My husband is from Guinea-Bissau and was thrilled to see Baaba Maal in person. Baaba Maal even said he would visit Guinea-Bissau in the future! Baaba Maal shared stories from his life and what inspires his music. It was a great evening!

I waited more than 40 years to see Milton in concert, so maybe my expectations were unrealistically high. On the plus side, he still has a voice of the gods. And his music is and will always be as good as structured popular jazz gets. The songs are timeless. But Milton is 72, and health concerns have surrounded him for some time now. He looked pale onstage, and clearly lacked energy. He even acknowledged not feeling well after experiencing winter cold during shows a few days prior in New York and Boston. He didn't smile. He didn't really connect with the audience as I'd expect a seasoned performer of his caliber to do. So yes, I was somewhat disappointed, but really more concerned for his health and well-being than anything else. His band -- particularly guitarist Wilson Lopes -- was fabulous. The hallmark voice was clear, sonorous and beautiful. The selection of songs was good, though many icons were missing. So I expected a 10, got a 7, and am still happy I went. Next time, sure hope he's feeling better! Milton strained to speak a little English. He didn't need to. I think most in the audience -- including myself -- are Brazilian and speak Portuguese daily.

If you know this band and they come to your town and you don't go see them, then shame on you. One of the best shows that I have been to in the last 20 years. They were spectacular. Don't miss them.

This was a bucket list trip from Scotland to BB Kings Speakeasy NYC to see Oleta Adams perform, a very big deal as I had waited since early 80's to have the privilege. I never uttered a sound throughout. A voice that has the power to induce an emotional reaction like no other, a voice with such depth and colour every song is truly unique !!. NEVER have I heard a voice like Oleta Adams , She sang and played piano effortlessly and her band - including her husband on drums John Cushon - played an unbelievably accomplished set ( in awe Mr Cushon ) . She played a varied set list from all her albums. A beautiful soul , she gave us all a little piece of wisdom on the true meaning of love. With a sharp intake of breath from the crowd when she revealed she is now 65 yrs old...Ms Adams showed a quick sense of humour, and remarked ...."black don't crack" The only blot on the gig was the big voice from the little new yorker when she heard the opening bars of 'Get Here' ....shouted " that's my karaoke song" !!!. At the very least bad mannered and not concert etiquette! The name Oleta Adams and karaoke should never be in the same sentence !!! Next stop Holland !

Marvelous songs, incredible playing, beautiful lighting -- great way to bring in the new year! I heard they were doing 24-track audio and running at least 4 video cameras, so I'd say it's likely the show will be released as a DVD before long. Only downside was bringing up the singer from the obscure band Squirrel Bait to do one of their songs that wasn't very entertaining or interesting.

How cwould two unique musicians be better? When they meld so well together! Their new material is excellent and their interpretation of previous works were glorious. Jon lost his voice on a couple of songs, but he did not lose his enthusiasm! Looking forward to getting their new CD!!

What an inspiration! She talked about her new book and performed pieces of music and spoken word with video accompaniment - taking us through the decades of her collaborations with William Burroughs, her installation art with a prisoner in Guantanamo, her cloned male counterpart, her virtual reality project, a Tai Chi demonstsration, and so much more! Laurie is poised and hilarious and unexpected all at once. I recommend any artist of any medium to watch this inspirational show. She lives and breathes her art and eloquently describes her experience.

I became a big fan in the mid/late '70's & saw Joan for the first time in mid '80's, at The Tower in Philly. Seeing her perform at The Scottish Rite Auditorium the other night was beyond all of my expectations! Our seats were FAB! The acoustics of this intimate venue honored Joan's perfect voice, her guitars & keyboards. She covered a smorgasbord of songs spanning her 40+ years of composing melodies & lyrics, with apparent ease & comfort. Her sense of humor was in full bloom and her well-earned pride for all of her accomishments was displayed via a narrated slide show. I truly feel that I received a very special gift, having treated myself & my sister, to that Very Special Evening With the-one-and-ONLY... Joan Armatrading! Thank you, Joan!!! Please come back again, sooooooon! Thanks also for signing my poster! God Bless You!
