Have not seen my childhood friend in over 40 years what a way to bond again. The show was so real because I felt the presence of God. They interact with the audience and it was so electrifying I am still in awe what a show

Some of the food was great and some wasn't. The music wasn't hard core gospel. I found all of the songs familiar. A diverse crowd. I and some other birthday fellows throughly enjoyed joining the group on stage for a special birthday song. It's worth it. I would love to return to BB Kings to see another band

The joint was crowded, but not uncomfortable. The buffet line food was no better or worse than you would expect,; the chicken wings were soft and bland , but the peach cobbler was really good. The Choir is a mixed bag: when they sang together, they could be soaring and inspiring, but a couple of the individual performers not so much. Nice how they involve the audience, but I wish they had cut out some of the mindless chatter and just sang. An interesting couple of hours, but I wouldn't go back.

I love gospel music for it's emotional churn -- this was particularly so with the Harlem Gospel Choir. Their performance was sincere and moving. During one song, the singers fanned out through the audience, choosing a person to sing to. One of the singers sang to me and we were both in tears from the intense exchange of emotion. My only disappointment was that it did not last long enough. The concert was about an hour in length.

The HGC was electifying and a hoot to watch and listen to. My only complaint is that out of a 120 minute concert, we only got to hear about 45 minutes of them singing. The rest was taken up with dignitary speaches (it was the opening of the historic Lincoln Theater) and strange, self-promoting ramblings from the founder of the choir that had nothing whatsoever to do with the concert. I was, in the end, very disappointed and felt it was not worth the money we spent, though I would hear the choir again. That is, if we actually get to HEAR THE CHOIR.

I bought four tickets to see the Harlem Gospel Choir and was very disappointed with the performance. My father is a fan of gospel music so I purchased the tickets as a birthday gift, thinking it would be a nice thing to do with the family. However, the first song they sang was R. Kelly's "I Believe I Can Fly," which as far as I am concerned, is not gospel. It's been almost two months since the performance so I can't remember specifically what songs they sang, but there were a few other songs that would not be considered gospel as well. The Choir certainly had a lot of energy, but they spoke to the crowd too much and did not seem focused on the music. The concert was not well planned and lacked the fluidity of a good show. Less talking, more singing please. The meal was not impressive either. The food was mediocre and BB Kings does not know how to run a buffet. They broke up the audience and asked everyone to form a line extending between booths and around tables. The service was also pretty poor. It took 15 minutes to get a glass of water. I wouldn't recomend this to anyone. Even out of towners who don't know the difference deserve better.

The food was delicious!! However, the show left something to be desired. The venue was small and the choir was limited to about 4 or 5 people. The actual live gospel music only lasted for one hour (the first hour during the meal used a pre-recorded CD for background music). Overall, I enjoyed the show and the meal, but for the price, I would've liked to experience two hours of live music.

The choir was great and very entertaining but were only on the stage for an hour. The venue needs a revamp (sticky carpets etc)! Staff were unorganised and didn't seem to know what was happening. The start time on the ticket was 1.30pm however when we arrived about 1.20pm the buffet was already open and there was a massive queue. The show started at 1.30pm and the lights were turned off so everyone was unable to see what was on the buffet. Food was mediocre. I would recommend going to see a broadway show instead!

Went to see the HGC in NY with my family, 4 in total. Was really looking forward to this as major fan of gospel music. The opening half was really strong, great singers and performers. However, the 2nd half was very flat and felt as though the Choir was simply filling in the time. Overall, this was very expensive for what was ultimately delivered. I was initially happy to pay the price in expectation of a truly rousing and moving show, and one which I hoped would have a great impression on my family . Unfortunately, I was happy to see it end after an hour as it clearly went down hill after a few opening songs, a real shame - particularly for the brand that is the Harlem Gospel Choir.

Harlem Gospel Choir is full of amazing voices. They sang Prince and MJ songs so well and did them justice. They sang with soul and passion. They did more MJ songs than Prince. (That might be an issue for some.)The Prince songs they did was "I Would Die 4 U" ,"I Wanna Be Your Lover", "Adore",Nothing Compares 2 U , "Diamonds and Pearls", and ended the show with "Purple Rain". They stayed after the show to greet fans and to autograph their cd.My favorite moments is when they have a dance contest of five women who dance their little hearts out to "I wanna Be Your Lover" and went they sang "Purple Rain" at the end.

Great harmony from very good singers. Only remark is that we expected that more popular songs from both Prince and Michael would be in the list. Also the group took and excessively long break between the first and the second (and final) part of the show.

The ticket price of course ended up being $123 and at the end of the show we were presented a bill for tax and gratuity, another $20. The show ended up being $143 for two people. Why am I complaining...the food was in editable and the service poor at best. There were no assigned seats so get there early, be prepared to fend for your self in general at this show. You are on your own. Shabby, dated venue with no production quality to the show...the choir was amazing but just six performers. The band was great also...all professionals.

Concert of the Harlem Gospel Choir would deserve a 4-5 star review. The singers were great and entertaining. The problem came from the Mother's Day special brunch. It was awful and spoiled the experience. We were a party of 5 and only 3 of us got some food during the concert. My mother and I got nothing despite we asked our waiter a couple of times. After two hours, we finally got some food that was not what we had ordered, but the waiter told us that was the only thing that was available. Another group got the same issue. Would definitely not go again to that kind of event. I would prefer a concert only option and would do the brunch at a real restaurant before or after the concert.

I took my mother to the Harlem Gospel Choir brunch for Mother's Day and the experience is terrible! We arrived at 1:20 to brunch and apparently they let opened the doors earlier than 1:30 because by the time we got in the Howard Theater there were no more seats at the first floor, so we sat it the balcony. They have a brunch menu which has eggs, hash brown potatoes and a biscuit and choice of meat. I wanted the fried chicken, but was told that they ran out of CHICKEN, so I had the crab cake which was horrible! When the server brought our food to us, it didn't have the eggs on the plate. When I asked about the eggs, he said that they run out of EGGS.....AT A BRUNCH! I only saw the waitress 2 times, once to take my drink and food order and than again when I refused to pay for the bill and wanted my meal taken off the check. The 8 person choir was good, but they only performed for an hour. After the choir performed the lead singer asked the audience to take care of the wait staff....meaning tip them....but the gratuity is included with the purchase of the meal, which explained why we only saw our waitress twice! Avoid this bootleg brunch at all costs....you will waste your money and time!

BB Kings is a great venue, but if you'd like a table be sure to reserve or at least show up pretty soon after doors open. The meal was an 'all you can eat buffet' offering a variety of delicious dishes, with something to please everyone. Now, let's talk about the show!!!! WOW, every song was a winner! This was a warm, lively and uplifting start to a Sunday, whatever your religious persuasion. The Harlem Gospel Singers put everything into their performance and spread a warm glow throughout the audience. Extremely good value for money, plenty of food and although it was not all to my taste I had plenty to eat. There has to be a comparison to the over-priced, over-hyped shows on Broadway, not a few minutes away. This is simply a third the price and twice the fun.

The Harlem Choir did a fine job entertaining but left me very empty in terms of the Gospel music. The Harlem Gospel Choir's choice of songs were dated (I Believe I Can Fly) and conjured up bad thoughts about the song writer R. Kelly. The Michael Jackson tribute was fine -- I actually enjoyed it. One suggestion is to lose the Billie Jean song -- it has no inspiration and really a poor song selection for a Gospel Choir. Jackson's "We are the World" was great, "Man in the Mirror" was appropriate. Finally, the "Celebration" song by Kool and The Gang is dated...and not gospel -- and the Gospel songs performed were written in the 70s and 80s. Maybe I expected something different -- but I felt the Gospel Choir failed to deliver Gospel. I thought in segments it was like they were playing church vs really being an example of the church.

Brought these tickets for Mother's Day, and was expecting actual brunch/lunch type of food. Sadly the food was terrible, there were only sides for example, sweet potatoes, hash browns, bacon, sausage and mini muffins. There was no food of substance there was a sign listed for fried cod fish but inside the container was mushrooms in some sort of gravy. I've done this brunch before and in the past they've had chicken wings, french toast, and other entree type elements. The show was only an hour long but the music was good. The space seemed like a dirty night club that hadn't been cleaned since the night before.

The choir was amazing and makes the brunch pretty worth it. The food is terrible and the service isn't great. You are given a check at the end with gratuity and tax that's given to a server that doesn't really help you. So please don't be confused by the ticket you buy that list that everything is included. If it wasn't for the awesome, amazing, talented choir it would have been a super expensive brunch that isn't worth the price. I work as a server and bartender and it's a lot for me to say the server isn't worth the tip I had to give him. He didn't even get our drinks!

The Choir put on an uplifting fun show with a lot of audience participation. Two of the guys had really good voices. Their backup band (ok keyboardist and a drummer) really needs a bass player. As for the brunch food, it is good, plentiful, and has a lot of variety but is not gourmet food. Enjoyable way to spend a Sunday morning whether or not you are religious. The buffet was set up so that there were 4 different lines which mean you didn't wait long at all to get your food.

The Harlem Gospel brunch is a relatively short event. 55 minutes of singing and good music. Personally I think that having so many from the audience on the scene is over doing it.. It takes focus from the choir. The brunch itself is a joke, a "buffet" of over cooked varm food that's no longer varm and cold food that's been out to long. Would I go again? Well.. Yes for the music, but I would make sure I had eaten before!

My friend and I had a great time at this show. Very fine singers and great energy throughout. Really nice touch having choir members going around the tables afterwards thanking you for your attendance.

We went to the 2pm show. The performance was amazing but the food was awful and cold and a very small buffet choice of food. Also, with most brunches Mimosas are apart of the price but we had to pay an additional $34 plus taxes plus a suggested gratuity of $15 on top of what we paid for the tickets which made this a very expensive event that last a little over an hour and we left starving. I would definitely recommend anyone to see the Harlem Gospel Choir in concert but never at this establishment during the 2pm brunch.

I took my mother there this past weekend to New York to celebrate her 75th Birthday. I figured as a music teacher and a church musician for over 60 years, she would enjoy it. She was overjoyed. The performers were so friendly, caring and talented, she talked about the show all the way home to Maryland.

I think BB King would be disappointed in knowing this has his name on it. I looked at every Easter Sunday Brunch w/music to attend and I chose this one and IT WAS A MISTAKE! This was an Easter Sunday brunch with southern fair and for the cost of the tickets(that didn't include the tax and tip: $30. extra)it was TERRIBLE! The food just fell way short of what can be had throughout Manhattan at a deli which offers many options from which to choose and a lot cheaper too!. It appeared that they didn't even consider preparing something special because it was Easter. As for the Choir and their music: they were great when they JUST sang the music. I came here to hear GOSPEL music (which I do not see or hear live)and felt like I went to see the Harlem Globetrotters instead. The Choir was too interested in crowd participation. They did three songs which directly involved the audience . . . I DID NOT PAY TO HAVE MEMBERS OF THE AUDIENCE sing or come on stage. Also twice during the show, they had to do the SELL: one for a charity and the other for their CD's Two more interruptions to the music which needed to be done at the end . . .so I didn't contribute and didn't buy their CD.

My family and I were excited to visit DC and enjoy a soul food buffet brunch while enjoying watching the Harlem Gospel Choir as indicated on their website. I paid $200 only to find out that the tickets were only for the "VIP" seats that were basically the same as the regular ticket seats that were $20 (only difference is they were in a booth to the side). When we arrived we were put in one booth and then moved to another because the host seated us wrong. When we were told that they no longer offered the buffet and we had to order and pay from the selected menu I was furious! My mother had passed two years ago and we started a tradition of going away on Easter instead of staying home and having our usual EASTER dinner and I wanted everything to be perfect (not to mention I have big boys that live to eat)! I thought this would be perfect! To be fair, the manager Donna came over to apologize for the misunderstanding and comped our meal. She was very nice and apologized. If there are two things that I can say about this experience is her graciously helping to "fix" the issues. She was wonderful. The gospel choir was great as expected. However, the service was not good and if you wanted a refill on a drink we were told that it would take s really long time so we opted for water. Many people sent their meals back because they were wrong and some people didn't get their meal until the end of the show. So, buyer be aware! If you are going to just see the show you're in for a treat, otherwise, think twice! PS- They need to update their website removing the soul food buffet that is included!

Seven voices, one better than the next, rotated solos as they went through gospel standards and some pop songs at the end, backed by a keyboard and drum set. Great audience participation, people from all over the world were up on stage singing along and stuff. Great time for all. The brunch was OK, nothing special, but lots of variety.

I was disappointed and did not think the overall performance was value for money. The music and singing, when performed by the choir, was good. There was just not enough of it. It was all over in one hour and there were too many guests on the stage. Which basically spoiled the professionalism of it all. More music from the choir alone please. And if you have to involve the audience, then make the whole performance longer. The food was OK - I am a vegetarian but did not go hungry. Was amazed at how greedy people were and how much food was left and not eaten. Is this typical in the US?

Disorganized when being seated. Even tho we had Amex Preferred seating, there were large groups seated first and we were far away when we were finally seated. Told we would be called for the buffet - no one called us and by the time we got on line to get the buffet the music had already started. They sang only half the time. Tried to do comedy routines and cater to the tourist crowd. Only two gospel songs. Called people on stage who had their birthdays in March and went to each one, asking their name and age. What a waste of time. Then played Kool and tthe Gangs 'Celebration' and Pharell's 'Happy'. This is not gospel music that we came to hear.

The show was awesome but I was disappointed that when I purchased these tickets nothing was stated that the brunch WAS NOT included in the ticket price! When we sat at our table we then find out there is a $20 minimum on brunch. Very misleading! Was a bit confusing at first when we arrived. It was first come first sit/served so the people in the line outside the door tried to cut in the line at check-in. The servers were friendly and pleasant but the service was VERY slow (some people around me didn't receive their brunch meal at all) . My meal was chicken and waffles, the waffles were ice cold and the chicken was tasty but I could tell it was fried in old grease. All and all it was a nice birthday gift for my loved one and we had an enjoyable day!

I wasn't sure how a Gospel Choir could do Adele justice but they blew my mind. The first song or two was very much them getting going and just singing, but then they upped their game and really bought the gospel feel to the songs.

Awful! One of the worst shows I've ever been to and definitely not worth the money I spent. They came out 25 min late and did 5 songs ... 3 of them performed terribly. They clearly weren't comfortable with this material. Then they went off for a 15 min intermission which lasted more then 30 min. Came back on and did a terrible version of Hello which had no choir in it till the last min. Clearly underehearsed and not at all comfortable. Left with my boys after that cause they'd had enough. Big shame... Was looking forward to hearing the world famous Harlem gospel choir and left with a very unsatisfying experience.

The "choir" was 4-6 singers (depending which ones bothered to come on stage - on the way to the restroom I found the lead singer sitting at the bar eating fries). Relied on forcing audience "participation" to avoid having to perform themselves (particularly abhorrent when they bullied a table who refused to stand up... too ignorant to realise they table were refusing to stand in solidarity with a stroke victim who could not stand). Spent most of the MC time complaining that the crowd wasn't enthusiastic enough... which was difficult given the amount of negativity. Poor / lazy singing technique (e.g. microphone distance not maintained, so voices came in and out, making the balance completely off)

great location, good food, nice show which lasted for about an hour unfortunately the choir didn't sing and perform as many songs as we expected but asked some people of the audience to go onto the stage - a boy, a girl, people who felt happy, people who celebrate their birthday in January a bit too much show and too little Harlem Gospel Singers

not real gospel, mediocre singers, too many gimmicks (audience participation). Better to hear gospel in one of the more authentic churches in Harlem.

Very disappointing show from the Harlem Gospel Choir. At some point I thought We were watching bad daytime TV. They sang maybe 4 songs. Then moved onto singing Happy, as if this was a Gospel song... Amazing Grace was missing. They spend half their time speaking, getting people on stage like young kids. It felt like a circus and totally missed the spiritual and joyful theme we were looking for. The show also barely lasted an hour. My opinion: don't ever go!!

the "choir" was an energetic and musically talented but small group of 8 - the show a bit dated and "Vegas-like" in costume and dialogue, but overall fun. That said, the buffet was marginal at best - lots of mediocre dishes, including stale (probably reheated) biscuits and really sketchy jambalaya. No dressing for the salad and no homemade desserts. Service was minimal. They could have at least added table cloths! I probably would not recommend.

My boyfriend and I wanted to see a Gospel in Harlem but we saw that the BB King Blues Club was offering the Sunday brunch with the Harlem Gospel Choir, so we thought "what a great opportunity!". The place and the brunch were really good and also the concert was nice but we were expecting some more songs and less speakings. They spoke a lot with the public, brought people on the stage, made some jokes and that was fun but we were expecting something more "serious". So I would recommend it if someone is looking for something fun but not really much emotional.
