I saw "Pippin" years ago with Ben Vereen and loved it. I loved this production even more! So full of fun surprises! The choreography incorporates gymnastics and magic and is simply astounding! Pippin's grandmother's number took down the house and still makes me smile. What a wonderful way to spend an evening!

I had never seen the production before and found it to be very entertaining. The singing, dancing, and magic tricks we top level. Since I am a senior I could relate to the story line and enjoyed the adlib comments by the narrator. Great show!

I'm writing this review over a month after seeing the show, but this should give people an idea of just how spectacular a show this was. Starting with the opening scene to the closing curtain this show will make you "oh" and "ah" as the cast performs stunts and acrobatics which would make Ringling Brothers jealous. On top of that, the singing and dialog keep you interested throughout the entire performance. Clearly, the cast spent long arduous hours practicing their roles and acrobatics. They stunned the entire audience and ... it didn't end until the curtain dropped.

I know it has now closed in Boston. It wouldn't take too much for something better to come in it's place. I didn't enjoy this theater experience much and I've seen quite a few plays of late. It just seemed misdirected, unfocused. While some praise the Cirque du Soleil going on, it really didn't seem in step with the story itself; it served only as a distraction. The King was fairly good (I know he was formerly Pippin with Ben Vereen) and I did enjoy Adrienne (sp?) Barbeau; especially the trapeze. Unreal she is 70; she still looks great! I just felt that most of the supporting cast was very weak; there was no "standout" song that brought the house down, nothing that added to the story line While Pippin was searching for himself and thought he would find it with what seemed exciting; it ends with him finding ordinary life kind of satisfactory (or did he?). It was hard to tell. There was NO finale, something to remember on your way home. The girl who played his "ordinary girlfriend" with the son reminded me of high school plays. The show needs some pizzazz; the moves are there I guess, but no one seemed all that excited to be there (the show ensemble). Even the talented circus performers (for lack of a better word) couldn't save this one. I left not liking it much at all; and I tried to like it.

This show will always be my favorite show. There are so many layers to it and the show takes on completely different meanings depending on how you look at it and how you interpret the lyrics (especially the Leading Player's). This show is not only a musical, but a circus act, with talented, powerful people doing wonderfully crazy things onstage. Come see the show and have the amazing songs stuck in your head for months.

My mom and I have never been to the Boston Opera House, may I say it was absolutely breath taking in there!!!! The musical started right on time, and right from the get go we were hooked in. The leading lady was FANTASTIC! She was funny, witty and had an amazing voice. Pippin was unbelievably cute and also had a great voice!!! The acrobatics were UNREAL, the choreography was fantastic, if I could of afforded seeing it the other showings it was open that weekend I would have gone again. SO SO GOOD!!!!!

This show is another one of Stephen Schwartz's (Wicked) masterpieces. It was wonderful to see the original Pippin, John Rubinstein, as Charles. No one could ever replace, Irene Ryan, the original Berthe but Adrienne Barbeau, gave a very nice performance. Brian Flores, Pippin, is very talented and this is the first of many roles he will have in what I suspect will be a long career on Broadway. Sabrina Harper as Fastrada and Bradley Benjamin as Catherine gave inspired performances. My son took us to the show on Saturday evening in Boston. I was unsure of how it would be to see a female leading player. Gabrielle McClinton embodied everything Ben Vereen did as the original leading player back in 1972. I am not able to afford to see many productions but I liked Pippin so much that the day after the show, I purchased tickets to see it again the following week. If you like Steven Schwartz's music and Bob Fosse's choreography, you will love Pippin!

This show was interesting but it was really choppy. I think they tried to pack too much into the show. It was a play, a musical, a magic show, it was a circus, it was acrobatics, it was TOO MUCH. Everything was done OK but nothing was GREAT!

Although it was well acted, I didn't feel that the story was that compelling. Also, the music was good, but not memorable. This is the first time I've been to a play, where while the cast came out to take their bows, people were leaving in droves.

My 12-yr-old granddaughter and I saw Pippin last week. There was not one minute of down-time. It was action packed from the moment the lights went down until the curtain dropped. Acrobatics, dance, song and magic made the show one of the best ever.

The first thing people ask when I say I saw Pippin is, "What's it about?" That is hard to fully describe because it is theatre on many levels. It is a musical with catchy, memorable tunes; it is a show full of illusion and acrobatics to rival Cirque du Soleil; it is a thoughtful drama about life and self-discovery. There were quite a few people who brought small children; there is adult language and some scenes that might not be considered appropriate for them. Adrienne Barbeau is wonderful in her role as the grandmother. Those who remember her as Maude's daughter will marvel at her acrobatic skills at age 70! Overall, Pippin is a great experience.

I love Diane Paulus's work and the concept for this revival of Pippin sounded exciting and fresh. I saw it with a friend and we were both so disappointed! Admittedly, I knew virtually nothing about the play itself. The worst part was the score: The songs were blah, and I left the theatre without one song in my head. I could not hum even one the next day. The singing was not bad, but did not quite fill the large Opera House as well as it should have. The acting itself was good but not outstanding. I did enjoy the acrobatics, etc., but that should have complemented an otherwise good show, not be the best part. In a season of great shows (Waitress, Beautiful, Once), this was the low point by far.

Pippin was incredible!!! I went with my 2 friends, and we all enjoyed the show. I was impressed with the acrobatics at times you didn't know who you should be watching! Brian Flores (Pippin) & Gabrielle McClinton (Leading player) were my 2 favorites. They were both very good in their parts and had very good voices. My favorite songs are magic to do, corner of the sky, glory, simple joys, morning glow! I would definitely recommend it!

A much appreciated update to an exciting but predictable musical if you've been before. All the performers - the Leading Player, Pippin, the Kng (the original Pippin) and especially Berthe were all wonderful. The magic, illusions and gymnastics were like watching Cirque de Soleil. My biggest gripe is with the theatre. The ushers were snarly and their union contracts must allow them to be drunk on the job. The seating is horrible. We were in the front part of the left mezzanine - fantastic view of the full stage, faces, everything -- all except for the fact that the seats are arranged such that even a medium height person was right in the middle of my line of view. Other seats could see between seats in front, not mine - this guy was straight in front. For $120 plus ticketmaster fees, I expected a much better experience.

Well this production did not live up to my expectations. I thought that there would be much more circus type acts. Also thought that the overall play would be for an adult audience, instead it came across as a play for very young children. Left right after the start of the second act.

Pippin is a charming show. The story follows a young man who believes he can do better than living an ordinary life, and who learns what truly matters to him; all the while he is being coaxed by a cirque de soleil style acrobatic troupe who bring thrills to every moment. The dancing and the tricks were superb. The lead singer is just mediocre and her opening number made us worry the show would be disappointing. But the company bolstered her weakness with enthusiasm and dance. We were able to "wow" about the high wire acts and acrobatic tricks and pay less attention to the songs. Time flew during Pippin. Emotional and moving scenes were well-done. Silly, fun scenes were fantastic. Adrienne Barbeau as the grandmother had us believing she was older, pretty and wise, and then she blew us away with her surprising scene that made the show worth the price.

Pippin at the San Diego Civic Theater was a mixed bag. The Good: The show itself (well written and acted) The visuals (lighting, sets and costuming) The orchestra sounded great The Bad: The words of the songs were impossible to understand because the power to the speakers were so high that we couldn't make out the words from the actors. It if wasn't for the closed caption board I think my wife an I would have missed most of the story line. I'm not sure if this is because of the shows tech team or the theater's but I will soon know as I'm going to The Phantom of the Opera there next month. So I may update this review later. I still think it was a decent show and I would recommended in a different venue.

My husband and I have done the show Pippin twice. I was a little Leary when I knew the show had changed up so much....but it was totally awesome. We took our 17 year old granddaughter who is a theater lover and performer and watching it through her eyes was even better, Luci Arnaz stole the show for me. We are of similar age and what she did was just outstanding. The music was expertly sung and performed, there was never a slow moment in the show and I was sad when it was over, We did the Meet and Greet and my husband, who had played Pippin in our production, got to meet John Rubenstein, He was most gracious and accepting of talking to us and have a photo shot with my husband and granddaughter, He is a real class guy. All of the performers and stars were top notch, I don't have a single negative comment for the whole experience, I wish I could see it again!

I saw Pippin on Broadway 15 months ago. It is one of my all time favorite musicals originally coming out when I was in high school. This revival is thrilling. Diane Paulus and the creative staff did an incredible job keeping the original concept of the show and expanding to make it new and exciting. I originally bought my ticket to see Kyle Selig and Lucie Arnaz in the show. They were bumped for the original Broadway stars Matthew James Thomas and Andrea Martin. While I wish I had seen Kyle- I saw him go on as Elder Price in The Book of Morman at the Pantages and he was beyond incredible; if I couldn't see him I was glad to see the original Broadway revival Pippin. It was especially cool to the the first Broadway Pippin from 1972 John Rubinstein who know has a very fun take of the role of Charles. Sasha Allen and the rest of the cast are all excellent. The ensemble of singer/dancers and circus performers is a dream. Matthew has grown in the role and his nuance and subtleties bring even more to the performance. He has it all. Andres Martin stops the show like no one you have seen in years. The singing and dancing are perfection. The acrobatic and circus acts send this high powered show into stratosphere. This is definitely not a show to miss. I have seen some excellent shows at the Pantages (as well as some sub par ones) but this is one of the all time best. I am going back to see it one more time at the Pantages and at another stop on the tour. Matthew and Andrea are not continuing with the tour and they are fabulous. See them before they leave!

A good effort by young cast. However the overall production is on the level with that of a theme park/criuse ship show. If you re satisfied with that or want to support young adults working on their theatre skills then by all means go. It definitely seemed well attended by cast family members. But, if you re seeking a professional style Broadway/Off Broadway level of a production then this isn t it.

Pippin is my favorite show ever so it would be hard to mess it up and the Conservatory kids are extraordinary. It's a shame they weren't allowed to do any of the acrobatics but most of those moves require a professional so it was probably safer for them to keep their feet on the ground. I've seen the show 10 times in 8 different cities and none of the professional leads were any better than these kids, particularly the girl playing Berthe. Kudos to the Conservatory!

What a great production!!! I was glad to see the updated version of this musical. I loved the acrobatics and dancing. The quality of performances was great. I liked seeing the show at Foxwoods. There was so much to do while waiting for the show to start. The cup holders at the seats. I have to say the staff did a great job accommodating us too. There was a handicapped person sitting in front of us and their seat was really high so we couldn't see the stage for half the production. Someone must have said something and the staff moved the handicapped person and we were able to see the rest of the show. The staff handled that well.

Visually this musical was very stimulating and entertaining. However the story line, or lack there of, left much to be desired. The costumes, acrobatics and voices of the ensemble were fantastic. It was obvious how incredibly talented the cast was. The story itself was impossible to follow and the promised finale climax was a huge let down and honestly put a damper on the whole experience. Another thing to note was the fact that the sexual scenes sprinkled throughout the performance was completely unnecessary and seemed like it was thrown in to add some shock value that seemed so out of place.

Unexpected surprise by repetitive sexual references including one scene with simulated sex act on stage in cage. Made both my wife and I very uncomfortable and decided to leave at intermission. Wasn't really familiar with what to expect but with what research we did before and even after seeing show to see if we missed something, it all sounded good and surprised that there was no mention or warning anywhere that show may not be suitable for all theatre goers. I don't think we were alone as there were several who brought their kids to this show. My wife talked with co-worker who went to next day weekend showing and was also surprised by what she saw. Don't usually write reviews but thought I needed to put this out there for those who may be uncomfortable with this type of subject matter and not fall into same trap we did.

This was our second time seeing Pippin, with a different cast from the first aside from a few of the acrobatic performers and Charlemagne (John Rubinstein). We arrived just as the lights fell and the silhouette of the Leading Player appeared on the curtains. I anxiously awaited the initial curtain drop and from that point on, I was enthralled in the story once more. The acrobatics were breathtaking and impressive. The jugglers, balancers and dancers were all in sync. The singers all had very strong and distinct voices. I was thrilled to see Priscilla Lopez as Berthe, who also originated the role of Morales in A Chorus Line. Gabrielle McClinton was a strong Leading Player, able to match my previously established love of the character by Ben Vereen and Patina Miller. I was particularly impressed by Brian Flores as Pippin who made his theater debut quite well in this role. And of course John Rubinstein will always be my favorite Charles for both his talent and his history with the musical. Overall it was an excellent performance and the audience we were in enjoyed all of the laughs and music.

Absolutely LOVED the first act!! Second started positive but then like a plane on fire went downhill fast ..Where the performers did an incredible job the direction and story fell flat.

Interesting presentation. A story, music, dance, magic and a circus. I don't think you'll find this anywhere else. A lot of fun!

Entertaining, great show. Told an amazing story! The songs and personalities of Pippin make it endearing. Loved the ending! Truly a fantastic show!! The leading player has one of the most amazing voices I've ever heard, she really stole the show!!

The dancing, singing and acrobatics were fantastic. The story line was also great. It was a show that I didn't want to end. We had studied the plot and listened to the music prior to attending but you must put it all together to appreciate it fully. Each cast member was stronger than the next. Over all it is now one of my favorites!

Very much enjoyed the theatrics, singing and dancing, Extremely talented cast who appeared to be having a good time. Not necessarily a production suitable for the many preteen and teen individuals who were in the audience. Maybe an adult content warning would have been good.

One of the first dates I took my "wife to be" on was to see the Original Pippin on Broadway with Ben Vereen and a young John Rubinstein as Pippin. It was one of the best shows we had ever seen. 40Plus years later, we have just seen a revival with John Rubinstein playing the part of King Charles. To be honest, we thought the revival would be an emphasis on circus and spectacle. It turned out to be a revival that captured the true spirit of the original show and ended with an immediate standing ovation by the audience. The entire company was superb. Each actor adding a new dimension to the characters and an excellent interpretation of the Stephen Schwartz score. I would be remiss in not mentioning that John Rubinstein added an extra special flair to the role of King Charles and evoked fond memories of him as Pippin. This is one touring company show that should not be missed if it comes to your town. Bravo to the company!

What a wonderful show! Adrienne Barbeau and John Rubenstein were a blast from the past and I am very impressed by their performance. The rest of the cast were fantastic. I just love the circus elements included in the play and the music and dancing were superb. Go see Pippin, you will not be dispointed.

Talented young persons dancing and acrobatics. The large number of people that left at intermission tells a lot about this boring show!

Watching Pippin was something I did not expect - it was different from other shows and I liked how the Leading Player and other characters use the concept of breaking the 4th wall by talking to the audience by getting us involved. The show was entertaining and funny.

Perhaps I am biased because I saw the original Pippin on Broadway in NYC in the '70s. Ben Vereen brought a special something to the Show. This new Pippin, at least the traveling version, left me disappointed. While the individual cast members all did a good job, it fell short for me. There is one set and no changes of scenery. This forces the play to revolve around this one set and forces a lot of imagination to take place as the story moves from location to location. Had I not already known the story, I'm not sure that I would have followed a lot of what was happening. They have expanded the role of King Charlemagne (to accommodate John Rubenstein I assume) versus the original. He does a great job, but I think the role has become silly. And Adrian Barbeau does a good job, but since she is not actually old (as the original Irene Ryan was), the song about youth not appreciating time does not really come off well. All in all, I was disappointed.

This is the first time I was watching such a fun combined show. It has singing, comedy, acrobat and dance. All show time is planned tightly and I would not feel boring. It is a great show. After i watched the show, I immediately recommended it to my friends and several of them immediately went to Ticketmaster to buy the show ticket for next day and watched it. They all said it is fun show and laughed a lot.

Great fun. A cross between Cirque du Soleil and a Broadway Musical. The only challenge was the SJ Center for Performing Arts was miserably hot and stuffy.

Wowza, what a show. From the first light on the curtain until the final bow. This show was action packed with a seasoned cast that know how to entertain. The costumes were like Bob Mackie originals, the Bob fosse moves, the great lighting and the score were amazing. I don't know why this isn't still on Broadway, but that you for bringing it back to life and taking it on the road. Loved this show. Thank you for bringing it to San Jose. Bravo!
