I was a fan of the Soup, but had no idea what to expect from Joel doing a full stand up show. He exceeded any expectation I may have had from seeing other comedians in person (including Jerry Seinfeld, Kevin Hart, Bob Sagget). He was real, he was true to himself and seriously had tears rolling down my face when he did a bit about E and the Kardashians. I hope he tours again, because I will absolutely continue to support his act. This show was outstanding. Great time and no shortage of laughs. I can't forget to mention, he also drove to Cleveland from Philly (during a blizzard) due to cancelled flights, so he could make this show. Who else would do that?! Love ya Joel!

JD McPherson

The incredible band that McPherson has with him is the perfect backing to his amazing guitar work. The band hardly stopped to breathe as they tore through song after song, never letting the energy in the club subside. The sound was awesome and the crowd definitely fed off the energy. I could have watched JD wail on his custom TK Smith guitar all night. Also, started the night with dinner in the Teragram Cafe. Great food and a very cool and friendly staff working the bar there.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show Live!

This was the second time I went to the annual midnight screening of "Rocky Horror Picture Show" at the Empire Theater in Grand Forks. I love the movie; it's just the right mixture of humor, music and pure, unadulterated naughtiness, anchored by a spectacular performance by the great Tim Curry as Dr. Frankenfurter. As with last year's screening, there were a bevy of "virgins" (meaning kids who hadn't seen the film before and had no idea what to expect) that were commanded by the emcee to strip down to their skivvies onstage before the screening started; it was fun watching the squeamish types quickly vacate the stage when they realized that the guy wasn't kidding. It was all in good fun, and when the film started, so did the interaction, with various people acting out the dialogue and lyrics underneath the film itself. The problem I had was with the level of the volume. Last year, the level was up high enough that I had no trouble making out the dialogue and lyrics, but this year it was set so low that it was nearly impossible to follow, even after I moved twice to get closer to the screen. While it was fun to watch everyone in the audience go nuts during "The Time Warp" (I have to admit that I'm not a 'participation' kinda guy), it was a little annoying that the volume was set as low as it was. The Empire, besides operating as a movie theater, is primarily a concert hall, and I just cannot imagine why the volume was so low. I asked someone in the lobby about it, and they just shrugged. Very odd! Anyway...I enjoyed the film as best I could, but I hope that the management has everything fixed by next year, or I may have to just wait until I'm in L.A. in January to see--and hear--the film as it was really meant to be experienced.

Great musicians, decent set list, fun walk down memory lane, but the sound mix was horrendous, sound reinforcement was underpowered (small stage located stacks) and not enough power. Light sign was very good at times and really, really bad at others. Come back to Baltimore with better, more powerful sound system, new sound engineer and lighting designer.

Simple set, but make great use of what there is, fits the adage less is more. Beautiful use of shadows and color on the backdrop. I wish the main lighting was a bit brighter so the members could be seen better. Sound was excellent, music and vocals are amazing - better live than just the albums. Would definitely go see them again.

We are total 80s folk, so we love The Cars. We had never seen them play so this was a first. The guys were clearly having fun and enjoying their tour and love from the fans. We came from NYC to see them because the night they played NYC we couldn't go. The venue is ok but the box office staff are snarky, 20-somethings that have NO customer service skills. Plus, it's RIDICULOUS to not have way to check your bag. We had to put our bags on the floor by our feet the entire concert and then take turns going to the restroom. However, the pros greatly outweighed the cons because all the attendees were friendly and there to just have some good ol' fun rocking out. No attitude, which was nice. The band played one encore. I jumped up and down so much and screamed so much that my muscles ached in my legs and my face, but that's rock & roll, right?
