I had the pleasure to see Robert Cray and his band at the Snoqualmie Casino on Friday, August 16th. Robert continues to stand out as one of the premier guitarists of our time and his blues vocals paint incredibly vivid mind pictures. He is supported by bassist Richard Cousins, keyboardist Jim Pugh, and drummer Tony Braunagel. Together, this band brings the blues to the listener with a very distinct and and special touch.

WE LOVED THE SMALLER VENUE. THE BAND WAS PHENOMINAL. WE SOMEHOW MISSED TEE SHIRT SALES TO OUR DISSAPOINTMENT. OUR ONLY COMPLAINT WAS THE DRINKS WERE BADLY WATERED DOWN. WE TRIED SEVERAL DIFFERENT BARTENDERS. ALL THE SAME SO WE GAVE UP.

I would urge any fan of the Blues to experience Robert Cray live. He is destined to go down in history as a true Blues icon along with the other Blues masters. His unique style is fun, inventive, expressive, and true to the genre. Impeccable guitar work and perfect pitch. The Avalon in Easton, MD is the perfect intimate venue allowing a deep personal experience. Go see Robert at the Avalon next time he's in town.

Elegant and smooth, and with maybe a little more passion, enthusiasm and funny commentary than other times we have seen him. This was an incredible show from start to finish. Lots of newer stuff, a few oldie nuggets and overall fantastic musicianship by the whole band. Robert's guitar work and vocals are so fine, such a pleasure to see this immense talent again. And bonus was Steve Jordan sitting in for a few songs. Great!!!

great theatre, good sound, love the small intimate place. warm up band was awesome & entertaining. everything went on time and found easy, safe, well lit parking across the street in a garage. stage was awesome as Robert Cray has a large band. he is an amazing guitarist and LOVE his voice! he had so much interaction with the crowd, really nice. Sometimes you see a band and they don't engage with the audience. he was funny, entertaining, focused and so lively. you can tell he loves what he does.

OK 2 older guys covering the blues as a warmup - nice. Good covers and a spirited performance trio. BUT . . . Long setup for Robert Cray. Older and middle aged audience. From the first few notes to the ending slam a polished and heartfelt interpretation of the the essence of the blues. Cray was in command, The CATS (2 man horn section) onbeat and scripted perfection. His bassist Richard Cousins in bare feet an ever-present and never overwhelming bed of low note love. Steve Jordan filling in on few tunes was impeccable. 4 pro videographers - Where can I buy this video - it is destined to be a classic!

Robert Cray and band played a very soulful, bluesy set on November 13, 2013, at Hoyt Sherman Place in Des Moines, Iowa. After the opening act, Rock Island Rollers, played an amazing blues/jive/soul-filled set, Cray and band mates took the stage. Robert was joined on stage by a drummer, keyboardist and bass player, all who, based on familiarity, knew their place within every song of the set as well as you or I know how to breathe. The guys have their parts down, no one more so than Robert Cray. Having never seen him live before, his easy, soulful, smooth style of play is not only easy to listen to, but interesting to watch as well. He REALLY gets into his playing, which is rewarding for anyone in attendance. He also had an easy rapport with the audience, introducing almost every song. The show lasted about two and half hours in total. Both bands were tight, and well-worth seeing.

Rock Island Rollers opened for Robert Cray. My husband and I were very impressed with the band and the energy they brought to their performance. My husband especially loved the horns. Robert Cray must of been a bit overwhelmed at the thought of following this band whom by the way received a standing ovation. As far as Robert Cray band goes, Eh. His diction is unsurpassed and his guitar playing was awesome, however the mood he brought to the stage with his play list left me quite depressed. As if I just got dumped by a lover. The venue, which I had never experienced the Hoyt Sherman Place before, was amazing and I would definitely go to more shows here.

This show is not flashy or highly staged, but the music is so tight and well-done that you won't care. If you only know his big hit, Smoking Gun, and that's all you came to hear, you may be disappointed. He did not play it for us. However if you are a fan of his other songs, you will be happy. The final encore song (I'm Done Cryin') had the audience in a kind of trance--so good.

This rating only applies to the Robert Cray part of the 3 act bill which also included Los Lobos and Rod Piazza and The Mighty Flyers. Cray, whom I've seen before, and enjoyed, was technically masterful. He made the mistake of following Rod Piazza whose energy was virtually impossible to exceed. Cray was dull and pedestrian with occasional flashes of brilliance. A waste of time. He played too long and should have been the last act. We then could have left early. Piazza exhausted me with his, and his band's incredible energy. And what can you say about Los Lobos? They're the legend they should be. All in all, kinda like poorly cooked bread. The outside nice and crusty, the middle (Cray) soggy and soft. What a great venue the Fox Performing Arts Center is. Beautifully restored. Parking, however, is absolutely atrocious. Worse than atrocious. Horrible. Look for the parking garage for the Mission Inn a couple blocks away. Kinda freaky walking through downtown Riverside at midnight with virtually no-one around. But as the old joke goes I didn't have to out-run any bad guys, just out-run my wife.

The Robert Cray band was great...very disciplined, very professional...extremely good sidemen who supported the leader very well...Disappointing was that the set didn't start until about 8:20 almost 1 1/2 hours after the tickets stated a performance at 7:00 pm...no announcement was made nor a ny reason for the long delay....People around me felt that the organizers wanted to get people in so that they'd spend money at the bar...quite deceptive really!

The Civic Theartre in New Orleans, LA is a beautiful, intimate venue. Robert Cray and his band's performance there on October 13, 2013, was outstanding!!! Robert is soulful, feeling, and seems to be driven when performing. Robert directs your mind's eye so that you see the plights of American families, the broken hearts of lovers, and life and living, with the words of the songs he sings; Robert's masterful guitar playing causes you to feel, even deeper, what the words of his songs depict. It was a wonderful pleasure and an enormous treat to experience Robert Cray and his Band perform!

If you are not already aware, Robert Cray is an incredible guitarist and vocalist. Kenny, Noah and his band were fine...Kenny's skills made it worthwhile. It seemed Kenny wasn't into the crowd, and only cracked a smile when some old drunk woman apparently propositioned him. Robert Cray was what I expected, but what I was waiting for was for Kenny and Robert to jam. That never happened. When Buddy Guy, Johnny Lang and Vince Vaughn played the Family arena last year that was the highlight. They were in town on Friday night...I chose KWS....have to get the review from my friends who went to see them.

I first saw him in a small bar in So Cal early 80's. He is as good as I remember and as good as all the CDs I a have enjoyed through the years. He is timeless. As usual, Robert Cray was excellent. He's got such a clean sound and is a master at making his Strats sing! But seeing anyone at a venue inside a casino is something I'll have to think twice about in the future. Many in the crowd--especially near the bar--seemed to believe he was background music. More important to them was to talk, laugh and joke. It was embarrassing! Whenever Cray tried to sing his slow, softer songs it was especially annoying. When he tried to sing one midway through the show, he started over 2-3 times before he gave up and played something louder that could drown out the idiots.

Excellent show by the Robert Cray Band. Roberts playing is superb--The problem with shows is that Robert Cray has too many great songs and there is not enough time for them all. I was hoping to hear "Wont be coming home" and "Smoking gun" but unfortunately they didn't make the set list--but if they did, some equally amazing songs would have had to have been left off the list.

As usual Robert Cray did not disappoint! His voice and guitar playing never age, he sounds as good now as he did twenty years ago. Band was tight, they had great energy! The crowd? Well- we seem to need an etiquette course on attending live music. Remember the people around you didn't pay to hear you talk. Or watch you drink yourself silly. And when the venue says no recording, they mean it. Put your phone away and actually live in the present instead of recording ten seconds to post to social media so you feel important that you went to the concert. If your friends online want to see live music they should get their own tickets. Have some respect.

Love Robert Cray. Such a beautiful artist, so gifted with his hands and phrasing on that guitar. What is newer is Robert's great sense of humor. Each time we see him, Robert gets better and better at integrating great jokes in between the music. It makes the shows more fun and lets us know that Robert is enjoying himself too. Richard is always great on bass. After all these years he still has passion to play with Robert. Les is a nice addition on drums and can explode with little fills here and there instead of just keeping the beat. Jim is a great keyboard player but the organ seems prone to providing only long held background notes. Jim showed what he is capable of on Sitting On Top Of The World and it made us realize how the band could be better if Jim did more solos and talked back and forth on his keyboards with Robert's guitar. Just a thought, go for it Jim. Love Robert Cray!

It was an extremely uncomfortable night as far as the weather was concerned. The temperature reached 98 degrees that day with dewpoints in the 70's. When Robert Cray took the stage the sound was blended perfect. I really love his funky trebly lead breaks and smooth as silk vocals. Robert interacted with the audience between songs. The audience really liked that. The bugs were dive bombing the band - and Robert added some humor to the situation by clapping a mosquito right on the downbeat of a song to end the piece. He didn't play many of his well known songs (my assumption is he has been playing them for many years and is sick of playing the same songs). Every song he did was interesting and tastefully done in my opinion. Great concert - I will definitely see him again.

Would not go to see Robert Cray again. He either doesn't know or doesn't care what his audience wants and the VooDoo Lounge is one of the worst venues I have ever been in to see a show.

It pisses me off that artists either don't care or don't know what their audience wants. I know they want to plug their new stuff but it should be in ADDITION TO ....NOT....IN PLACE OF what got them the audience in the first place. The crowd was polite and respectful and appreciative but I think overall disappointed much the same way I was. I haven't bought anything Robert has done in over 10 years and am totally unfamiliar with his current release. I didn't hear anything that makes we want to hear more much less rush out and buy it. Honestly, if I had known the set list beforehand I would not have went, but it NEVER occurred to me that he wouldn't have played 2 of his biggest songs! That just BLOWS!

Thankfully it was a very pleasant summer evening, having been in the upper 70's that day. The outdoor venue was a plus on this day, however being in Washington St. we lucked out! We sat in the very back row of seats on the "floor" level, directly in the middle. The sound was great, not too loud and well balanced. The only drawback was that my sweetheart is a bit short so she had to look around the taller people in front of her to see well. The band played for about an hour and 15 minutes, with a wide range of their music, some new to me and a few of the oldies but goodies... Enjoyed the music and Roberts banter with the crowd at times was a nice personal touch I thought. Was definitely well worth the money!!!

Snoqualmie Casino gives out a lot of free tickets to regular gamblers for these events. This process results in a whole lot of people in the audience that are not interested in the show. In other words, they go because they get a free ticket and they can take a break from gambling. There were several people sitting around me who talked among themselves throughout show. The talking was loud and annoying and a major distraction. Robert Cray was good from what I could hear.

My husband and I had a great time, seats were great, the show was amazing and the night was beautiful. My only complaint is the show was too short only 1-1/2 hours.

Robert Cray hasn't missed a beat. He plays as great as ever, and his voice is as great as ever too. Songs he played - mostly from his latest album Nothin' But Love - are solid. Unfortunately, this did not translate into an unforgettable show. Nobody even rose to their feet to dance. Maybe it was the audience, mostly older folks. Maybe it was the venue, a small casino outdoor stage with seats for everyone. Maybe it was the absence of the mighty Memphis Horns (RIP Andrew Love!). But maybe it was the businesslike delivery. It was obviously a pre-canned set list with zero spontaneity. The arrangement couldn't have been more simple -- just the 4 piece, no guest musicians, no meaningful arrangement changes at all. Jim Pugh and Richard Cousins went through the motions -- nothing new brought to the table there. Robert Cray delivered recording-perfect artistry but that also means he didn't stray from the mic to get close to the audience. It really would have been nice for him to take a solo, walk around, approach the edge or the stage ... push the envelope for once. We wish we could have pulled out an obscure cover track that influenced him or interact with the audience between songs. No such luck. The governor was set low, with 'Phone Booth' being as energetic is the RCB would go. Following an upbeat number or two, The band would put on the brakes and shift to a slow blues tune that deflated the energy. With the exception of excellent drummer Les Falconer, I don't think the band broke a sweat. _That_ is a shame + a sin.

Robert Cray in person - unforgettable! A voice that fits the blues to a "T". Plays guitar like he invented it. The band members he has to accompany him, are blessed with abilities that they could stand on their own. But together, they produce a sound that filled the Belle Mehus with a fantastic blend and richness!!

I have seen Robert Cray twice. Once when I drove 16 hours to see BB King, he was the opening act. I was hooked then. So when I heard he would be 100 miles away, I had to go. The auditorium had great acoustics and they sounded great! Would definitely go again!

This is the second time I have seen Robert Cray, and the first time at the Belle Mehus. He always plays a good show, and just an amazing no frills kind of band. Worth every cent.

Robert Cray is a smooth operator. If you don't like blues you should't go. He can can make a guitar sing like the good old boys should. I seen him once before in the very early 80's, loved him then and love him now.
