Angelique Kidjo

Angelique was full of stories and accompanied by very skillful guitarist and percussionist. Her voice was as rich and beautiful as expected. I didn't know a lot about her history so it was a fantastic introduction to an extraordinary person, on top of the joy of both listening to her sing and sharing concert with my parents who had never heard or heard of her. No bad seat in the house. We were fourth route, farthest end.

Kurt Vile & the Violators

I enjoyed the show overall. If I had not already known Kurt's music from before, I would've been a little disappointed (like my better half) because the guitars were just too overwhelming AND I love the guitar sounds he generates. The problem was you couldn't hear his voice and I don't know if that was his or the technician's 'fault'? Still, Kurt's a musical savant and I enjoyed his songs from across the various albums. I would see him again.

Ben put on a good show but did not play enough of his most popular tunes. He committed what I think is a entertainer's faux pas: he played unfamiliar songs off a new album to promote the new album, but leaving fans without the great songs they paid and came to see him perform.

We've been Choi's fan for years and he delivered a great performance at the Howard Theatre in DC. His band was great and he played his old and new hits from this recent cd.

This show was, well, amazing. It was my 9th time seeing them, but it was the first time I have seen them as a headliner. I had VIP, so we got upstairs early. Their fan coordinator made sure we all knew how VIP was going to work. Now to the actual show. The Missing Kids was one of the opening bands and they were quite good, and the lead singer was so kind and funny. :) Then Hollywood Ending came on and they were so good, I really liked them. I wish they were performing at the other show I was going to, but it's alright. Then Days Difference came on. Jeremy had no voice, which was a bit upsetting, but it all went well. As a surprise to our show, Anthony and Brian from Action Item and sang part of one of the songs with them. Burnham was on, which was insane for me, as I had been a fan of them for about a year and this was the first time I would see them live. The only thing I didn't like was that Forrest, the lead singer, usually favorited the left side of the crowd (the stage right side) which might have made fans on my side feel a bit more left out. Then Action Item came on. The show that they played was absolutely amazing. They played a mix of old and new, and added some new flair to a few songs. I think the setlist may have been cut a bit for this show, because they played their encore song as their last song. The M&G was surprisingly well run, after some past experiences I've had at the House Of Blues. Although, it was on the second floor balcony, so it was slightly squished.

Matt Goss

I treated myself to a trip to Vegas for my 40th birthday. Top of the list was seeing Matt Goss and, boy, I was not disappointed. The Gossy room was intimate and welcoming and we had a great view even though we were right at the back. The door staff were very polite and showed us to our seats. We got chatting to other people in there and made some new friends too - the atmosphere was very friendly. The show itself is very engaging and whilst the ladies are swooning over Matt, he has cleverly provided something for the guys to look at too - the lovely Dirty Virgins - Matt's backing dancers. Matt chats to the audience, which makes it a very interactive experience and he puts the guys at ease too who may initially have felt a little awkward at accompanying their missuses to a Matt Goss show! He sings a mixture of his jazzed up old songs in a swing style, some of his new material and a brilliant rendition of Hotel California, in which he gets fully involved in jamming with his fantastic band. I popped to the ladies at one point and so powerful is his voice that is can still be heard outside the Gossy Room, and not a single note was missed. Overall, the tickets are reasonably priced, which affords great value for money, the mood was fun and uplifting, the man knows his art and if you give Matt a go you certainly won't go away disappointed.

My friends and I have all seen a lot of shows and on our way out of the show I asked each of them to name 3 shows better than this one. None of us could. I was absolutely stunned. One of the best shows I have ever seen. He comes alive in person. I just can't say enough. I'm sorry I didn't catch a show earlier on his tour, as I would have planned my travel schedule around towns he's playing in. DO NOT MISS AN OPPORTUNITY TO SEE THIS GUY!

Wynton Marsalis is the leader of a Band of excellent individuals that blend into a great Jazz orchestra. It is the house of Swing on the road. :-)
