I saw Ira last in "Three Acts, Two Dancers, One Radio Host," which was a spectacular experience. This show was completely different as it was just Ira on stage. However it was just as spectacular which is a testament to Ira's charisma. To any This American Life fan, this show was an amazing insight into the process of making the show. It felt like we were all at a dinner party, listening to Ira's anecdotes, insights and thought processes not only about the show but about his family (even an update on Piney), his public radio background and his life in general. Ira Glass is a public radio treasure, and this show allowed us, his fans and admirers, to get to know him even befter, which was a real pleasure.

I bought these tickets for myself and a friend who loves storytelling. It was such an odd combination--storytelling with dance--that it intrigued me. It turned out to be a great combo. The dancers told a story, the stories wove around the dances. It was a great eclectic mix of experiences.

I'm still in the Ira Glass afterglow... He was articulate, brilliant, inspiring and always entertaining! Intelligence is sexy and I was swooning tonight! Can't beat a night of learning & laughing! I only wish there could've been a meet and greet/autograph signing time. It makes being a stalker so much easier.

Saw Ira Glass a few years ago at Royce Hall, and it was a top-notch show. Stories were interspersed with live performances by Jonathan Richman. He had a guest or two. It was a tight show, and very high energy. This show was sleepy-time. Just Ira at his console. Though he had some funny moments, he took forever to get out his stories - and he sometimes over-explained things. One of the lines he had in the show that got a laugh was "Public radio conquered boring - I wanted to do fun." Ironically, this show was indeed borderline boring.

Ira Glass is so endearing, intelligent, well-spoken and fascinating. He has such a gift for making the show seem like a conversation we were having at dinner, yet he spelled out how he figured out his story outline and how he finds ideas and puts shows together.

I prefer the radio. The show was too long and wordy. I could not follow Ira Glass and had a difficult time staying focused. The audio was great, best part of the show.

I've been to just about ever This American Life related radio show in New York. This was the best. Even though the segments were rehashed and I'd even SEEN them before, Ira opening himself up to the audience combined with the emotional segments really made for a special event. being on Broadway made it even more remarkable. I loved it.

MBB&CO captures exquisitely being human: seemingly ordinary, unspectacular lives made extraordinary by their stories and astonishing spirits, weaving dance in--not as gimmick--but as omniscient narrator, sprinkling her humor, labor, clumsiness, love, emotional punctuation, mortality and impermanence of life, we are ALL part of the tapestry, crucial subjects of all art, what is happening on the stage or exhibited at the gallery, museum, highway billboard is inspired by life and living, a tribute to being "heroes of our own stories" & reminder that we don't have to look far-- your neighbor, the token clerk, your bathroom mirror--and an invitation to pay attention, a DARE to not miss your life.

Love Ira Glass! His storytelling and delivery were wonderful as usual. I didn't "get" the dance part beyond that it was an unusual combination and made more of a visual spectacle . It did not integrate well into the stories and was very repetitive.

A fun 90 minutes of Ira Glass doing a live This American Life. The dancers seemed underused and more vaudeville than broadway. But seeing Ira dance and make a poodle balloon was all good.

It's hard to know what to expect when you read the description of this show, which Ira acknowledges immediately, thanking the audience for taking a chance. It's a mix of laughter, poignancy and movement somehow wrapped together by the brilliance and creativity of Ira Glass's sensibility. It's fascinating to watch what he developed with Monica and Anna, whose dancing ranges from more traditional to quirky. If you're a listener to his radio show, you already have an intimate connection to him- radio is a very intimate medium, and for me, at least that feeling was enhanced, not because I "saw" him but because of some of the very personal material. Plus, watching him dance - well, all I can say is it's a thing to behold! I'm so glad I took that chance!

As someone who's never heard Ira Glass speak, but who's heard nothing but raves about the man with the magic voice, I was excited to finally see him in action! But boy what a let down it was. The stories Ira tells left me feeling underwhelmed and asking myself "so what?" If you're looking for life lessons or a genuine "Aha!" moment you won't find it here. Those who already believe Glass is Jesus incarnate will most likely love it, as I seemed to be the only one in the theatre not vigorously clapping my hands at every minuscule thing the man did. The dancers, too, we're underwhelming and tried to create touching moments that fell flat. Save your time and money and go do something else instead. Anything else.

Great fun with some nice storytelling and dancing in the beautiful Townhall theater in NYC. Refreshingly different though lacking some arc or raison d'être. Don't look too hard for a deep overall meaning and story line as there is none to speak of. However thoroughly enjoyable as an entertaining, maybe slightly fragmented, stream of consciousness performance. Recommended for Ira Glass's radio fans, now with eye candy.

I saw Glass's last performance at BAM. It was magical intelligent and hilarious. This performance had two major parts from BAM which were the same without the energy of the first and a long affecting part which was excellent, but had no up part in the last act. Magic is rare.

Overall the refreshing concept of integrating dance and monologue storytelling worked well. HOWEVER, we brought a very dear friend with us as our guest to help ease some of the nightmare he is facing while fighting a very aggressive cancer. Unfortunately, not one but TWO of the storys Ira Glass related were terribly sad accounts of cancer deaths. If I could have crawled under my seat to disappear, I would have. Needless to say, this defeated the purpose of our night out and was a major buzzkill. We love Ira Glass, but there is nothing else we can say about the evening except that we wish we had not attended.

I love Ira Glass and This American Life but this just didn't work for me. The dancing and storytelling just wasn't a natural fit in my opinion. And I won't even address Ira's "dancing" but to say "Bless his heart. He tried." The strength of TAL are the stories and the one's in this show felt incomplete to me. I applaud the effort that obviously went into this but it was a weird show. If Ira called it weird at one point.

This was a wonderful, poignant, laugh out loud work of art. I had 3 people with me - one of whom wasn't familiar with Ira Glass, and is now a sworn fan. I love dance, and the dance portion was as entertaining as the stories. I would love to see this exact performance again - and again.

The show was funny and well done. As a big fan of Ira Glass and TAL, this show did not disappoint. It was 1.5 hrs and I could've sat through the whole thing again immediately as it finished. We enjoyed ourselves and had some good laughs plus some teary-eyed moments. Parking at Royce is seriously a diasaterous, terribly-run joke. The UCLA parking people need to be fired. Be early.

This show opened with the acknowledgement that no one ever asked to see radio and dance merge. But it was going to happen anyway. The show was profound, funny, and accessible. Was it worth the ticket price? Absolutely not. But that money goes to supporting NPR anyway, so I guess that makes it acceptable. :)

You've heard radio and seen dance, but you've probably never experienced a rousing, touching and laugh-filled combination of both. Ira Glass mixes his wit with the clever choreography of two professional dancers, who say nothing but add a full new dimension to This American Life. I had grave doubts about the concept before the show started, but two minutes in I was hooked.

Can the days of yesteryear, when our grandparents sat spellbound listening to stories on the radio, ever be experienced again? YES! Thanks to Ira Glass and his talent for story telling, an audience full of mostly young people was spellbound at the Schnitzer! We had the highest expectations for an entertaining evening, yet Ira exceeded those expectations by leaps and bounds. We are so grateful for his shows and what he has brought to Public Radio (and now the movies, as Sleepwalk with Me was terrific)! Highly recommend!!

He spoke for more than two hours, giving a mix of backstories about episodes from the show, theories on storytelling and journalism, and answering audience questions. He did a fantastic job. Without any slides, or props (other than a small podium with his iPad), he let the stories and his ideas speak for themselves.

The art of the radio interview show, wonderfully presented by a humble master. Ira gave a background history of his National Public Radio show, "This American Life," and presented the details of how a story comes together and works, including the secret of revealing how people feel about the events they discuss in their interviews. For fans, it was simply sublime. For those who are not fans, I expect that they would start to become fans after this presentation. Kudos to KCRW for bringing Ira Glass to Los Angeles to tell His STORY.

Very interesting content, and he has a charming appearance--BUT on stage, it was hard to understand his words! He seemed to be running words together and using lots of vocal fillers, such as "like" and "um." Was really looking forward to seeing him but was disappointed. Great venue; great journalist. It was a packed house of appreciative fans and Ira was at his best. So refreshing to LISTEN rather than stare at a screen/computer/phone. Yes, he used media in his presentation, but it was tastefully done and fully illustrated the points he wanted to make. It was all over way too soon and I marveled how much Des Moines has grown, how much talent has been to and is coming to Hoyt-Sherman, and how close my home is to this venue. Thank you for all your efforts. I know these things don't come off without loads of effort behind the scene.

I've listened to This American Life for many years and when I saw that Ira Glass was coming to the Smith Center in Las Vegas I was excited to see his live show. I like the radio program and have listened to most of the episodes spanning its 20-year history. It used to be my favorite story-based audio program. I say used to be" because it seems that for the past year or so, This American Life has become what seems like an agitprop sounding board for the progressive left and it s just impossible to listen to. Anyway, I was hoping the live show would reflect the radio program of old so I purchased tickets. My wife, who is unfamiliar with the radio program, and largely apolitical, accompanied me to the show. The live show consists of Glass, standing alone in a bright spotlight stage left, conducting various audio and video clips on a large screen to the right via hand-held electronic tablet. Essentially, it's a handful of stories from the radio program illustrated using video footage from the TAL television show. Glass interrupts the clips frequently in order to add clarification and commentary. Other than a few times where he stops and delivers a lengthy set up, or monologue, this is the extent of the show. I am a relatively introspective person, and as I mentioned, I really like Glass' radio program, but this didn't feel like it was worthy of a live event. About 30 minutes into it, I could tell that my wife was feeling the same. Having said that, I felt shut out when, Glass suddenly launched a ham fisted tirade aimed at the idiocy of the Trump administration. His polemic was so trite he could have summoned perpetually-provoked MSNBC star Rachel Maddow to the stage and the script would have remained exactly the same. This is not what I signed up for. Fortunately, it seemed things were going to improve when, after ten or fifteen minutes, Glass finished his anti-Trump broadside and introduced another topic. Then, about three quarters of the way into the show, Glass picked up where he left off with his criticism of the current presidential administration, this time stepping away from the audio/video and lurching into a sort of one man meandering soliloquy, saying things like, I don t know, I don t know, I just don t understand it, and, it just doesn t seem like this administration is concerned with facts, and, I don t get it, I m confused. This rambling rant drifted from Obamacare to the Muslim ban, to the incoherency of the current administration s press briefings. And every five minutes or so Glass would say, I know, it s Saturday night; it s your weekend and you probably don t want to hear this, yet, each time he would continue to soliloquize as if he were alone, getting ready in the morning, talking to himself. I asked my wife if she wouldn t mind if we left. She concurred and as we were leaving, I heard a guy in one of the isles we passed say to me, I m right with you, bro. Come on, honey, let s get out of here. As we exited the hall my wife, who attends probably a dozen events at the Smith Center every year, said aloud, Well, that was the worst show I ve ever seen here. If you lean to the left, you might be happy attending this show (though you might not). If you sit anywhere else, including that gray area in the middle, you might regret wasting the time and dropping the cash on the ticket price for what I would describe as a boring, preachy progressive polemic.

Having lived in the Twin Cities for nine years I had never been to the State Theater for any event. It was easy to get to with plenty of restaurants around the area to enjoy a meal prior to the 8 p.m. event. Not wanting to fight traffic or worry about parking I took an Uber to get to Minneapolis, enjoyed a nice dinner at Seven and then walked to the Theater. You can definitely tell the Theater's history. While the seats themselves are a little older it's all part of the charm of the building and I was never uncomfortable at any time. Ira Glass has an incredible on stage presence and let the audience in on some of the ways he creates his show and how he's been so successful. If I had a chance to hear Ira speak again I would definitely take advantage of it.

I am going to admit that I went to the show without knowing who Ira Glass was at all. I had discovered the day before that he was affiliated with NPR. And it was a radio show. I was intrigued with that concept and the fact it was a date. So, I was open for anything. Overall, it was interesting but unless you are a real Ira Glass fan, I think you would more enjoy the stories than the show. The behind the scenes items were interesting but hardly so entertaining that it would have "made" the program. I was not bored and that does say something. The rest of the crowd did seem to enjoy themselves a lot. As I said, Interesting and probably a better show for Ira Glass fans. And I know, that seems pretty obvious.

The show was a unique look at the making for This American Life over the last 20 years, from its creative genius, Ira Glass. Ira gave his perspective on the unique qualities of radio as a medium and on his desire to bring stories to the public from a different perspective. It was a thoughtful, educational and fun evening spent getting a glimpse into Ira's creative process. His enthusiasm and passion was palpable and I'll forever look at TAL with a new light.

My husband and I went to see Ira Glass at his show in Houston on Sept. 20: 3 Acts, 2 Dancers, 1 Radio Show Host. We got to meet Mr. Glass before the show, which was great. He was very friendly and acted interested in everyone in the room. Terrific. We took a picture with him and we were told it would be emailed to us, but we still haven't received it. Sad, but not part of the show, I guess. Mr. Glass's role in the show was great; exactly what you'd expect from such a fabulous radio host. The stories were maybe a little on the boring side, but that might have been because I was expecting too much. But the dancers were AWFUL!! The "interpretive dance" or whatever they were doing was soooooo stupid. Their outfits were ugly, the dancing was lousy (one repeated move was for them to do a squat and roll their arms around like they were playing pat-a-cake; another time they set up a dinner table, complete with plates and cups, held each other and danced slowly in a circle for 10 minutes), and they also made ugly faces a lot, which sounds stupid when I write it, but to watch 2 women pretend to be men arguing with someone off-stage was really unattractive. I kept thinking the whole time they were on stage, "I could do that," and I am not a dancer by any means. The choreography was just awful and uninspired. Whichever one of them choreographed the dancing must have been trained at the strip-mall dance center down the road. I couldn't believe it when the audience clapped after every dance and then gave the show a standing ovation. Overall, Mr. Glass did a fine job (nothing spectacular, just fine) and the dancing SUCKED. Save your money, listen to TAL on your radio, and spend your time going to a REAL dance show, like a ballet.

I absolutely loved this quirky, smart, fascinating, all around excellent show. I'm a huge TAL fan (and I'm a little bit in love with Ira Glass- so sad he is married and has no idea who I am) amazed that so few people even know of the radio program. Loved the stories woven together with the totally unique way Monica & Anna present dance. And my husband thought it was fantastic too!

The stories and themes were great, and the dances were a rich complement to the audio content. The dancers did a superb job of bringing the tone to life and evoking deep feelings. some funny, some tender, all great.

It seemed like Ira Glass was fulfilling his dream of becoming a dancer. My favorite parts of the show were the dancers and, separately, Ira playing clips from his radio interviews...which I could have listened to at home online.

Ira Glass dances, along with the Monica Bill Barnes dance company (which seemingly consists of Ms. Barnes and another dancer, Anna Bass). The latter two are professional dancers, and Ira Glass is not. If you've always wanted to see Ira Glass dance, well, this is your chance. I did find the show charming overall because I find Ira Glass charming; I would have been similarly charmed by seeing my beloved niece dance, or do anything, on stage. Would you pay $80 for this privilege, though? I can see why some people would think this self-indulgent, because it is self-indulgent. But if you're in an indulgent mood, you would be entertained. Favourite moment (too long for the below field): That said, when Ira Glass does his thing (narration) and the MBB company do their thing (dance), the two can be compelling - as in an MBB dance set upon a tabletop, as Eno's "Deep Blue Day" plays, as Ira talks to Donald Hall about his wife dying. Beautiful, entrancing stuff.

Pretty self-indulgent. I get the "minimalist" production values, but it was annoying to watch him make a big production of his pushing the button on his tablet every time he started or stopped a recording. Dancers were great. I guess hard-core Ira Glass fans would like this. I found it marginally entertaining, but really there was not much to it. Not particularly funny; not particularly informative; not particularly thought-provoking; not particularly anything.

This show had the Ira Glass trademark blend of humor and pathos but with a twist (literally). The choreography was fabulous as were the dancers. I had no idea what I was getting into - went on blind faith - so glad I did.

This show never seemed to really jell for me. It was amusing, and the dancers were good, but the concept seemed a little half-baked. Kind of a gumbo of all that "This American Life" listeners hold dear, without the emotional or intellectual payoff. I didn't hate it, but I didn't love it like I thought I would.

I'm still not sure what I saw, but it was incredible. Who knew dancing could contribute and add to a radio show instead of serving as a distraction? 100% recommend even if you don't quite understand what you're getting into.

This was one of the most unique and inspired pieces of theatre!! All three performers are the best at what they do and I guarantee you have never seen a show like this! As it came to its Spectacular Finale, I simply didn't want it to end! I guess that is my only complaint, that it had to end at all!!

Fun to mix storytelling with dancers! I had no idea what I was gonna get but bought my ticket as soon as it went onsale as I trust Ira and love KCRW! Powerfully emotional and sparkly fun! The dancers are excellent and add another dimension to the show that gets even Ira doing the two step!

I've always been a fan of Ira Glass and TAL but this was the first time I've ever been able to make it to a live event. This did not disappoint. Ira is just as charismatic as his on air personality and I was blown away by the staging, dancing and storytelling. Did I mention the dancing? Heaven help me but Ira danced!! It ran the gamut of emotions from funny, sad, touching and awe inspiring. I wish the production had gone on longer - I could have stayed there all night.

Really cool show. Very unexpected and unique. Note about parking at Royce Hall - it's very slow getting into the lot. Arrive an hour early if possible. We were 30 minutes early and 10 minutes late to the show due to parking. Luckily, the show did not start on time. Probably waiting for the majority of the crowd to be seated.

Ira Glass tried his best and the show had some highlights but basically I thought it was disjointed. If the show was about dance, then the portion on love seems off point. After a while the dances seemed the same. A few were cute and unique, but there were just too many of them. We went with another couple. The two women enjoyed the program but didn't love it; the men were bored.

As always, Ira Glass puts on a great live show. The dance was incorporated in a way that enhanced the humor and pathos of Mr. Glass's usual storytelling brilliance. I recommend going to see Ira Glass whenever you have the chance.

My husband and I had such a wonderful time! I purchased these tickets as his valentines present. I wanted to get him an experience rather than something tangible that would clutter up our house. I didn't tell my husband where we were going. I handed him his ticket right after I picked them up at Will Call. His face was priceless. He was so excited! He just kept saying, "I forgot he was coming! I forgot he was coming!" The entire night was wonderful. Ira Glass did a wonderful job of making the show feel personal and entertaining. I found myself a little envious of his natural talent for entertainment and humor. He was just enthralling. I would love to see him live again. Until then, I guess I'll just have to be happy sitting in my car listening to This American Life.

Wasn't sure what to expect seeing Ira Glass speaking live in comparison to hearing him on radio, but he was awesome. I have a totally different perspective and understanding of why "This American Life" is the way it is and I can say I'm an even bigger fan than before. I feel he showed more of his true personality, aside of his persona on the radio....and without the rules regulations. He used great material and expressed his opinion behind the scenes. The flow of material and lecture was similar to his show, but with more depth. Awesome! Ira Glass is truly incredible.

I really enjoyed the presentation, but the program should have been longer. An one hour lecture, even one so well presented, doesn't really justify the ticket cost. My guess is that other people have complained about this becuase the venue sent me an email a few days before the show. The email warned that the program was only an hour plus 30 minutes of Q&A.

We laughed, we cried, it was better than Cats! No, really, this show was highly entertaining and we enjoyed every single second of it. He is even better in person than on the radio. He just talks to you. It doesn't feel like he has a script in front of him, what he has to say is very interesting, and I couldn't wait to see what was going to happen next. GO, you'll be glad you did!

You didn't have to be a frequent listener to NPR's This American Life, but it would have helped. He opened by standing on a dark stage with the only light coming from his IPad tablet and let the audience become familiar with his distinctive voice. That was cool. The lights came up and he was from then on a distinguished gentleman in conversation with the audience. He shared familiar story lines and some not so familiar, to me at least. I enjoyed it but probably wouldn't make the investment again to see it Live.

My companion and I had a fantastic time. It was so good that we have even been spontaneously mentioning that we "still can't get over how good Ira Glass was," days later. He is a professional storyteller, and it's clear why he is as successful as he is.

I just throughly enjoyed seeing Ira Glass speak instead of just hearing him. He's way cuter than I had pictured in my mind which was a plus. He was so funny and articulate, I even thought for a moment, "Hey, I may name my first born child Ira..." and then I thought, "Wait, I'm not having kids....maybe just my next dog." Great show. Hope I get to see him again one day.
