I have followed The Dregs, Steve Morse Band, Flying Colors, since the early eighties. To see the (more or less) original Dregs lineup live was a bucket list item now fulfilled. They not only did not disappoint the exceeded my expectations. Age, years, life has only improved these musicians. Yes there was the expected virtuosity but there was that intangible element of beauty that only a group of this caliber and experience can deliver. This is a must-see. These guys won t live forever.
Dixie Dregs are my new favorite band! Okay, they were back in 70s, and, as Allen Sloan pointed out, "This is a celebration." They played with gusto and touched on all their unique stylings, from classical chamber music to bluegrass to hard rock. Complex difficult music, much at breakneck speed, very hard to play, rendered amazingly. Long live the Dregs!
If anyone missed the Dixie Dregs show in NYC at The Town Hall WOW! I have been seeing them for over 40 years. They were amazing! Like it was 1977 all over again. If you can catch them on the rest of the tour you must go.
The sound was flawless and the spirit was of mutual appreciation. The band seemed as pleased to be with the audience as we in the audience were to see the band. Each piece played in each set was incredibly well done and lovely to hear. I feel honored to have been present.
After many years I was so happy to hear that the Dregs were making a reunion tour. They did not disappoint !! Awesome lead guitar, by Steve Morse, drums, Rod Morganstein, and fiddle by Allen Sloan, Great to see Andy West again in bass. Loved the show, hated to see it end.
This was truly a music experience. The venue was great, and the sound was incredible.

I didn't know what to expect when seeing the Dixie Dregs with the original line up. The show surpassed every expectation. The band took the whole experience to another level, and the crowd adored it. The Scottish Rite is a perfect venue, and kudos to the band to play such a diverse and challenging set. Big smiles all around.

Setlist below. Review: Acceptable. Like being in studio with them working on a reunion album except no new music. Morse wore sleeveless shirt and played teal colored guitars all night. Shredded mostly like a rock lead player until beginning of second set which was an acoustic sounding guitar (vinyl strings?) that looked like his electric. He showed off more of a latin style with the violinist. My son thought the violin was best part. The bass player seemed like an original member. They dedicated a song to a deceased member. This show reminded me of King Crimson reunion tour a few months ago that featured excellent musicianship needed for instrumentals, lack of movement on stage, no light show or visuals except a large banner in back. Probably will not see them again but glad I saw them on this tour. Prefer to listen to them at home.

I had been anticipating seeing this lineup of the Dregs for months, ever since I learned of the tour, and bought tickets. I was lucky enough to see the original Dregs (Industry Standard lineup) back in 1982, and have seen the occasional reincarnations (with Jerry Goodman on violin) over the years, as well as the Steve Morse band many, many times. I didn t know what to expect of Steve Davidowski on keyboards, having been used to seeing T Lavitz in the past. He actually played very well, and his soloing was fluid. There were a few spots where he seemed uncertain about the timing of certain musical cues (more on that later), but in general I was pleasantly surprised. Allen Sloan s playing was beautiful, and the solo piece he played to start the second set was lovely, along with the duet with Steve Morse he played after that. What a treat it was to have Andy West playing bass again! Unfortunately, the bass was too low in the mix where I sat in the 5th row, but what I could hear sounded great, and his joy at playing came through. Rod s drumming was fantastic as always, adding textures and details to the music that make it so special. His solo section with triggered electronic samples was also really good. Steve Morse as always was genius. His rip roarin playing on The Bash was a real highlight. It was a little odd having him say virtually nothing all night, since Andy West resumed his traditional role of MC for the evening. I had grown used to Steve s subtle sense of humor in his years of fronting the Steve Morse Band, and kind of missed it. This was only the 2nd night of the tour, and somewhat to my surprise, there were some rough spots. I have always been used to seemingly superhuman perfection from Steve s bands, but tonight there were not so much mistakes as there were missed cues and timing issues. The most glaring was in their signature piece, Cruise Control. That song reaches an epic peak during the section where the guitar, violin, keys, and bass trade a series of increasingly shorter solos, before blasting back into the main melody. I ve always thought this is one of the great moments in instrumental rock, and always creates a huge response from the crowd. Unfortunately, this night the timing on the solos (which is absolutely critical to get the musical effect) was off, and in fact, at the moment when they all should have rolled back into the melody, there was nothing but Rod pounding away on drums. Steve Morse was visibly frustrated, and called out verbally to do part of the section over, and then he pushed them through back into the main melody. I m sure they ll work through the kinks in timing very quickly, and really wish I could see them again towards the end of the tour. I m sure it ll be mind-blowing. As it was, it was still fantastic, a great night of music that I ve loved for decades, and would buy tickets to see them again tomorrow.

These guys blew the roof off the joint and kept going. Each of them is a consummate musician and their ensemble work was world class. The only reason to not like this concert would be that you hate rock/jazz fusion music. This is the concert I had been hoping to see for thirty years and I finally got to hear these guys live. The superior musicality that is The Dregs has only improved with time. Solos spot on and even more mind bendingly exciting than I remember as a 17 year old high schooler slipping in to Atlanta clubs with my fake ID. It was always about the music with these guys , the call and response ,the orquestral arrangements and improvisational excellence and when you are this good a vocalist would be a hindrance .This was happily still the case for the packed house at the intimate Ponte Vedra Concert Hall on Thursday night. Dear Dregs, please don't ever stop again.

A friend turned me on to the Dregs while in Europe. Would listen periodically on Spotify until the Dregs would overload me with their high energy music (a good thing). I would introduce a Dreg-less concert goer to get into their first album(s) before attending \u2014 so they have a taste of the Dregs. I think my wife was overwhelmed until the second set. Thanks Dregs for coming to Jacksonville.

This show was geared to the guitar devotees in the crowd, and the 5 original members were spot on with their instruments. This was the first show I ever saw with only a single microphone on the stage, which was used to introduce songs by the band. Steve Morse continues to amaze on the guitar, and the bass licks and electric fiddle were outstanding. Many of the songs were ones I'd not heard, but they were kicking anyhow. A great special encore with Dallas' own Andy Timmons joining the group on stage for a blistering rendition of Crossroad. You can hear the country and bluegrass influences in much of their offerings, and the Bash which closed the set before the 2 encores rung with the tune of Wabash Cannonball although I've never heard that song with the blazing guitar, bass and fiddle that were up front Wednesday night. Of course, Bloodsucking Leeches closed the set.

Very solid show featuring the original lineup of the Dixie Dregs. First set ran for an hour. After a 15 minute break the second set ran for about 70 minutes. My only complaints are: the volume, at times, was louder than I anticipated, and very limited seating if one hadn't purchased VIP seats. All of the musicians were in fine form and they seemed to be happy to be performing in front of a nice-sized audience (800 - 1000). Shortly after the show several of the band members signed items for fans, as well as posed for pictures.

Saw the Dixie Dregs in their original lineup at Hoyt Sherman auditorium on April 12, 2018. In the approximately 45 years I've been attending concerts I have never seen a greater level of absolute musical virtuosity (by all 5 members.) This band's music was never intended to achieve mass appeal, and indeed the crowd at the show was pretty light (maybe 150-200 in an auditorium that can hold 1,000) but for those of us there it was a spectacular demonstration of what is possible in rock/fusion music. If you have never heard the Dregs, buy the music and by all means go see their live show, before they disappear!

I last saw them at the University of Miami 40 year's ago whith this linup. They were as good as ever. A fantastic show in every way: each Dreg is a phenomenal musician, the song selection from their vast catalogue was ideal, they play for a good two hours and it NEVER gets boring, and the sound quality and lighting system was superb at the Wilbur (and I imagine will be the same at each and every concert). The between song chatter - which can be awful - was entertaining and informative. Hope this doesn't turn out to be the last Dixie Dregs tour!

this is so talented that each member is given opportunity to join in an exchange of their talents as a roving spotlight is on them. Through out their performance blazing guitar does a trade off with the violin....something you don't see everyday. This is an instrumental band taking the whole experience beyond words. and their drummer-extraordinaire takes turns being the lead instrument and always delivering-driving the music with punctuating cymbal crashes ....this band was special and hope to see them again

The Dixie Dregs came back, maybe (as the joy each member showed during the show, both contagious and unforced) to gather again for a round of new material, and rattled the venerable walls of the Wilbur Theatre with a rousing set of what have now become industry standards, bringing back the fever their old shows would mount up with The Bash and Cruise Control. Anyway, it made this old fan very happy to see all these old farts perform with their usual incredible skill and dexterity and energy. Morse's complex and inviting musics have entranced two generations of listeners now, as well as giving musicians high goals to equal. They played a nice mix of selections from their history, and we got a small thrill from Slonov when he played a solo composition he dedicated to his daughter, giving us a brief glimpse into their lives between gigs. They all played at a relentless clip, but then again, that's the way it's always been. I'm really hoping the joy and depth of this show will entice them all to gather in a studio again, if not enlarge the tour, as Morse (and West and Sloan et al.) have compositional chops as well as technical prowess. Once again, they prove that instrumental music has more emotive and intellectual energy than any repetitive vocal song, and that there's pure poetry in tones.

I understand that complex instrumental jazz-rock-classical fusion is not widely appreciated. But for me, seeing these masters perform their music live was the greatest thrill. I was pleasantly surprised by the length of the concert; two full sets separated by an intermission. These guys have not played together in many years, and it would have been fair if they had only attempted to perform fewer songs live. I have seen Steve Morse play live, and his brilliance came through again this night. Another great treat was seeing Rod drumming to the Dregs music. Somehow seeing him do the complex rhythms live gave me even greater appreciation for songs that I have heard dozens of times. I had only seen Andy West play with the Dregs once before, and like the others, is a true master of his bass, but his play is so effortless. He is also the most vocal, and even during a conversation after the show, speaks so passionately about the meaning and significance of this band and its music. I agree. One of my favorite Dregs songs, Go for Baroque, was introduced by Steve as their finally giving in to public pressure to deliver more chamber music. Obviously there is no such demand except for the fans attending the show. This piece brings me to tears as it so beautifully features Allen Sloan s violin which offers tremendous tension then resolution. I would have been happy with anything these guys played, but this night s performance was beyond my hopes. My only disappointment was the Wilbur s sound system.
