit closer or viewing from a bit higher. Rev Morher was amazing, the children were rock stars, and the storytelling in a condensed version, superb. I did miss the stormy bedroom scene song (it s different in the movie) and I missed hearing the Captain and Maria sing Edelweiss in the parlor (it s only referenced). All in all a stellar performance. Highly recommended!!!

Overall we like the performance. Singing was great. Staging excellent. But the miking was mediocre, often cutting out. Which is surprising and disappointing for a professional downtown performance. We saw Pretty Woman a few weeks ago and miking was perfect. Kinky Boots also was perfect. Also, the playbill had errors! Incorrect names. And Captain VonTrapp's clothes didn't fit. All his suits were to tight.

This show was AMAZING. My family grew up watching sound of music, so this was especially nostalgic for us. What made it better was that they mixed it up a bit from the movie and it was a pleasant surprise. We sat at the very back with the cheapest tickets and my family really liked it. The only thing with sitting so far back is that you can't see the facial expressions of the actors.

My mother and I have shared a long-time bond over The Sound of Music. She was thrilled when I told her I got tickets to the Cadillac Palace show. We thoroughly enjoyed it! It was nice that it stayed true to the story but sprinkled in some little updated parts. The only issue that we talked a touch negatively about were the 3 original songs--with such a strong musical following for this story, the original songs felt forced. And it came at the expense of favorites like "Confidence." Edelweiss should have made its "double performance" too--the beauty of that song is the significance to the Captain, both at the beginning AND at the end. But none of that kept us from having a wonderful time at this show!!

The performers were great, especially the performers in the roles of Maria and the Von Trapp children. I did not like the changes made to the original story, nor the added songs. The changes did not enhance the story and the added songs were not consistent with the team of Rodgers and Hammerstein.

The Sound of Music is a classic and this version is definitely worth checking out. However, while I felt most of the performances were strong, especially the head sister of the abbey, I felt Maria's performance was distracting. Her acting in this role is incredibly over the top to the point where I felt she would have been great as a co-star role in an Ace Ventura, The Mask or some other Jim Carrey movie. I don't recall Judy Dench's, Maria, being so over reactionary. It made it difficult to get into the play since her energy level did not compliment the rest of the cast. However, I do want to point out that her singing ability is truly amazing and despite what I have said, I can understand based simply on that alone why she got this part.

I took my mom and sister to the show and I'll be honest, I was expecting it to be fun and enjoyable but nothing groundbreaking. Wow, was I wrong! The actress who played Maria (Kersten Anderson) MADE the show - her voice is so beautiful, has this purity to it that was so fitting to Maria. The children were just incredible as was the rest of the cast. Sometimes the set was a little distracting when walls would move as the actors were on stage but the scenic shots of the mountains were gorgeous. I HIGHLY recommend this show! Absolutely worth the money! Also, Maria and the Captain had great chemistry!
