Those were the words of my 8-year-old granddaughter who was introduced to the ballet with this performance. She was entranced throughout the first act, asked only a few questions during the second, then was full of questions during the third to help her understand what was going on. But she, as well as the rest of the family loved the performance. We thought the Juliet was especially strong in the way she conveyed the innocence of a girl's first love, then her growing strength as she defies her father. Romeo's dancing was very strong and capable.

a fancy place, you would probably feel out of place if you didn't dress up. we had first row seats on the balcony with a great view of everything going on. both the ballet and the orchestra were very well synchronized and the sound was very good.

I haven't attended the ballet in years and was pleasantly surprised to witness a wonderful production. You can see the passion in the dancers, their costumer, the set deigns - you could feel the energy. Snow scene was absolutely stunning! I'll be back next year.

The technical level of the ballet of Arizona is not amazing but the prima ballerina was really good. The choreography was also very good. Overall, it's worth seeing it!

Loved it, loved it, loved it!! The principal ballerina was the best swan I have seen in years. The sets were fantastic and in each one, I felt like I was right in the scene. If you want to see a good ballet company, or if you haven't seen a ballet in a long time, this is well worth the time and money. Fantastic!!

Desert Botanical Gardens set the stage as the backdrop was magical on Friday night when we attended Topia on a beautiful full moon. The ballet dancers were exquisite at the hands of Ib Andersen and music by Beethoven Symphony No. 6 - The Pastoral. Honestly stop procastinating and get out there and expereince first hand some beautiful artistic dance. It's good for your mind, body and soul to take yourself out of your comfort zone sometimes and do something you've thought about doing for a long time, but just never got around to buying the tickets. Loved, loved this entire idea of ballet under the stars/moon and th 55 minute performance. (We too were late buying the tickets and picked them up at Will Call.)

Ballet seems fresh again with a program unique to Phoenix. Set to Beethoven 's 6th Symphony with world-class dancers of Ballet Arizona on a giant stage with desert background painted with dramatic lighting, My only disappointment is the limited food choices when it could be more like the picnic experience at the Hollywood Bowl.

Topia was a phenomenal reminder of what this community has to offer in terms of talent and theatrical imagination, in particular when one looks at how our local environment was used as an accent to the talent. BRAVO!!

Show was not in the botanical garden but in the parking lot area. With title of topia I had expected a botanical theme. There did not appear tiobe any theme. Choreography was uninteresting and repetitive. Some was downright akward looking. Costume was nude leotards and there were no changes. Dancers worked hard but unison was poor and technique not great. Sorry but I was embarrassed I took my friend to it. Good thing show was less than an hour.

We were blown away by Topia. Our Valley is so fortunate to have such a talented company in our midst. Ballet Arizona is a treasure - and they evoked the beauty of the desert through their movement. It brought tears to my eyes. The venue - outdoors at the Desert Botanical Garden - is amazing enough but this performance completely changed my perspective and made me appreciate it even more!

All aspects of Topia were magical, beautiful, amazing. I would highly recommend this event. The only (BIG!) disappointment was, after waiting in line for a delicious chicken salad, we were told they were out if chicken. We asked for the same salad, but without chicken. They could still not accommodate. We arrived in a timely manner, so it wasn't as if we showed up late expecting them to have dinners for us. I guess planning just wasn't executed efficiently.

Every moment was so brilliant, with the movement of the exquisite dancers, the Papago mountains in the backdrop, and the every changing light -- I was touched by each of the four programs. I was held captive by the beauty and sensation the artistic director and his dancers magically created. It has to be one of the most stunning performances I have ever seen.

This has been the 2nd time that I watched this performance. I loved it and will return again next year. First of, the ballet was exquisite. Second, watching it at the Desert Botanical Garden, sitting outside with the moon and stars above and the mountains in the back ground made it even more beautiful.

Bleacher seats had great view, was in front of speakers, adjusted to the volume rather quickly and stopped noticing that it was loud. The fluidity of the dance, the panoramic stage, the mountains, the full scene made for a memorable Mother's Day gift from my daughter and family. Thanks Arizona Ballet.

I thought it was good, not great. It had too many things going on at the same time...chaotic and hard to watch. The choreography was so similar on many of the dances, The table seating was okay, not great. There was absolutely no announcement that it was over. Yes, they took bows, but it was short, so many stayed thinking it might be an intermission. I expected more. The lighting was not nearly as exciting as I expected. Overall, it was...OKAY. I wouldn't pay that much again for it.

In general, performance was good... but could be much better. The thing is that you pay for the ticket, affordable but still quite a bit, and you expect this performance to be worth this money. For the money I paid, I expected something incredible. But the music was not alive (just recorded) and ballet is kind of short. Lights in the dark were good (but again could be brought to something more magnificent), but that alone is not worth the price. The bottom line is: it's worth to see the performance but it is not worth to pay that much for it.

Ballet Az's Director's Choice was so wonderful to watch. The costumes were fantastic. The dancing very powerful. It was a unique dance of three different dances. It was a thrill to watch these amazing bodies reach, twist, lift, and glide across the stage! The choreography and sunset lighting matched the celebration of the human body and moved my soul. Although I would have liked to have a sun shield at dinner, the food was spectacular! I think they would have sold more if waiters wove through the tables and catered to our desires to sit and enjoy watching the dancer warming up. They did do a good job providing a relaxing environment for an outside event, yet it was a bit warm. I could not write this review until now because as I sat and watched a tribute to human life, a close friend was coming to an unexpected the end of his.

I took my 7yr old Daughter and this was our first time for both of us! The First half was AMAZING!!! I loved the added comedy that this group did..such as CPR on the rat king etc. The costumes, lighting was all beautiful and added to the event! The dancers were great! My only criticism is that it seemed like the second half was drug out a little long. I noticed my daughter as well as other children were having trouble with paying attention because of how long it was drug out. The couple in purple who were amazing dancers but they needed to be cut back.. First they danced together for quiet awhile then he did a solo then she did a solo etc.. I will DEFINITELY take my daughter again next year and every year after that! Excellent job!

I was so amused with the storyline of Don Quixote, played out in this ballet performance! I expected to enjoy the story of the lost lovers of all ages, shapes, and sizes.....I never expected to giggle so much at the ballet, though! What fun! The costumes were gorgeous and had just the right "spice" for the period while still showing the fluid movement of the dance. The orchestra did an amazing job with the score in a hall that is well-receiving of this type of sound. This performance was the weekend before Valentine's Day. It was obvious that there were lovers there, enjoying a special theatre treat in honour of their holiday. But there were also plenty of families there with young girls of all ages enthralled with the story - and the audience as a whole was happy to show moments of joy and laughter where the Ballet Arizona Company expected it!

I enjoyed the way the dancers faces were so expressive. Very symbolic, the way in which the swan dancers hands and arms resembled the head and neck of a swan. Even though a dancer fell in the first act, we all felt bad for him because he looked like he was trying very hard. Plus he looked handsome, so that helped him too. The ushers were quite helpful, Although they could use a little more instruction as to where the portals are. We were misdirected twice. I was pleased that even though we are entering winter, that the auditorium was still cooled. Prince Siegfried and Lady Odette's love looked real. Very extraordinary!! They were awesome! Thank you for making my experience a memorable one!

Since the ballet was held in the beautiful Botanical Gardens, I didn't expect that the performance would actually take place in a parking lot. There were a couple of moments when the vegetation was illuminated which was lovely but otherwise one had no idea of the actual setting. The sight of the fabulous dancers against the backdrop of the Desert Botanical Gardens was just wonderful. My only complaint was that it was too short. The whole ballet was just an hour. I was so enthralled that I was ready for a short intermission and to come back for more. I know the piece was choreographed to Beethoven's Symphony No 6, so obviously when that ended the ballet ended. The bottom line is that I really enjoyed it and I hope Ballet Arizona continues a relationship with the botanical gardens.

TOPIA was a great show! I took my granddaughter who is turning 13 to celebrate her birthday. We had a fabulous time. However, I believe that sitting in the "general" seating up in the stands w/ the same chairs that are at the tables would be better seating. There is so much going on at once on stage that sitting up higher (we were at ground level, second row) would give you a better view of the entire show. Next time we attend a show, this is where we will sit. Beautiful performance, thanks!

We were disappointed from the moment we entered the Desert Botanical Gardens and were told where to go for the performance. Despite much promotional material that makes you think it is in the gardens, it isn't! It's in the parking lot. Very deceptive advertising. When you call in to the box you are told there is table service. Not so, instead you wait in separate lines for wine and catered food. The food wasn't even from Gertrude's! The name "Topia" suggests a nature-related performance; instead, you get a series of forgettable vignettes with no theme at all. The dancers' heights were mismatched and there was an overweight one to boot. The final straw was the windblown dust in the eyes! Not at all worth the money spent for a tableside performance.

If you are going to see the Traditional Nutcracker, this isnt it. There were tons of kids in the ballet, which was fun to see but sometimes I think there were too much kids kind of just running around on stage at one time. Dont get me wrong I had a great time and loved the way they changed things up a little. The rats were hilarious, and the queen that was actually a man was priceless! The sugar plum dancers were beautiful and I think they stayed very true to the classic version. This is a great play to take your kids to or even if you are dragging you boyfriend to see it because it isnt the exact classical version. Although I loved it I took my 73 year old grandma who LOVES the orignal version and she seemed a bit dissapointed.

I had a great time. I enjoyed everything from the pictures opportunity to walking out. Except charging $12.00 to park for just over 2 hours is not acceptable.

This was my first time seeing a ballet, and although the production and orchestra seemed to have performed well, I just did not enjoy the repetitiveness of the ballet performance. I don't know if that is unique to this production or all ballets in general, but I was not too impressed.

Go see this next year! I caught the last show this year and it was incredible. My seats were on the floor near the back, I had no problem with seeing, except when the giant man in front of me would move around. But, he was pretty tall. Anyway, the ballet itself was so entertaining, the dancers were so talented. The music was also fantastic. You can take pictures with a ballerina or buy a nutcracker in the lobby. Good show, a must for the holidays!

I have been to Nutcracker before- thought it would be boring. This was truly excellent, though. It was action packed- would undoubtedly go again!

Ballet was superb. Sugar Plum Fairy and her partner stole the show with their perfect performance. Loved the angel costumes the most. Children were adorable. Appreciated the smiles on the faces of the dancers and their animation when called for.

It was beautiful and extremely kid friendly. The mouse king and army scene was adorable and funny more than anything else. No narration, so maybe not for little kids late at night, it'll put them right to sleep. It is a truly fun and beautiful performance, and the dancers are insanely talented!

I had a wonderful time. The dancers were great! I know it had to be a joyous performance because my boyfriend actually sat through the whole thing :P

Enjoyed the ballet. Nice scenery too! Seats were good uninterrupted view (elevated up from the row in front). Could not really see the dancer's faces that clearly but the could see the costumes pretty well.

Our family loved The Nutcracker by Ballet Arizona. It was the first time my young son (aged 9 years) has seen it live. He was truly amazed and sat still for the entire performance. We will probably make this an annual event!

This was the first ballet I have ever been to. It was the most magnificent ballet. The costumes are amazing the dancers were phenominal and the atmosphere created by cast and staff was wonderful. Will absolutely go back again.

Absolutely professional performance! From the very point of arrival, greeted by a very polite and helpful gentleman. Directed promptly to booster seat area for our two granddaughters. A very calm and lovely atmosphere with activities in the lobby. Very impressive performance....scary parts handled with a sense of humor and personal touches by the performers. Just an overall good feeling! Costumes are trendy and gorgeous and fun! Sets imaginative. Staging and choreography equal to NYC performances! Well done, Ballet AZ!

Do they practice? At one point, the ballerinas were so out of sync I believe they were laughing at each other. The costumes were falling apart, and it looked like the Nutcracker actually had to hold his breast plate the entire time he was on stage. I paid $300 to see it with my daughter and it was a TRAINWRECK!!!!! I cannot believe they were not giving refunds after the show!

Ballet Arizona never fails to provide a wonderful holiday experience. We used to take one of our granddaughters to see the Nutcracker every year. Now she has moved and we are anxiously awaiting our other granddaughters to get just a little older so they can appreciate it. Don't think it is the same thing each year because they regularly make I changes to the sets and of course the performers and costumes change as well. The one thing that doesn't change (thank goodness) is the music.
