From his first notes to the last, it was vintage Neil Young. Witty, sarcastic and musically on point, he entertained us for 90 minutes of great memories. His solo rendition of Ohio with only electric guitar was phenomenal! The only disappointment was the absence of"Old Man" from the set list.

Neil was last night. He was quirky (as always) and so great last night. He sets up in a sort of staged living room with a dozen or so guitars, a banjo, harmonicas, two grand pianos, an upright, a ukelele, and a monstrous lighted, piped organ-y thing. He wanders around like a disheveled, cranky, quirky uncle and appears to be deciding which instrument to useas he half mumbles to himself, grabs one, grabs a harp, tells an off-beat, half-realized story, and then launches into Are you Ready for the Country or After the Gold Rush or Buffalo Springfield Again. The sound at the Wang is, ummm, a little better than the State Theater, so it all sounds so full and crisp and clear. He picked up one guitar and said, this was Hank Williams guitar. Like him it s very unusual. For some songs it sounds great and others it can t play for a damn. He picked up another and said, I got this from Stephen Stills. It s a Martin D-40 (I think that s was the model). Many years ago Stephen walked into a rehearsal with four of these, held them out, and gave each of us one and kept the fourth for himself. At another point he got up, wandered to a big, white, hollow electric guitar, maybe a Gibson?, and as he strapped it on he said, we were young and just playing songs. We didn t know if they were good we just played them. But people started responding to them. They liked them. And next thing you know we got houses. Then we were at David Crosby s house in the redwoods. It was beautiful there with the trees and the fog and the animals. It was green and smelled good. And he had a house there in the trees and we were happy there and then there was a Time magazine on the coffee table and there was a picture there on the cover of these four people who were dead. We were shocked. Those were our people and what was going on? We had to do something so we played this... and then the opening riff to Ohio pierced the air. He knows the licks! He talked about an old Dodge Ram truck of his that he recently dug out of storage. A 1975 truck that he said looks like a Holstein cow now with white finish and flat black primer spots. He says he loves the black spots. It s been in storage for 20 years. He said it smelled badly - like gasoline - but it started up. He rode it for a while and shut it off and as he got out he heard music. He wondered what it was and where it was coming from. Then he realized that there was a cassette in the dash and it was a demo of a song from 1995. He said he must have popped it 20 years ago and and taken the truck out to listen to it. He said it sounded better than the version on the record. Then he played that song on the piano (can t recall the song name, sadly). He played Tonight s the Night on the same grand piano he used to record it back in the 70s. It s painted white with splotches now. He says he toured a decade or two ago with a painter who painted while he played and one day his daughter just decided to paint the piano and he likes it because he thinks of her when he sees it. He ended with three beautiful songs from my favorite record: Out on the Weekend, Needle and the Damage Done and Heart of Gold. Such a great experience. I ll always lament that I missed the Beatles but am so happy I caught Neil.

Review Title Neil Young's still a vital artist Review This was my 5th or so time seeing Young, and it was an example of how a great artist keeps active into his 7th decade. (At one point, in response to an audience member's yelled request for classic tune "Old Man", Young replied, almost derisively, "Yeah, yeah, 'Sixty Four and there's so much more'...") People who were expecting a "Greatest Hits" show were probably somewhat disappointed by the lack of a lot of the obvious, big songs, though Young certainly played plenty of his classic songs such as "Ohio", "Hey Hey My My", "Cinnamon Girl", "After the Gold Rush", and "Helpless". And then other people (like my wife and me) who try to keep up with Young's latest releases may have also felt some disappointment by the lack of any songs from his latest release, "Fork in the Road" (much of the songwriting on which is actually as strong as anything he's released in the past decade, quite catchy, and --with a focus on the dialectic between the freedom of driving a car and the need to migrate to more eco-friendly technology-- extremely topical). It was as if that album never came out. However, people who understand that Young is a working songwriter were given a special gift when he performed what appear to be a batch of new songs, many of which seem more personal and explicitly autobiographical than Young's norm. Two of these struck me as fairly significant: One, played on a spinet piano, was an apparent ode to a granddaughter, perhaps on the occasion of her birthday; the other, played on acoustic guitar, was a seeming complaint addressed to his wife, during which he used the name of one of his sons, Ben (of whom he sang, paraphrased: "you always take him with you"), and reiterated the statement, paraphrased, "You're in Heaven, and I'm always working". The performances themselves were solid and moving. I don't know how many other 60s-era folkies or rockers are still performing with the same depth of sincerity, same breadth of musicality, and same vocal range they used to have, but Young must be preeminent among them. He played solo, mostly on one of several guitars, acoustic and electric, with a few tunes on keyboards (spinet, grand piano, and electric harmonium), and, of course, the famous harmonicas. There were some minor technical issues, especially with low-pitched, inadvertent guitar feedback on the first song of the night, but otherwise the show sounded just fine to my wife and me up in the balcony. Guitar aficionados were treated to some gratifying setups, including an acoustic guitar with its bottom 2 or 3 strings routed through separate effects that sustained their notes for more interesting pedal-point playing. And never mind the absence of Crazy Horse: Young can still rock out solo on an overdriven Gibson electric for an arena-sized anthem like "Cinnamon Girl". Above all, Young still has his unique voice and high range that are especially gratifying when performing songs like "Ohio" that have become indelibly linked with Vietnam War-era protest and the countercultural movement. In short, I found Neil Young's solo show at the Palace Theater inspiring, enlightening, and entertaining. I hope I never forget it.

This was the first time I have seen Neil Young so I was really excited when he was coming to this area. I had great seats (11th row) and the crowd seemed great. I have seen hundreds of concerts over the last 30 years of some of the best artist in the world. Neil of course is in this catagory. With that said I was very surprised of the poor sound quality and the amount of feedback that even left Neil troubled. Right from the first song inwhich he had to start and stop 3 times. This type of trouble occured throughout the entire concert. I think it even troubled Neil so much that he only did one encore which included a song that he had done earlier that evening. The crowd, whose excitement overlooked the error and gave him a standing ovation. With an act of this major standing and the high cost of tickets, it troubles me and others I had talked to later of the technical problems of the show. Neil also seemed not interested or maybe a man who has been on a very long tour and was too frustrated with the performance. I would be interested in others views on this show.

He said solo; they said acoustic. He played acoustic and rocked too. Various guitars, upright piano, grand piano, and organ. Loved it all; he wastes no time. What a great performance of his songs! He's still got it!

Neil's voice, harmonica, guitar, piano sounded awesome but the amplifiers were way too loud or cheap and distorted the songs. Thank God I was in the balcony as it must have really sounded poor in the lower level. He would have been great just singing with the microphone.

I have been a NY fan for 40 years. This show sucked. The sound was substandard; which is hard to do in a beautiful theater like the Palace. He played for only 90 minutes- which means I paid over a dollar a minute. With a song library like he has, I would expect A LOT more. Maybe time to hang up the tour bus???

I was very disappointed in this show. There were many technical glitches. Neil seemed like he was messing around at a rehearsal, not playing to a sold out crowd. Also, for the price, I expected a much longer show, not an hour and a half. I had tickets to go to another show on this tour and I am glad I sold them.

Was very excited when concert started with "Hey, Hey, My, My" - Neil sounded great and played great and then the song selection started......with such a great song catalogue to choose from only knew about half a dozen songs played. After the Goldrush could have been incredible if it hadn't been drowned out by the pump organ Neil played while singing. Neil made very little conversation with the audience as well which I don't like...we all paid good money to see you - acknowledge us! Last song played was the first song played - why do it again when you could have ended with another great song?!

Opened with my,my hey hey..closed with hey,hey,my,my...Did NOT play the classics, Old Man, Southern Man, or even Heart of Gold. Instead I got to listen to the same song (pretty much) twice and listen to a song he wrote for his granddaughter. I was really displeased with the whole concert. Opening act Peter Jensch could have put you to sleep.

No Neil Young did not play Heart of Gold or many of the crowd's favorites but the reason is that Neil has perhaps enough great songs to play for days or weeks straight instead of just hours. But many of the old standards were there including Cinnamon Girl, Hey Hey My My, Ohio, etc. When asked to play Old Man he feigned an affront on his own age and replied "I know, I know, 64 and there's so much more". His ballets were bitter sweet and poignant and inspiring to so many long time fans and young admirers. Few performers carry the depth and range of emotions that Neil has to communicate in his song that carry in their simplicity, and reverberate, the most complicated feelings.

Neil Young put on a fabulous show. Great mix of acoustic, keyboards & electric... old & new. Neil himself gets 5-stars. The only downside was the sound & acoustics at the Palace Theater. I felt that the sound could have been much better. Vocals were somewhat muffled / weak at times - hence the 4-star rating. Otherwise ... MY MY HEY HEY ROCK & ROLL IS HERE TO STAY !!!!!! After "knowing" someone for 45 years, there is an awful lot of material that one could cover in the course of a concert and a lot of favorites one would want to hear. While I tend to like Neil's electric side more, I enjoy the acoustic side, too. I've seen Neil in pretty much every configuration (solo, Crazy Horse, CSNY, etc) over the years and love every one of them Neil could have taken the easy way out last night and played Heart of Gold, Harvest Moon, Needle and the Damage Done, the most commercial stuff that, I'm sure, many people came to hear. Gladly, he didn't do that. Certainly, some great acoustic classics were there and the pump organ for After the Gold Rush is always a standard. I was pleasantly surprised to see the Gretsch and Les Paul put to good use with great effects for Cinnamon Girl, Cortez the Killer, Down by the River and the rest. I loved the new songs and can't wait to get my hands on them. Perhaps, best of all, is the fact that Neil's voice is still there, much better than many of his contemporaries. Simple fact is that Neil is a treasure and I was glad, once again, to get the chance to be in the same building last night.

It was great to see Neil at such a small, and beautiful, venue. He opened with several classic acoustic numbers which set the bar high for the remainder of the evening. While Neil met the bar on several numbers, I felt the show peaked in its first 20 minutes. The mix of old and unreleased material was a good one with only perhaps one clunker. The only downside of the night was that he ended after only 1 hour and 35 minutes.

You go to a Neil Young concert thinking you know exactly what's going to happen. After years and years of going to Neil's performances, I've learned that is never the case. In this concert we got at least 6 new songs. He changed up some oldies. Sometimes he talks alot in between songs but not in this case. Sometimes he gets mad at the equipment/crowd and storms off.....or.....plays the next selection hard and loud and it takes your breath away. If you are a true Neil Young fan you will gladly accept anything he puts out there. Concert complainers are not true fans.

We went expecting to see Neil play an acoustic guitar and sing songs consistent with that forum. When he took off the acoustic and plugged in the electric, he started playing songs we never expected to hear like Ohio and Cinnamin Girl. He did a lot of old favorites while playing 4 different guitars, 2 pianos, an organ, and of course, numerous harmonicas. Tickets were pricey, but worth it.

I was very excited about going to see Neil Young. I had been to one of his shows in the 90's at West Point and it was awesome, he had played all my favorite songs and I felt I got what I paid for. This show at the Palace did nothing for me. He performed songs I had never heard before which were good, but I was hoping to here some of the old Neil Young songs, such as Sugar Mountain, Old Man and so on. He still has a great voice and his unique style. I did not care at all for Bert Jansch. His voice to me just sounded the same in every song. Very boring. I did not like the stairs at the Palace Theater going to the balcony seats, no railings and very steep.

We loved the show!!! Neil was incredible!!! Crazy Horse was incredible!!!! The show was fantastic!!! We had a wonderful time, the sound came in very strong, and very good!!! The air was nice and breezy, and the weather was very comfortable. It was not cold at all!!! The weather had been seasonably warm all day, so that made the Hollywood Bowl even more comfortable that evening. We loved all the songs, they sang. Neil did a few songs solo, and they were all very good. The first two acts that came on were pretty good, but Crazy Horse, and Neil were WONDERFUL. The only thing that almost ruined the show was ALL the weed smoking going on around us!!! I almost got sick to my stomach!!!! There was not enough patrol around the place, so I guess there was not much you could do about it. But what about people who have asthma, or other lung ailments? People only think about themselves, and not the ones around them!!! Neil's genius work during the show was great!!! He had a rain storm going on, in between sets, and there were lots of lights during the show all around the stage. He had a giant microphone with a yellow ribbon, and three giant prop speakers on the stage. He really has a good sense of humor when he is on stage. He also used his "whizzer" when on stage (his homemade gadget that has sound effects)

I've seen NY in many variations over the years, including 4 Crazy Horse shows. I always look forward to a loud, raunchy CH show. That said, the best NY+CH show I've seen was in an auditorium. Somehow the insanely loud cauldron of electric grunge IN MY OPINION! loses something in an outdoor venue. My favorite parts of the Hollywood Bowl show were the new songs. Usually that's when I take a potty break or go for a smoke - but I enjoyed hearing the new stuff this time - Walk Like a Giant, Twisted Road, Singer w/o a Song, Ramada Inn - I liked em all, and I thought Billy sounded good on the harmonies too. As an aside, we got to the show quite early and stopped at the Bridge School booth before any music started, made a donation and had the pleasure of meeting and talking to Ben Young. Having just read 'Waging Heavy Peace,' I felt like I knew Ben Young pretty well before Wednesday, but it was an honor to meet him. Thanks Ben! Thanks Neil! Thanks Horse!

Neil Young is timeless. I turned to a friend who had been seeing neil since the 70's and said its hard to tell the difference between the new songs and old ones. Incredible sound down on the floor for all the distortion and feedback. Nothing like a good ol' fashion rock show with legends still on top of their game.

The man is a true artist, his guitar is his paintbrush. He is either courageous or could care less about not playing a strict list of his original hit songs. An artist must move on, so you hear. A group of yay-hoos in our row rudely booed them during Walk Like A Giant, and walked out like wimps. They wanted soothing renditions of their FM jingle-ized pop mindset.. I was glad when they went back to getting lost in their comfortable Harvey's casino mindset. .. NY~CH played 14 songs in a couple hours. He did choose Cinnamon Girl. as his oldest look to the far past, and damn it was good. He looked more wooden during the play. Before CG he said, "Here is a song I wrote this morning.". So with the past recognized, they jammed-out each song with rift after rift, and long crescendo . They didn't bring-it the usual rock way. Neil challenged listeners to listen. Those who listened were witness to art unleashed from rock's expected retro choreography.

I've been to A LOT of shows in my day and had the privilege of seeing many a legendary performer and performance. Last night's Neil Young and Crazy Horse performance in Albuquerque last night easily rates in my top 5 and may even take the top prize. Neil holds nothing back when playing and singing. It's full force GO from the minute he steps on stage and doesn't let up until the last note. He and Crazy Horse were amazingly tight, well rehearsed and having an incredible amount of fun playing their hearts out. I arrived to The Pavilion as gates opened GA ticket in hand and didn't expect to get that close to the stage. As luck would have it though, Albuquerque is a low stress GA environment. I easily scored a place on the rail, stage right. I may be a hardened concert goer, but I was absolutely giddy that I would get to see Neil and Crazy Horse that close. Lights go down, crowd goes wild, but wait...They're just teasing and don't come on for another 10 minutes. When they do though...Holy Cow! Full on audio assault with an epic rendition of Love and Only Love. Every time I thought they were finished they would jam on, harder and louder, a theme for the evening. Every song seemed to go on forever and there was not a single complaint about it! Powderfinger was next, followed by not one but 2 brand new songs, Ontario and Walk Like A Giant! Neil then picked up an acoustic guitar as Crazy Horse left the stage. He began with a really beautiful version of The Needle and the Damage Done. Then, yet another new one, Twisted Road, about the first time he heard Dylan's Like a Rolling Stone. Flashing a peace sign to the crowd, Neil racked the acoustic and Crazy Horse joined him for several more new tunes as well as crowd favorites Cinnamon Girl and Hey Hey, My My. If you're wondering about songs from Americana, they only pulled out one, Jesus' Chariot, in the encore. The evening ended with Roll Another Number. Crazy Horse is back and damn happy about it!

I have been lucky enough to have seen Neil and Crazy Horse a few times over the years, and I have to say, they only get better and better. I am happy to report that still, NO ONE ELSE can rock those dueling jangle-grunge max-amped guitars the way they can, and while the classics like Powderfinger and Cinnamon Girl can make you cry or stay in your head for days on end, their new stuff -- it's not even released yet but they played no less than 5 or 6 new jammers -- rocks so incredibly hard and sounds so urgent and relevant that all you can do is crave more from these legends, who certainly do not disappoint in any regard. In fact, this was one of the several most memorably stellar shows in my lifetime (and I've seen U2 , The Who and Pink Floyd twice, among others)... The amount of energy this man and his mates have and transmit is truly inspirational, and the level of mastery and genius is TOPS.

LOVED it! It appeared the entire band was truly enjoying themselves not just putting on a show. The only minor disappointment would be wishing he'd sang more older songs but he has to be over decades doing them right? As much as I love CS&N, Neil beat the hell out of their EXTREMELY lame show last year!!!

OMG!!! The words he wrote long ago are still so true today. When Neil Young said "Rock and Roll will never die" in his song Hey Hey My My, he proved that to be true at this Neil Young &, Crazy Horse Tour concert. Saw him in Albuquerque, N.M. Drove from El Paso, Texas. Hoped it would be worth it, planned for the new Americana cd and was ready for any oldie, or I should say classsic song, but I knew it would be good. I was blasted away! Yes there were a few classic songs which were FANTASTIC but he played new music. All of them, Neil , and the band jammed down . It was AMAZING. I saw fans with their mouths open in awe. By far Neil Young and Crazy Horse rule when it comes to good ole Rock and Roll. Those guitars worked for a good 2 hours or more with no talking, small breaks, and just pure gold rock that only Neil knows how to do. So happy I was part of that experience!!

First time to the Chicago Theatre and it was awesome. The attendants were friendly, helpful and courteous. The Theatre is beautiful. Our seats were on the floor KK and were perfect. Neil Young's voice is unbelievable---he still has it for sure! The only disappointment was that he did not converse at all with the audience. He also didn't play a couple of his old hits that I was waiting for. Overall, I loved it and it was the experience of a lifetime for us!

This guy has been rockin' non stop for over 40 years with no signs of slowing down. Neil played all by himself for nearly 2 hrs. Old, new and in between. Not a small feat for someone well into his sixties. I enjoy his music as much today as I did when it helped me through my adolescent heart breaks 40 yrs ago.!

Neil put on a tremendous show last night. I knew he could easily play acoustic solo, but to see and hear him excel playing electric was just stunning. He mixed oldies with new songs, played everything from his pump organ to his grand piano to acoustic guitars and harmonicas to Ol' Black, his Les Paul electric guitar. And he played each song with different twists than I've ever heard before, making even his oldest songs sound fresh and vibrant. As usual, Neil didn't say much to the audience but his words were in his songs and his voice and that's what counted. The man's talent continues to amaze me, even after 40 years of listening to him.

I didn't know what to expect with Neil playing solo but the band was not missed. He rocked on the acoustic and electric side with side trips on the upright piano, baby grand and a pipe organ. the highlight of the evening was hearing him play Cortez the Killer and sing about love and war. If you can see Neil while he still hits the road.

I love Neil's music. I know he is passionate about his beliefs. I wanted to hear his music not be lectured. We arrived early (as recommended) prior to the doors opening, about 4:45. The doors opened late around 5:20. The concert started an hour late. So, we were there for about 3 hours before the concert started. The first few songs (about the first hour) was really good and I was glad I came. After that the preaching started and protest songs - not entertaining. It's not that I don't agree with his views, it's that I wanted to hear is music and be entertained. We left about 10 but I heard he played later, maybe if he started on time he could have ended on time. We drove over 2hrs to get there and again after the concert. One other thing, love the new outlook area at the top of the bowl, but we were in section A which is the path to the outlook so had a constant stream of people walking in front of us.

Neil is still the Master! and Promise of the Real is awesome! Glad that he played a few songs from the past to warm the crowd up. His new album is great, too! He has always been outspoken for his causes, and uses his art to express them. Reviewers have dissed the concert for not playing all his old songs, but they should just go see a cover band play them... Oh wait, no cover band CAN truly duplicate a Neil Young song!

Neil young was great. No issue at all with the artist. However the cosmopolitan hotel in Las Vegas is a total joke. Worst venue I have ever seen a show at. The people are extremely rude they treat you like criminals. No smoking area no sitting areas for general admission. So they expect people to stand for over 5 hours straight. Tottal joke I will never go back to this venue to see any artist again.

WOW. Like any mature, gifted artist Neil Young has evolved, and it's pure bliss to hear his music, especially as connected to important social causes. His voice is perfect (little changed from the 60s), his guitar playing sublime, his songwriting inspired. We had seats close to the front and we were totally transfixed for the entire concert. As far as I could tell, everyone around us was too. The previous reviewer, who left the concert early and wanted her money back, should have stayed home and listened to Young's early albums if all she wanted was a sing-along. Those types of artists, who peaked after a few songs in the 60s, those are the ones who are playing in casinos while people gamble nowadays. This was one of the best concerts I've been to, especially when Young got into the groove with the other two guitarists (Willie Nelson's sons). They rocked out. It was an awesome event! In my mind (it's such a fine mind) Neil Young just gets better and better, and I am happy he is lending his immensely talented voice to social causes. Rather than being criticized for it, he should be applauded. The concert was a pure pleasure, and I am so happy I was there.

Way too political, Anti Police message and Non GMO agenda. Clean food message was an appropriate message. As the wife of a retired NYPD Officer I was offended at the "crazy cops" lyric. At 200.00 per ticket I was very disappointed. Only played 3-4 classic songs. As a lifelong fan I'm not loving new music. Nora Jones sound system was lousy. Couldn't hear her beautiful voice. If Neil wants to spread his personal agenda issues should be a free concert! Yes, My friend and I left early... I have no time for negativity, neither should Neil Young.

I have seen Neil over 35 times and this show was definitely a great one! Going back to some of many of his great songs, and new ones from the new CD...The Monsanto Years. At 60 years old, I didn't mind standing three hours in the pit listening. Promise of the Real did a find job of backing Neil up, and showing that basically they can follow and lead. You could see their smiles as Neil just kept going and going, song after song, with only one short water break! Mr Young.....Walk On!

The Neil Young Rebel Content and The Promise of The Real Tour is a must see. You don't have to agree with Neil's politics and protests to absolutely immerse yourself in his music. Never having seen Neil before made this show all the more special. If you didn't catch a glimpse of Neil's graying hair and weathered face, you'd never know the man was approaching 70. The Old Man rocked the house at Bethel Woods. From the start of the show when he came out alone and gave some of the best renditions of his songs I ever heard - his voice was absolutely flawless - to the point where The Promise of The Real joined him and the real fun began, this show delivered. Tickets weren't cheap - usually I like to be right in the front section, but frankly we couldn't afford $200+ tickets. We paid almost as much for the top section under the Pavilion and the seats were good - but once the show started? I was wishing we could have kicked in those extra bucks and been up front. The opening act, Puss & Boots, featuring Nora Jones was excellent. They were by no means a rock and roll band but their harmonies and musicality were extraordinary and a joy to listen to and watch. From the reception they received from the audience, it seemed many others besides me enjoyed the girls' music. The Promise of The Real was superb - they backed Neil with expert musicianship but didn't compromise their own originality and musical style in the process. With a star as bright as Neil's, it would not be hard to get lost in his glow but those guys held their own. The jams between the band and Neil were a joy to watch - and the fella playing the guitar with the fiddle bow was an act in and of himself. When I found out that two of the band were Willie Nelson's sons, I wasn't surprised. The world will be hearing a lot more from The Promise of The Real. My only criticism of the show had nothing to do with the concert or the performers - it's just a commentary on the times. Too many people are up and out of their seats moving around in the Pavilion area. We were on the end of the row and had to keep getting up for people to go get beer and food during the show plus the people obstructing our view getting up and down in seats down from us. I realize the venue wants to make money on refreshments, but it is not only disrespectful to the performers, it is annoying to those who want to watch the show uninterrupted. We paid for good seats because we want to see the whole show - not people coming and going for beer. Please, Bethel Woods and other venues, put a stop to this. Besides that, I can't find a negative thing to say about Neil's performance or the show. This tour is not only worth seeing, but it's worth the bucks you'll pay. Neil may be pricey but you won't regret a cent or a second. Keep on rockin', Neil. We need you out there for a long time to come.

I have been a Neil Young fan since the 1970s. I paid to hear Neil Young entertain me at Bethel Woods. I enjoyed his classic tunes.. But hearing about the evil Starbucks and corporations and GMO was not entertaining. We ended up leaving the show early because of all the politics he jams into our ears. The positive, Neil still sounds as good as he played in the 1970. Just a note, way too many potheads at this show.

Neil played a good mix of new songs from his Monsanto Years CD, which he recorded with Promise of the Real (Willie Nelson's sons). You never know what you will get with Neil Young. Tonight we got a career spanning, genre spanning, monster of a show. 3 hours of songs, old and new, solo and with a band, soft and blistering. He kept the flow great and while most artists that do long shows let the energy die with an acoustic section, he started out with the ballads (Classics all) and then started building from there. I hope I have half the energy he does when I am 69 years old. Promise of the Real did an excellent job backing him up. Many of the songs rivaled versions done with Crazy Horse. Even the new stuff sounded great.

Loved the oldies but goodies songs that we could all sing to. Neil did acoustics for those and it sounded great. the new music/songs were good too but it seemed he sang too many songs about Monsanto, almost like hearing the same song again. We left at 11:15 pm and the band was still playing. Having photos/videos displayed re: Keystone activists and protests and/or photos of the land and of farms/farmers would have been a nice effect that would help get the message across.

I was in the pit in the front row and wanted to add just two things that caught my eye that may not have been noticed from further back. First, when Neil switched to the white Gretsch electric guitar before "Words Between the Lines of Age" he was fine tuning it near his mic and one of his harmonicas. He noticed that the harmonica was causing some feedback. Instead of carefully removing it from the mic stand, he quickly and effortlessly flipped the harmonica with a finger and of it went tumbling on the stage floor... treating it like a tool of his trade. 2nd...toward the end of his first Monsanto song, Neil lost his place and stepped up to the mic to harmonize "Monsanto" but just before he did, the sound man shut Neil's mic down for a brief moment then seamlessly turned it back up. Neil gave him a thumbs up along with a smiling gesture and the sound man smiled back and the band played on. Immediately after NY vocalized "Well I don't know you but I do know who I am." in the song, Working Man, he gestured with his middle finger of his right hand as if to say, "#@%& you big corporations I want to keep my farm." He was into it. Although this was my first Neil Young concert, and have nothing to compare it to, I would not hesitate to spend another $100 to listen to him play again. I also liked being in the pit a mere 20 feet from Neil and POTR. They certainly had a lot of energy and passion for the show and everyone in the pit appreciated that. My goodness... They played nonstop for nearly 3 hours, some 28 songs, and sounded great doing it. What else could fans ask for? Missed "Cinnamon Girl" but that's okay. Maybe next time. Thank you Neil Young and Promise of the Real! Come back to Milwaukee soon.

I saw this show 3 days ago and am still thinking about it. It didn't hurt that I was in the pit only about 3 people back and could see the expressions on all of the musicians faces. Neil looked like a wise, old wolfman sage with piercing eyes. The connection he had with the younger guys was really beautiful to watch. I'd only seen Neil Young two times before, but this was by far my favorite show. I have a friend who has seen him 15 times and he also said this was the best ever. It's hard to put into words about this wonderful artist's live performance, but it was really magical and his ensemble seemed to magnify it.

First off, apparently no one has told Mr. Young that he is no longer 20 years old, because he assaulted the stage with a energized fervor and in perfect vocal form. His band this time through is the road tested Promise of the Real, led by Willie Nelsons son Lukas and this time also joined by son Micah Nelson. What an amazing fit! These guys have high energy like Crazy Horse and harmonies with multi-instrument performances reminiscent of CSN&Y. The first set seemed to be a fans dream set of acoustic songs, with the latter half opening up the power and the grit.

As usual, Neil Young was well worth the price of admission. A living legend, here he highlights his latest album, The Monsanto Years. The smallest quibble I had was the lack of well known past hits. Nothing from Rust Never Sleeps. Because the band Promise of the Real backed him on The Monsanto Years album, those were the songs they knew best, and that meant that that's what they played the most of. Neil did solo versions of Old Man, Harvest, etc. All in all, great concert, and great interaction between him and the band.

I'd give it 4 and a half stars - that wasn't an option. I don't know what would be needed to make this a 5, but I go under the policy that nothing is perfect. One of the most enjoyable concerts I've been to. Neil was in good humor, presented a range of his work, and added covers from the likes of Tim Harden and Phil Ochs. He kept up a Neil-like banter with the audience. His singing was really good for Neil - full, almost rich; didn't sound thin and whiny. His guitar-playing was also deep, rich and fully expressive. The Chicago Theatre is a fabulous concert venue. Great sound, good sight lines, and beautiful visually. Neil offered appreciate remarks on the place. Always nice to have the artist appear to be genuinely enjoying himself.

Neil was dead on with his songs and acoustic guitar performance. He sounded as good as ever and played classic hits. He also added some humor with some remarks and seemed very down to earth. Neil Young was perfect with his crisp unforgettable voice. This concert was fabulous and he sang all his classic hits and then some. He was also very down to earth, and was seen as somewhat of an uncle type that would sing around a campfire. He even made some humorous jokes to the crowd and was a humble guy, giving credit to those that influenced him in the past and guitars that other celebrities gave him. A truly class act. Listening to him sing from the heart, it brought tears to my eyes, and I am a man that rarely if ever sheds a tear. I don't care how much ticket prices would go for in the future, if he ever comes to Chicago again, I am going.

Neil walked out onto the stage, gave a wave and got down to his business of playing songs, mostly on Martin Acoustics of which he told a short story about each, but also entertained us with renditions such as "A man Needs a Maid" on a baby grand piano, and a great version of "Mr. Soul" on an old pump style pipe organ. Neil is a very 'Matter of Fact' type of fellow and relates well to his appreciative audience. Overall, it was a great concert! I had never seen Neil perform before, but I have almost every album and have been a fan since 1970, and a fan of CSNY. When I was young I had several of his records. I loved the old music so when I saw he was coming I was telling my 27 and 29 year old sons and they wanted to go too. I loved all his old instrument of guitars, ukelele, pianos, and organ. I loved the old stories about the instruments. He played about 4 songs I knew and it was nice to remember a time or where I was when I heard him first. The boys wished he had sung "Old Man" but I was so happy they appreciated going. I enjoyed this performance immensely. Neil shared many interesting stories during the concert which made it very personal. I have seen him many times, but haven't heard him open up this way before. My one disappointment has to do with the behavior of the audience. The level of calling out and alcohol consumption turned the atmosphere noisy so it was difficult to hear him when he spoke. Neil has one of the most unusual and memorable voices in rock and roll. I am always amazed that he has his falsetto at his age. He never disappoints as an artist.
