B.B. King

B.B. King is in his late 80s, but the King of Blues is still on stage with his band and his famous guitar Lucille more than 100 nights a year -- a tour schedule that would tax many artists a quarter of his age. He's without a doubt the most well-known and successful living blues artist in the world.

Grading on the curve of "almost 90 year-old music legends who still tour", it was a solid B+/A-. Grading on the regular curve... his band was really good: great keyboards, great bass, amazing horns, especially the trumpet player. King can still play, and he can still sing. The genius is evident. Unfortunately, much of the time it seemed like the genius had wandered into the room and then forgot what it was doing there. He took the stage fairly late, and by the time his people decided it was time for him to call it a night, I'm not sure he had done much more than an hour. Many of the "tracks" were long, meandering versions with the band moving things along the best they could and King knocking out a few key chords or verses here and there along the way. It's a good thing jazz and blues musicians are all about riffing and improv. At least I got to see him do The Thrill is Gone, and that was one of the more coherent/cohesive tracks. Sadly, the title seemed all too apropos. Hey - I just hope that if I live to be 89 I can remember my own name. The scene at the end of the show was moving: half of the audience crowded the stage to take pictures of him, because, right or wrong, there was a very palpable sense that he might not have much time left. The harmonica player for the opening act (a local blues trio, Stoney B Blues - YMMV) was amazing, and the lounge band after the show while I waited for traffic to clear out was actually really good, too. I understand why they need to do it, but when the venue binds all the seats together with ZipTies, it makes for REALLY close quarters - uncomfortably close. The view was very good. The audio engineer had Lucille turned up WAY too high, and King's crates kept rattling and buzzing - not the good way. You could get lucky, and you might get B.B. on an "ON" night. If you've seen him, you probably don't want to remember him this way. If you haven't, you probably still don't want to remember him this way.

Been a BB fan since the 60's and have seen him several times over the years. always put on a great show. Over the last couple years he's been getting some not so good reviews ,but people still have been kind. Now at the age of 88 I wanted to see and support him again for all his many , many years of musical accomplishment's . Just getting to 88 is a big deal ! Sold out crowd and he got a standing ovation when he walked out on stage unassisted. You can tell he really loved still being on stage and had a big smile for most of the show. Being about 10 feet away was like having him in your living room! his voice was still clearly BB and stronger than I expected. The age showed and he only was on stage for a little over an hour. Ended with the THRILL IS GONE and the house was on it's feet. The crowd treated him with the respect he deserves but not sure everyone was happy with the show. For me personally I would have liked to see an amazing man and woman singer telling stories about BB and singing those great BB King tunes with his still strong band. No one sounds like BB and with those great songs of his they don't have to. then have BB come out for the finally ( The Thrill is gone of coarse). The place would have gone nuts and I'm sure would have felt they got their money's worth for the price of a $65.00 ticket. BB KING an AMAZING MUSICIAN! SO GLAD HE'S STILL WITH US !!!!!!!

Expensive tickets worth it for a for a blues icon; however, the House of Blues venue was poor with limited acoustics, views, and expensive drinks. The performance was advertised to start at 7:30PM but finally started at 9:30PM. During the two hours wait there was an interim "artist" , who apparently was a student. Due to the poor venue and the two hour delay there is no way I could recommend this event. Actually the ticket price should be refunded.

Absolutely great. He started everything for alot of performers and we could see why. We would love it if he did a concert with special appearances and performances with guest musicians like Eric Clapton etc.

As he reminded us, on more than one occasion, he's now 87 years old! To imagine that such an icon is still present with us, that such a great part of history with regards to his craft, walks among us still, is amazing in itself. He may have sat down on a chair in front of the stage the entire time he was there, but that in NO WAY impeded his performance. He was, is and always shall remain a legend. Mr. King showed us his more than humorous side, his sensitive side as well as his romantic side, at one point asking all the ladies in the audience to find someone they'd like to kiss and to plant one on them. I am happy to have been even a small portion of this man's incredible career, and will be sad the day that it's all over. If you like rhythm and blues, then see him now, and see him as often as you can. For he is a giant among men.

Although this was my first Blues concert I was completely entertained and wowed by BB and his band. The opening act was outstanding as well. The atmosphere is wonderful and I loved that I could be very close to see a Blues legend. Hats off to BB at 87! If only we could all be that strong towards the end of our life. Ps. I super appreciated his band members signing my portrait of BB King and Lucille for my parents Christmas present! Thank you, Thank you, Thank you from far away Vermont.

We were so amazed at the show. BB has an amazing voice and gift for music and he told us the stories behind a lot of the songs he performed. It was like being a personal friend sitting at his house with him. We loved it. The Howard Theater had an incredible atmosphere but the food left a little to be desired. The service was good though.

Fantastic, 1 week away from 87 and the man can still play and sing the blues better than the rest. Worth every penny and every song. Played and talked for 1 1/2 hours then sat for another 15 minutes talking to the crowd and tossing out picks, handing out necklaces to the ladies.

This is our 4th time seeing BB in concert in the past 15 years, and he is still a hit wherever he goes. Some oldies, and mostly new songs, he still has that unique BB style that sets him above and apart from most artists. We all Love you BB and wish you well on your upcomming 87th Birthday 9/16/12, and for many more years to come! Please take care of Lucille, and she will continue to take care of you...

This concert had it all: great artists, amazing band members, an aray of songs, a spectacular setting (congrats to the sound man) with perfect sound and lights, Even the moon accomodated by being full and rising up over the stage at a poignant moment adding magic to the scene. BB was in spunky form engaging the audience with such energy and humor. Trucks tore it up!! Slow hand like Eric Clapton and passion like Stevie Ray all mixed in. And, Susan, well she continues to amaze with her vocal range and interpretaions. GREAT CONCERT!

B.B. King was outstanding. He played incredibly well, sang like his heart was in it, and was an admirable presence on stage. He was instantly lovable with his virtuoso playing, powerful voice, and wearing a big smile the entire set. I felt so honoured to be within 25 feet of B.B. King. He is still such a phenomenal singer, and (while he famously stays on the pentatonic scale during most of his solos,) I am not sure if his guitar playing could get any better. He was hilarious and I had so much fun. I thought that it could have been lame given he is almost 87 years old, but he impressed me with everything he played and every song he sung. Probably the best concert I'll ever go to. Tedeschi Trucks band is hard to say sometimes, but they were also excellent. I am not as familiar with their music, but they sure delivered. Slide guitar is not nearly as exciting for me to listen to, but other than Duane Allman, Derek Trucks is the best there is. Susan Tedeschi has an outstanding voice. I always knew that, but she really filled the room and was an excellent frontman(woman?). Her guitar playing is getting really good too. Between having no idea what their songs are and not having the most interest in softer/alternative rock, I didn't know what to expect. From the first song to their second encore, they were outstanding.

Even in his old age, BB King charmed the audience. His Guitar playing is no longer great and he spoke to the audience as much as he sang, but it was still a memorable event. My only disappointments were that he played too short of a set (barely over an hour) and most of his songs were not his more famous ones. After an hour went by, a very old gentleman came on stage and stopped the show by his presence. I am assuming it is BB's Agent/Manager and he must have the power to decide when the show is over. BB looked like he could have played all night though. The best part of the show was when BB spontaneously sang "How Blue Can You Get" after getting the request from someone in the audience. His previous setlists published online did not include this song.

He just seemed a little out of it. When introducing everyone on stage, he introduced his best friend & called his daughter on stage twice before even performing. He was humorous & entertaining, but it seems that his age has caught up with him. Once he got into his music though, it was like he was 30 years younger, killing it! I LOVE BB KING, & his music, it just seemed a little awkward at times.

B.B. King is absolutely amazing. I saw him two years ago, and he was excellent, and that's why I went again. His onstage presence is awesome, and more so than before. His addition of more comedy and involving the audience more, makes me want to see him again. As long as he appears, I hope he comes again to Atlanta area, so I can again, see the man of massive talent.

This was an incredible night of the blues with the Legendary BB KING! I was lucky enough to score a front row center seat right in front of the man himself. It was amazing to be so close and witness him playing Lucille and singing his songs throughout the evening. For a man who is 86 years old, he has incredible stamina and I really wasn't expecting him to play any longer than what he did. His voice is still very strong. This was the 2nd time I've seen BB--the first time was way back in 1987 when he opened up for U2 while filming the "Rattle and Hum" movie. Of course, that was 24 years ago and we've all gotten a bit older. But I can tell you, the man still has IT. Being so close to him, I was able to catch a couple guitar picks and even got an autograph from him after the show, which I will cherish for the rest of my life. Thank you BB King, for being such an inspiration to me and so many others.

I am one of B.B. Kings biggest fans and have attended more than 30 of his concerts. This last concert made me very sad...because I knew this day would eventually come. In the past, B.B. has been a sensational performer and a magnificent musician. Last night, he was disoriented and didn't complete his play list. His band looked lost and not sure where he was going with his performance. It was the first time that I left a concert before it ended. At least I have wonderful memories of his past performances.

Got my tickets the moment they went on sale, FRONT ROW, first time ever at a concert like this. First band was excellent... Then the KING! Great intro, his band jamming, horns, base, keyboard, drums, they just really got you revved up! And then, the introduction of BB and the place erupted. You can tell this guy just LOVES what he does and has genuine affection for his audience. He interacted with many personally, even leading the whole place in singing happy birthday to an audience member. He played many of his great songs including a particularly great rendition of rock me baby . He band is phenomenal, worthy of seeing by themselves even without BB but with.... it was a show to remember. Thanks you BB King, we in Portland look forward to your return. Hope to see you at the river front blues festival next summer!

This was my first time seeing BB King, and my first time at Club Nokia in Los Angeles. I didn't know what to expect, but the experience was great. At 86 years of age, BB King continues to put on a show and rock the house. A love of music, women, and and enjoyment of life can help a man live long and be young at heart. Whereas the songs of many styles of music are performed live in it's normal album form, this show's songs were noteably longer, supplemented with BB's monologue of audience motivation, interaction, story-telling, and humor (as is the improvisational nature of jazz and blues). Club Nokia is a small venue, and this provides a close & personal experience with the artist. The bar was impressive...sleek, minimalist, and futuristic, with neon ambience lighting that changes color, resembling a bar in Star Trek or Tron.

Cannot tell you how disappointed we were! Waited over 4 hours watching other bands (they were good, but not what we came for) and when BB King FINALLY took the stage (only after we sat listening to his band play 2 long songs without him) he seemed confused... long intro of the band.... couldn't remember all of their names. He chatted with the audience while the band played softly behind him, gawked at women dancing, but never sang a complete song! He sang MOST of the first one, and only bits and pieces of two more. After that the lights came on, he threw picks to the audience up front, started signing autographs, and it was OVER! Unbelievable!!! We drove six hours, paid for meals and hotel, over one hundred dollars PER ticket and THIS is what we got???? Don't waste your money unless you just want to see him talk into the microphone for a bit and sing the chorus of 2 or 3 songs. Don't expect much guitar playing from him, either. I realize this man is old, and that he is a legend, but if he is still touring, one should still expect him give a good performance. If he can't, he should call it quits or at least let people know NOT to expect much out of him. My husband and I left feeling like his band is taking advantage of the BB King name just to sell some tickets. Can't believe ANYONE gives this concert a ranking above 1. I would've given NO STARS if that were an option!! NOT WORTH A PENNY!!!

Great concert... Leon did not play many old songs, which we really wanted to hear since it had been so long since we had heard him. Delbert was really good, played alot of upbeat music, got the crowd going.. As for the one and only BB, he was great! Better than back in the old days at Mother Blues in Dallas. He has very talented men backing him up, not that he needs back up, but they opened before he came onstage and were very good. Once BB came out, crowd went wild, he took his seat, visited with the crowd some and then he and Lucille went to town! I can only hope that I will be able to see him again. Opening by Kenny Wayne Shepherd. Good performance, but they should keep in mind they are a blues band not a boys band. the attempt to do fancy poses is weird. About the King: I went to the concert aware that he's 86 years old. And he delivered. As someone told here, he talks and tells a lot of stories, but he sings and plays and tries to interact with the crowd. A great artist that is worth seeing. Two surprising details: - no problem bringing my camera (DSLR) but no flash photos and absolutely no video. - B.B. King takes his time and give autographs after the concert. If you have a poster and a pen, he will sign it for you. It was easy to get close to the stage for that.

Buddy Guy was off the hook! BB seemed a little out of it, but he IS 85 after all. Not only did the performance begin 10 minutes late, the scheduled performer did not arrive on stage for another 15 minutes. Would have been better if when he tells little stories and speaks to the audience, that he remembered to lean into the mike, (he does only when singing or playing guitar). Venue's home office doesn't take into account locals with limited budget - they're aiming at big roller tourists.

Rough night. B.B. seems gaunt and frail (see pic) and needed handlers to bring him to his seat. He spent more time making jokes, faces at the band and/or the audience than singing or playing. His booming voice showed its power only a few brief moments all night, primarily during "The Thrill is Gone." And his famous vibrato technique is gone, although we did see some of those string bends. Other than during "Thrill" and "Darlin, You Know I Love You," B.B. seemed completely out of touch with the show and his band. I hate to use the dementia word, but it sadly seems to fit. His family should let him retire with grace, and not parade him out as a shell of his greatness. Seeing B.B. King for the first time was a "bucket list" item for me, so it was cool to see this legend play, but I did it a few years too late.

BB King was amazing, it just seemed like it went so fast. I know he's older so I took that into consideration, but two more songs for all the money I paid would have been GREAT. But BB himself said he wasn't allowed to sing another song, guess it was a time to be done by contract. The venue was nice and up close and personal, which I loved, not too many people.

BBKing has so much musical talent! He is amazing! Even in his older ages, his voice is incredible. What an honor to see him live "in performance". It was very disappointing though, as a majority of his performance was a "sing along" and interactive conversation with people in the front rows. It was a bit sad that he had troubles remembering the band member names, but he is getting up there in age and it is simply incredible that he even performed at all... I attribute the lack of "performing" this to his old age - it is the reality of life. I mean no disrespect, as I admire his talent and am so glad to have heard him live, but I did expect to hear more songs than were provided. Although my seats were comfortable, it was not worth the money to buy better seats for this event. I wish my phone took better photos, as the ones I have provided do not do the musicians justice. I really love how they still dress the way they did "back in the day" - true professionals in the music industry.

I recommend anyone having the chance to see BB King in Concert if nothing else for the contribution he has made to the Music Industry. Although he doesn't perform much while on stage now (God Bless Him... he is 88), when he does put "LUCILE" to work... he's STILL AMAZING. But you can see that being on stage takes everything out of him. He has to be The Most HUMBLE Performer... Period! The connection he has with his audience, The Appreciation he shows and the Stories He Shares are PRICELESS! But I believe it's time for him to plan a graceful exit -- one befitting a Legend.

after an amazing 88 years on the planet most of us would be happy to be in bed at 8 pm with a hot chocolate but not the king oh no.BB still has the ability to play some fine tunes and enjoyed an intimate relationship with the crowd talking and sharing banter in between a set lasting maybe an hour.Yes the king may be past his prime but any fan of the blues would be mad not to share a couple of beers and listen to the king do his thing a truly unforgettable experience and all we can say is long live the king long live BB.

I have seen BB King years ago, and looked forward to the opportunity to see him again. I had great seats- 3rd row pit- and was thrilled to be there. I didn't feel like I got my money's worth though. There was more time spent introducing everyone in the band and giving them each a solo, and talking with a couple people in the audience then there was actual performing. I can only remember BB doing two songs, and they were interrupted with talking too. I left feeling a little disappointed. We paid $200 and drove 2 hours for a 1 1/2 hr show. He wasn't even allowed to do an encore because of time restrictions.

I was excited to finally see BB King. It was a bucket list event for me. I had my mind blown by the second opening act, Allen Toussaint. His abilities are pure genius. The Penn State beat Michigan song he wrote provided a rise from the audience. BB King came on and played a few songs. I was expecting more from the lyrical side but was glad to see the legend perform.

Waste of time and money. BB, you need to stop touring. I waited too long to see you. You were on my bucket list of concerts to see in my lifetime. He only played a few cords for each song, even The Thrill Is Gone. Such a disappointment for everyone around us, too. I don't want to hear stories about your extended family, or turn the house lights up several times to show us your friends in the audience. I paid good money to hear YOU play Lucille.

There is really nothing negative that can be said about BB King....still, at times, I wish that he had sung more and talked a little less. He has so many many songs but I don't think that he sang more than 5 or 6 songs total ? So, this is my only regret...otherwise, being there was absolutely fabulous and I'm not ashamed to say that, when he came up on stage, I actually had tears in my eyes. BB King is truly a legend, thank u!

First time I had an oppitunity to see B.B live. I'am a long time admirer of his music. However I found his and the band proformance lacking the intensity. I would never recommend his live show to any of my friends. Just stick to his recorded music.

The bulk of the show was B.B.'s somewhat incoherent rambling with his band quietly playing in the background. He really only played one song ("The Thrill Is Gone") and the rest of the time he sat back and watched his band perform. I suppose I shouldn't have expected much, given his age (87), but this was just sad.

BB King, at 87 years old is still going strong, and last night he delivered another memorable performance at the Pensacola Saenger Theatre. As one of the most prolific blues guitarists in the world, BB knows exactly how to bring an audience into his (and Lucille's) world. The show started out with just the band, and each member played a short solo to get the ball going and then they introduced the Master of Blues, Mister BB King to the delighted crowd. I had the pleasure of seeing BB the first time over 30 years ago in Washington DC, and his show tonight was just as impressive. BB can play the guitar like no other, and during one of his songs, I closed my eyes and just listened and the BB and music took me through time and permeated my being in a special way that only BB and Lucille can. His guitar playing is second to none, and the sound last night was crystal clear, so much so that when he plucked one not during a song, someone in the audience actually said 'ow'. BB has a way of bringing the crowd into the show with his unique presence, and his laid back way of going from singing and playing to talking to the audience in the middle of a song and telling a story about the song or his life. As BB said, he has been around for 87 years and seen things that most of us haven't, so he likes to pass on some of that in his shows. The stories he tells in words and with his guitar Lucille are ones that had the whole crowd singing, swaying, and tapping their hands to. From the audience participation version of 'You are my Sunshine' to the always amazing 'The Thrill is Gone', BB left everyone satisfied but always wanting more. After the show, BB came out of the back entrance of the theatre and was gracious in meeting people in public, taking some pictures, and signing a few autographs which is something that few artists of his caliber take the time to do anymore. BB is definitely one of the greatest and most influential musicians of our time, and seeing him is always a memorable experience.

Buddy Guy once again put on a blazing display of guitar magic, making one wonder what kind of force he is, if Eric Clapton is "god". He also showed his charisma and humor, and had everyone not rocked senseless eating out of the palm of his hand. Too bad he played less than an hour and didn't join BB onstage. BB was, well, BB. He is the most charismatic musical performer working today, bar none, even if he puts on more of a "show" than a rockin' blues jam ala Buddy. BB has slowed, and doesn't play much anymore, but he continues to field a tight, note-perfect band, this incarnation having a big band flavor, and BB still got that soul. BB is 84 now, and suffers from diabetes. He is more of a story teller now than bluesman, but anyone who didn't get a severe case of the warm fuzzies from him is immune to more than penicillin. There were, unfortunately, quite a few of such subhuman, drunk, or probably both organisms in the crowd, as they chatted away and even began to hoot and finally demand BB to "play some blues". Of course they couldn't hear BB for their own loutishness and obviously have no clue about the man they supposedly came to see/hear. I suspect you will see them at the Super Bowl.

B.B. King never fails to bring honor, dignity and respect along with his god given talent. Mr King being the concealment entertainer will have you laugh, bounce, sit back and bring you to your feet. His voice bellows through the auditorium as if he were just 17. The precision of his fingers on Lucille will leave you in awe. His band, how can I say this...... Rocks. He manages, more than any other performer, to give you the feeling that he, is there for you, rather than you for him. If you ever, Get Down Hearted Baby. I suggest you find B. B. WHen Buddy Guy came announcing, 'I FEEL GREAT", his guitar riffs proved he not only felt great, but lusciously was able to make his guitar speak to the crowwd. Every eye was on every note played as we were all on the edge of our seats wanting to be massaged by his music. When Buddy Guy walked through the middle of the Bethel Woods Ampitheater, 5,000 fans cheered while he played his guitar. What a showman, what a guitar player, what a concert. BB KIng's band warmed us up before the 83 year old and Lucille walked out on stage. His band treaterd us to outstanding solos, from multiple brass, a guitar, drums and keyboards. BB brought a tear to eyes of all when he played Keep My Grave Clean but had the fans cheering and standing as the master of blues guitar proved he hasn't lost his feel for life, music or the blues..

Mr. B.B. King is the consummate performer and entertainer. His wisdom acquired through his life's experiences transforms to his musical fingers & voice very much the same way a fine wine goes through the 'aging-process' and turns out a jewel and magnificent production. One just has to sit forward and become absorbed in the class-act and genius of this talent. To have experienced a moment in time with Mr. King is a blessing and privilege that no one quite understands until you get on the King ride and get wisked away by the spell-binding and charismatic allure of the best mix of the Blues imaginable. His heart and soul will reach out and change something within you, if you let it in. When his generosity wafes out your way, an awakening will lift your spirits and ease your own soul and tickle your senses and soften you for that moment in time. It's a rush, but a natural one from a man you may not personally know, but you'll think you've known him for a long time! Why? Because his musical lyrics and spoken voice will find those things we all hold in common and can relate to. Whether it be love, jealousy, selfishness or just to feel a part of the human experience, this man has the talent to pull it right out of you, to put you in your comfort zone, and allow you to laugh at life just a little bit and realize that things could be worse, but overall he helps one to realize just how wonderful life can be. So enjoy the journey! Thank you Mr. B.B. King

robert cray was awesome. when the music starts you feel it and thats what you're there for. Then appears the KING. Still has his humor and cool. SOMEONE should build him a super custom traveling throne (special chair) so he doesnt have to sit on a common hotel chair. Respect the King. He worked a lifetime to gain the reputation. Great event. FUN. EXCEPT for the obnoxious drunkards young and old. DTE should also work an exit strategy for the parking lot. attendants were hopelessly standing around while the drunks played bumper cars. We attended the concert at DTE. The Robert Cray Band Opened, with songs both old and new. There are 2 new members to the band and both drummer Kevin Hayes, and bassist Karl Sevareid are no longer with the band. Unfortunately there is no information as to why the band changed. I could tell the new group is not as tight as the former group. As always Robert Cray Rock the house with amazing songs, crisp highs. I'm sure once they've played together more they will tighten up. As for BB king. What can you say. someone who has been in the entertainment business as long as the Great BB King, you know how to put on a show. They rocked it out with everything from his classiscs to the newest songs. For 84 Years old, i am amazed how great he sounds. I feel the same way BB does, " I'll probably be singing or performing when they lay me to rest" BB has shown that when you love what you do, you can do it FOREVER!

House of Blues seating is a good setting but BB mostly talked and rarely played and never finished a song. I have seen him very many times from 1960 to 2013 but it is clear he is in poor health and not up to touring and should kick back, retire and rest. Or just play local gigs if he feels he has to and can. Priority seating for handicapped is also a great option. We left early, about halfway through.

The music and band were great until they introduced B.B. King and put a chair in the middle of the stage for him to sit on. It was disconcerting and unnerving to watch him hobble on stage with his handlers. I thought it odd that they would put someone on stage who can't even walk to his chair unaccompanied. King was clearly out of it. He appeared to be intoxicated or on drugs while on stage. Reports now say he wasn't feeling well and has canceled the rest of the tour. That is the right thing to do. The band seemed confused and unsure of what to do once he came on. You couldn't hear or make sense of much of what he was saying and he barely played. If he recovers and goes back on tour, I would pitch is as a special appearance by B.B. King as opposed to the showing being B.B. King. It wasn't. It was good music, but not B.B. King. All the best to a great artist - hope he feels better.

Worst concert of my life. Tickets lead you to believe you had an assigned seat. Yet when we arrived they were standing room only. The row and seat assignment were for them to keep track of how many tickets were sold.VERY MISLEADING! B.B.King was unable to play guitar, sing a single verse or even carry on a conversation with the audience. Why was the concert not cancelled??? A total waste of my money and time to travel to Chicago and stay in a hotel for a concert that never happened.DEVASTATED.

BB King is one of my heroes, which is why it was so painful to watch him at the House of Blues in Chicago. We walked out after an hour into his set when we realized that he had no idea where he was. In that hour, he hadn't played a single note, despite his band and his handlers trying desperately to get him to do anything other than mumble incoherently while sitting on stage. He didn't even seem to understand that he was holding a guitar. Afterwards, I read several other reviews from this year where people had similar experiences at his shows. This man is a legend and deserves to live out the remainder of his life in dignity. I'm not sure why he's being paraded in public in this state. It was very sad to watch.

I realize that BB King is 89 years old, and maybe people want to meet and greet him. Which is essentially what this concert was. The front row got to talk with him and shake his hand. The rest of the "concert" was rambling gibberish. BB King is a legend, but my appreciation of him is ruined as I will always remember the senile old man that I paid $45 to see and he never completed a song, missed all the notes, and couldn't remember what he was doing. There comes a time when it is time to stop touring and be honored at various events before you become an embarrassment. For BB King, that time was about 5 years ago.

There were a lot of cons for me in this show: - Opening act was "OK", couldn't sing, played average - The seats in the Comerica remind me of an airplane. No leg room or elbow room. - B.B. King came out around 9pm. His band is fantastic, He is fantastic but be warned. He talks ALOT which is fine but he took about half an hour introducing the band (sometimes twice) and he would only sing a few lines of each song. He still has it as far as playing the guitar and singing just realize he is 89 years old. I guess that's why at 1030pm the lights came up and his band told him it was time to go, in the middle of playing!!! He wanted to go on but they cut it off. Just weird!

I respect the man as a musician and what he has done in the past, but when he is mentally not into a show and cant hit chords, it is time for him to retire. Walter Trout and his band are phenomenal. Trout's fast picking and his amazing ability to make his guitar sing rock the senses. BB King, the original slow hand, was pure euphoria. The music plays BB, not the other way 'round. He seems to channel love and light through Lucille. BB's natural humility and love of his gift changes the soul of the listener forever. The Ryman is the perfect setting for these guys; intimate and the sound is brilliant. BB is the king and he still has the voice and the groove with the guitar; his set was more of a walk down memory lane, which was fine by me. First time to see Buddy Guy and he ripped it up ... awesome guitar player. Was a bit disappointed in B.B. King. Second time I've seen him at the Ryman but this show fell quite short of the previous event about 3 years ago. Of course, B.B. King is 85 years old but he seemed distracted quite a bit by the crowd ... didn't play that many songs, or many of the hits and seemed to lose his place a few times. Again, he's 85 so some of that is to be expected. That being said, both are legends and are worth the price of the ticket to see in person. The B.B. King Blues Band did their usual awesome job as well.
