I have seen Meshuggah many, many, many times, I never miss a show & every time they blow the roof off the place whether there is a roof or not! Amazing show, incredible energy, the band was on fire! The opening bands were amazing as well, first time seeing Intronaut & Animals as Leaders, both bands were ossum! I recommend seeing Meshuggah! I was in the front row!

Been waiting for meshuggah for over ten years, and finally caught them in LA this weekend. show was just amazing, the pure energy that i was hoping could be done live and not just from records was there immediately, and made for an epic show!

The sound at HOB was so crisp and clear i could every note that Tobin would shred. Even more impressive was the super amazing drummer that just blew me away. Animals as leaders had all the beautiful subtle moment along with all the rip your face off screaming riffs u would hope for live. Meshuggah i have seen many time before but this was by far the best show.

This by far on the top 3 concerts I have ever been (being tool, iron maiden the other 2). This guys put on a rather simple show in terms of graphic display (compared to other visually-oriented shows) so you can really immerse into their unique musical universe. The technical quality of their live music is superb and you won't be disappointed. Meshuggah's music and style is hard to define but in my opinion lies in between technical death metal and industrial. It's like blending Ministry with Death in the core, and put a little bit of Dream Theater and Fear Factory, and then top it off with Tool. As someone put it on Wikipedia, thier music can be defined as intellectual death metal. These guys really re-defined extreme metal. I'd see them many times more. If you can keep up with the harshness of extreme metal, you should not regret seeing these guys.

Decapitated opened. Their drummer was awesome but the sound guys didn't do them any justice at all. This is a great speed metal band. Baroness was good too. Their sound was better mixed and I really enjoyed the dual metal guitar moments. Good song writing is definitely their strong suit. The drummer was super tight and not too flashy, I wished that he set his kit up taller so that he looked like he was trying a bit more (my only criticism). To me, Baroness is the Jimmy Eat World of metal. now then: I've seen Meshuggah multiple times in the past 15 years and this show was the most fun I think I've ever had at a show. The sound was Amazing for Meshuggah. I saw them at Verizon in Houston a few years ago when they opened for Ministry and the sound was god awful. This time, everything came together perfectly. Their stage presence is formidable. Ominous. Brutal. One of a kind. These guys are the kings of metal groove. Every song is written with a constant perfect headbang, no matter how intricate the polyrhythms underlying it all are. The pit was very friendly. I danced, I threw the horns up all night, I jumped up and down, I headbanged, I drank, I feasted my ears and eyes on the glorious Swedish tech-metal that is MESHUGGAH

I watched them from the front row, and that was the most unforgettable concert I've been to.. and I've been to many, many metal concerts.. Drove all the way from Pittsburgh (and back) for this concert, and these guys didn't disappoint one bit! They are a living legend, so go see them at least once in your lifetime, if you consider yourself as a true metal fan..

Animals as Leaders opened the show and were really good. As someone who had never heard of them I will definitely check them out. That dude is wicked on the Guitar. Meshuggah was fantastic. All the members are very talented...put on a great show. I had never seen them and was more than satisfied. One of the best crowds I've ever seen...extremely high energy, but everyone was cool. Will absolutely go see them again. Meshuggah is one of a kind!!

Never heard of Intronaut until I attended this concert and their amazing talent shows why Meshuggah chose them to be on a tour with them. Dave from Intronaut was very cool after the concert with the fans and so was Sacha (who did vocals for New Millenium Cyanide Christ with Meshuggah). Next up was "Tobiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiin Asasi" (I kept calling him that and made him laugh every time) and Animals as Leaders. As expected, the trio of AAL gave us a masterful performance where they showcased their immense talents to their full potential. Tosin Abasi is probably the greatest guitar player of the 21st century by far. The kid is not of this universe. If you ever get a chance to watch him live, do it. He's one of those once in a lifetime musicians that you need to see. Finally, the Swedish onslaught of polyrhythmic extended range insanity graced Roseland Ballroom with their presence. I knew Jens Kidman was coming out to perform for New York (despite the flu that had him miss a few shows on this tour) because there was nothing anywhere on the internet in regards to his status for the show. The song selection was almost perfect. They did forget to play Rational Gaze, Demiurge, and The Devil's Name is Surveillance. Their live sound was pretty much the same as how they sound on record which is nothing short of amazing.

Meshuggah was great, well worth the wait, I've been waiting for quite a number of years. This is along with Lamb of God one of the best bands in metal at the moment. Unfortunately, the two opening bands, Intronaut and Animal as Leaders, were quite disappointing. Animal as Leaders are gag musicians but the no singer and bass makes the music a bit lame and boring to,listen to for a 45 minute set.

The best thing I've ever experienced. I feel very lucky to be a Meshuggah fan for 12+ years. Now if only Georgia could get their sound laws figured out so that the headlining band can actually play their FULL set, that would be nice.

The line-up was Decapitated, Baroness, then Meshuggah. Decapitated put on a great set of technical death metal though they were having some sound issues and the crowd of djenty kids didn't want anything to do with them. Baroness did not fit at all on the bill, but all things considered (setlist quality, sound quality, energy of the band, crowd behavior) they might have been the best act with their proggy stoner/sludge. That doesn't mean Meshuggah wasn't great, although they had some sound issues that were resolved early on. The fans however were even less friendly than one expects from a metal show, plus I hated the light show which was meant to blind the audience (I hate that sort of lighting). Of course Meshuggah were great and the setlist was flawless playing many songs off of Obzen plus they even had "Mind's Mirrors". Everything I'd want from a Meshuggah show.

Late review but it is worth mentioning that this has to be my favorite band in the Death/Dark Metal style. They have interesting arrangements, prog metal elements, and are as intense as they come. Loud? Yep. I would see them again should they come back in the NYC area. The only thing I could live without is the mosh pit heads. But it goes with the territory. A++

This was my second metal concert and I must say it was an inspiring show. As a musician myself, it was a great learning experience. Although I missed the first band Decapitated, Barroness and Meshuggah performed greatly. I also enjoyed this location; my first one was at Best Buy Theater which is much bigger but for a metal concert the majority of the people usually stand. Otherwise this was an excellent show, and I would definitely return to this location as many times as I can.

I had been wanting to see Meshuggah for the longest time and they rarely tour in the states. This was a must go to concert for me and it was totally worth it. Meshuggah played their songs flawlessly and didn't miss a beat! That is a challenge since their songs are pretty technical. The first band up was Polish death metallers Decapitated, which was my third time seeing them. They always kick ass. The second band was Baroness (which in my opinion didn't really fit the bill and should've been the openers). They were grungy hard rock with melodic singing and had a good performance, but felt more like an intermission band compared to the other two. The third and final band was none other than Sweden's MESHUGGAH! They were by far the best live band I've EVER seen!!! Period. Tallied results, weighed out previous concerts; these guys have an insane sense of groove to their music that comes second to none. They're actually credited for inventing a genre. Just a tremendous pulse to their tunes that gets you headbanging and moshing uncontrollably. Meshuggah have left a PROFOUND impact on me, and will be very difficult for another band to top.

If you ever have a chance to see meshuggah do your self a favor and do what you need to do. Definitely one of the best concerts I've ever been too, the best detail that wasn't the band itself was the lighting, perfectly syncopated to the music in inventive, amazing ways, really indescribable. It goes without saying the band was perfect and played music from their first album all the way to their most recent and everywhere in between, playing all the hits and enough more obscure songs to appease every one. Well worth every penny, I hope to see you at their next NYC show

I have nothing to say about meshuggah or the venue, it was incredibly amazing. The only thing that bothered me was the fact that I came with my friend all the way from Guatemala City to attend this event and the guys who were checking Id's wouldn't take our drivers licence to check our dates of birth, because we were "not from here". Just for that i gave the show 4 stars.

it was excellent to see such an influential and amazing band on what i believe is one of their few headlining American tours. this was only the fourth time i've seen Meshuggah, but certainly, this was one of the best. Great stage presence, tight musicianship, and a simple but effective stage light show. I'll be back next time they're in town. The Fillmore is becoming one of my favorite venues. Professional staff, and the right balance of seats and floor to accomodate the various types of metal heads. Bartenders are inconsistent in terms of drink strength, but otherwise, good stuff. By the way, the guy that was crowd surfing in a wheelchair is my new hero. Also, really enjoyed Baroness's set. One of the few bands i know that's significantly better live than on record! Decapitated wasn't bad, but between their sound guy and the habit of playing songs nearly 1/3 faster tempo, it was a little less enjoyable than expected due to the combination of ear piercing sound quality and the lack of distinction of the guitar parts.

i'm a huge fan of djent music, and meshuggah is the founder of that subgenre of metal. i really love listening to meshuggah albums every now and then because their guitar tone is so perfect and they play catchy riffs, but their songs can get repetitive. thus, i was expecting to hear the same thing live. decapitated opened up and showed us their beautiful brand of thrashy death metal, chalk full of blast beats and breakdowns. their stage presence was energetic. i forgot the name of the 2nd band. they were cool, but they just weren't a good fit for meshuggah because they were pretty mellow in comparison unless the contrast was intentional so that meshuggah sounded heavier. meshuggah took a while to get on stage (typical for the headlining band), so the crowd was super eager. when they got on, they just stood there with the humongous 8 string guitars. a lot of casual meshuggah listeners think that their frontman is huge, but he's a really small guy in comparison to the rest of them. but, big things come in small packages; he flawlessly belted out the lyrics, and he made sure to make his signature face every 10 seconds. that made me happy. the guitars sounded even better in real life because they were so loud and full of rich, low-end tone because they use amp simulation (it works better than amps when it comes to low-tuned guitars). the bassist was great too. he kept the room shaking. of course, the drums were the best part. he's such an amazing drummer. overall, they had such a thick sound, and they really got the crowd going. i'm glad they came back to the states. next time they come, you can't miss them if you like heavy metal.

That was probably one of the best shows I've been to! First of all, Intronaut started nice and early with the new single "Milk Leg" and another new unknown song following that. A few more awesome songs were jammed(The Literal Black Cloud, Australopithecus, Core Relations) and their set was sadly over. Animals As Leaders was of course mindbogglingly insane! With songs like Tempting Time, Wave Of Babies, CAFO, Odessa, Isolated Incidents, Cylindrical Sea, Weightless, & Earth Departure you know it was a very enjoyable, lengthy set. But of course of the main band was MESHUGGAH! Was glad that Jens Kidman was back after being sick for the start of their tour with the aforementioned bands. They finished the night with an amazing long set consisting of these songs: Swarm, Combustion, I Am Colossus, Straws Pulled At Random, Bleed, New Millennium Cyanide Christ, Rational Gaze, Break Those Bones Whose Sinews Gave It Motion & Do Not Look Down.

My familiarity with Meshuggah goes back to a late-90's Modern Drummer article with their drummer who made their music sound absolutely insane, but it did not sound like my cup of tea back then. Little did I know that given the stuff I was into at the time, it probably would have blown my mind. A few years later in college I stumbled across some of their polyrhythmic metal and enjoyed some of it, finding it almost hypnotizing. Fast-forward to the present day and it seems an entire subgenre has sprung up around their detuned, yet highly intricate stylings. I like going to see the source material so when I heard Meshuggah was coming around I was tempted but had another show to attend the same night. When those plans changed I pretty much went to this show on a whim, especially since the opener was another band I was long familiar with but never saw in person. ]The result was one of the best decisions I've made in recent memory. Between the Buried and Me were musically captivating - I found myself laughing at many points and the sheer complexity of their progressive metal, at least in terms of structure and trying to remember so many parts. The actual drum and guitar chops were impressive as well. I haven't had that much fun watching musicians just play in ages. When Meshuggah took the stage I foolishy questioned whether they'd be able to top what I just saw; by the end of their set my ass was thoroughly kicked. The band members themselves were mostly ominous and inconspicuous...silhouettes just standing there for the most part with the vocalist milling around slowly. The real show was in the lighting and massive strobe effects. Seriously, my eyes were pissed but I was loving every second. Even though I was barely familiar with any specific songs, I knew the general style and thus pretty much knew what to expect, but it was definitely way more awesome than I envisioned. Would definitely see again.

Opening acts were more interesting to watch than Meshuggah. Animals as Leaders left me saying "WOW" aloud after almost every song. Meshuggah are killers as musicians, but they fail to work the crowd at all. It creates a blah evening overall. Haake's drumming is spectacular and the band is tight as can be, but there is really something lacking in their shows. This was my 3rd time seeing them. I don't think I'll go again.

This entire show was outstanding. The concert was scheduled for 6pm and started before 6:30, which was pretty impressive in terms of concerts. The House of Blues was an excellent genre and the acoustics were very good. Intronaut came out around 6:25 and played for a little over a half hour. I had never heard of them before, but their music was very interesting experimental/post metal. The bassist was outstanding as was everyone in the band. I was prompted to order their new CD based on their performance and sound. The mix was very good and let everything come through, even the bass, which I have found to be rare, especially at a metal concert. Once Intronaut was done, their equipment was torn down, and Animals As Leaders started setting up their stuff. It only took about half an hour, another quick set up. Their performance was incredible. Every musician performed amazingly well and the mix was perfect. Everything sounded tight and clean, it wasn't too loud, and the imaging of the sound was excellent. Their stage lighting was a refreshing change, and let the audience see them the entire time. They played video on two projectors, which meshed very well with the music. There were several drum solos in the middle of songs, which were very technical and awesome. Overall, this was the highlight of my night. After AAL was finished, it took what seemed like forever for Meshuggah to start. Between sets cheesy 80s electronic music was being played, which was amusing. Meshuggah's entire set was great. The way they started their songs was impressive, with no counting off from the drummer or anything, they just started out of nothing. The light show was very cool and was synchronized perfectly. The mix was also very good, but the sound was perhaps a little louder, which led to a bit of distortion. This could have been due to the fact that a lot of their music utilizes a lot of low frequencies. Jens's stage presence was very cool and the audience was very into it. The band's talent was excellent and the set was a good length. Overall this show was very good without any disappointments.

About 30 sec after I arrived at the venue, Meshuggah took the stage. By the time their set ended about 80 min later, my neck was sore from headbanging. As one of the bands I've most wanted to see live, they did not disappoint. The venue was packed out and the crowd had amazing energy, especially for a (real) metal show in America in 2013. I was glad to see that everyone else was as enthusiastic about Meshuggah's singular brand of aural assault I was. I hope they have many years of new releases and touring still ahead of them.

While the AC kinda destroyed Animals as Leaders' tone, Meshuggah absolutely killed it in their performance. The lights were as if they crawled from the vilest corners of hell, and the technical vocal effects were downright dastardly. Hearing them play some of their old stuff, however, was what really made the show for me. I don't care that the singer was sick, I was too busy hurling my body into other peoples' and enjoying the sickest of sounds. Overall? One of the single best shows I have been too.

This concert was simply mind blowing. If you ever get a chance to see Meshuggah live, do it. It's unforgettable. The lights, the rhythmic mayhem with the underlying low tempo pounding. It feels like some sort of ritual.
