First off, I just love Fletcher Theatre because it is much smaller and more intimate than the other larger venues and there really isn't a bad seat. However, a Monday night concert can be iffy since it's not a popular date night and for that reason, it can be common to see empty seats. Couple this with a starting time of 8pm and I admit it surprised me that there was an opening act. Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams (also a part of Shawn's band for this tour) came out to warm up the crowd and it turns out they are both very accomplished artists in their own right and gave us a very quality opening show! After the break, Shawn came out and this crowd was definitely ready. The "A Few Small Repairs" album is still my favorite and I was beyond excited to hear all of the songs live. And Shawn didn't disappoint! However, she is who she is. She is not the warmest artist, so don't expect her to interact much with the audience. But she did try to share some details about how each song came to be and even tossed out a comment and a chuckle from time to time. Her band members were introduced along with a little background on each they were a very talented and interesting ensemble. There was an obligatory bow after the last song of the album, but we knew they would be coming back out to play at least a few songs from the other albums and they did! It was about 11pm when the show ended, so it was a full evening of entertainment and well worth the ticket price! I love Shawn Colvin!

Concert was great, would highly recommend it to anyone that's a Shawn Colvin fan. The opening act was great as well (Larry Campbell & Teresa Williams). They also played with Shawn and the rest of her band after. They were both pleasant surprises. My wife and I both went, we sensed some frustration from Shawn when she first started with "Sonny Came Home". This concert was the type where they play through an entire album to honor its 20th anniversary. She joked after that song that for those that came to hear that song they could leave now, but she hoped they'd stay for the rest of the show. It was obviously a joke, but it seemed like something that you'd say when you've probably played all your hits 100's of times. Probably gets tiresome for them, but she quickly seemed to get past it and the mood lightened up after that, so no harm no foul. **NOTE:** to artists - so many of you are supremely talented, if you want to play cover songs for some other band all night, we'd be completely fine with it, and mix in some of your own, do whatever you want, we're there to see you perform, you don't have to play your most popular songs. Just jam, anyone that's stuck with an artist for 20 years clearly likes/loves the artist and just wants to see them perform ANYTHING and have a great time just enjoying music. I have been going to the Coach House for years, know some people and typically get good seats. This was my first time seeing Shawn Colvin. My girlfriend is a fan and I took her for Valentine's Day. We ended up sitting at the table front and center in the 2nd and 3rd seats. Shawn was so entertaining and engaging with the audience. From our seats, it felt as if she had come over to our home, like we had been friends for years. She plays the guitar beautifully, is a great story teller (called Sting a Panzy Ass because he hinted to her about using an electronic tuner and "He only has four strings"). I am a huge Sting fan and got a kick out of the story. Her voice is a beautiful as ever, possibly gained even more grace with age, something she joked about (the aging).

They covered some wonderful music and probably wrote those songs, just wasn't know for sing them. There was a few political rhetoric comments by Earle that over shown his old music and that was a shame. I knew he was very outspoken in older days, but I was just hoping to hear music....not live updates from the Democratic convention.

When you get a chance to see singers/ songwriters collaborate on a project and go on a tour to celebrate that work you should definitely see them. The Lexington Opera House is a great venue for a stripped down acoustic and personal show, love the back stories of where the songs come from whether it be their own that they have written or why they chose to do a cover. Don't need an opening act and they don't have one. First time seeing Colvin and second to see Earle, really enjoyed them.

Shawn Colvin is always a class act. Her voice and guitar playing are first-rate. Steve Earle was okay--wish he wouldn't insult people who don't happen to share his political views. If we were all alike and thought the same, what a boring world it would be. It would be nice if liberals like Mr. Earle could become a bit more open-minded and tolerant of opposing viewpoints (after all, isn't that how we learn and grow?). I give Ms. Colvin five stars and Mr. Earle three to average out to four.

We splurged for tickets near the front dead center. We have seen Shawn Colvin before and it was very nice. We were looking forward to this event. The sound was very poor. First off, it was way too loud for a singer/songwriter event. Both of Ms. Colvin's guitars were way too loud. Her strum drowned out Mr. Earle's leads. His mandolin was too hot as well, but his other instruments seemed about right. That issue was likely his mandolin. The others were the sound engineer. Her vocal mic was significantly hotter than his. When they sang together, he was barely heard. All the instruments overpowered the vocals. If you did not know the words to the song, it was very difficult to understand them. Obviously, many in the audience knew most of the songs, but those who did not struggled to hear the words. Not what should happen in a singer/songwriter show. Possible reasons for sound issues include seats were poor related to sound (not likely), sound in the facility is poor (also not likely), or the Sound Engineer did a very poor job. I think it was this one. I was not alone in this assessment. We heard several folks on the way out complain about the sound. This was not a rock concert and should never have been so loud. We were very disappointed and felt we wasted our money that evening. Those tickets were way too expensive for what we received. Not sure we will return to that venue unless we can be assured they have fixed this significant issue.

Very enjoyable concert. This was the first time I have seen both artists perform and was not disappointed. I would see them again. They played for 1.5 hours, just wished they would have played longer. Of course, the concert was to promote their new record. I would have enjoyed them playing some of their own material, but got the promo tour. The venue is very nice and we had good seats, pretty close to the stage.

One of the most special concert experiences I've ever had. The intimacy and history of the Birchmere was the perfect backdrop for two very special performers and people. Normally, I prefer it when an artist plays with a backing band than solo acoustic. But Shawn Colvin and Steve Earle are both "one-man bands", delivering so many sounds from their guitars, mandolin and harmonica. Their voices worked together beautifully, and they clearly click on so many levels. The material from the new album is fresh and engaging--can't remember seeing a show this good in a long time (which is saying a lot since I also just saw Springsteen's 3 1/2 hour River tour)!

A great pleasure seeing two old friends clearly enjoying playing together and entertaining a well-informed and appreciative audience. An excellent mix of old favourites, many given fresh arrangements, and new songs from the recently released Colvin & Earle album. And great choice of covers, opened with Wake up Little Suzy - a big surprise, and later on Ruby Tuesday.

We are 20 year fans of both singer-songwriters and this album and tour is everything we could have hoped it would be. Stellar and classic Colvin & Earle, with a transcendent quality born of the collaborative co-creation. Playing off of each others strengths and humanity, their powerful, individual talents to reach deep into the human experience and artfully weave threads of raw silk as a means for us to connect to our own are triumphant and profound. We are ecstatic and deeply grateful. If you can make this tour, by all means do it. If you cannot, buy the new album and both of their individual books.

Ms. Colvin put on a great show, even though she appeared to have a bad cold. She was great and the opening act was great. Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams opened the show and they came back on stage to play and sing with Shawn. Larry Campbell is a fantastic guitar/electric guitar, pedal steel guitar, and fiddle player and singer! Shawn Colvin talked about first working with him and his wife, Teresa, in NYC many years ago. I am never disappointed in Ms. Colvin, but this concert was really exceptional with the addition of a great session musician like Mr. Campbell and his wife, Teresa.

Shawn's acoustic set featured a satisfying mix of old and new, and it amplified the great songwriting, be it a Colvin original or a cover. Shawn opened with American Tune, as timely as when Paul Simon wrote it in the early 70's. Followed that up with my two favorites, Trouble, and Shotgun Down the Avalanche. Mixing in tales from her life made for an intimate performance.

This woman had a cold and the only way we knew it was because we were front row and center. Between singing perfectly and talking to us about her experiences and thoughts, she would have sniffles or coughs and not a note missed! The venue was very nice, but needs one seat removed from each row to allow your arms to go by your sides.

Shawn Colvin opened the show, which surprised me since she is the bigger name of the two, but it ended up being a really good idea since she put the crowd to sleep for about an hour. She played by herself most of the time (Cohn joined her on vocals for two songs), but she really needed a full band to bring some energy. After intermission, Cohn brought energy and humor and was helped by a keyboardist to fill out the sound. He played piano most of the time and Colvin joined him on guitar for 3 songs. Having the 3 play together really helped. Cohn drew mostly from his first album and added some covers, not much of a repertoire to choose from. Colvin's best efforts were covers as well. Interesting, and she has another cover album coming out in the fall. One last note, Cohn curses A LOT...multiple f-bombs for no apparent reason, weird...

Shawn and her band were excellent. They played the album according to the original song list and each song sounded as fresh as the first time I listened to the album 20 years ago. Shawn Colvin has been a favorite of mine since "Steady On" debuted in 1989. She only gets better and better as time goes on. This night she was phenomenal; just a spectacular musical evening. The fact that she was backed by Buddy Miller, her producer, friend and completely mind blowing guitar genius made an evening much awaited anticipated even more so. Double Bassist Viktor Krauss rounded out this fantastic trio. If you are a fan of Shawn's music, you would not have been disappointed in the set chosen. She did every song I've ever loved of her's (and that's a long list, I will tell you). During the break after Amy Cook's performance and before Shawn began playing, I purchased her newest CD ("All Fall Down") and her memoir ("Diamond in the Rough"). The CD is outstanding; get it immediately. I've begun reading the book and am enjoying it immensely. All I can say is I'm so glad that I thought to do a search and check out Shawn's tour dates. East coast; you're next. Purchase your tickets now - you won't be disappointed!

"Comfortable" is not a word that many people are comfortable with. It has a connotation of indulgence. That would be a mistake in describing a Shawn Colvin concert. In her case it means sounds of honesty, familiarity, warmth and elements you want to identify with. Friday night's concert at the Coach House contained those elements a-plenty. She mentioned at one point how long she has performed at the Coach House, and it certainly came across in the obvious relaxed attitude she had. It worked well for her in response to an accessory foul-up by her crew on the first song -they forgot to lay out her capo. She obviously missed it, but carried on, like a pro will. The stage was set, though, for an evening of a few gaffs and mistakes that really only made her more personable. Each mistake was a little bigger, but the audience became part of them along the way and probably felt like they were becoming a better friend of Shawn s. Toward the end, when she blanked and stalled on the lyrics of I Want It Back , an audience member was glad to help by shouting out the next line. For which, Shawn thanked her and continued. At any other concert this might be an unforgivable, unprofessional disappointment, worthy of a refund. In this case, it had an easy open mic quality that made it seem even more like the audience was at home. Comfortable. And the standing O demonstrated how much the audience appreciated feeling that way.

I have been a longtime fan of Shawn Colvin, so when I had the opportunity to see her at the Uptown Theatre in Napa I thought it would be a wonderful way to spend the evening, and a weekend away. Shawn has evolved into a lovely and mature performer. She plays guitar with a deceptively easy sureness and her singing is filled with passion and awareness, every note perfect and alive. She interacted with the audience in a comfortable and friendly manner, making everyone feel as if we were all gathered in a cozy living room for an evening of informal entertainment. The Uptown Theatre in Napa was a refreshing surprise! Downtown Napa is a mixture of older and quaint with hip and hew. Just before entering the theatre for the show there was an amazing double rainbow over the church steeple across the street from the theatre. It was amazing and beautiful, and a good omen predicting a wonderful show. I've grown more and more unwilling over the years, to see shows at the big venues, and so discovering this lovely renovated Art Deco style theatre in the heart of Downtown Napa in the midst of wine country will spur me to take time out every once in awhile to see a show and have a weekend away from my otherwise very busy life. I would highly recommend seeing Shawn Colvin wherever she might be performing and also heartily recommend seeing any show that might strike your fancy at the lovely Uptown Theatre in Napa. It was wonderful, and just what i needed!

The Napa Uptown Theatre has just opened with a barrage of announced shows through the end of the year. I just saw Lisa Loeb open for the amazing Shawn Colvin. AWESOME !! This was only the second live show at the Uptown. The place has been totally renovated and beer and wine are served in the seating area. All shows are 21 and up. Lisa Loeb came out promptly at 8 PM and was a delight. She said this was her first show since her daughter was born six months ago and she was nervous. The crowd laughed and showed their appreciation for Lisa who sounded great and spent a lot of her time talking with the audience intersperced with songs. It seemed much of her set was impromtu with Lisa taking requests from the audience. Shawn Colvin was amazing Very polished ! Both artists played acoustic sets; just them and their guitars!. Great Show. Shawn did a three song encore for the delighted crowd. SEE HER LIVE!!

Shawn Colvin is charming, engages the audience and sings like she plays her guitar, masterfully. Having seen her twice before, the Coach House-Capistrano affords the audience an intimate setting to connect with the performer. Colvin didn't disappoint covering a wide swath of her material including some surprise, seemingly improv numbers. Neil Young never sounded better. Everytime I hear her do Sting's "Every little thing she does is magic", if you didn't know better, you'd think it was her song. Her vocals were captivating and her guitar was terrific.

20 years later and this album seems more timely than ever. Have seen Shawn Colvin a number of times before, but never with a band. A special treat with Larry Campbell and Teresa Williams--great opening act and then performed beautifully with Shawn Colvin. And no better venue than the Birchmere--50 years of history, not a bad seat in the house, the chance to relax and enjoy a beer with dinner, and super warm people who really know music. I hope to catch some of it on utube so I can at least enjoy her remarkable talent. Luckily I did take out insurance, but my gawd what hoops I have to jump through Allianz to get the $136 back. If we had children, I'm sure they would have wanted me to put them up as collateral. I hope she comes back into the Bay Area soon so we really can see and enjoy her talent in person.

Speaking on behalf of the band as well as herself, Shawn expressed her love for the city that has embraced her at numerous live performances over the years: "Seattle, we are your bitches." Well, Ms. Colvin, the feeling is mutual. Shawn Colvin reprised her 20-year-old album "A Few Small Repairs" last night at the Moore Theatre in Seattle. Performing with a full band, the entire album was presented in all its deliciousness song-by-song, from beginning to end. And then for good measure an extended encore capped an incredible evening. As one who has listened to that album dozens of times, getting to see and hear the whole of it performed in person was a dream come true and gave me an enhanced appreciation for Shawn's skills as a songwriter and musician. The only disappointment was once she played the final track I couldn't hit a button on a remote control and play the songs all over again from the beginning.

I have seen Shawn several times solo so I was excited to see her with a band. I was not disappointed. While I would have like to hear more of a cross-section of her songs everything was great. Sound was good and people were quiet and listened. My wife and I engoyed it.

It's such a privilege to see these ladies. Great performances individually and together. They have such a great connection to the audience. Glad they still get out there and play hard for us to enjoy.

OC Music Pier is a small venue and provided a wonderful setting for an acoustic set. Joan Osborn performed first and treated us with a collection of Dylan obscurities and a few classics.

I have seen Shawn Colvin multiple times in various venues, This performance was one of the best! She played solo which I love, and it was uncut! I loved it! If you are a true fan, you will appreciate this performance for its pure display of her raw talent and charm. Not to be missed!

A very nice show. Both played their hit's and new songs for about ninety minutes. It was a little slow, but what I expected.

First of all , the show is an acoustic evening with no band present. They also did not advertise or promote the show as such. Secondly , the whole show is the new record , which in my opinion is weak at best with only a couple cuts worthwhile , and the album is half full of weak covers. At the end they did do a couple each of their own previous "hits" so the audience was at least familiar with those songs. They did very little to energize the crowd which pretty much sat on their hands and yawned through the set. Colvin made an attempt to somewhat engage the crowd while Earle seemed bored with the whole thing. The crowd also seemed taken back by Earle's "F" bombs all evening long. Hey Steve : that works with 20 yr olds.....grow up your supposed to be a professional !!!!!

One cannot pick a better place to attend a music performance than the Birchmere. Still, i have to say that I don't think any other performer connects with the Birchmere audience than Shawn Colvin. She made the Birchmere come alive on Friday night with a mix of her intelligence, raw writing and singing talent and humor. Highly recommend.

I've been blessed to see Shawn Colvin live about a dozen times and she remains a soulful performer who always manages to give an incredible performance. This time was no different! With Stewart Smith on hand to play alongiside her, Colvin gave a tremendous show that tracked her most recent effort--ALL FALL DOWN--while incorporating classics from her earlier efforts. Thankfully, this show focused more on her music. Sometimes Colvin has a tendency to ramble between songs; this show featured a wise choice to minimize her train of thought so she could focus on delivering the music. Colvin still seems to endlessly devote time to tuning her guitar, but you still hang in there with her because the delivery of her songs is always pitch perfect. Only thing truly missing from the DC show was a guest spot from Mary Chapin Carpenter--Colvin's musical sister--who is out on tour. When they appear together. it's truly a trip ot musical heaven. However, even without Carpenter on hand, Colvin on her own is nothing short of paradise!

This is the 4th or 5th time I've seen Shawn Colvin. She's always delightful. The addition of Stuart ?Shaw? in the 2nd half of the set was great--complemented her style and added depth to the music

a little boring...left early....too mellow....she kept stating that she wants to play new songs....pretty voice but I went to see her old music because I am old...i don't follow her new stuff...I don't own a cd player..whatever...she was ok and can and play guitar better than I so I give her points for that..

I've seen Shawn twice before. The last few times she was just solo acoustic. I thought that she was much better the last time I saw her. Although she was very warm and funny, the set was somewhat lackluster, which was surprising since she kept telling the audience how much she loves performing at the Somerville Theatre.

I first saw her in concert in the mid-90s, at the Zoo in Denver. That time, she was with her band. Most recently, I saw her on the "Three Girls and their Buddy" tour with Emmylou Harris, Patty Griffin and Buddy Miller. But this solo show at the Somerville Theater was my favorite yet. Just Shawn and her guitar. And fans so true and appreciative that she granted their wishes for songs from the past. It didn't matter that she never got around to playing 'Shotgun...' or 'Sunny...' --- she was at her best, in great voice and at one with her instrument. She seemed to appreciate us as much as we appreciated her. If you have a chance to see her, GO...

Shawn Colvin has an amazing voice that I could never get tired of listening too. Her version of Gnarls Barkley's Crazy was fantastic. Loads of new stuff from the new Album, loved All Fall Down and oldies that stood out were Polaroids and Tennessee. Great show.

Shawn Colvin sang like an Angel, and truly loved playing with Buddy and Viktor. Buddy did not step up to an audio presence untilo the end, and he was wonderful... wish he had done more than strum quietly earlier!! Amy Cook was downright Terrible. She screeched, couldn't play or sing and gave a poor performance.

Leave it to Shawn Colvin to make misery sound like so much fun! New material dominated the show and no one minded a bit. Buddy Miller provided subtle accompaniment but it would have been nice to see him break out a bit more, he's so talented. Viktor Krauss kept the beat and Amy Cook was a welcome find..

Not since the days of the Cottonwood Cafe in the village in New York City have i seen Shawn Colvin in such a intimate setting. This performance was clearly a return to form both on stage and on record for Shawn. The songs sounded like early Shawn, not only in voice but in the textured layerings of the music behind the words. Buddy and Viktor are perfect compliments for Shawn and her music. They are never overwhelming, yet what they contribute adds so much to her songs. The new songs were as strong as the older ones. The audience was quiet and mesmerized. I wish she had done two nights so that I could see her again.

Shawn Colvin always puts on a good show! I really admire musicians who can hold a show on their own. She came out and performed her songs solo with a guitar. The best part about her shows is hearing about the Adventures of Shawn Colvin. She has the greatest stories. I love the way she lets her fans into her life and tells them hilarious antics that she experiences. She was talking about a show and how Mary Chapin Carpenter performed with her. As she's telling the story, she invites Mary Chapin Carpenter to come out. (THE CROWD WENT APE-BLEEP!!!) What a rich sound when the two are playing! Their voices are complement each other well! It was a great preview for their upcoming tour in the summer, which will be a MUST-SEE obviously!!!! Love how these two engage with the audience! If you go to their Facebook pages, you'll probably see all of the back and forth regarding their shows.

Brought on Mary Chapin Carpenter for most of show, which would have been cool if 2/3 songs, but went to see SC play and not a duet. Mad love for both and I'm sure cool for them as they are friends, but for fans it wasn't great.

I have seen Shawn Colvin in concert at least (!) a dozen times - she is my all-time favorite. Unfortunately, this was one of her worst shows (the other was when she showed up with a horrible head cold back in Michigan about 15 years ago). She didn't interact with the audience as much as she usually does (except for a cute story about her daughter), she made several mistakes (normally not an issue as she'll make fun of herself), and she sang only her darkest songs. I think she is INCREDIBLY talented, smart, witty, interesting, and truly wonderful, but I wonder if she shouldn't have canceled this show - she didn't seem interested in being there at all. Too bad - I had really been looking forward to it.

I have been waiting for over ten years to see Shawn Colvin in concert. It must be fate that I saw her perform up close and personal at the Williamsburg Lodge. There were two shows that evening and I had suddenly wished that I had purchased tickets for the second show in addition to the first show. The quality of her music is second to none. When you are performing solo, there is nothing that can be hidden. As a fan, I would not wish the show to be any other way then Shawn's composition, excellent guitar and voice. This type of entertainment comes only once or twice in a lifetime.

I rated this 3 stars not because of quality of the show, but because of quantity. I was pleased with the acoustics and her songs. But 60 minutes is way too short. It isn't worth my time driving here (esp since I came from out of town) for 60 minutes. I expected a minimum of 90 minutes. I guess I expect a concert to be similar to a movie - who pays/goes to a move that is only one hour in duration? I think she is very talented with a beautiful voice, and have heard her in the past. When she walked off the stage, we were in disbelief.

Shawn Colvin's voice is as strong and beautiful as ever. With her complicated signature note-bending and expressive guitar, she remains one of the finest female singers performing today. My only complaint -- she only played 1 hour and 15 minutes (including audience suggested encores).

I have seen Shawn Colvin in a quartet of women and their guitars and have loved her music for years, but she was amazing alone on stage with just her guitar. I took my young daughter who has listened to her music every night since she was born and we only stayed for the first hour, but what we heard was just wonderful. Could have listened to her all night and her story telling was as much fun as her music. What a treat!

Didn't know what to expect -- Shawn Colvin at the Williamsburg Lodge? But the caberet-style setting was intimate and suited her and her music perfectly. Bet it would have been nice to see both shows (there were seatings at 6 and 9pm; we saw the 9pm); wonder if she mixed up the setlists...

It was a joy to hear and see Shawn in person: the purity and beauty of that voice, the mastery of the guitar playing - both driven by genuine passion. She's the "real deal" - God put her in the world to sing. Steve was terrific too, but for my buck, Shawn owned the show.
